I love how her brother was the most famous man on the world and was never called “Michael Jackson’s sister”.

Janet was a force to be reckon with in her own right
@@Vaisin how do you know 👁️👄👁️
Actually people in comment are just talking about Michael Jackson.
Moon Bitch which is sad, but I think a lot of it comes from him being dead. We still miss him, looking at Janet is a reminder of him.
Michael and Janet Jackson have revolutionized modern choreography more than anyone
songbird53 Paula taught Janet
The choreographer is the same of Michael Jackson. She dances very well because she love a lot her brother Michael. They love each other.
bih kat I’ve come to realized this. Everyone is influenced..... Paula was a good Choreographer
But you would be stunned 😳 at the unsung.
Talent both MJ and his Entire tribe incorporated.... These people are disciplined
I see Fela Kuti, Fred Astaire, Paula Abdul is also a great dancer 💃 but I wouldn’t site
Her as the muse .... Janet’s five brothers
Maybe influenced her 😻 (no shade to Paula
Paula Abdul met Janet because she'd done some choreography for the Jackson's and her brothers thought so much of Paula's work and thought she'd work well with Janet and she choreographed 2 videos for Janet. No one can teach someone how to dance, they can show you the steps or choreography but you either have or you don't, just like singing. What's really interesting is that MJ has used many choreographers but no one has ever said any of them choreographers taught him how to dance and Janet's no different!
@@shawnjones4527That is very true!!!
The Jacksons had such incredible talent. I didnt realize until i was a little older that Rhythm Nation was a song about social injustice, and creating better times.

Sorry babe but that is and will always be Madonna.

Why do certain people like to put Janet and Michael against each other?? Come on they are brother and sister! They both inspired each other! Both Michael and Janet supported each other!
Right
+Ariana Slay and they were actually in 2 separate mediums, she was an actress (still is?) and an rnb singer, mike was the "king of pop" enough in its own right
Micahel had originally planned to do this in his own music video, but Janet asked Michael if it was ok that she used the idea of dancing in an "army" style for hers. So that's maybe why so many say that she is trying to be like her brother, because it was something he had planned to use for himself. So it's pretty similar something Michael would have done. How come some of her biggest Spotify country listeners are from Australia and the UK 🥴. You can enjoy Madonna with putting down Janet because she’s influenced just as many people as her.
Iconic? Perhaps, but it just looks like a knock-off of Michael J's "robotic" staccato choreography, to my eyes anyway. Also, *very* distracting: makes it even _harder_ to try to make out the words she's singing if you're watching all that "twitching" as well!
Actually, the whole song looks and feels like MJ, now I come to think of it … I expect I'm not the first person to say that, but this is the first time I've heard this song, or seen this video!

Michael & Janet= Legends down in history 👑
This album is I feel one of the most under-rated albums of all time. It has hit after hit and no fillers. Now so many years have gone by the social problems the album touches upon are still present and possibly worse. Sad that Janet became the fall girl after the Super Bowel performance. Timberlake was untouched which spooks me. This girl deserves a total second chance at the top pin. No one today could pull off a album like Rhythm Nation. Sadly I rarely ever hear the songs off this album on the radio. If your a young thing it's a must have album to key into.
The album wasn't underrated at the time of its release. But you are right; I would say that now, it has disappeared from hearing pleasure, which is so sad because it is very iconic and the "conscious" songs are very much relevant today. Shame on the music industry for hiding this gem. JERKS!
Really is though, same with Lauryn Hill and the miseducation album....The industry will bury socially aware material in exchange for superficial, corrupt garbage or booty poppin club mixes...
Miranda Nevels I disagree Lauryn's album went Platinum and she received five Grammys. Today other artists are samping her music i.e. Ex-Factor.
leokimvideo If it's any consolation, I think this song (among Janet's best) is solidly in place among the classics that people still love to hear. When Joseph Gordon-Levitt danced to this on LipSync Battle, it was clear that the audience response to the song was just out-of-control (and props to Joseph for putting in the effort to learn the difficult choreography, although he must have danced to it too when he was still a kid). Bottom line: Janet is still very much a legend, Timberlake is not, and most likely will never be.
leokimvideo umm its not and never was under rated. it sold upwards of 15 mill or more and won all kinds of awards. janet is still performing these songs. pure art . legend.
The comments on this video are hilarious! Its Michael vs Janet which is insane because they loved each other and never had a jealous bone in their body about each others success. Michael once said that because they were so close, they often thought alike. Both came up with the military style but he let her run with it. There was no permission to give. You can be a Michael fan, w/o being Janet's and vice versa but battling them is ridiculous. Sure he was the King of Pop but don't act like Janet needed him to get where she was/is. Grow up people.

