It was at number 1 for an eternity here in the UK. It really is a great song, and gets it's message across far more effectively than any of the mindless PC nonsense happening today. Sadly it was the only real success story En Vogue had over here. A few of their other songs were reasonably well known because they were in movies - but that was it. They vanished from the charts after this song and only get mentioned now on a handful of music channels when a 90's recap must be produced.
I would like to point out here is yes alot of white people are asshats. But not all of us are the same. I for one frown at the asshats and it makes me hate being white. I am disgusted by racism and discrimination, I still do not know why in 2016 this still exists.
Not one weak link in the entire group. Each woman is gorgeous, looks like a supermodel. Each one could carry the lead role. En Vogue was phenomenal. There have been great girl groups since them, but En Vogue broke the mold. I remember being a little girl cat walking in my living room singing this song at the top of lungs. (probably to the detriment of my family members) This song felt so powerful then and I didn’t even grasp the full concept why, all these years later it feels just as powerful. Except now, I fully get it ♥️
Exactly right! All of the members could sing lead and one did not out shine the other. Their harmony was razor sharp. I like Destiny's child but vocally had nothing on En Vogue.
Destiny's Child has nothing in these ladies. Beyonce doesn't have even half of the vocal ranger if any one of these gals. No hate on DC, but come on now, they cannot harmonize like En Vogue, never could and never will be able to. I hate that the new way to get famous is all look and no substance.
I grew up with En Vogue and now at 49, this song is more relevant and important than ever. The key quote “ be color blind, don’t be so shallow” 🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽 should hit a nerve with people as this is the truth living in 2020!! Be kind to one another and never judge a person by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character. A MLK quote I still stand by today. I've always liked the video too, but watching it now, as an adult, it kinda feels like some of the message is lost lol What with all the dazzle and of course the stunning beauty of the artists xD
This level of talent is sorely missed today. All of them had great voices (no freakin' auto-tune) Great harmonies, very sexy and beautiful, without being trashy. Maybe they should make a comeback and show the new kids how it's done.
It's amazing how music from almost 15 years ago can still apply to today's society, 100%. It's also kind of sad that people even had to make these sort of statements, then AND now. But, what are you gonna do? People will always be shallow and ignorant, unfortunately. Thankfully, though, now people aren't afraid to speak out and be strong. So not only is this song the fucking jam, it's also incredibly powerful and positive. Man, the 90's were fuckin iconic
So you're on a rant about people's prejudice while you have a screen name about boinking dead people? Sometimes stereotypes are true, that is how they become known as stereotypes. Is it fair to paint everyone that fits the description HAS one of the idiots? No, of course not. But it's human nature to do so.
Super.Chuck First of all, not sure what you're getting your panties in a twist for. I didn't say anything about a stereotype, I was just saying how this music is empowering and how it's unfortunate that some of the prejudice and ignorance is still happening today??? Not sure what's wrong with me saying that & also don't care. And secondly, you really need to get your facts straight, my dude. *Necrophilia* is when you commit sexual acts on a dead body. *Necromancy* is basically calling upon spirits and talking to the dead. En Vogue! Why oh why can't music stay this way!! YAAAAAASSSSSS!
I remember when they released this song. Many were shocked. I'm glad that their musical team had them take risks. This worked well
It was at number 1 for an eternity here in the UK. It really is a great song, and gets it's message across far more effectively than any of the mindless PC nonsense happening today.
Sadly it was the only real success story En Vogue had over here. A few of their other songs were reasonably well known because they were in movies - but that was it. They vanished from the charts after this song and only get mentioned now on a handful of music channels when a 90's recap must be produced.
this song is still relevant today
+SunnehShides Of course. Because bitches are always hating on black people ... but appropriating our shit at the same time. Psycho fucks.
Well people of all races still haven't freed their mind:(
+Eric LifeBreeze first they program u not to hate NOW THEY WANT U TO HATE
I would like to point out here is yes alot of white people are asshats. But not all of us are the same. I for one frown at the asshats and it makes me hate being white. I am disgusted by racism and discrimination, I still do not know why in 2016 this still exists.
+SunnehShides you should not "hate being white" anymore than someone else should hate being their particular race. ALL races have jerks and racists.
Not one weak link in the entire group. Each woman is gorgeous, looks like a supermodel.
Each one could carry the lead role.
En Vogue was phenomenal.
There have been great girl groups since them, but En Vogue broke the mold.
If the business practices weren't so shady, the band wouldn't be so fractured today.
i am so grateful to have witnessed their start in real time.
And they STILL look/sound good.
i'm so tired of evil. Evil ruins everything.
I love how this song is a perfect mixture of r & b, pop and rock😍😍
I agree this has that catchy beat you find yourself moving too Micheal Jackson the along of Pop collaborated a lot with Eddie Van Halen on Thriller and BAD like Dirty Dianna is strongly Eddie Van Halen guitars
Jlo needs to follow
This song is still relevant N January 2020. I love En Vogue's music. This song still bangs.
... especially now. Jesus wept, and so doI. :-(
Unfortunately so. How I wish the message could've been obsolete...
Needed so badly today...BLM
And 10/2020
this is a master piece.. powerfull lyrics.. powerfull vocals, powerfull musical work, 1000% attitude.. pure power...
Agreed!!
Couldn't agree more!!! Absolutely brilliant 👏
So true!
YESSS!!!!!!
Funky Divas was (and is to this day) one of the best albums I've ever owned! Their voices meld so beautifully together. They are very, very underrated. Love En Vogue!
It's out on purple vinyl 💜
Same! 🙋🏻♀️
This song demands to be played at max volume....vocals so gooood
There is an alternative version as well with different lyrics and takes of video. Too bad these videos are only 360p. FYM deserves better.
ö
A group where everyone can sing. Don't see that too often, do we?
Love this song.
xmn12380 yes that's what I'm trying tell folks 'one person is not bigger then the group' it shouldn't be
This needs to be played on a loud speaker in every country . Town . City. State in the world right now !!!
Especially right now.

