This song is actually really damn good! Pretty positive this just shot up to my favorite Janet Jackson song, and that's coming from a predominant Metalhead!
Especially when you find out that riff was originally written and recorded by none other than Nuno Bettencourt. Michael got Eddie, she took Nuno. They knew what they were doing
SAW THIS CONCERT April 22nd, 1990, I was the fourth person in very SHORT LINE at TOWER RECORDS SUNSET in Hollywood. FRONT ROW TICKETS for $28.50... Janet looked exactly as this video in person. Beyonce has nothing on Janet when it comes to style, originality, and entertainment. IT WAS the BEST CONCERT SHE EVER GAVE !!!❤❤🫡
I was at this concert. I'm was like 15 years and old my family surprised me with these tickets. Yo.... I.... lost my mind. I could not believe I was that close to her & the energy was OFF the chain. What a wonderful woman & time.
It wasn't the lyrics that got me into this song. It's was her voice and the electric guitars that got to my soul and the fact that its Janet Jackson❤❤I wish she would've did like a whole rock album because she rocked the hell outta this song😎
Do u know the original guitar solo of this song was played by nuno bettencourt of EXTREME if you all dont believe me look up nuno bettencourt early interviews and hear it from him
She probably wishes that too. It's been said for years that Janet (and to a lesser extent, Michael) would've rather pursued hard rock/metal if left to their own devices. But being part of a pop establishment like the Jackson family your path is somewhat predetermined, especially with Michael and Janet being the youngest.
I was a metal head back in the early 90’s. There were Metallica fans flipping when she released this. There was just no denying her talent. Incredible artist and so versatile.
Yeah just imagine Janet and Metallica teaming up to perform this song, that would be something. What do you think? Just like you I'm also a metal head and have been for over 25 years.
I mean, the guy who produced this video version of Black Cat just so happened to be Michael Wagener, the guy who mixed Master of Puppets so... you're really not far off :P
I was a senior in high school when this song was popular. Even though I listened to a lot of Metallica and Motley Crue, I still loved artists like Janet and Madonna. Rhythm Nation is still my favorite of Janet's and Black Cat ROCKS! . She's a true legend and her documentary was amazing.
@@davidhabert Considering the attitude of the band members back then, I'm pretty sure the last thing they wanted was to have something to do with a pop star as much as they respected her. In the late 90s tho, they 100% would've done it and i'm pretty sure that would've been a pretty iconic moment in music history.
July 24, 1990 saw Janet perform this on this tour in Indy's Market Square Arena. Awesome show by a great talent. Ah, the good old days! I remember sitting by a little girl that was lucky enough to get backstage to meet Janet and all she could talk about was how beautiful Janet's hair was.

Alise Thompson Both of them aren't very musical. And Madonna would totally kick ass in dancing. She practices dance moves, old and new, for hours every day and she's 7 years older than Janet.
+Phillip Daniel Janet has proved in the past as well recently in her concerts that she can dance stronger, sharper and smoother even if she's 7 years younger than Madonna. Watching her technical dance routines in her music videos and concert footage is more than enough proof she's way ahead of the rest. Now, don't get me wrong, I was also a huge Madonna fan growing up and still to this day listen to her past work. Janet was and still is a force to be wreckon with when it comes to her dance skills. ,
+Phillip Daniel uh, no. Madonna may have practiced dance moves, ect...but, in her videos, as well as in concert, she has YET to display much of it. Janet trained under THE BEST performer/dancer there ever was, this guy...hmmm, what's his name.....wait for it...MICHAEL JACKSON......get over it...Janet ...not only is superior to Madonna in performing, she also writes many great tunes.....
@candirenee I'm very impressed by your comparison between Joan Jett and Janet Jackson. Here's something for you to think about, could you imagine them teaming up.
Janet is one the best singer/dancer to ever exist. Black Cat is fire, the energy it produces, captures your body and you can't help but move to the beat. Before you know it, you feel enraptured by it caught up in its grasp. You feel powerful and you feel like you can take on anything. And when they hit you with that guitar solo. You are headbanging to it. Janet this one of the best songs you have ever done. Female singers take notes this how its done.
Because Janet and Michael have a lot of the same on mannerism I sometimes feel like I'm watching Michael from the Dirty Diana or Another Part of Me video. It's also because of the outfits. Two amazing sibling performers.
+Letissia Scott Especially during this time. MJ wore the same pants, shirt and boots and his hair was longer. Couple that with those "looks" and snaps of the head and every other body part, it really is like watching either one of them. Janet brought the house down with her first albums.
+Letissia Scott I agree, I know in an interview--not sure which of them said it--but they said they often felt like they were in a playful competition together with each other

I'm a 49 year old MetalHead and I can tell you flat out that this song is very popular and fun song to play with the Rock & METAL communities. Look for this song to get the "cover versions" treatment in the days to come, from said communities. As good as they will be, they'll never be able to touch the original song.

