Roughly 10,000 hours of practice before I begin to hear and possibly play a smooth groove, having just retired at the age of 67, two hours a day of practice I will be 82 years old at that point. The goal now is to survive the marathon. I intend to go out with a bang, .......crash out laying on the floor, snared on my Tom.🤟😁
All drummers deal with independence.. Def a huge obstacle for nearly everyone I know but practice defeats all!
I'm not a drum instructor...but one thing I tell beginners is...learn to RELAX when playing. It helps a whole lot.
If you school someone in a drum-off, please start saying "You just got Rob'd."
I am literally on my first day of starting to learn drums and your lesson immediately gave me the ability to break the cycle of my right hand and foot following each other. Thank you! I have a lot to learn but so far this was the most frustrating thing!
Hi! I am a grandmother to a 6 years old girl. She loves to learn how to drum. I inquired around for drum lessons for her, but teachers prefer to teach 7 years old. So, she has a year to wait. Her godfather gifted her with a drum set on her 5th birthday and she has been playing it on her own. I was concerned that being on her own, she will develop bad mannerisms so I started tutoring her using your 10 Beginner Beats episode. She is picking up the lessons very quickly. She wanted me to post on your site to say hi to you. By the way, do you carry kids' tees size Small? She and I hope you will have the time to read our post.
Love that he apologized to the snare at the beginning.
You know someone's a badass drummer when they can build an epic groove using just kick, snare, and hi hat. I've recognized my lack of independence as a major road block and it's driving me crazy. Gonna start practicing these exercises asap. Thanks for the lessons man.
I NEEDED this video badly. It gets annoying when my arm and leg syncs up. Thank you so much.
You have a gift for teaching Rob. I took lessons back in the 80's from a very, very good drummer. The problem was he wasn't a very good teacher. He assumed I knew things he was talking about when I didn't, showed me things instead of taking the time to make sure I understood them. I ended up being completely overwhelmed and discouraged. Now I'm turning fifty in a few months and am picking up the drums again after a thirty year layoff. I have been researching online instructors, I plan on picking two or three to follow instruction from. You are the best teacher I've come across by far. You keep it simple and fun without making the lesson feel like a chore. You explain things very well and you inspire me to believe I can start over and do things right this time around. I used to hate practicing, you've made me love it. Thank you so much.

I love this guy as a teacher. I hope his channel blows up.
Woke up this morning, thinking I’m going to practise limb independence and see this video! Brilliant stuff
Love this for my beginner daughter (and myself)!!!! Absolutely fantastic. Would love to see a video on independent left foot hi-hat work. Thanks for what you do, man. You are making a difference in the beautiful world of music!!
Literally did the first tip, and I mastered double off kicks in 10 mins playing for just a week prior
I've been playing for 35 years and your approach and delivery are always like an epiphany, fresh and new. So glad you're doing this for us all. seeing you playing live has become a goal for me. Sick, sick, sick.
I had this issue for a bit and discovered this trick on my own, but stopped playing for a couple months because I didn’t think I was teaching myself correctly. Glad to see I was right! Can’t wait to use these example practices you showed us, this is the one thing that’s really given me a hard time
I've been struggling with this for years, and you made it so simple to get it right. Thanks, Rob. Your vids are amazing.
i was 21 when I started playing drums and now i am at my 60s. What 40 years of drumming didnt teach me this video has done it in 15 mins. Bravo