People should listen to this message today! Free your mind and the rest will follow. Be colorblind dont be so shallow.
Jonika Ismail As Snoop said, “We’re all black in the dark”. ✌🏼
Especially the Colorblind part. As many now consider THAT racist.
Underrated song of empowerment
I was 14 when this came out, I just didn't get it. I just saw beautiful women singing very well but that's it. Now that I'm 37, I can appreciate for that and the beautiful massage it they were saying.
Love your comment. I was 8 when this song came out and my older sister used to play it on the old school music channel "The Box" and I loved these beautiful women ever since. Loved this song then and I love it now.
omg the BOX! ahhhh yes!!!
+Hannah Evans I love and agree with your comment, too, and I was also 8 years old when this came out.☺ It's incredible how fitting these lyrics are today.
You got a beautiful massage from the ladies of En Vogue? So jealous!
i totally agree didn't get it then but i do now👍
I remember selecting this on the jukebox at a country bar 20 years ago and shocking the shit out of the bored cowboys hunched over in their beers. LOL (oh and for reference I'm not black, I'm italian, we just all liked it)
FREE YOUR MIND IN 2020🎊🎉🎊🎉🎊🎉🎊🎉🎊🎉🎊🎉🎊
The mix of R'N'B and rock is so good in this. Great hook.
Do your music research. Where do you think Rock came from ?
@@sunrae7680 Black Americans invented 50s Rock N Roll, but then they moved onto R&B, Soul, Funk, Hip-Hop. This song has Hard Rock guitar and drums. It's a different animal.
How many Black people do you know that like Hard Rock? Probably not many as it's "White music" and I don't blame them.
@@sunrae7680Same with R&B and Jazz

They were sooo ahead of their time. Love this song. Edgy, sexy, free, unique, whatever you name it. Love this video!

