The 1st and Only Black Woman to Have a # 1 Rock Song On the Billboard Rock Chart.. Shes a Head Banger
Tina Turner says hi
Absolutely, I was utterly impressed and wish she had continued to push this envelope if she did I never was blessed enough to see it. Just beautiful rock an roll! Love Tina Tuner too, we need more of this why should there be so few.
Well, Janet borrowed and reworked the Riff from "I Hate Myself for Loving You" by Joan Jeff and the Blackhearts. She has a rock hit because she copied an existing rock song.
I'm just happy ALL of these women y'all are arguing about, rocked their legacies in their own unique ways. \m/
Homeboy sure can wail away on the Guitar 4 sure...😉🙃✌👌✊
Janet did this song because She stated She'd always wanted to do a Rock song! She pulled that off big time!
Yeah she said as a teen she was a big fan of Motley Crue, Poison and the like. She obviously knew what she was doing here. I don't think any other pop artist besides Janet or Michael could've pulled this off. Especially to the extent of hard rock/metal fans liking it. We will _pounce_ if a crossover comes off as pandering or inauthentic, which is probably why few attempt to dip their toes in the genre to begin with.
@@zmbdog I think Lenny Cravitz, Prince and maybe even Bruno Mars could have done a great job at it, too. Especially Lenny & Prince and especially as a duet. I could also see Sheila E. on percussion and and back- up vocals on this track. Whatdayathink?
@@virgilwyatt4632 I'm not familiar with Bruno Mars. Prince or Lenny Kravitz I could see but I've never thought of them as purely 'pop' stars. Lenny's always had a rock edge and Prince is like...experimental is what he does. I'm kinda surprised he hasn't ventured into metal. He actually commissioned Warrant's demos! They were done at Paisley Park and led to the band getting signed with Columbia.
@@virgilwyatt4632 Okay somehow the second half of my comment is MIA. Weird, here's the redux...
As far as someone firmly in mainstream pop...it's hard to imagine. Like, Madonna or Paula Abdul couldn't do this. You can just tell, they don't have it in them. Cher might. I can't seem to gauge her. I just see a game show mystery box. I'd say the closest to maybe doing it well would be Tina Turner or Bonnie Tyler. Vocally, no problem. I just question if they could write it. This one isn't just good, it's appropriate, lyrically. And I'd bet it happened naturally, she just wrote what she felt. I like "Escapade" but if this song had the same subject matter, it wouldn't gel. I think with Tina or Bonnie we'd probably get something along those lines at best and it would just seem disingenuous. I'd love to hear them do a metal cover. Especially Tina, I could see her getting up on stage even with something super-heavy and just blow it up!
She wrote it on her own and it went number one. That must have felt so fulfilling!!
Black cat is one of Janet's best songs 🎵

Janet Jackson goes Metal!!!! 🤘🏻
Fun Fact: Janet wrote this entire song; music first, then words. Perfect song, and an absolute headbanger. (Metalhead here ) She should have done some more songs like this.
Fun Fact II: Nuno Bettencourt on gtr
She was also a huge fan of Motley Crue especially Dr. Feelgood, Which inspired her to add the heavy guitar riffs.
Jada Pinkett is more metal than Janet.
On her "All For You" album, she's got some rock headbangers like "You Ain't Right" and "Trust A Try".

Arguably one of the most under rated greatest music artists ever. Looking back at what she achieved with Rhythm Nation is untouched by any other artist.

What's dope is that, she was never in the shadow of Michael Jackson. It was easy to forget they were brother and sister which is good. Yea, maybe her being his litter sister got her foot in the door but, after that, she took off running in her own direction and made sure to leave her trail.
I agree. Janet never relied on her last name or her brother. She became an star in her own right.

She probably wishes that too. It's been said for years that Janet (and to a lesser extent, Michael) would've rather pursued hard rock/metal if left to their own devices. But being part of a pop establishment like the Jackson family your path is somewhat predetermined, especially with Michael and Janet being the youngest.

Bill Randolph Bitch Madonna is queen. Janet is no competition.
Phillip Daniel you got it wrong Janet would kick Madonna's ass when it comes down to music and dancing
Alise Thompson Both of them aren't very musical. And Madonna would totally kick ass in dancing. She practices dance moves, old and new, for hours every day and she's 7 years older than Janet.
+Phillip Daniel Janet has proved in the past as well recently in her concerts that she can dance stronger, sharper and smoother even if she's 7 years younger than Madonna. Watching her technical dance routines in her music videos and concert footage is more than enough proof she's way ahead of the rest. Now, don't get me wrong, I was also a huge Madonna fan growing up and still to this day listen to her past work. Janet was and still is a force to be wreckon with when it comes to her dance skills. ,

it is NOT underrated! just because you feel a certain way about something does not make it so! Its rated whatever it is according to how many ppl like it! so sick of ppl saying' this or that" is so underrated! bust a nut of you need to but stop saying that.
@@doobly140 whaaaaaa 😭 want a tissue?
Well, she kind of rips Michael off in every sense in this song - looks, clothes, moves, "do a heavy guitar-riff-song a la Michael Jackson Bad-era". So she deserved to walk in Micheal's shadow as he was the true king.
@@doobly140bro…chiiiill 😆
I’d say Janet is on the same level as Michael. Michael is more popular but that’s because he was recording music about a decade before Janet’s self titled debut album was released. Control and Rhythm Nation 1814 is what propelled her to superstar status.
slammin guitar on this track
Nuno!
I am 53 years. When I cruise around in my new Telluride with this song slappin' at maximum volume, I feel like a MILLION. DAMN. DOLLARS. Thank you, Janet.
A Telluride? Why'd you buy a Korean piece of junk like that for?! Are you aware that Koreans also eat dog meat??
What an incredible song and display of versatility. She was a performer in every sense of the word. There's nothing like Janet Jackson in the music industry today.
I love her dance music, and her more pop songs, but Janet Jackson has a voice for rock n roll - I would love for her to put out an all rock album before she retires.
One of the greatest artist and songs and music videos of all time
This one of my favorite music of Janet Jackson ❤
Great tune and artist. We tried with my friend from R&O to review this great song. Maybe we succeeded, maybe not, we let you be the judge if you have two or three minutes to spare and a thumb up or down to add, come listen and judge us here :-) : ruclips.net/video/jf3NHvyhmkI/видео.html and stay safe
Yes me too
Back then, music videos weren't as nasty and rauchy like nowadays, Janet Jackson had one of the best music videos ever.
And to think people don't want her in the Rock Hall this year. She deserves it for this song alone!
You better preach 👏👏
What?!
Even metal fans love this song! \m/ Rock it Janet! 😘💜
You are not wrong Kevin and believe me I know. I am one 🤘
