Music video by Janet Jackson performing Rhythm Nation. (C) 1989 A&M Records
Michael and Janet Jackson have revolutionized modern choreography more than anyone
songbird53 Paula taught Janet
The choreographer is the same of Michael Jackson. She dances very well because she love a lot her brother Michael. They love each other.
bih kat I’ve come to realized this. Everyone is influenced..... Paula was a good Choreographer
But you would be stunned 😳 at the unsung.
Talent both MJ and his Entire tribe incorporated.... These people are disciplined
I see Fela Kuti, Fred Astaire, Paula Abdul is also a great dancer 💃 but I wouldn’t site
Her as the muse .... Janet’s five brothers
Maybe influenced her 😻 (no shade to Paula
Paula Abdul met Janet because she'd done some choreography for the Jackson's and her brothers thought so much of Paula's work and thought she'd work well with Janet and she choreographed 2 videos for Janet. No one can teach someone how to dance, they can show you the steps or choreography but you either have or you don't, just like singing. What's really interesting is that MJ has used many choreographers but no one has ever said any of them choreographers taught him how to dance and Janet's no different!
@@shawnjones4527That is very true!!!
the talent of the Jackson family is undeniable
They are the most talented family ever to exist, unbeatable !!

I Totally Agree 💯
I wanted to avoid the comparison but:
Janet copies her brother's steps and movements ( Michael Jackson) .
Her choreography is similar to that of Michael.

People need to appreciate this Dance Choreography A LOT more.
I agree. Paula Abdul was the choreographer for this video
No, Anthony Thomas and Janet choreographed this!!! Omg!!!

No one can dance anymore lol. Twerking isn't dancing.

It still blows me away how after all this time this choreography continues to stand out among the top routines in hip hop history. Every element throughout the video is to spec, crisp, poised, and on point. Flawless, timeless, iconic.

@@CosmicVisitors Yup you're right
😂😂😂 Bro, the outfits and Choreography are trash.
They look like the empire from Star Wars
The Jacksons had such incredible talent. I didnt realize until i was a little older that Rhythm Nation was a song about social injustice, and creating better times.
Oh gawd yes! Check out DESIGNER COUNTRY Kenny Nash.. just a country version 😂😂😂 enjoy life it goes fast! Kenny😂
This album is I feel one of the most under-rated albums of all time. It has hit after hit and no fillers. Now so many years have gone by the social problems the album touches upon are still present and possibly worse. Sad that Janet became the fall girl after the Super Bowel performance. Timberlake was untouched which spooks me. This girl deserves a total second chance at the top pin. No one today could pull off a album like Rhythm Nation. Sadly I rarely ever hear the songs off this album on the radio. If your a young thing it's a must have album to key into.
The album wasn't underrated at the time of its release. But you are right; I would say that now, it has disappeared from hearing pleasure, which is so sad because it is very iconic and the "conscious" songs are very much relevant today. Shame on the music industry for hiding this gem. JERKS!
Really is though, same with Lauryn Hill and the miseducation album....The industry will bury socially aware material in exchange for superficial, corrupt garbage or booty poppin club mixes...
Miranda Nevels I disagree Lauryn's album went Platinum and she received five Grammys. Today other artists are samping her music i.e. Ex-Factor.
leokimvideo If it's any consolation, I think this song (among Janet's best) is solidly in place among the classics that people still love to hear. When Joseph Gordon-Levitt danced to this on LipSync Battle, it was clear that the audience response to the song was just out-of-control (and props to Joseph for putting in the effort to learn the difficult choreography, although he must have danced to it too when he was still a kid). Bottom line: Janet is still very much a legend, Timberlake is not, and most likely will never be.
leokimvideo umm its not and never was under rated. it sold upwards of 15 mill or more and won all kinds of awards. janet is still performing these songs. pure art . legend.
Best choreography ever. Talented Jackson family.

Janet called MJ and asked could she steal this choreography from him...and he let her...and she became miss Rythym Nation.

How come some of her biggest Spotify country listeners are from Australia and the UK 🥴. You can enjoy Madonna with putting down Janet because she’s influenced just as many people as her.
Iconic? Perhaps, but it just looks like a knock-off of Michael J's "robotic" staccato choreography, to my eyes anyway. Also, *very* distracting: makes it even _harder_ to try to make out the words she's singing if you're watching all that "twitching" as well!
Actually, the whole song looks and feels like MJ, now I come to think of it … I expect I'm not the first person to say that, but this is the first time I've heard this song, or seen this video!
But hey: if *you* enjoy it, then great! Just doesn't appeal to me in any way though, sorry.
Shooting this is B&W was a genius idea.
It fits the whole industrial outlook.

I was about to comment that too... bingo
Also, it's not lost on me that it was recorded in Minneapolis too. Still relevant on so many levels.
I prefer this message to the one that's out there. It's about working together to remove colour lines to live under one nation. Not about retribution and not about black vs white vs blue vs red America.
MsJubjubbird This was before Rodney King. Keep that in mind.

yaaasssss, same here!! i really miss the hype of 80's-90's dance song!!
Same!!! Honestly 70s-80s music were and will always be the best music
Same
And im glad you are here!
This is Janet's best! The choreography is insanely fucking amazing!! I want to be a part of her Rhythm Nation.
ME ASWELL even if it's just too be standing up and being counted as someone who wants change NOW/YESTERDAY!!!!!
2023, Janet Jackson and Michael Jackson are still the legend of pop music.❤
I don't think people in 2020 understand how ground shaking this album was in 1989. A masterpiece ! The preamble is what we should all aspire to.
BRAVO!! Well said!! I don’t want anyone of these younger people dismissing GenX anymore. We were WELL aware and always exposing injustice. But we did it together. We did with intelligence, without color lines and without all the WOKE propaganda.
Your 100% right there.
I really want to know why we don't have epic shit like this anymore... WHY??? What's stopping artists being innovative and captivating like in the 80's and 90's? There's literally no superstars and mega groups anymore.
Nester Laziness and easy money. Confidence and trust in skill have been transformed into cockiness and too much bling bling. Buzz and mediaplay have become the perfect tool for people to become famous and youth model (kim kardashian for example) when before you had to master at least one skill to have credibility as an artist and get people recognition
Nester very few people actually want to put in that WORK. I grew up trying to do this video at home and it's pretty damn hard. Even if you get all the moves right, you get winded. Even when I search for people ATTEMPTING to do this choreography, they skip steps to make it easier. I've only seen one dance group get it sort of right and they were really young elementary school kids.
Jason Well we had "This is America" this year, I hope it will inspire other artists to do similar stuff
watch Nature - pop project Rhymth Nation. you wont regret it
Lack of creativity and passion for music.
This song is so strong, even for computers.
She set the STANDARD! CLASSIC!
No twerkin, no skimpy outfits, just pure talent and these lyrics are dead on to what's going on today in 2019 wish she could perform this at the Superbowl
I hate what you lot have done to twerking.
Wtripple3 Thompson I thought they said that she was banned from performing at the Super Bowl ever again after that 2004 incident
I'd def go to see that one!!!
She is banned but it'd still be awesome lol
@@heatherakers5622 She's not banned anymore.
This was a revolutionary song!! This was probably ahead of it's time. It sure is relevant to today's society! I love me some Janet!
Nothing these days come close to this incredible standard.
