You can split your right hand from your right foot and have them both operating independently more easily than you thought, thanks to some simple patterns that will also make 16th grooves easy.
The key here is patient, slow, precise practice. If you do that consistently - every day - you’ll make a whole bunch of progress. Get that right foot freed up from your hands, and deepen your coordination! Practice these exercises and find other creative variations, too. These are super versatile.

Stephen when I click this link I get an error message saying the page "doesn't exist"?
Me too😕
No download page?
Still gives a 404 error
No access to previous PDFs either
I'd like to see the pdf too. That is one thing a lot of these videos are missing and it never really clicks for me until I can see it on paper too.
Man, limbs independence is a real pain in ass to learn. Amazing exercises, simple and measured explanation. I'm shocked that you've got few viewers - this channel deserves much more. Looking forward for more content!
@@rosa8720 everything new takes time to learn - everyone struggle at some point. To get along, all you have to do is to follow 2 rules: playing regularly and mindfully. Stephen shows how to play mindfully and he keeps reminding about regularity - that's why I like this channel and God bless I found it as a newbie.
I was so confused because I started drumming about 6-7 months ago and realized that a lot of songs I wanted to play because I liked had a bass kick in between the hihat and I didn’t know how to do it and I just figured out a month ago that it’s called limb independence so I’ve been practicing and now I can play the groove to shout at the devil
I can only imagine how great it feels to free up your foot to where you're not really thinking about it anymore.
I only play "We will rock you," so I'll be leaving my hand and foot locked together.
You need to expand
Ok? U should broaden your horizons though. Queen has other songs.
I think bro was making a joke
(after one year) i heard rumors that there are even other bands...
The best drumming channel on RUclips. Many thanks for your resources.
I hope that you are aware of the amount of gratitude that your videos inspire.. And I hope that viewers are aware of the value that they are being offered.. This type of platform is the future and you are way ahead of the game.. You are also a comfortable companion in the world we love so much.. Thank you Stephen
Stephen another clear, concise, informational video , excellent thanks heaps.
I love the fact you present things in an understandable way for ppl like me who have almost no music education aside from what I've learned on my own
Great lesson Stephen. For me it is the perfect level of complexity to start, with the right level of progression to not over complicate and overwhelm the student. It also produces very fast progress. Thank you!
you're my kind of people . i hear your passion for helping others and your humility and it shines bright. i 46 years old and you helped me in so many different ways besides the lesson @ hand. thank you Stephen!
Man, you’re so underrated. Love your content brother. Blessings.
I thank you so much and cannot appreciate you enough Stephen, you are so explicit in everything you say, that we can come to terms in the way you come across to us. Been in the music business mainly playing guitars and vocals all my life, and here's me during the lockdown 18 months ago now started playing drums. I'm getting on very well dare I say it myself as I have a pretty much natural ear for timing pitch eat...here's a very happy subscribed to you 68 yr old appreciative guy, thanks Stephen :-)
Great! Heard it all before, but never laid out this nicely! Can't wait to get started.
I am currently broke, but I feel like I owe you a fortune with these free PDf's, and this video, it's priceless lessons.
i needed this video, thank you.
really great useful lesson ,not complicated but extremely practical, its nice to be able to integrate this into my playing ,thanks again,
wow this is so helpful!!! I've been struggling with separating both of my feet from my hands and this is amazing. Thinking of multiple things at once is definitely difficult!
Thanks so much! I am stuck at my kick following my 16 on the ride instead of playing 8, this is the type of video I needed. You're awesome!
Just I had started watching your videos this week but I become you fan :-)
Great video man. I'll definitely be adding this to my practice routine soon.
Really appreciate this lesson. I'm studying Brazilian music, mainly Samba and Bossa Nova and working with the right hand being independent of the right foot is crucial. However, more than that, adding the snare mainly on the counter tempo + having independent right hand and foot is what I find most difficult. Would you post something about having both hands and both feet independent?
Thanks for all your valuable content! 😊
Very nice lesson, I'm gonna try improve my independence now
great lesson.. i love to practice it!!
Brilliant Stephen. Thanks for this.
Thanks for the pdf. Subscribed from Spain. Thanks so much
Excellent... Greatly appreciated.
Thanks for this video. This is the point I am at. My grand daughter is trying to learn a song and I think this will, really help, her put on trying to get that song down.
ok! all signed up and ready to go! I've been watching your stuff for a while now and thought it was time to do the whole signup for mail stuff! Thanks for what you do, very helpful stuff :)
Great video Steve!! So helpful for a 55 year old beginner!
Great stuff. Thanks so much for the information.
This is such a great channel man!........been playing for years but wish I had of had this was when I was I kid! Keep doing what your doing mister!
i know right!!!!
Great teacher. Thanks so much. God bless you.
These videos are helping me lots. 👌🏻
This was great practice, thank you for including the sheet music
I can't stop my foot from following my hand on the second exercise. The first one is easy to me. This is so frustrating but thank you. I'll keep practicing. Can't wait for more content. Subscribed!
sooo did you get any better in the meantime :D?
Thank you so much this has helped me in my music class at school🙏🙏🙏
It is a very tricky technique but this video helps a lot! Thank you!
Dear Stephen
Thank you 😊
From Minnesota up north 🥁
I like your videos man, very uplifting and motivating!! Subscribed!!!
exercise 1 i passed with a bit of practice, exercise 2 is taking a lot more practice so it must be working!! thank you so much, incredibly helpful
update: after two weeks I have exercise 2 nailed
What helped you get Exercise 2?
Excellent video !!!
These are all excellent exercises. Another way to flip things around is to do it all with a left-hand ride, which not only adds to your independence, but it frees you from having to cross your hands to play the hi hat.
