My beautiful Elvis, generous soul, always my favorite
Here for Elvis. Outstanding performance from the Artist of the Century
Elvis is the most comfortable singing live on stage the records the movies there are so far the real Elvis is alive. I want to request 1970s concert in Vegas. You will not be disappointed the best of the best of Elvis for real my brother
Nice reaction, respect for Elvis and his lovely daughter. Elvis' voice and stage presence in incomparable. Looking forward to more.👍❤️❤️
Elvis was so amazing at interpreting and producing songs, he would have needed to be a genius to write too.. he left that to the songwriters. Why people criticise him for that is ridiculous. Like criticising an actor for not writing his own lines...
He put everything into that performance
MLK would love this tune by Elvis, the song Elvis paid tribute to him with.
I grew up watching and listening to Elvis (my parents were huge fans), but I never saw this performance and knew the backstory until very recently. I now consider it not only Elvis' best performance (in a career that had many memorable highlights), but one of the top 5 greatest soul& gospel performances ever. You can tell he attended black churches during his youth and absorbed the sheer power of their music.
Elvis Suspicious Minds live Las Vegas 1970
After MLK and RFK were assassinated Elvis needed to speak on it and remembered something his mama once told him. If they don't listen when you speak then sing it. They will listen then. This performance is a Masterclass in how it's supposed to be done. The vocal, the raw emotion, the stage presence. This is how it's done. LONG LIVE THE KING! 🤟
Thx for mentioning Kennedy -- hardly anyone does
Elvis will always be the GOAT for me. No one reaches your heart through music like this guy does.
Watch listen to Elvis Elvis Trilogy he sings "DIXIELAND " & I cry every single time. Elvis sings with real passion.... His greatest quality besides his Lips, his eyes, his Elvis hair, his hips, and for sure his BEAUTIFUL SMILE AND VOICE......IT IS ELVIS !!!
This performance could possibly be the greatest single stage song ever!
This was actually written specific for him because he wanted to do something meaningful to end his 1968 Christmas special and they wanted him to do a Christmas song and he put his foot down and said no and then this is what his friend wrote for him, knowing how decimated Elvis was over the assassination of MLK not that long before and not that far away from his home. After that incredible mic drop moment at the end, he went backstage and curled up in a ball and cried for hours. You can see how emotionally drained he was.
He was an incredible performer but that boy can flat-out sing too. Check out him doing bridge over troubled water from the 1970s show. It's mind-blowing and don't forget he does his own arrangement to and that huge sprawling band that he has from 1969 onward including some amazing backing vocalists, was tight together and they had fun together and they were top-notch. They were really really good.
It also encompassed Robert Kennedy's assassination & everything going on @ time; producer-director Steve Binder & Elvis had a long discussion about all of this & Binder asked Walter Earl Brown to compose something referencing the times & Elvis' thoughts, basing it loosely on King's speech. The red tie was for the blood shed in Vietnam.
It was written on the spot specially for him to show the world what HE FELT. PLEASE SEE THE NEW MOVIE "ELVIS".
After singing this he went backstage and wept.
This song was written for him because he loved and respected Martin Luther King, Jr.
Elvis understood poverty, and that feeling never left him. 👍
"American Trilogy" .. live Hawaii
It was written for him.
Loved your reaction!
Great song and performance! Great reaction!
Thanks for helping keeping Elvis alive❤🙏🏻
It’s shameful that this isn’t his most famous performance. So great.
Elvis NEVER stole credit for song he did. If you've heard he did, you heard it from an uniformed source that just repeated what they had heard through another uniformed source. He did a lot covers of other's songs and many times because his voice and style was so good that HIS version would stand out over the originals. But the original song writers always received the credit AND royalties, THAT was due to Elvis's great voice and delivery. He also Recorded MANY songs that were written by songwriters and sent to him in hopes that he would record them, of which THEY always received their due credit, and royalties.
Besides the Charlotte Observer 56 interview, and Louie Robinson's "The truth about that Elvis Presley rumor." (Jet Magazine. August 1957) interview, Elvis gave recognition in the monologue of the gospel production of the 68 special. ruclips.net/video/IkNqlso8CAM/видео.html. "Rock and roll came from gospel and Rythm and Blues."
And people don’t take into consideration that that’s how it was back then also especially the 50s. It wasn’t abnormal to record then ask for permission later lol. But NEVER was it normal to release song without paying or securing the publishing.
@@Myboymyboy1212 RIGHT, Even in the 50s if you recorded and released a song for sales you HAD to get permission and a signed deal with the songwriter or whoever owned the song. and Elvis ALWAYS did so.
All you have to do is look at the 45s that always had the writer of the music. Hound Dog was written by Mama Mae Thornton . The Elvis movie recognizes Mama Mae Thornton as the original singer of “Hound Dog”. Actor and comedian Steve Allen tried to mock Elvis and Hound Dog but it just made Elvis more popular. Elvis learned that there are vicious people who wanted to hurt him. Elvis never stole other people’s songs. He sang them but he didn’t put his name as the writer of the song.
@@nancy9891 No,, Hound Dog was not written by Mama Thorton, It was written by 2 white guys, Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller.. Mama Thorton was the first to record their song. and she had a hit with it. Then as we know later Elvis recorded it. as a result, Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller made tons of money off of Elvis's recording.
What a song for you to start your Elvis reviews with!? At 13 years old, I sure didn’t understand the importance of his performance. I grew up on his movies. It wasn’t until years later that I totally felt the meaning behind this song.
You just witnessed the best performance ever recorded!