100% sexy cool.
Not ahead of their time, but OF their time. "Colorblindness" is a very 90s concept that is now considered "problematic" by the woke.
"Why oh why must it be this way?".... Powerful question that we are still asking today....
It makes a hell of a lot of money for to many people.
been asking that for hundreds of years. still no answer
You do know a lot of the questions/ statements in this song were directed at the black community right?
@@jamesodom6456 A couple of the lyrics can. Not all.

I wear tight clothing and high heel shoes
It doesn't mean that I'm a prostitute
I like rap music wear hip hop clothes
That doesn't mean that I'm sellin' dope
Oh please forgive me, for having straight hair
It doesn't mean there's another blood in my heirs
I might date another race or color
Doesn't mean I don't like my strong black brothers
Why oh why must it be this way
Before you can read me you gotta learn how to see me, I said
Free your mind and the rest will follow
Be colour blind, don't be so shallow.
Free your mind and the rest will follow
Be colour blind, don't be so shallow
So I'm a sistah
Buy things with cash
That really doesn't mean that all my credit's bad, oooh
So why dispute me and waste my time
Because you really think the price is high for me
I can't look without being watched, no
You rang my buy before I made up my mind, ow!
Oh now attitude, why even bother
I can't change your mind, you can't change my colour
Why oh why must it be this way?
Before you can read me you gotta learn how to see me, I said
Free your mind and the rest will follow
Be colour blind, don't be so shallow

En Vogue was beautiful and represented a beautiful message. That message has been lost...
Yes, "Colorblindness" is now considered racist by the Woke, PC left.
Besides the obvious incredible voices. The individual FASHION and attitude they had was incredible!
also love your profile picture.
the video is still just as cool as it was back in the day.... that guitar =) the girls are very sexy
kimmyfreak200 living colour was bad ass
Tinky Dinky they were wearing gaultier
They were the best because they were all EQUALLY talented and beautiful. Nobody being "carried."
Love them! Beautiful powerhouse women! Never get sick of this song!!!
This hits so hard. The high notes are crazy!!!
These sisters were ahead of their time. Real musicians to boot!
These are my role models!
Not ahead of their time, but OF their time. "Colorblindness" is a very 90s concept that is now considered "problematic" by the woke.
@@alansands256 I was about to say the same thing haha. Yeah race relations were a lot better in the 90's. We've regressed in the past 10 years for sure due to 'wokeness'. Hell everything was better back then, better music too lol.
@@alansands256 It's because they are taking Color-Blind literally when it's not supposed to be. It's a metaphor. Gen X has always always been about embracing individuality and differences; so we got it. I agree! We have gone in reverse not just 10 years but decades.
I remember being a little girl cat walking in my living room singing this song at the top of lungs. (probably to the detriment of my family members) This song felt so powerful then and I didn’t even grasp the full concept why, all these years later it feels just as powerful. Except now, I fully get it ♥️
Lesbian is the new black
@@nielshansen193 ummm 🤔
Girl, we all did! LOL.
No catwalking for me but I did have a huge crush on these chics when I was a kid
Can't say I ever catwalked but this song will make you move if not you're dead lol
they were brilliant and should of got more credit then they got at that time. density child got so much credit but en vogue were so much better.
i think Destiny's child had a bit more depth in terms of talent though.love them both-great bands
Exactly right! All of the members could sing lead and one did not out shine the other. Their harmony was razor sharp. I like Destiny's child but vocally had nothing on En Vogue.
Tina Kelly I didn't know there was a group called density child lmao 😂 😂😂😂
your density has brought me to you - Mcfly
Destiny's Child has nothing in these ladies. Beyonce doesn't have even half of the vocal ranger if any one of these gals. No hate on DC, but come on now, they cannot harmonize like En Vogue, never could and never will be able to. I hate that the new way to get famous is all look and no substance.
I'm a metalhead and I love this! If only more pop songs were this good...cheers!
This metalhead wholeheartly agrees!
This one too. En Vogue could sing your gas bill to you and still make it appealing.
I love 🎸
Same here. I’m not a fan of pop music. I listen to rock music, but En Vogue I listened to. They had an edge that borders rock. I think that’s why.
We need more love and to learn from one another, we all have qualities that are worthy, we are all human beings.🌎❤️🌎❤️🌎❤️🌎❤️🌎❤️🌎❤️🌎❤️🌎❤️🌎❤️🌎❤️
Agree 100% as well as another track I'd only just discovered days ago. Salt n Pepa- Imagine feat. Sheryl Crow. I didn't know the song existed until it popped up in my feed. The lyrics are even more so poignant.
Ya where are they now? This messege is more relevant today than ever. This song should be released again.
Cheryl Crow kicks ass! Her and Alanis ruled the 90's!
I agree 100 percent
Too bad the brain washed kids say colorblind is racist today!
I'm so glad I lived my teenage at late 90'&early 20'. Great music, no woke-shit, no social media (there were so little anything in Internet)... And coolest fashion ever.
AND WE GOT REAL MTV

