Here it is 7 years later and I'm getting great value from your video. I was gifted a Phantom 3 Pro recently. It came from a Real Estate photographer who was retiring and wanted to pass on his quadcopter. I didn't know him. He was an amazingly generous man who said the drone paid for itself many times and he wanted to pass it on to someone who would appreciate it. Circumstanced kept me from flying it for months. Today I am going to fly it for only the second time. It is a bit windy (within the numbers from DJI). I was waiting for a calmer day, but your video has encouraged me to give it a go. I'm glad to see you are still posting 7 years after putting up this video. Thank You.
+theodoro89 the Phantom series are not quite as professional as any 6 or 8 rotor platform, but they're still not to be considered toys... this is your "toy" www.amazon.com/Syma-Venture-Angle-Camera-Quadcopter/dp/B00VQVO6W0/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1444584135&sr=8-1&keywords=syma+x8c
Of all the DJI Phantom 3 videos I've seen here on RUclips, yours, by far, is terrific! The clips, your verbal descriptions, your audio quality are all very high quality. You should be proud of yourself.
Thank you.. GREAT video demo.. comforting that you were able to learn with the Phantom 3 rather than wasting time and money on a cheap drone for practice. I'm apt to just jump in with this system... did you use post production software to stabilize the video, or is that right out of the camera as is? The Phantom 3 Pro is on sale right now... sooo... I guess it's time!
+GranVlog Thanks.. I've had mine now for several days.. it's extremely stable and I'm thoroughly enjoying the Phantom 3 pro... I very much appreciate your videos! Thanks also for replying...
+Frederick Dunn Not buying a $30 Hubsan x4 and spending 20 minutes with it is an extremely stupid thing to do. You should ALWAYS start with a Hubsan or Nano QX or at least a Syma X4 to practice and learn the controls. It's definitely not a waste of time or money
+Nico Myers Too late.. I have the P3P and it was my first drone... have over 32 flights with it and it's smooth as glass... love it. VERY glad I didn't start off with something cheap. But thanks for the advice anyway... too late for me.
As a Phantom 3 Advanced (P3A) owner I agree with your assessment of your P3P. I only want to add that in the 4 months that I have owned mine I have been impressed with the upgrades that DJI periodically makes to the firmware. There are features that I have on my P3A that were not on it when I bought it. One of the best (useful to me) is the "follow me" feature that when activated will as the name suggests, cause the aircraft to follow you and record you as you go about your activity. It actually follows the controller but you get what I mean. Not so impressive though is DJI's customer support. Hard to contact, unresponsive are terms used on the various forums and boards that I am acquainted with. Even DJI's own Facebook page has customers complaining. Just saying.
I bought this same copter about a year ago and never actually had the time to spend calibrating and learning to navigate...I know it sounds crazy but this very amateur friendly video inspired me to charge all 4 batteries and give it a go tomorrow. thanks so much for this fantastic review!
Great video! I also just got a P3 Pro (cheap deal from a friend who upgraded to an Inspire for work...!) and am loving it. I haven't flown it without GPS yet but I have a feeling it will be a LOT easier to crash without GPS assistance....!!
+Pat Wood I was just impressed that he new what it was. Thanks to media, every calls them drones now because people still respect those pandering fools.
That's a great clear video. I'm surprised people have put a dislike on it. I have ordered an Osmo and would love one of these next. The gimbal is so stable and using the Osmo and Phantom together would be superb.
+mrfloorguyz Yes, I figured it out thank you. Had to upgrade to a Galaxy S5 from an iPhone 4S though. It simply would not launch the DJI GO app - just a white screen and that was it.
Thank you for sharing this. I have a P3 Standard. I really enjoy flying it, when the weather is right. The other day I was in my Father-in-Laws back yard when off in the distance my P3 was hovering and drifted into some branches of a tree and she went down. Thank goodness not much damage was done. I still need to do a test flight to see if my P3 still can maneuver around. Once again, thanks for sharing your video
Dude! Great video! I've been thinking about DJI Phantom for some time (I'm currently learning on a cheaper drone). Your video absolutely clinched it for me. The Phantom Professional is what I've been looking for. I loved that you flew the drone in high winds, demoed a variety of camera angles, provided clear directions, and demoed the home feature. It really put my mind at ease. Thanks again. I can't wait to check out your other videos:)
Since I don't have that much money to buy a DJI Phantom, Im planning to buy a Syma X8c instead and I will change the camera on the drone cuz the 2MP camera it provides is absolute shit =)
I really need to stress this. it's really important to know that despite it being easy to fly, it can go wrong. something like a hubsan x4 would make a good and fun tool to hone your skills. I don't want to be that guy, I have a phantom and I love it, but a lot of people who buy a phantom without previous flight experience can make very severe mistakes. mistakes which can not only be a pretty big punch in you wallet, but ruin the hobby for everyone. I would be totally down to communicate with you more 1 on 1 if you have any questions about multi rotors and rc aircraft in general.