Rest in peace Lisa Marie. TX. Keep on rocking my friend.
Thank you sir. You have a good soul. TX.
Elvis didn't write it but it was written for him, because of his fillings about MLK and Kennedy's assassination. Only ELVIS could brought so much emotions trough the song. The KING, one and only ♥
Essa music é um grito de liberdade e uma homenagem a martin luthef king. Amo essa letra. Um abraço aqui do Brazil.
Keep up the good work!!!!
More Elvis, In The Ghetto live in Las Vegas 1970.
If you hear of a single life, you could be at the church coming out of him I don’t know if you know, but he starts off in the gospel southern Baptist, back in high school
Mac Davis wrote this song for Elvis. When he opened in Vegas it was a star studded affair, for sure! He thanked Mac who was their for this #1 hit and tribute. Very powerful, the king forever! Thank you for your reactions to him. ❤
You're very welcome & thank you for this information about the song
Please do her music! All 3 albums are amazing, RIP
Lights Out is an amazing song by Lisa Marie Presley! Check out the video of it!!
Only 12 years after Elvis '56, 9 years until death. A shooting star of incredible magnitude.

Amazing!!! 👏👏👏
Very nice reaction. Please react to In the Ghetto live in Las Vegas 1970 by Elvis. Phenomenal voice and talent. Thank you.
This song was written for him to reflect what he actually cared about.
Pls know that this also encompassed Robert Kennedy's assassination & everything going on @ time; producer-director Steve Binder & Elvis had a long discussion about all of this & Binder asked Walter Earl Brown to compose something referencing the times & Elvis' thoughts, basing it loosely on King's speech. The movie is great! You will really enjoy it!
Genuine reaction. Thank you. 68 Comeback Special in black leather sitting down Heartbreak Hotel/Lawdy Miss Clawdy, 1970 Live in Vegas Make the World Go Away, Suspicious Minds
Alot of your comments told you & they're correct that Elvis got a lot of push back not to close his special with this song. Racial tensions were high. But Elvis told them that a Reverend once told him THAT WHICH IS TO DANGEROUS TO SAY ... SING!
Elvis brought me here, your great reaction had me sub.. can wait to watch your future reactions
This song was written for Elvis to sing to pay tribute to MLK. Elvis put so much emotion into this song that after he left the stage he wept. This was the closing number from his 1968 Come Back TV Special. He had done an entire concert and was tired, but he changed into this suit and sang his heart out. When you see the movie you will find out the story behind the concert and this song.
It also was for Robert Kennedy's assassination & everything going on @ time; producer-director Steve Binder & Elvis had a long discussion about all of this & Binder asked Walter Earl Brown to compose something referencing the times & Elvis' thoughts, basing it loosely on King's speech. The red tie was for the blood shed in Vietnam.
@@carolhayar3037 , facts!❤
@@texasgirl6000 Thx! So many people focus on King exclusively, not even knowing what it's really all about, or the truth about the crying thing; there's so much information about Elvis' life it borders on criminal.
Thank you. One of the most moving and important messages that this world needs
I suggest learning more about Elvis before you dive into the Beatles. John Lennon famously said “Without Elvis, there would be no Beatles”. I think the word you are looking for is soul. Wonderful reaction.
This is not just a song. It`s a prayer! Elvis` heartfelt prayer.
I love your reaction. I had goosebumps because it really was your first time listening to this beautiful, meaningful, and powerful Elvis song.
I believe that if the US had an anthem like that, many things would be different, not just in America but also in the world.
Through the years, I`ve come across many quotes from many different people.
In my opinion, the most powerful and beautiful quotes are those from Martin Luther King.
THANK YOU for this respectful reaction, and for remembering Lisa Marie.
I truly hope she finally is at peace.
Snowy Winter greetings from Slovenia.
Well said. It’s a prayer 🙏
yeah, a man doesn't sing with such passion if they don't believe it

