WHO_TEE_WHO great 45 did best
I'd always heard that a .45, because if it's slower speed, had the ability to knock down a bad guy when a rifle... something like an M14 30.06 would pass through someone and they could keep coming. Any truth to that?
Nope
@@marvinagent2707 - A typical 9mm projectile weighs 115 grains. A typical .45acp weighs 230. Which one do you suppose has more momentum?
Big surprise the .45 travelled farther.
I wonder how a .357 Sig round would have compared?
That’s some concrete evidence right there
😆😆😆👍👍
this doesn't have enough likes.. hahahaha nice one..
knight flyer is ricocheting a consideration when shooting through objects ? Obviously the block is hollow and soft enough to penetrate the first side. But what about a solid wall or something.
Hahaha good one!!
You son of a bitch hahaha
The exit hole for the .40 was significantly larger than the 9 and the .45 was humongous.
I'm surprised he wasn't paying any attention to this fact at all
I was thinking the same thing!
@@bluracer766but can you get the 40 in hollow point +p ? if so then that would be an even comparison
Your test is a good example why 45 is a great round for urban combat , you don’t need a round that over penetrates. And 45 creates a bigger exit wound.
But if you’re wearing body armor they kinda suck, they’re moving slower that’s where I’d prefer a plus p 9mm.
@@anthonyhuntley4498
But 9mm doesn't penetrate armor either I tested 7 different 9mm loads & even soft armor stopped them all. Though I'm sure it would still hurt.
What would be the difference between the 3 in an urban setting? Any wall is going to be 6”s thick. Even a block wall will be filled!
@@thegreeninvasion5511
Whatever you have on hand, but either of those three is still going to over penetrate against drywall & wood even cars won't stop them unless the engine is hit.

That was my point….
This is what I learned, I am getting behind a cinder block wall if anyone is ever shooting at me with a handgun.
So moral of the story is, build your home with cinder blocks lol
Also good place to be in a Hurricane, lol... Florida Boy 🏝 . Hi Tide..goin fishin.
Not so fast. Other guys have shot various rifles at cinder blocks and most rifle calibers go right through a couple of layers of them.

@@thomastoups3451 LMAO!
@@thomastoups3451 Glad to hear that you have your priorities sorted out.
Really?
The results were dramatically different. Look at the exit holes for each slug. That’s where all the energy is being dumped. The 45 left a moon surface crater.
Wow. The difference in the exit holes is amazing.
Yeah, the 40 and 45 blew out a ton of concrete on the back.
That ping sound from the overhead cam is so enjoyable!
"Its burning my hand but I wanna get the shot so ill leave it"
"I won't bother putting down on the side of the block and taking the shot."
Gangster as fuck boi
“Oh no! Anyway.”
Each only went through one wall. But you failed to note the size of the entrance and exit holes. They were significantly different. .45 made the largest amount of damage!
I was a U.S. Recon Marine in Iraq in 2007 and we were authorized to carry the M1911 .45 ACP sidearm, while Infantry Marines (for the most part) were restricted to the M9 9mm...on more than one occasion I saw the difference up close and personal when a big determined hopped up bad guy got into the same room as you...they could be shot center mass by more then one 9mm round and they would keep coming. But if they were shot center mass by the M1911, they dropped where they stood. Obviously a hollow point 9mm can have much better stopping power but those rounds are against the rules of war so we are talking standard full metal jacket ammo. I also found the slimmer grip of the 1911 to be much more comfortable for me than the Beretta M9/FS-92. My 2 cents anywho.
thank you you are correct
Steve Fowler- Kinda surprised you didn't comment on shooting through cinder blocks. I learned about that 20 years ago from a recon marine (LAI) :>) Semper Fi

Now I just gotta convince my boss that this is the best way to drill holes in cinder block 🤣
Itll do more than just put a hole in it! 😆
When he shoots through the blocks, the important thing here isn't the penetration. But look at the exit wound of each caliber where it exits out the back of the first wall.
Jonathan Cox no shit
Can anyone survive that wound?
Based on the damage both on entry and exit of the first wall, I'd take the .40. It might be interesting to put a jell block right behind the first wall to check cavity damage.
Concrete block is not a very good test material, as any mason could tell you. There are hard spots and soft spots right beside each other. Forensic gel is tested to be consistent throughout.
That being said, these tests are crazy fun to watch !

My god the moment I read that it just hit me like a 45acp. He DOES sounds just like him.