Awesome instructions!!!! 🙌🏻
Super helpful
Brilliant thanks
Me encanta como lo explicas todo. Muy Bueno. Muchos besos desde España
Man do I need this !!!!! Thx.
i completely agree with most of the comments on the video, thank you!!!!!
Thank you. I couldn't find the download link. I love this video...
great video
Very helpful video! I thought I was the only one with the right hand and leg playing together, I guess it’s a common thing.
Killer exercises!
2:15 1a, eights on ride 1/16 on kick
I really enjoy this lesson.very useful for beginners like me ;)
Limb independence is a really difficult thing when you start to learn. I went through a huge Djent phase, and learning a bunch of patterns and songs from that style forced me to gain independence
I love paradiddles. I like to proactive them on a wide variety of drums. If you play with them you can come up with some really good sounding beats by just using a paradiddle.
You're the best.
I've been teaching myself by ear for the past few years and it's been great, but I feel like I am starting to repeat myself in terms of the patterns I come up with. This was a really helpful guide to help me dig deeper into what I am doing. Thankyou!
U r great man thank u
Pretty useful thank's
Thank you.
Oh man your bass drum sounds sweet!
I stopped playing the drums for 7 years came back to it and I now suck. I have been trying to regain my independence back following 16th with my foot and quarter with my right hand is easy but 16th and 8ths hard. I seem to find everything the opposite in terms of what should be easier/harder. Nothing to do but keep at it and hopefully muscle memory will come back. Great vid thanks for the exercises
Thank you. I like that you never make me feel dumb for struggling with this at even the easiest levels, since I am a beginner-beginner. I keep getting frustrated trying to play Fat Bottomed Girls (not THAT fill, just the basic beat) because Roger Taylor is “just” playing 8th notes on the ride, and a backbeat on the snare. Easy, right? But there is a syncopated kick drum beat and I can NOT keep my right hand going on the simple rhythm when I play it, it follows the stupid bass drum pattern. 😭 Hoping this helps! Thanks for all your hard work putting together these videos for noobs like me!
25 seconds into this and that's exactly why I'm here.
Thank you for the pdf download. I'm getting a lot out of your lessons. I do want to say - at first I didn't think I had received the download link but it was in my gmail "Promotions" or spam folder. Just a heads up if someone else doesn't find their download. Thanks again!
Another way would be to use the first three pages of "Stick Control" and substitute your bass drum foot for all the R's then go through it again substituting your bass drum foot for all the L's. Your right hand (if you're right handed) can play quarters on the ride through all the exercises and then 8th's, then 16th's, then (big challenge) 16th's hand to hand. As one gets more comfortable with these adding the Hi-Hat on 2 and 4 and eventually moving it (for example playing all the exercises while you play the hat's on the ands in each measure or the E's. and so on)
i love your channel man! one question though - why did you go with “non glamorous drummer” when “humble
drummer” is right there
I play open position. Hi-hat with left hand & foot , ride with left hand, I moved it to my left side, and snare with right hand, bass with right foot! Let's see how this works!😁
Exercise #2 was super tough.
I'm so stuck on e and a and I need help...
If I could play eighth notes on the ride and sixteenth notes on the kick I wouldn't be here!
how long does it take to Split your right foot from your right hand
THANKS BRO MUCH INFORMATIVE FROM YOUR CHANNEL REGARDING DRUM SKILL.
This video is underrated...
I am struck with my left hand on double stroke roll. How I can fix it?
Feels like trying to learn to write with the non dominant hand. Right foot and right handed locked for sure, but isnt it supposed to be the opposite? If your right handed are we not left footed? Brain stuck! Lol thatnks for the lesson. Ill review it if it works.
Exercise 2 is so so hard
can't see the pdf for rh/rf separation
I NEED the pdf!
But I can’t find how to get it cuz the time of it being sent out has passed
We s there ANY way I could get it?!
im looking at the pdf but not able to figure out which page is the one dealing with the marching band 16th note moving thing. Help me!! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHH
Hugest problem to me is when I'd like to play foot like and hi hat for example is playing all the time 8's lets say. Problem is every time I make these two booms one after another also my second hand is beating cymbal exactly the same.... xD I'm not sure if ye understand, but dunno how to explain Im total begginer. So instead of I have xDD even in slow
Cant download the pdf, help meee
Great Video...Now My Head Hurts...😋
This is exactly what I need, but where's the PDF?!

@@jackleaves4948 Thank you very much!
@@jackleaves4948 Now to learn sheet music
What if I can't do it at all? Keep slowing it down?
Hello - I know this video is Old but I would like to get the PDF file to practice along with. The link is dead, I get the 404 error like everyone else. New drummer here & it would be nice to have. Can you fix it please? Thanks
Now the link takes you to a page asking for money so I guess he “fixed it”
You could do this at a table.
for some reason for me i used to struggle with this then one day i just done it and was like "well that was easy"
Bro howwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww
@@Subtlxty just keep practicing lol it took me a few months to do it
Cant for the life of me figure out whats going on in the #3 paradiddle. The first two are super easy but my brain cant register the kick pattern
When you’re so early that this only has 47 views and no one commented yet.
Pro tip: get this over with before it's too late
Limb independence...my mortal enemy. I see we meet again.
0:33 reminds me of a certain intro, also I'm starting nofap today, wish me luck!
Stop stealing from books. This is from the blue one.
Im disappointed😢 you should SHOW ALL variations, so that people can practise with you. Too much talking.
I think that we can all agree
Haha idk
Just sharing you this, as Romans 6:23 says, "For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord." When you die in sin, you will end up in hell. But God loves you so much that he sent his son Jesus Christ to die on the cross to pay all the sins of the world for us. Believe in Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior to be saved from sin and have eternal life (John 3:16). As you're saved from sin, repent your sins. Turn away from sin and do righteous things.