MLK assassination...
Subscribed !!! That was so well done 👍 there’s a backstory behind this song that you may have read about. NBC executives did not want Elvis doing this song due to the nature of race riots.
Only one NBC executive Steve Bender got it pushed through. NBC sponsors were livid as well. This song was written specifically for Elvis and specifically for this moment. Elvis wanted a message song since he never made public comments on any social issues.
But due to the immense power of this song, there is no question in anyone’s mind what Elvis was saying -- he was soothing the country, after a decade of very famous assassinations and let’s not forget the Vietnam War.
MLK was the main influence of course, but Elvis was also hurt by the assassination of Robert Kennedy. Malcolm X, MLK. JFK and Robert Kennedy were all supporters and or leaders of the civil rights movement and all were assassinated within a few years of each other. Elvis was a very very brave man. No other entertainer dared to do what Elvis did there with that song in that decade.
PLEASE DO ELVIS AND THE BLACK COMMUNITY
Subscibed, Elvis is my favorite artist and will always be. Thank you great reaction.
Jarryl, did you know that Elvis was naturally light blond and dyed his hair dark all his life?
Yea I knew that, I was always into that kind of information.
The movie will explain a little backstory on this song. The timing of RFK being assassinated and the filming of the show is off by a week or two in the movie but it still shows you how and why this song was written for Elvis.
"In The Ghetto" by Elvis would be a great follow up to this outstanding tune. PS: Elvis would have been Michael Jackson's father-in-law had he lived. 🙂
Oh, see the movie. It encapsulates his life and music.
There’s a Lisa Marie/Elvis duet. Where No One Stands Alone. It’s amazing.
I always get goosebumps from this song. Subscribed ❤
One of my top 5 fave Elvis songs and Elvis' greatest vocal.
listen to in the ghetto, studio or live version or both.
… There are singers who are... just mediocre, then those who are good, and then the singers who are very good! ...And then there's ELVIS, the FIRST and BEST singer of all time!! ... A millennium singer for ETERNITY and still UNREACHABLE today!! … ✨💎✨🕺🏻🕯
New sub here! 😁 This is such a beautiful tribute to MLK! He did this a few months after MLK was killed! He made it the last song of a Christmas special ...he did as a come back. They didnt want him to do this song on a Christmas show but Elvis did it anyway! Not to mention there was a lot of racial tension due to MLK being killed! Elvis did what he wanted to do...❤ Check out "Elvis and the Black Community" documentary......it will give you a lot of insight on what kind of person he was. Where he grew up....the all black church he attended & sang in the choir... during segregation...etc

Listen to tomorrow is a long time
Elvis was suppose to only sing Christmas songs. The Cornel told Elvis he could not sing a message song. He had a song writer write this song due to MLK’s assassination. Elvis just did it and the Cornel was not happy. The movie Elvis addresses this.

Peace and Love from Florida
Excellent commentary! I hope you continue your journey in getting to know the versatility of The King's voice with various genres of music.
Awesome Awesome reaction my man!! New fan!! 🤜🤛💯💯🔥🔥🎼🎤🎙
Also Subscribed! ELVIS sang and loved his Gospel Music more than anything. Before the tension of going on stage, he and his musicians would gather close, and sing. And after the concerts were over, ELVIS would release his nervous energy by gathering around the piano, sometimes for hours singing Gospel. With all the solemn news of his only daughter's tragic demise, a Gospel song would've made ELVIS happy, had he been here in body. From 1972, Live, "How Great Thou Art", a song he had to learn from others, but soon became one of his favorite songs. I appreciate your discourse and dialogue. We should all look forward and enjoy the days to come! From the State of Minnesota's biggest ELVIS fan, THANK YOU!
O.k., my suggestions for a first jump into the Elvis rabbit hole: "trying to get to you" and "heartbreak hotel" (both from the 68 comeback special, sitdown session), "Suspicious minds", "polk salad annie", "you've lost that loving feeling", "bridge over troubled water", "in the ghetto" and "love me tender" (all from the 1970 live in Las Vegas footage), ""how great thou art", "proud mary" and "never been to spain" from the 1972 Elvis on tour footage , "What now my love", "You gave me a mountain", "steamroller blues", "fever", "my way" and "american trilogy" (from the 1973 aloha in hawaii live concert) and "unchained melody" and "hurt" from the 1977 cbs live concerts. I would start the journey with one of those, because they are all live stuff with video footage, which in my opinion is the best way to explore Elvis. In the 60s during his film career he did no live sessions and in the earlier recordings of the late 50s are impressing but you hear more girls yelling than Elvis singing...🤣
Thank you for your amazing reaction
Can you please react to