Janet looks so much like brother Michael in this video. The eyes, the smile, the snarl, etc. Both are fantastic dancers, singer, and all around entertainers. Both are spellbinding to watch. Never got to see Michael in concert but I did see Janet and she was absolutely awesome. They are such a talented family.
I was at her concert at the Tacoma Dome when this video was premiered. They showed it right before Janet started her show; they said they had just finished it that day and we were the first people to see it. The place went wild. I love this song so much, I wish she had done more rock songs.
BJMallory congratulations 🎉!! I attended her concert at Joe Louis Arena and I would’ve lost my mind if that happened. You were blessed to experience the video premiere of a classic song. For the album version of "Black Cat", most of the guitar lines were played by Dave Barry, including the intro, main riff, and a memorable thematic solo. Barry consequently became Janet Jackson's longtime touring guitarist. John McClain, A&R executive for A&M Records, provided the slide-guitar part, while Jellybean Johnson played the funky guitar part that punctuates the album version of the song. Although credited on the album, Jesse Johnson provided a guitar solo that was not used for the album version, but is featured in each of the remixes. The video edit of "Black Cat" features Nuno Bettencourt of Extreme on rhythm guitar, while the 'Guitar Mix' features Vernon Reid of Living Colour.

Thejdreamerzful THAT'S THE REASON why I DON'T go to concerts, anymore! In my opinion, in THIS day and age, (it seems) people don't go to concerts for the music-they go ONLY to RECORD (or is that "bootleg") the show for "later viewing." In other words, given or with the number modern gadgets AT concerts, concerts have become or are, now, "press conferences!"
I attended both the Rhythm Nation tour and the Janet tour. Best female performer I’ve ever seen LIVE. I rarely attend concerts today but the lack of iPhones back in the day made the concerts much more enjoyable because you were more into the experience of being there. Being there feels a lot different in comparison to watching the concerts on RUclips. You would’ve had a blast attending her tours back then. High energy, raw talent, amazing choreography and authentic singing 🎤. Seriously, she was the biggest female artist on the planet when “Rhythm Nation” was released, bigger than Madonna and nearly on the level of her brother Michael (RIP) and Prince (RIP).

My favorite❤️❤️
Janet style is so versatile....hard for these young girls to compete with this legend
So disappointed that she never did a rock album. This song was popular back in the day amongst rock lovers including myself. I still listen to this song. Never gets old.
Your not wrong there. I don't know if you saw what I wrote, apparently Lemmy (god rest his soul) from Motorhead absolutely loved that song and even wanted to do a duet with Janet. His record company said NO.
After MJ saw his sister do this video he immediately went into the studio to create some heavy tones and sounds for his next project - Dangerous. They both inspired each other.
Great tune and artist. We tried with my friend from R&O to review this great song. Maybe we succeeded, maybe not, we let you be the judge if you have two or three minutes to spare and a thumb up or down to add, come listen and judge us here :-) : ruclips.net/video/jf3NHvyhmkI/видео.html and stay safe
He was a big fan of the entire Rhythm Nation album, especially The Knowledge.
They are and we're both capable of some seriously hard rock.
MJ already did Dirty Diana at this point
This whole video is giving Dirty Diana and Come Together ngl
The Jackson family is just gifted period......this is just flawless...I'm in awe......Janet is just gorgeous in voice, looks and dance moves.....I miss her brother but I'm grateful that Janet still kicks butt
*I WAS AT THAT CONCERT!!!!!!!!!* Awesome memories :)
Lucky!!!! :'(

Just a year behind Janet :(

omg u are so lucky
Raveen Brack Yeah it was something to remember that's for sure!
Classic song by a classic artist and one of my favorites. ❤
Same!
me too!
I'm a 60 year old white man who grew up on classic rock and in my opinion this is a truly kick ass song !

This is by far the worst song on the album because of the terrible hair metal guitar.

