You are so right! NO ONE expected this from little Janet, then BAM, she lit the world on fire! Female acts weren't doing this level of dance/choreography back then, where she was as good if not better than trained dancers, in lock-step with them. It's commonplace now, but she was one of the first female artists to kick it off at this level, with that sass, and looking great!

What act ever performed like this along with their producers? NO ONE! This performance has stood the test of time and is better than any Grammy performance I've seen in the last ten years or so.

@@jacksongreene3687 It is not. The vocals are pre-recorded. But so what? It's a common practice especially for artists who move a lot when performing.

The bridge to this song is still one of the best in pop music. As are many others in the Jam and Lewis catalog.

...i remember this like it was last night...when the audience cheered and he said her name...and the 4 count...and her head popped up and she said....gimme a beat...and the double 8 count of funky dancing...she turned her head...stared down the audience...then the funky break....i remember saying....oh shit...and the rest ....was history...she was so ...funky...and in your face with it...and the GRAMMIES......just never had had that kind of attitude before...with such subtext....