If you haven't seen the entire 1968 Comeback Special you should watch it. Also Elvis satellite concert "Aloha From Hawaii". Both are must see.
One of the best and most important recordings ever made, everyone else offered this song refused to perform it fearing it would hurt their career somehow but Elvis knew this song had to be recorded and made public. He was deeply disturbed by all the assassinations in the 60's - both president John F Kennedy, his brother Robert Kennedy and finally Dr. Martin Luther King - and this song title fit Kings "I have a Dream" Speech as well, RIP to all the above including Elvis who we miss soo much.
Wrong.. No other artist turned the song down, where would you hear such nonsense? this song was not offered to any other artist, it was written especially for Elvis for the Elvis TV special in 1968.
In the ghetto was the song turned down
Correct, It was Especially Written For Elvis By Earl Brown to Close the 68 Comeback Special. Elvis Loved Dr King and his "I Have A Dream" Speech and Shared his Feelings with the Writer.
1968 was a Turbulent time in America, there were riots, the Assasination's of MLK and RFK, The Civil Rights Movement and the Vietnam War and tensions were high. Elvis wanted to Close the Show with a Message that would bring Unity.
In The Ghetto was the Song that No One Would Sing Until Elvis Heard it and Wanted to Record it.

This was my first time sitting in with you today, thank you for letting me do that! What a great reaction! This was not only written for Martin Luther King it was also written for Bobby Kennedy who was also assassinated that year! No he didn't write it, but you can tell how much he felt it, it was as if they were his own thoughts that someone else put to paper before he got around to it! Again, thank you for sharing yourself with all of us and keep on listening to great music of the past! Good luck with your channel! I subscribed and gave you a great big like while I was here today! Thank you for mentioning Kennedy - hardly anyone does, focusing on King, also forgetting Vietnam, for which the red tie signifying the blood shed.

In the Ghetto is so emotional 😭
You mess with the fro, you got to go. Check out him on Ed Sullivan doing Peace in the Valley. Yeah. Peace
This was Elvis’ tribute to Martin Luther King when he was assassinated. He was very upset about this senseless act, & asked one of his songwriters to write this song for him, using the I Have A Dream sentiment. He only sang this song twice, both times in his 68 Comeback Special, & then he never sang it again.
Elvis never wrote any of his songs, but then neither did Bing Crosby, Nat King Cole,Tom Jones, Andy Williams, Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra and the list goes on. Elvis spoke with his music director, Walter Earl Brown about writing a song that would be "appropriate" to close out his special. His manager, Tom Parker was adamant that Elvis close his show with a Christmas song. Elvis refused. MLK was assassinated in late April, Robert Kennedy was assassinated in early June and this TV special finished filming in mid June and was to air December 7th. The mood of the nation was horrible! Anti war riots and demonstrations in every major city, civil rights demonstrations in every city, President Johnson came out and said he would not seek re-election, Goner George Wallace suffered an attempted assassination that left him paralyzed from the waist down. In 1968 it seemed like our country was coming apart at the seams! This was the closest Elvis ever came to making a political statement and it was one of peace!
By the way, I am 72 years old now and lived through that tumultuous period and I remember well the impact that this song had on people.
React to Americsn Trilogy...Elvis was snd still aluve
There is a lot of contenders and pretenders. There is only one KING. You just heard him. Canada

While this performance is strong in your mind you need to react to Celine Dion's duet with Elvis. Its amazing the way they edited it using this footage. It looked so good! They chose this song because it was released in 1968 the year Celine was born. RIP Lisa-Marie :(
