I bought this book for my play group cause everyone had a kill team they just didn’t know it. So it was a low cost for everyone to give it a try for two evenings. We haven’t gone back to it yet as we are in limbo. No one wants to play 9th right now so we appear to be on a semi break until July.
Compendium could be its own format really. Like a beginner format and for peeps who just want to use their bighammer models. Just finished my Dead Space inspired Scouts team and I'm loving them!
My local runs compendium only tournaments every now and again. They are a lot more relaxed and usually get a bunch of newbies in for it. Last one was won by nids followed by deathwatch. Would recommend

I would har liked it to be more focused on direct compendium to compendium comparison, but i guess that would require actual results from a compendium only tournament. I've played Ecclesiarchy through pretty much all of this edition, and they've served me pretty well until fairly recently, when one guy switched over to Heirotek Circle. That team has consistently murdered me on the regular That said, I've nearly tabled Kommandos by the end of turn 2, and managed to win a game against Intercession Squad while being totally tabled. Their big strategic ploys are very simple and mirror each other, so they're easy to remember, and Divine Intervention is a great gotcha that has won me more than a few games when someone charged my Sister Superior only to get cut to pieces when they suddenly didn't have the first strike. I totally agree they're a very simple but very strong team that's very beginner friendly.
Bruhhh you forgot the drukhari team 😢 where would they fall in the tier list? I feel like they're pretty solid with flexibility of list and the special weapon choices

Before I watch all the way through I’ll say that I love compendium teams not all obviously but some are quite strong ITD. Tyranids are so fun to play, very cool with weapon beast lash whip, just all around good I win games with them 🎉
Personally, I'm a huge fan of the Compendium. And while not every team is "competitively viable", each are playable and are great for newbies or folks wanting easier teams to run!
The Compendium Scions did not change to BS 4+, this change applies specifically only to the Scions as part of an Inquisition team. So they're still as solid as ever.
I can't argue with it, compendium Scion and guard mix is still a very capable team and when looking at just the compendium teams, there's no doubt they'll remain in the top tier!
I'm only just starting to play, with one person who is also new to Kill Team. I'm using Ork Kommandos with access to Vet Guard, but I have other Orks I could try Greenskins with and I'm working on a custom Imperial Guard + Scions team with third-party models, so I'm pleased to hear those two are pretty viable.
I feel pretty meh about the Necron Specialist killteam....hoping the compendium team gets some love. I don't dare hope for a destroyer cult specialist team...
Hard disagree about current bespoke Void Dancers being stronger than Compendium Harlequins. The original Domino Field is not limited to beyond 6" and only costs 1CP per turn, plus you get a 2nd fusion pistol
For craftworld, i disagree with the storm guardians, you take them for the mighty fusion gun, the rest is good chaff for objectives and delayed activations, 6 inch shuriken gun, and not completely worthless in melee. The big draw for the Harlequin team compared to Void dancers is to have several fusion pistol/neuro pistol, it would have been very powerful against elite on turn 1/2
I'm really confused about why necrons is that low, they are a bit slow but REALLY STRONK. Beyond that the list seems pretty good, no clue why demons is that high but I've never seen those played IRL so idk maybe I'm missing something. But yeah custodes are clearly the Tippetty top of the tier list

Only viable use I could get out them is ignoring all their fancy toys, spamming scifi shotgun boys, sneaking up tp1 and and then going full blast tp2. (trading A LOT of lives) even then they aren't great. Especially because all their fun things are garbage.

Can you elaborate a bit more on why loyalist marines are so low on the list? I've only played compendium Chaos Marines so far and they seemed pretty strong to me, so I was surprised to see loyalists so low, considering how similar their model stats are to CSM

Greenksins aren't really A tier. They're fun, but far too limited. They have no tricks, they have to spend equipment points to make them average and they have only one playstyle. Chaos Space Marines are definitely A tier, though. Otherwise, it seems about right. I'd put Commorrite somewhere in A tier, too.
I want Deathwatch and Death Guard, but my fear is finishing them, and the new updated models come out. I got 2 and half teams to work on in the meantime lol.
man i dond know about the scion thing. i only play vary casually and if thay change scions to bs4 ill probably stop playing all together honestly as thats the only team i like (custome built beastmen scions)
curious to see what compendium factions get specialist killteams in this new season coming up. Nids are obviously gonna get one, and the teaser for the new season hinted at more Aeldari and I guess infiltrators or maybe scouts. Im curious if the chaos faction will actually get killteams since they seem to keep dancing around general chaos teams. I genuinely think during or after this new season they will drop the compemdium after enough factions get actual killteams. A good junk of the teams already have better specialist counterparts so its odd they continue to allow their compendium teams.

Second Fusion Pistol is nice but Domino Field is so overrated. Cegorach's Jest is what destroys most teams these days.