To get a better understanding of which round penetrates concrete better you would need solid layers of concrete of various thicknesses. The 45 will punch through thicker individual layers than the 9 or 40. Very few rounds will punch through one layer of concrete and then have the shape, velocity , and energy to punch through a second layer. Maybe the Smith and Wesson 500? In your tests, the projectiles are to deformed after the first layer of concrete to punch through a second.
What a great idea! Unique way to test power of bullets! I have an 1871 Remington octagonal barrel rolling block with an odd bullet, 42 I think. Would like to use this method to test it. Amazingly accurate in great shape safe to fire I think but have to make bullets. I’m sure underpowered though.
My EDC is a 40S&W. I have no doubt that it has stopping power after watching this video. Good job.
That 40 and 45 left some pretty dam big entry and exit holes...I'm sticking with my 45 💪💪💪

Shit they all did the job so they win for me🤷🏽♂️
More mass and a larger hole from bigger expansion wins out every time. Recoil can be adapted to and acclimated to. You don’t need 15 small holes if the first 3 did the job.

I guessed exactly the same as you did and I was surprised by results. It makes me want to see what a .357 and .44 mag will do.
Need speed to penetrate... when you get into larger bullets they move slower... need a smaller bullet going super fast.
@@mattlyons8180 not exactly. Yes, you need speed, but you also need mass to hold that speed. A supersonic 22 wouldn't even make it through the first wall
.44 mag just shatters the whole block, but I was using hollow points. I’d bet that FMJ rounds would do the same as the rounds in the video

The instantaneous leaking of vital bodily fluids from hydrostatic organ jelly is a desired component of any lethal threat encounter. One does not get that much when putting down recalcitrant cinder blocks. However, a carefully calculated 155 artie round into a pile of still viable recalcitrant cinder blocks renders the aforementioned issue to moot point status! Thanks for the videos though.

Not surprised by results, the .40 & .45 are bigger and heavier but are a good deal slower then the 9mm. They all have their own advantages and uses.
The 40 is not a good deal slower
WOW! VERY surprised with the 45! Thought it would knock that block right in half. Wonder what the 357 would do? Great video. Expected allot more from the 45.
This was quite interesting.
It seems like if you need to get a bad guy through a hard barrier a fmj might be more effective due to it expanding through the hard barrier (assuming it penetrates and has enough energy left to do some damage to the bad guy).
We all know that a hollow point is best for direct fire.
And so we find barrier blind hollow points, which I believe are the best (but most expensive) option available.
Thanks for the great video. The results are a little surprising. I also thought the 40 and 45 would carry more energy to the second wall. Again thanks.... we can't learn without testing things out!
Hard barrier penetration has always been the shortcoming of the .45acp round. It was designed to stop humans and horses, not windshields and concrete blocks.
Great test. Note to self, if someone is shooting at you with a 9mm, 40 or 45 cal, hide behind at least the second wall of the cinderblock. I'm looking forward to it being that warm again, I hate shooting in the cold.
I’m amazed at how stout that cinder block is. I’d have bet more penetration especially with the 45! Great intel, thanks a bunch wdw.
Be interesting to see the 10mm take on a block.
@@Peakfreud
Or 357Sig 125 grain FMJ.
You should have shown the close ups of the exit hole in the first cinder block. The .45 was massive.
John Taylor I respect that I just like the option of 45 or 9mm
That 45 hole though!!!!!!👍and the 9mm should of got highest grain did on the others...nice vid
Awesome video! Really appreciate all the efforts to present the comparisons as objectively as possible. Stay safe!
Really appreciate you watching!
Brilliant video. Much more useful and meaningful than the expensive ballistic gel videos. Because stuff does get in the way if you are shooting at anything other than a target in a controlled environment.
Nice. Love how the back side of wall gets bigger with each cal increase. To be expected though.
Might have been interesting to measure the diameter of the exit side of the hole, to assess how much cinder block was disrupted by each - or weigh the blocks before and after - same idea. I wonder about two other rounds - the vicious 7.62x25 fired out of a CZ-52 or other, and a .44 Magnum or even .357 Magnum. I would think that the issue in penetration would be retained velocity after passing through the first wall, and any of these 3 should have what it takes. But that's different from stopping power, which is probably related to the amount of energy delivered to the first wall - thus the interest in the diameter of the exit hole. I noticed that the 9mm cracked the block - but the .40 and .45 just bulldozed through it. I wonder if that's repeatable and a reflection of the 9mm's higher velocity (1190 vs 990 vs 835 f/s). And where's the .40 cal Waldo? Interesting video!
I looked for that also,
40 seemed to displace more of the exit surface, I'll be searching for ballistic gel tests, but I even have to admit, against the 45 impressive, but 45 still my preference, blocks, gel don't mean much, more can it stop the perp
Really liked this test! Great comparison! !!!
The 9mm is king! Just as effective as the other calibers tested, less recoil, more bullets in the mag, cheaper to buy and always available.
Always available except during a corona virus lol I cant find 9mm anywhere!
Can confirm
Just picked 500 rounds for $100
Nah 45 is king
If I hit you in the shoulder with a 9, it might go straight through. It might not, but if I hit you in the shoulder with a .45, you are gonna go down, and will likely lose that arm because it will shatter bone! I do not need more rounds if I know the rounds I send hit their mark. I can handle more clips with less each. The hit each has is greater. As a test in ballistic gel would indicate. I just cannot switch from that. Gimmie a long barrel M1911 any day.
5:34 you scared the shit out of me, I thought a snake was in there.
What’s missing in the equation is the degree of impact. When looking at the 2nd cinder block wall one can see the degree of difference in the amount of force or impact on the surface of the 2nd cinder block wall. Look at the size of the circular percussion shadow of the .45 ACP. The distribution of percussion from the impact is visually much greater.
The 3 Little Pigs had it right. No straw or stick houses. 🤣🤣🤣
Great video, kind of shocked by the outcome.
I request a redo. This time use something thinner like drywall and set up many layers evenly spaced. I think more varying results from that test. fun vid though thanks!
What was impressive was the exit hole in the first “wall” by the 40 and the 45
Awesome video Who-Tee-Who! I gave you a big thumbs up!
What length barrel are you using on all the calibers? Are they all shot from pistols?
For 9mm I prefer 124/125 or 135 grain bullets for better weight retention and penetration of bone. Heavier is generally always better.
Heavier is generally better, but with hardly any noticeable difference across the caliber and weight range for this test, it is doubtful anything on this planet will ever actually notice those extra 10-20 grains.
I would like to have known the muzzle velocities of these three rounds. Seems like the 40 might have had more fpe (maybe from 1024 fps velocity), which would account for its disintegrating on impact.
It's also the heavier .40 at 180 grains so we're loosing some speed with the heavier round.
I’ve been pretty happy as well as very confident with my 9mm Taurus. It’s a great gun.
Great vid 🤙🏼
Thanks for watching Raymond!

