  • In 2024 we saw two enormous open-world RPGs arrive in the hopes of eating up heaps of your time. But in terms of Dragon's Dogma 2 vs Rise of the Ronin, which one should you invest in first, if at all?
Just when you thought the pipeline for massive open-world RPGs was slowing down following the launch of Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth and Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth in February, March comes along with two equally as big time-sinks in Dragon’s Dogma 2 and Rise of the Ronin. Initially, these two titles look to share a lot of similarities, but the truth is that they also share an incredible number of differences that may sway your decision about which one you should play first.

Currently playing Rise of the Ronin, and having a really good time. I feel like the game just wasn’t marketed well, and received premature bad reviews from content creators. There’s actually a lot of depth to the game with a surprising story. If I had to describe gameplay in a few words I’d say Ghost of Tsushima, and Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice had a baby. That baby of course has its own personality though. If you like both of those games, I do not see any reason why you would not like this one. It’s a Soulsborne game with the option of difficulty levels. Some might say that simply have difficulty levels excludes it from being Soulsborne, but I disagree because many other aspects of the game fit the genre. The option to change the difficulty is completely up to the player. The challenge is certainly there if you want it. I was excited to play the game, and I’m equally as excited to play dragons dogma 2 after spending some time with Rise of the Ronin. I think overall March was a good month for gamers. Keep on keeping on, and game on until it’s game over.

Ronin looks more my thing because of the swordplay and world but ive put about 4 hours into dragons dogma 2 and i cant get into it. Im trying hard to like it because of the massive price but its bow mechanics and tedious unfamiliar combat having to sleep or camp to save or refil health im irritated already.

I'm about 23 hours in and I hated it at first, starting playing as a archer and didn't like it, changed to spearhand and it got better. I don't think the game is a 9 or 10 though. I'm having decent fun but it can be frustrating.

Exactly what i felt at start. I thought i wasted money pre ordering this. No lock on like souls types.. Then thought to play out and it's fun after leveling up. Best tip is to switch your L1 and R1 buttons. Tell me more of your issues, I'll try and help.

@@timholloway8821the dd2 developers have made it so unbalanced. I made a babe and play with no gear with all hud off with just my and enemy health on and it's hard enough

I prefer rise of the Ronin over dragon's Dogma. I have both, beat DD2 at like 50hrs which half of it was walking from one region to the next. Both games have decent gameplay but I prefer the fast-paced Rise of the Ronin gameplay more.
Not to mention I want as much content as possible out of my $70. And DD2 is the lesser of the two when it comes to content. 20 overall main story missions and a hand full of uninspired side quests ain't enough for the price tag.
Meanwhile rise of ronin give nearly triple the content for the same price with story that's actual there. The overall customization is better when it comes to personalizing your appearance.

Yeah, it’s odd to me too haha. It’s like some people don’t have taste. I played DD1 and love fantasy so obviously was gonna get 2.
I don’t care rise of ronin is out lol. And I know AC red will fill my samurai / ninja vibe better for me once it’s out.
But some people don’t have vibes/gaming history and preferences that help them decide intuitively.