Exactly
Somebody said Michael influenced her dance moves in this song? Ermm... I'm a HUGE HUGE fan of Michael Jackson but I know when recognition is due. Michael Jackson has said so himself that what Janet did during the Rhythm Nation 1814 era inspired his future body of work, and he also said that she surpassed him. He didn't start doing his military style performances on stage until the Dangerous era (1991) and most of the moves you see Janet doing here you will see him do it in his performances post-Rhythm Nation. Most notably 2:06 - 2:25 ; Michael Jackson frequently used those dance moves during the military-style dance breaks in all his performances (and even just in general) post-RN.
P.S Just clocked this... If you listen to this song properly, you will notice that he sampled it for their song Scream!!
That's because Michael Jackson did influence this dance routine seeing as how Michael Jackson influenced 90% of the routines you see today. This entire video is basically a remix of his smooth criminal skit mixed with some of his previous work. It looks like the choreographer added some new steps, but please don't act like 90% here isn't Michael.
Batman it really isn't though. yes he has influenced her work but this particular video influenced HIM, thats my point.
Batman i don't think you read what i said properly. I specified the MILITARY style, which he did not incorporate into his dance moves until the dangerous era. A lot of the dance moves you see in this video he did not do until POST- rhythm nation
b Yea like I said the choreographer did add a few new steps (the military style steps incorporated at 2:06 - 2:25), and I'm pretty sure he was heavily influenced by that and decided to input it into his further videos. But you were acting like this entire video was all her and everything here was all new and non-influenced, that's the reason why I had to step in because I'm pretty sure if Michael hadn't changed the pop/r&b group dance genre entirely this video wouldn't even have existed.
The dance move and idea was from Michael, Janet ask MJ if she could have it for this song you can watch MJ's private home interview @49:25 explaining how it ended up being Janet's

Rhythm is in the Jackson family's blood.
Can we just take a moment to appreciate and acknowledge the impact the Jackson family has had on music and pop culture ?
This hard core jam NEVER gets old!!💯
いつ聴いてもかっこいい。いまだに日本にはこんな踊りできる人いないよ
This should have way more views than it does.
Thank you !! your so right on that
I agree!!!
I was just looking at that!
supernuke so awesome
This song and video means more now in 2020 than when it was created 30 years ago🙏🏾
BIG FACTS !!
I was thinking about the hook this afternoon and started singing the song which brought me here. Sad to say you are 💯
So glad to see someone that had the same thought.
Yes!! I heard it today on Pandora. It was always one of my favorites. We all need to hear this now!!
The song is as was always powerful, Janet is a pioneer, an activist early on 1989 as a visionary down to insisting the video represents blank and white, in unisex attire recorded in Minneapolis studios.
Injustice exists all over the world. 2020 is a wake up for progress❤🙏
My laptop love this song so much❤❤❤
Das ist mit Abstand das beste Video! Diess Syncronisation, einfach alles! Es ist jetzt 2024 und kein Video kommt an das heran!!
Her brother Michael had a lot of influence and direct input in her choreography; wonderfully evident here too.
Michael had nothing to do with this video. Do you see his fucking overrated name in the credits?
TTUploads You're missing the point: Janet's older brother Michael INDIRECTLY influenced her music, choreography, and style all throughout her career. Hello, he is her b-r-o-t-h-e-r! While Michael was not in the video his familial influence has always been acknowledged and respected by Janet, whether indirectly or directly. Michael's career is highly respected by Janet. His success inspired her to perform too.
thecrowrains But he didn't have a direct input in the choreography for this project. There's a difference.
dayg715 Granted there is a difference: she is a woman, he is a man performing at his peak in the 80s/90s. You too miss the point = everyone today (2014) emulates Michael be it Justin Timberlake, Usher, etc, etc, etc! Michael HAD direct impact choreographically, musically, and stylistically. THAT is a fact. For christ's sake = he is her BROTHER. Michael may not have been on scene directly choreographing but he was directly in touch with Janet by mere fact of the aforementioned! The two grew up together! He influenced her directly!
Look at it this way = you can ONLY assume he had no direct impact on her if Janet WAS AN ACCOMPLISHED CLASSICAL MUSIC VIOLINIST. Alas Janet is NOT a classical violinist rather she let Michael directly influence her in the genre Michael ruled in the Jackson family tradition = pop music. Be it her music, her tastes, her MTV music videos, e-v-e-r-y-t-h-i-n-g!
If Timberlake and all these other NON-familial artists had direct influence by Michael long after his death, so too did his sister when HE WAS ALIVE! They all copy him today!
This video came out BEFORE instant internet media: No Facebook, no RUclips, etc. You KNOW Michael directly influenced Janet. He was the biggest icon of the 80s and 90s.
You said he had direct input in the choreography in your original comment, and he did not. I never said Janet wasn't influenced by him, everyone knows that she was. But Michael did not have direct input on the choreography for this project. That was the point.