+Larocka totally agree and cannot be stressed enough. Invest $90 on a cheap quad and learn to fly that first. It helped me immensely. I can fly my cheap quad indoors room to room, down hallways and land anywhere. Very useful before graduating to my P3.
+Larocka most definitely, soo much better to lose a $100 or less toy than to lose an expensive piece of machinery. plus the small weight of a toy grade is much less dangerous if it losses battery and falls on someone or something. I think every major drone retailer should sell some sort of toy grade quad and recommend that as a trainer for the higher level stuff..... or even better, make some kind of package deal with both, so you have something fun to learn on first before even setting up your expensive one.
+johnni37 The other thing u can do is buy a simulator of ebay. it looks like a standard transmitter but plugs into your pc via USB. U can use any software then to start training. I did it with helis & fixed wing, works wonders 😊
+Roman Flachs thanks Roman. I know that dji also has a simulator as part of the dji go app. I am ashamed to say i haven't used it yet. Frankly my flying is severely limited to only when I'm up in the mountains. I live in an urban area and would never, ever use it here.
+Snazzy Labs was going to say. As you went up in altitude I was like that is so SLC lol I just got my P3P. Took it for my first flight the other day and made a video.
you should not be flying over the pubic , what if it lost control and landed on someone ? . the US are now going to make you register your drones as the are too many noobs flying and crashing there phantoms in unsuitable places. always fly safely :)
+jack00scarecrow you loose signa. the automatic Return to home will start and fly it back to where you took off and land. registration wont do shit. if people want to take risks they can just remove theyr name from it or buy a different brand or build it themself. :)
9 times out of ten its the return to home function that causes fly away,s its a very common problem with the phantoms. people dont wait for the gps to pick up 6 satellites and it returns to the last place you have flown it , if that was ten miles away thats where it will head too . you should not fly over the public at all , RTH wont help if an esc dies or the battery dies or a prop brakes off !! always fly safely :)
I've just ordered one of these about 20 minutes ago and it arrives tomorrow,I cannot wait to get my hand on it,I paid 400 of my good English pounds for it (standard model) and I can't believe how good it is for such a small price.i also got a signal booster as a freebie which is good.really enjoyed this film.
call it a drone, and contribute to the demonization. Call it what it is, and try not to ruin the hobby for us all. Don't be a douche...even though the mustache wil make that a difficult task.
Yeah! I mean, I'm building a quad right now. It's no drone, but if I gave it an extensive sensor suite, powerful processors, and programming to the point of nigh autonomy, it could be one. But until then it's just my "acrobatic ultra portable remotely controlled FPV enabled quadcopter," which if you ask me sounds cooler than "drone" anyways.
you can use course lock mode and you dont have to worry about orientation. It will always move in the direction you push the stick, regardles of where the nose is pointing.
Nice video. I noticed that some of the horizons weren't level. Might need to do an IMU calibration followed by a gimbal calibration. Something I like to stay on top of as without it, you can either ruin a day of shooting, or have to do lots of clip rotating in post.
you say its not autonomous, but return to home is pretty darn autonomous. if it lets you set a waypoint other than home, that would be the definition of autonomous, so its pretty darn close. also, phantoms and mavics seem to cause the most trouble for us drone pilots in the news. when you make a drone video with a phantom, you might rattle off a couple of the obvious rules, like stay away from airports, aircraft routes, and crowds of people, and dont linger over peoples homes very long. good job mentioning the 400ft rule. i appreciate that. also, you did it right, you should just pop up to 400ft to get your shot and then quickly come back down. dont hang out at 400ft for too long. news choppers fly that low sometimes and you often cant hear them. great job at everything and welcome to quadcopters. i fly racing drones, its a blast. EDIT: Oh dear, i just noticed this video was 4 yrs old. well my comment is still applicable.
I've seen a lot of Drone video's coming out of the SLC area! I live here and want to get into this hobby, where can I go (shops?) to pick one of these bad boys up?
Really great video man! I just ordered mine and should be here Tuesday! I waited on a deal myself and got a bundle with Carbon Fiber backpack, extra battery, lens kit, extra blades, corel pc office suite 5, cleaning kit and SD 64GB memory card. For the low price of $848 shipped to the door! Yes it's the 3 Pro also!
Thanks for the details onpoint, its been almost 3 months of research lol and this is by far a very satisfying documentation of dji ph 3 pro, i had my eye on the other ones but the specs stood out pretty good for this one thanks again.
+Snazzy Labs That thing is amazing. I looked at AR Drones a few years ago but these are way better. I watched some other vids from other people and am shocked at the stability of the video. Disappointed it won't work with my Ipad Mini though. No cell. Wonder if I link Ipad with phone if that would work.
