So is this swing built for launch angle or for line drives. I feel like everyone is drooling over launch angle should be just trying to put the ball and play with a solid swing
The 2021 swing he is clearly easier on the front foot and bracing for impact. This clip is pretty phenomenal compared to how hard he used to be in that front foot.
The swing looks more cohesive and compact now. Before he seemed to get his hands out in front of his body a bit more at impact. It’s hard to compare the clips though because the current swing was at full speed and they slow mo’d the old swing. It’d be nice if they played each clip at the same playback speed so we can actually compare the swings properly.
An angry Bryce Harper is on line 1. Why are you pulling players into your tilt-o-whirl teaching? Bryce Harper generates incredible force against a front locked leg so much so that his back foot (fulcrum) leaves the ground. How does that happen if he's back leg and torso tilted? Dude, enough man with this biomechanically unsound teaching.
This is definitely not what is happening in either swing. Both times his front foot is down before he starts to rotate. His 2021 swing just has a much quieter load and softer front side.
I was kinda thinking the same thing. Maybe I'm not seeing it correctly, but it looks to me like Harpers heel was down before he really started that rotation on either swing 🤷♂️
I don’t know how any of you can see shit. It’s how many frames per second? And as far as I can tell you can’t even make these Shorts play on slow motion.
Foot and heel are DOWN but not WEIGHTED. It's like 80% back leg and 20% front leg in terms of where the weight is when the swing is launched. Hope that makes sense
Simple , bryce had a jj hardy type swing and now hes more of a launch angle swing. Sure bryce was athletic enough to hit homeruns with his push type swing ,but now it looks "EFFORTLESS" as stated in the vid
Crazy when you look at guys like Acuña, Ken Griffey Jr and my favorite example, Ichiro, move their heads all over the place and still be the best, Ken Griffey Jr had a big stride forward, Ichiro literally never had a stop during his swing, and Acuña also goes forward but stays back, everyone's different I guess, more than one way to swing a bat, just gotta find what works.
Harper rolled/snapped over his wrists at impact to get more velocity. This guy is only teaching how to use your hips to turn on an inside pitch because he has no wrist rollover in his swing
He's obviously helped some hitters. Is this approach good for everyone? I'm more focused on turning the wrists over and getting the barrel out sooner. I would love to learn more from this guy. Not that I play hardball anymore but I take it to the cages
He's Aaron Judges hitting coach so i'd say this is probably one of the most optimal ways to swing a bat, might not work for every plate approach but if you want exit velo it'll give you exit velo
So your wrists are rolling on contact? Your top hand should be palm up on contact. Inside pitch requires faster recognition and getting the barrel around. Let the outside pitch travel farther. Swing stays the same. Timing your contact for these different locations is the key to using the same swing with nearly the same power in every location. Keeping your top hand elbow tight is one way to think about it. Extension will equal less power. Science.
@@deadpanfish no, my wrists are already turned over with the barrel out in front. And the pitcher ducking at the line drive that just whizzed by his head wondering why he can't strike me out. Here's an interesting technique. ruclips.net/user/shortsvO2sV8NplK8?feature=share
Sorry bud, the rear leg is creating torque to rotate the trunk to twist the body to the end of the the arms like a whip long before the bat barrel begins to come around NOT at the same time of the leg twist as you demonstrate! The biggest difference between the two Bryce Harper swings are the speed at which you present them to the viewers.
one legged launch is the main reason this guy will never be taken seriously... otherwise the other part of his description of the bat path is valid to a point.
That technique gets you bat speed. You can get the bat where you need it in the swing quicker than trying to simply swing. If that sounds right? The front foot plant followed by the bat flip, turn hips and launch off the back leg. The swing is done by the time your arms are parallel to the plate basically. Thats why so often you see players hit home runs and it just looks like a flick of the bat, effortlessly. Really doesn't require a powerful swing if you use that quick technique. I love these clips bc it makes sense of so many things that I never knew before he explained that flip technique
Yea his hands aren’t going before his foot is down it’s not a one leg launch. The move he’s talking about isn’t bad to practice but there is way more than that to a swing.
Actually your wrong what the hitter is doing is getting the job of the bat to the ball and snapping his wrists and extending if you do what this guy is talking about your going to open up and either pop up, ground out or just miss the ball, don’t just say things because most of the time your wrong
Not even close , there’s no way blowing out the front shoulder as you say in these swings your referring too . Even Judges , the difference is you pull your head out and completely drop and drag …. Harper stays closed and extends his hands
This is simply not explained well. I think you overall have a good channel but this video doesn’t do you justice. No hitter initiates his swing with one leg in the air which is how your explanation comes off. You essentially are speaking about staying back on the ball and allowing the hips to open up as opposed to lunging at it and shifting weight forward which in turn impedes hip rotation. Otherwise a good channel.
Every video claiming physics without explaining the physics. Shit is annoying. I feel like you're onto something but just making claims without* the breakdown gives off snake oil vibes. Direction of travel, radial peaks, loading foundations, kinetic chain, energy transfer.
Well to begin with the physics involves motion and kinetic energy. The unweighting of the back leg allows for the full force to continue forward until moment of impact. He doesn’t explain that or even talk about it but that’s what happens.
@@TheRoadLessChosen I agree with you, but that is not new information, and pretty much known by everyone who's invested any time in learning how to generate hitting power. But, he's attempting to display new concepts.
"But if I don't have that big old counterweight hanging off the front of me, can I still use it for extra power?" "Sure, son. You'll get there if you practice."
He was out in front and had hands extended because he took a change up that broke low and away out of the park. That wasn’t his typical swing when he got a fast ball in where he likes it and where the pitch was thrown in the 2021 video
This guy has totally switched the way his hands move. Some videos he’s saying the hands move a certain way and this video he says the hands turn a different way. He’s just making it up as he goes.
For all of y'all who don't know baseball this guy is a hack or a troll lol. He literally says some guys open up before the ball is in and Harper literally does that in the next frame(back to the start of video) 🤣
Head moving isn't nearly as much of an issue as people seem to think. Moving down and forward is pretty normal. Turning around is more of a problem, but really only because it's indicative of rolling over or pulling the swing. Watch Mookie Betts or Jose Altuve. They have a huge forward and down head move.
The difference isn’t a swing change, it’s a mechanical adjustment. This first swing is just bad Bc his front side is already open on his stride but now he just stays connected better, and explodes to the ball better, not doing what this guy is saying.
He's not accurately showing how high level hitters use the front leg. It's the same way a pitcher uses their front leg. Firm front leg is the brakes that start energy transfer all the way to the hands. Basically using your entire body as a whip.
Lots of baseball and golf are similar when it comes to legs and torso movement hands are the only difference in positions. If you spend enough time watching you will understand the universal principles then get a little better golf swing
That is absolutely not the movement Bryce made. He is not dropping his shoulder and twisting his wrist. He is throwing his hands at the ball and making a smooth swing. Maybe there is a reason you never see this guy…you know…actually hitting a full speed ball.
@@ERX825 Coaches are coaches for a reason, judges swing has been improving consistently since he started working with him and this season his swing has become something insane. It'd be pretty dumb to say the coach did nothing and i doubt Judge would be paying him if he wasn't doing anything.
