Matt Made A Call

  • I got a call from ‪@MattsOffRoadRecovery‬ that he needed a hand with a recovery. It was a truck that had been stuck in a field in some mud. I agreed to come over and help him way before ever seeing any pictures. Once seeing the pictures though I figured it was gonna go pretty quick. Boy was I wrong. This truck had gotten stuck, then left for a few days and the ground froze around the tires. Effectively locking it in place. After awhile we decided to pick each tire individually to break it loose. Worked very well on the front end. The back was extremely stuck. So since Matt had his rollback already in route, we waited for it to arrive so we could use the flatbed to help pry things out. With the rollback on the receiver hitch and Trailmater pulling on the rim we finally got all the wheels loose. However the mud was so froze in the wheels that they wouldn't roll. Luckily with the ground being frozen and cold it slid pretty well so we drug it to the pavement where they loaded it on the rollback to then haul to the dealership for repairs. Thank you everyone for watching and supporting us.

One of the guys in the company got his CJ5 stuck in a mud bog up on a ridge on Ft. Wainwright, AK. He and another guy walked out back to the barracks. This was in Sep/Oct of 79' or 80'. They tried to get it out over the next few weeks. Then it snowed and the temps dropped. It was frozen all winter long until Breakup the next spring. When they were able to get it out, the tires had popped due to the permafrost and the mud freezing. This tidbit of triva was the first thing I thought of when I saw that Dodge frozen to the ground. Funny memory.

Coming from a hot part of the world (far north Australia) I've been watching both of you and Fab Rats (and a few others from around the area and connected with you guys) through your winter and the snow is beautiful; but never in my life has a car frozen to the ground ever been a thing to enter my head. Cars down to the pan in mud and sand plenty of times (including myself on several occasions) but down to the pan and frozen was a whole new experience for me. Absolutely amazing to watch as I thought when you drove up "oh this will be a boring one" and it was the opposite. I've been watching the 3 of you starting with Matt from back when your subscribers where in the couple of thousand (so a couple of years or so) and I've seen some sketchy recoveries but that one takes the cake by far

Check out Casey Ladelle's channel for "Ford, Chevy and Dodge all stuck. Can a Jeep pull them out?" from January 13th, for some very similarly stuck trucks. Also, Robby Layton and Heavy D Sparks, both channels for them rescuing a telehandler stuck in deep snow, they got it done, but was a multi trip process, and a couple videos on each channel, talk about sketchy!