+osparker2 Yeah, I have an AR Drone and the video quality is so far behind this and the stability isn't even close to the DJI Phantom but what else would you expect for a couple hundred dollars less and a few years old.
An excellent vid and demo just what I needed as I have been toying with the idea for a while now there is no excuse thank you very much for this snazzy labs.
Thanks for the video. Looking at your footage, I would have thought you were within 5 miles of the Salt Lake Airport and it wouldn't have flown. I just posted a video on my channel that was filmed entirely with the p3. Take a look if you get a moment. It was filmed in Sandy, Draper and the St. George area.
Nice demo. I flew my neighbors DJI Phantom 3 the other day and it is indeed easy to get started with. I had never flown any RC aircraft before and was a little concerned that I would wreck it, but it went pretty smoothly. I will be looking for a deal like you got.
Thank You For Your Post. Very Educational With My Decision On What Aircraft I Am Looking To Purchase In April. With So Many Out There, Makes It Hard To Choose, Ya Know? Again, Thank You.
Nice review video. I didn't read all of the comments below and not sure if it was mentioned, but wanted to point out that you didn't have the antennas on the controller pointed outward (like rabbit ears). I'm surprised you didn't have any reception/signal issues which could have had a bad outcome. Make sure to point those out before flying.
I believe this is actually a drone, at least from what I've read. The difference is a drone can be autonomous which the Phantom can be, while a quad is just a rc controlled device. Anyway, great video as usual man! Gotta get me one of these haha
+Matt Gonzalez quad means four, like in four blades phantom has four blades, quads are also can be autonomous it depends on your flight controller and phantoms are also rc controlled device. OK!! and phantom 3 is not really autonomous OK...
+Matt Gonzalez www.dji.com/product/ipad-ground-station It does not need much extra software & hardware to be a fully autonomous Drone. DJI tried to make manual flying easy by virtualising the controls of a automous drone. Phanton 2 onwards you dont realy have true manual control, the controls are interperated by software. That wind direction offset is an example of the software at work.
+Matt Gonzalez Quad refers to the number of propels, Quad-copter is anything with 4 propels. Whether it is autonomous or not. Military drones for example are also remote controlled. The name is interchanged here and there but generally they are all drones.
to the guy below same thing happened to me. when I had my professional for 4 days I did the firmware update I flew it it completely went sideways and smashed into the ground nothing left completely broken in pieces. 1300 down the drain! DJI wanted nothing to do with me. they actually sent me an email we were happy to help you and glad you are satisfied with your resolution. anyway I have a bunch of smaller quads from Horizon Hobby that run great. the next expensive one with a camera I'm going to build screw DJI
+John Pad I bought my DJI 3 Pro and received it before New Years 2016. I was having trouble downloading the Update Firmware, I wasted about 18 hours with all the confusing information from DJI. I prepaid to send it back for them to do the Update. It took about 3 weeks turn around time from East Coast U S A to the West Coast USA. My weather has been bad, so I still haven't tried to fly it. I'm still watching a lot of Video's and tips. Also bought a New I-Pad 2Mini but now have to download the DJI-Go Application, which I was having the same problem before, that I could not download this application. Next week Rain and 40 degree temperature. I was hoping DJI would do the Firmware Update on a Micro Card Reader or Flash Drive and send it to me, then I could help someone else that need to get the Update. They should be able to buy them cheap in Bulk and then load the firmware to the Flash Drive.
Wow, that was fantastic and very informative. You actually help the company with this video as you have convinced me to go ahead and get one. The controls seems easy to operate and images are awesome and better quality than Imagined. Thanks.
Oh! I forgot to mention, the last two quad copters retail for just under $200, which I thought would do better than the $100 one! Some how, they always landed upside down and sooner or later the gyro would mess up and fly sideways instead of straight up. Good video, thanks. I subscribed!
Flying in windy conditions ? I was thinking you've never been to Utah.. But then on your first fly I saw the Wasatch Mountains! Ok you've convinced me that the Phantom 3 Pro is just what I need. thank you ! (SLC dude)

Thank You.
These things are cool beyond words! The "Return to Home" button is especially impressive. It's like something out of a sci-fi movie!
The drone does fly out 5km or for people in US 3miles which is pretty impressive since you can get live feed out that far.
Is it with range extenders?
Is this really suitable for a first time drone/quadcopter owner?? You made it look very easy indeed.......
Amazing piece of technology for a toy :D
To be fair, the best thing about it, is the AMAZING video footage you get.
+theodoro89 the Phantom series are not quite as professional as any 6 or 8 rotor platform, but they're still not to be considered toys... this is your "toy"

I love my DJI inspire 1. DJI has been doing great with their software. Flying, for me, has turned into a hobby as well as a great production tool.