Fair Warning
Written and Produced by Janet Jackson... Don't undermine. Her musical talent..
And Jellybean Johnson
Yes he shared production on this gem, but this was pretty much all Janet she wrote song independently and she wrote guitar line on her own....
Dustin Jackson That's why Janet is a true entertainer
Yes indeed
Joshua McDowell Yep, Jellybean Johnson is responsible for the guitar solo. Everything else was Janet.
Janet Jackson at the top of her game take notes YOUNG Artists
what for, they don’t need to 🤷♀️ today era you can get in the industry without talent and make it big by twerking or using twitter to do dumb shit

My all time favorite Janet track
Janet can go from R&B to pop and Rock with the same power and talent... Unique!! Janet the Queen Icon of Music :)
It wasn't the lyrics that got me into this song. It's was her voice and the electric guitars that got to my soul and the fact that its Janet Jackson❤❤I wish she would've did like a whole rock album because she rocked the hell outta this song😎
Yeah she did. Killed it 😁
Nuno Bettencourt from Extreme recorded the guitars in this track.
Nuno did guitar wonder why they didn’t highlight him
Do u know the original guitar solo of this song was played by nuno bettencourt of EXTREME if you all dont believe me look up nuno bettencourt early interviews and hear it from him
She probably wishes that too.
@@pascalfarful952 cool. This song rips! 🤘
Janet needs to write/record more rock! She can pull it off!
This is where my love of rock came from her and Michael's Dirty Diana let me know it was okay to be a black girl that loved rock!!!!
Oh HECK YEAH!
facts
Rhianna Barr I do to
Rhianna Barr Back in the day when I worked security for a sawmill I would blare Black Cat on the way home to keep me awake coming home from the night watch. some day watches too for that matter. Janet and Meatloaf (yes I have odd tastes in music) kept me awake long enough to make it home and too my bed on many occasions.
Janet Jackson is a true living legend. Trust and believe me touring and performing isn't easy as we think and Janet is a example of hard work.

Madonna wishes she could put out a kick-ass tune like 'Black Cat'....Janet f-ing rocks this tune!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Bill Randolph Bitch Madonna is queen. Janet is no competition.
Phillip Daniel you got it wrong Janet would kick Madonna's ass when it comes down to music and dancing
She reminds me of Joan Jett here with her aggressive vocals and song arrangement 🤘
I always thought this was a Joan Jett song
@candirenee I'm very impressed by your comparison between Joan Jett and Janet Jackson. Here's something for you to think about, could you imagine them teaming up.
It reminds me of Dirty Diana
@@davidhabert Oh, wouldn't that be FABULOUS!?!? YES!
Glad I was able to find Joan Jett from Janet's strong high gravity.
She should have been a rock star, not a pop star! Damn she was good.

From the very first time I ever heard this song I always thought more rock n roll was her calling. I wish she would’ve done many more like this
She liked listening to music from Mötley Crüe and Def Leppard and I think that came through in this song.
Janet and Michael could both pull off good rock albums
No better performers in my generation than King Michael and Queen Janet. Oh and their last name is JACKSON damnit!
The Jackson name is blessed
The panther sound was iconic, Love you Janet !!!!
Man, my first concert was the Rhythm Nation Tour back in 1990..I was 4 years old. Black Cat was my JAM. I still remember her on stage and I stood on my chair while my mom held my waist and I got DOWN man...I was jammin. Civic Arena was bumpin that night!
Janet looks so much like brother Michael in this video. The eyes, the smile, the snarl, etc. Both are fantastic dancers, singer, and all around entertainers. Both are spellbinding to watch. Never got to see Michael in concert but I did see Janet and she was absolutely awesome. They are such a talented family.
was it that she looked like him or he started to look like her? he did get a bit of work done.
Nevertheless, it was a great concert and I was blessed to be able to attend. I do agree that she should’ve attempted more rock songs but she still can if she wants.

Black Cat"
All the lonely nights I spend alone
Never around to love me
You're always gone
Cause you're hangin out
Breakin' the rules
Oh the man has come
Looking for you
You're a rebel now
Don't give a damn
Always carrying on
With the gang
I'm trying to tell you boy
It's a mistake
You won't realize
Til it's too late
Don't understand
Why you insist
On ways of living such a dangerous life
Time after time you stay away
And I just know that you're telling me lies
Black cat
Nine lives
Short days
Long nights
Livin on the edge
Not afraid to die
Heart beat
Real strong
But not
For long
Better watch your step
Or you're gonna die
You're so together boy
But just at a glance
You'll do anything
If given a chance
Scheming, plannin lies
To get what you need
So full of promises
That you never keep
Don't you tell yourself
That it's okay
Sick and tired of
All of your games
And you want me to stay
Better change
Makes no sense to me
Your crazy ways
Black cat
Nine lives
Short days
Long nights
Livin on the edge
Not afraid to die
Heart beat
Real strong
But not
For long
Better watch your step
Or you're gonna die

The Jackson siblings are so good at rock between this and "Dirty Diana".
Have you forgotten “Beat It”?
Heard this song on the radio. Shazamed it straight away. Couldn’t believe it was Janet Jackson! This song is unreal
WOW! Just look at the people ENJOYING the concert, back in a time when they used to dance and have fun and not FILM everything whit their iphones! Gosh I only wish I could have seen Janet at this time and me and my friends would have rock out!!!