it seems these lessons have been lost n forgotten

Took the words right out of my head this Sunday morning
Talking about today!!! People!!! FREE YOUR MIND!!! C’mon. We are all on this earth together!!!
that line is why i came to watch this video....BE COLOUR BLIND...i have been my whole life...but NOW, my 30 year old daughter is telling me i HAVE TO SEE COLOR or i'm a racist lol...fuck the commies for the divisive brainwashing
no one makes music like this anymore.... such a powerful message
90's were the best for music, fucking loved the 90's scene

These women are phenomenal, end of story. No one can sing quite like they did. Such badass, strong, beautiful women. I miss them!
"I might date another race or colour. It doesn't mean I don't like my strong black brothers." Tell em girl!!!
bass reemer NOT AT ALL
It's not for others to define anything. That's the point.
@@Amirlonewolf Not at all. I am not vegetarian but I WILL eat vegetarian dishes. I don't have celiac disease but I also eat gluten free dishes. Some of their food is delicious. YES!!
Awesome answer !
The early 90's were such a golden era for music, you could find something amazing in pretty much any genre, and these fierce ladies were definitely a part of that... RUclips kinda rocks sometimes when my ears get nostalgic.
Love the beat of this song.
If only people would have really listened to the words & live by them.
Yes for sure this jam

That’s the problem people don’t listen to the words or the meaning. This song has a song meaning now more then every in 2020.

I listen to Alternative, Alt rock, Metal, Industrial, industrial rock, classic rock... rock rock rock. But I gotta say this classic kicks total ass. Awesome message in it too.
Indeed, and it is amazing how relevant and timeless this song really is.
Agreed. Because sadly, prejudice itself is timeless, in some form or another =( Love this song, especially its message. I've always liked the video too, but watching it now, as an adult, it kinda feels like some of the message is lost lol What with all the dazzle and of course the stunning beauty of the artists xD

Same with in my taste of music. However always and have loved this group. Was nice hearing their message and powerful women!

Love these ladies
This level of talent is sorely missed today. All of them had great voices (no freakin' auto-tune) Great harmonies, very sexy and beautiful, without being trashy. Maybe they should make a comeback and show the new kids how it's done.
I wish they would make a comeback
no autotune?

ABSOLUTELY! THE BEST! 💜🙌

I can't change your mind. You can't change my color. 😎
Love that! I love this song!!
Man, the 90's were fuckin iconic
to make your point even more dramatic: this song is actually over 20 years old :0
And to make the point even more dramatic still: this song is, at this point in time (Oct. '16), almost 25 years old! Yup!
La la la not listening I'm still in my 20's blah blah blah :D
But either way, thanks for your opinion? And regardless, have a great day👌
I love this song and the video has the strong signature of Mark Romanek.
What good videos this genius produced!
It was a a bit darker originally even with creepy pinhead stuffed animals... but they only showed a few normal taxidermy animals in the final cut.
Damn, I wish I had a large stereo to blast this on right now . . .
One of the most epic hits of the '90s
