BUYER BEWARE! I purchased a refurbished Phantom 4 from DJI and had a couple hours of really fun flight time, capturing video and some still photos. However, when it suddenly, without warning or any indication of a problem, quit functioning while over a lake and plunged into the lake, DJI says it will not honor their warranty unless I returned the unit to them. It is, much to my shock, horror and disappointment at the bottom of a very cold lake, where I cannot reach it! So don't trust DJI to live up to their warranty promises - if you get one of these, be aware that if you fly it any place where you cannot physically go to retrieve it in the case of mechanical failure, you are simply stuck with the loss!!!
The battery was full charged and the machine had just taken off. As it turns out, the machine stored flight records on my iPad which they instructed me to upload to them. In addition to text files with computer language details each time the machine was turned on, there are videos that show, via GPS exactly where the drone was, its altitude, flight time and distance, any warnings or problems noted during the flight, and in the case of my fatal flight, that the machine completely ceased functioning while 13.5 feet above open water and about 20-26 feet from shore. Do you actually not believe that a machine can experience an electrical or other failure, and when that machine is specifically made to operate in otherwise unattainable environments, just as are shown in the promotional materials, that the company has no obligation to cover their warranty? Perhaps you are far more wealthy than I - when I spend this sort of money on a machine that is made to go such places, and the manufacturer has built in systems to allow then to see exactly what was happening at the time of failure, their promised warranty must be honored.
Glad to find out that the Phantom 4 has an internal cooling fan. My Phantom 2 Vision Plus 'burned' out its internal video card. Replacement/repair was going to be about 80% of the cost of replacing the unit (because it was two years old)...and repair time was estimated at 3-4 months (US to Hong Kong and back). Several of my friends have gone back to using their Phantom 3 Pros. They said that the '4' sometimes was 'squirrely'...it would take off and not return.

If you want a Phantom then just buy the phantom 3 advanced. Great price and 2.7k camera, light bridge and better controller then the standard.. And it's half the price of the phantom 4. If you need the 4k then go for the Professional. If you want to do tracking and tap to fly like the Phantom 4 then just use litchi app in the app store which will let you do these features and then some. I can see no real advantage in paying that much for a couple more features like the 4 minute longer battery and optical avoidance cameras which only work for the front of the drone and does not work for things like power lines.
+Scott Moore What about the follow the transmitter feature, and the sonar? I thought it sensed front and back indoors? the gimbal is supposed to be better, I think it's faster? I have the Phantom 3 Pro, its great, if that Litchi app works as promised I will be stoked, thanks for the tip.

Small note on POI, the reference point for the circle is directly below you at the time you engage poi, it is not the object you were looking at, i.e. The pier. That's why it doesn't circle the pier when you engage it.

+Johannes Werner Yeah as much as I love Casey's filming skills, i'm predicting that he may soon get a bit of a kick up the butt from the FAA (warning or fine) if he keeps flying in New York, especially as his aerial videos have such a large outreach and are easy to prosecute. He's been disregarding almost every UAS/RPAS rule in the book.
Patwwa Productions He's also flying over people, cars, roads and private property, in helicopter airspace, out of line-of-sight as well as close to/above buildings in city centres, all of which are illegal without special permission according to the FAA: knowbeforeyoufly.org/for-recreational-users/ As a result he gets some awesome shots that few other are game to get without requesting airspace, but if he's not careful he could become the new Trappy (look him up if you haven't heard of him), especially because I believe Casey's videos are monetised.
Thanks for this review. You just helped me decide which drone should I get next, and it won't be this one. You just fairly showed that the props still visible while flying fast, and also showed how the landing gear still showing up if you pan fast ruining your shot ...DJI failed by not including retractable landing gear on this unit. I am impressed by your review. I bought a Phantom 3 Pro from a sale two days ago but I didn't open it. Think I may return it and start saving some extra cash now and go for Phantom 4 later.
+MontiR Aruba -You can level the horizon in the gimbal using the app, but the longer you fly the more it drifts from level. The first time I turned on my phantom 4 The gimbal needed 3.5° of adjustment. I could just look at it sitting on the table after I turned it on and the gimbal finished calibrating, and just looking at the gimbal and camera you could see that it was not level. I can use the DJI GO app to level the gimbal, but as I fly it slowly drifts out of level again. It does it so slowly you can't really see it happening but about 15 or 20 minutes into a video you will suddenly realize that the horizon is no longer level on the screen. Sure enough when you land it you can see the camera is listing to one side or the other.