The DJI Phantom 3 is the iPhone of drones.
So... the best?
+Snazzy Labs Woah now, that's debatable! :D

Thanks for taking the time to make this, awesome video.
I've seen a lot of Drone video's coming out of the SLC area! I live here and want to get into this hobby, where can I go (shops?) to pick one of these bad boys up?
Extremely impressive with the stability of the video
Really great video man! I just ordered mine and should be here Tuesday! I waited on a deal myself and got a bundle with Carbon Fiber backpack, extra battery, lens kit, extra blades, corel pc office suite 5, cleaning kit and SD 64GB memory card. For the low price of $848 shipped to the door! Yes it's the 3 Pro also!
Just bought one. Phantom 3 Pro!!Pro has 4K - Awesome Video. Dont forget the ND filter - A MUST!!!
Love my Phantom . I've been out every week obtaining footage. Fantastic...
The Phantom 3 is great! Wish the 4k bitrate was much higher though! Thanks for sharing.
What a great video. I think you have answered every question I have related to drones/quad-copters. Thank you.
I just got a Phantom 4. Love it so far.
Thanks nice video! can't wait to get my first drone this year...might get the new Phantom 4 coming out next week...
Thanks for the details onpoint, its been almost 3 months of research lol and this is by far a very satisfying documentation of dji ph 3 pro, i had my eye on the other ones but the specs stood out pretty good for this one thanks again.
Is that video really from the drone I find it hard to believe it is that stable.
Lol you caught me. It's from my private helicopter.
+Snazzy Labs is it that of were did tou not were to go so is it so not to be okay?
+osparker2 Yeah, I have an AR Drone and the video quality is so far behind this and the stability isn't even close to the DJI Phantom but what else would you expect for a couple hundred dollars less and a few years old.
+osparker2 I have this drone and yes, it is this stable.
This is legit the craziest drone ever omg i so would LOVE One
An excellent vid and demo just what I needed as I have been toying with the idea for a while now there is no excuse thank you very much for this snazzy labs.
Love the stability of the gimbal. Gotta get me one.
Saw your scope stream, never realized how little the difference is between the phantom and inspire.
I will be looking for a deal like you got.
love your vids dude! This is in my opinion the best review of P3pro out there!
Hey, read the manual! Always open your remote controller antennas for best range and don't take the risk!
That is ridiculously stable, looks awesome.
Make sure to point those out before flying.
congrats on your new drone bro! great video!
Let me stop by and fly that drone man! I'm super jelly!
+Tomas Villegas Swing on in, bro. The invitation is always there.
+Matt Gonzalez www.dji.com/product/ipad-ground-station
It does not need much extra software & hardware to be a fully autonomous Drone.
You look like a really genuine guy. Great review
to the guy below same thing happened to me. when I had my professional for 4 days I did the firmware update I flew it it completely went sideways and smashed into the ground nothing left completely broken in pieces.
+John Pad
I bought my DJI 3 Pro and received it before New Years 2016.
That was the review I have been searching for. You could not have made it any more comprehensive. Thanks and....I'm getting one!!!
Wow, that was fantastic and very informative. You actually help the company with this video as you have convinced me to go ahead and get one. The controls seems easy to operate and images are awesome and better quality than Imagined. Thanks.
I just bought one and love it .. Very stable. Good review
Thanks for the video. Now I will definitely buy this toy for Christmas.
do a propper imu calibration then a gimbal calibration to correct your horizons.
It's so stable & smooth the cam~
Oh! I forgot to mention, the last two quad copters retail for just under $200, which I thought would do better than the $100 one! Some how, they always landed upside down and sooner or later the gyro would mess up and fly sideways instead of straight up. Good video, thanks. I subscribed!
Wow another great video! Appreciate the effort you put in these.
I love how your mustache keeps getting progressively fancier.
Congrats on your purchase! I'm loving my P3 Pro! 👍
+iNokia droidios lol no. Buy it directly from their website, or Amazon. Or a reliable eBay seller.
+Elites Engineering thats a spam
BlueMountPicture s I know.
Really good and detailed review!
Technology is so dang cool right now!
AWESOME! I have the phantom 2. did you do anything to the video at the end? colors look more vibrant,
Sweet, how do you like it?
Thanks for the video. I'm wondering how these things do in the rain.
Great video and instructions, which IPad did you utilize.?
Flying in windy conditions ? I was thinking you've never been to Utah.. But then on your first fly I saw the Wasatch Mountains! Ok you've convinced me that the Phantom 3 Pro is just what I need. thank you ! (SLC dude)
I just noticed that your RC Transmitter antenna is not in the correct position. They must be parallel to the legs of the aircraft.
the mustache always cracks me up hahaha awesome review
very good demonstration of the phantom 3 pro! Thanks!
