Hope ya'll enjoyed this lesson and get practicing! NOTE: This doesn't cover triplets. Let me know if you want a lesson for independence within triplets, too!
Amazing video - you're one of the best drum educators I've found on RUclips. You jump straight in without a lot of talking, show clearly how to play the beat, show the notation on the screen as you play AND offer the download in the comments. Can't think of how it could be any better. Thank you so much.
By far the best presentaion of the transcripts going along your playing on RUclips. It was really easy for me to follow every single note and change in each bar. Awesome work. Subscribed.
That's fantastic to hear! It's really great to work on, over and over, with different ostinatos etc :) I'm not 100% sure yet, in regards to your question, haha!
Could you possibly post the full tabs for the second ostinato with the same singles, doubles, triples and quads? I’ve worked through your first ostinato non-stop, but am not quite at the level to play the second without tabs - I’ve been playing the end of your video on half speed trying to figure out what you’re doing. Thank you so much for these videos, you’re an incredible player!
Hello, Joe! Nice job figuring parts of it out, that's awesome! I created some quick tabs for you. Hope these work for ya! www.dropbox.com/s/rf6ejjc85szadcx/Ostinato%202%20with%20kick%20permutations%20by%20maxadrums.pdf?dl=0 Keep pushing hard!
@@maxadrums Wow, thanks so much for taking the time to create some quick tabs. The Dropbox link didn't work unfortunately. Is there another way to share it from Dropbox?
@@joewilliams8833 Hello! I've tested now on 3 computers and had 2 other people test it as well, the link work for all of them, maybe try in a different browser?
Max, you are an excellent teacher. I am really enjoying your instructional videos. Your control and technique is amazing. Please keep the vids coming. I’m glad you enjoyed my overly embellished Smoke on the Water. I just find playing the sixteenth notes with my feet more fun and musically interesting than Ian’s original version. Peace brother! Drum on!
Nothing warms my heart more than hearing such kind words, thank you very much, Chris! Teaching will eventually be the main focus of the channel, excited to do it way more frequently very soon as the studio finishes. :) Appreciate the kind words!
Maximiliam Andersson Absolutely. You deserve the high praise. I wish I could help you expedite finishing your studio. I have built three studios in my lifetime and the one I am in now is my best yet as far as sound dampening and acoustics. I was glad to hear you were putting bass traps in. Super important. The only thing regrettable about my studio is its size and low ceilings. Other than that it’s pretty sweet. I found using acoustic ceiling tiles and acoustic foam acted as comparable replacements for acoustic paneling and it ended up being fairly affordable. But I am in the states so I’m not sure how fluctuating prices are in Scandinavia. Please, let’s keep corresponding. Peace bro!
That's very cool, nice! I studied acoustics related to studio building and other music production situations about 10 years ago at uni, a lot of things have either slipped my mind or are just a bit vague. But I remember the general important things, hehe. Unfortunately the small size's my problem as well, but I wasn't allowed to put a bigger building than this on my property, so I'd rather have what I now built than nothing/wait another x amount of years to try again. So I don't have the space to build panels, resonators and even diffusion deep enough to combat all the problems in the low's. It's also far from optimal to run both the "control room" and "live room" in the same room, haha.. So I have to compromise quite a bit. But we'll see, I ran measurements before and will run measurements after to see how things have changed :-) Also, I'm holding back on the backwall diffusor for now, I'm picky and need the right design, haha!
Maximiliam Andersson I’m sure it will sound amazing, especially if you went to school to learn all of the details. I shot from the hip and mine turned out pretty good.
I like your explanation and in general your efforts to spread knowledge about the language of music in this fashion. I was just happy to hear you mention him among others as a predecessor with this system, as I have practiced and learned much from Mr. Greb.
Well played and it is a great system, however you also have to mention Gary Chaffee I believe he was the first to introduce this in his book 'Time Functioning patterns'!
Thanks, Bhavesh! There are a ton of educators whom I didn't mention, and I'm actually not sure of the origin! I would assume it's been around since before the 90's. It's such a logical and simple system that it has to! But then again - the simple explanations are the hard one to think of.. hehe.
Haha, would you mind to elaborate? For this specific video, I feel it all turned out a bit flat now that I look at it, but I find that to be the opposite from the standard of my videos.. What is it that you're noticing? I would LOVE to get feedback and take it into consideration so that it could all improve :)
Hope ya'll enjoyed this lesson and get practicing!

Cool. Do you use a double bass drum pedal?
I think he does.
sure!
@@MetalDrumCovers-xs8ts He does not (well, did not, at the time of recording this video)

Awesome! I'll make sure to do it in the not too distant future :) glad to hear it helped!
Thank you much. Awesome exercise. Tricky for me, for now
great system! can do it for every limb
Indeed! As I mentioned in the info-section, if you can memorize it, it's easy to apply to any limb, and try to work through any ostinato with it!
Good exercise
Glad you enjoyed it! (Or otherwise, glad you agree!)
Thanks
You're welcome!
This exercise is actually really useful for me.
By the way, when are you gonna get around to that cover of Starmachine 2000? I really want to hear it.
That's fantastic to hear! It's really great to work on, over and over, with different ostinatos etc :)
I'm not 100% sure yet, in regards to your question, haha!

Benny Greb!!! Great lesson/exercise to rehearse.
Yes, Benny Greb's one of many who've written books in regards to this system!

I was so eased out in the first ostinato example then I saw your second and got my ass handed back to me :|
Haha! That's the beauty of it!