This is a great review video. It would appear that you have one of the P4's that actually works like it supposed to. After reading several dozen negative reviews on Amazon, I think I'm going to hold off on purchasing this device (dead batteries, firmware problems, not working at all, piss poor customer service from DJI). I like most of the features on this. You can't beat how much they've upgraded.My biggest pet peeves with the phantoms is that they're bulky and require your phone or an ipad if you want to fly them with their original intent. I was looking into the karma from gorpro because of that reason but shelling out like 1200-1600 dollars...i forgot how much it is all together kills me. Plus the karma only works with the gopro 5 and i was going to upgrade to gopro 4 instead of 5 because it just seems like a better upgrade. There's no real need for the gopro 5. Sigh decisions decisions.

Even though the horizon was a bit lopsided.... auto tracking that truck and then rotating it while tracking... SOLD!! I have also seen a review showing that the auto stability of the P4, as well as a few tweaks to the quality of low light performance, make it worth the extra coin.

You should get one. Really amazing piece of kit. Using the DJI Inspire 1 Pro, which is amazing for commercial work, however, the P4 is great to transport, shoot on the fly, and a heck of lot more robust Than most other Drones out there. Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 is a fine Android tablet, and in a couple of months the Galaxy Tab S3 is coming out.

Small note on POI, the reference point for the circle is directly below you at the time you engage poi, it is not the object you were looking at, i.e. The pier. That's why it doesn't circle the pier when you engage it.

Thanks for this review. You just helped me decide which drone should I get next, and it won't be this one. You just fairly showed that the props still visible while flying fast, and also showed how the landing gear still showing up if you pan fast ruining your shot ...DJI failed by not including retractable landing gear on this unit.

you forgot to mention how horrible the horizon gimball drift is as noted throughout your entire video.

+MontiR Aruba -You can level the horizon in the gimbal using the app, but the longer you fly the more it drifts from level. The first time I turned on my phantom 4 The gimbal needed 3.5° of adjustment. I could just look at it sitting on the table after I turned it on and the gimbal finished calibrating, and just looking at the gimbal and camera you could see that it was not level. I can use the DJI GO app to level the gimbal, but as I fly it slowly drifts out of level again. It does it so slowly you can't really see it happening but about 15 or 20 minutes into a video you will suddenly realize that the horizon is no longer level on the screen. Sure enough when you land it you can see the camera is listing to one side or the other.

This is a great review video. It would appear that you have one of the P4's that actually works like it supposed to. After reading several dozen negative reviews on Amazon, I think I'm going to hold off on purchasing this device (dead batteries, firmware problems, not working at all, piss poor customer service from DJI). I can do without these kind of headaches.

I just bought the phantom 2 and I'm hooked on this drone, it's easy once you get the hang of it. if you've never flown a drone B4 don't mess this one up by letting it be your first. and when you start flying this one practice landing and turning the propellers off

I like most of the features on this. You can't beat how much they've upgraded.My biggest pet peeves with the phantoms is that they're bulky and require your phone or an ipad if you want to fly them with their original intent. I was looking into the karma from gorpro because of that reason but shelling out like 1200-1600 dollars...i forgot how much it is all together kills me. Plus the karma only works with the gopro 5 and i was going to upgrade to gopro 4 instead of 5 because it just seems like a better upgrade. There's no real need for the gopro 5. Sigh decisions decisions.

Even though the horizon was a bit lopsided.... auto tracking that truck and then rotating it while tracking... SOLD!! I have also seen a review showing that the auto stability of the P4, as well as a few tweaks to the quality of low light performance, make it worth the extra coin.

You should get one. Really amazing piece of kit. Using the DJI Inspire 1 Pro, which is amazing for commercial work, however, the P4 is great to transport, shoot on the fly, and a heck of lot more robust Than most other Drones out there. It says it’s not water proof but my friends girlfriend crashed it in the ocean they found it with GPS took out battery and put it back in and it shot straight up out the water and still works