This was about to become a fun video.
How much more will the 5,6 FN do against a cender block?
Thanks for the video interesting results. I thought that if any of those calibers had a chance to go through the cinder block on the back side it would have been the nine mm because of its smaller projectile traveling and a higher velocity.
yup. thanks for watching David!!

As for the velocity vs. grain weight, do this again with a 7.62 x .25 Tokarev round and let us know the results! Would that Tokarev round penetrate the second layer of cinder block with it's much faster speed?
In reality, say you were in an urban situation, I don't think I would want a round that would penetrate any further. I would rather have the knock down power and have the slug stop there.
In an urban situation, you would want hollowpoint and not fmj, especially in 9mm. It would most likely pass through and possibly hit the dog across the street.
Truth at 100mph 👍
I’m investing in more cinderblocks. LOL!
Curious what length of barrel was used for each caliber?
Very good video! I would like to see the results of the bullets exiting the first wall of the blocks.
That is kind of why I like the 9 mm. The power is about the same as the larger pistol calibers and you generally get a greater capacity. Not to mention that the ammo is always available and very cheap.
Me too
..did you see the exit hole? What good is capacity if your enemy still walks around with 3 rounds on him, if capacity is a corncern get a 22...
@@Yosemite-George-61 Well, for use in a variety of sized handguns, the 9mm is probably the best-fit medium for capacity, stopping power and accuracy. What good is stopping power if the recoil causes you to miss your mark? Especially considering the adrenaline of a gunfight.
Agreed, I own many caliber pistols but my everyday carry is a 9 mm with quality jacketed hollow points
I have 3 frineds in Law Enforcement and none of the carry 9mm.
biggest difference is in the exit hole on the first wall, you should have measured that... and kinetic force if possible (put one block alone and measure how much it slides under the impact)... I'm still a .45 fan...
A good test that I seen was.
The demonstrator had a wooden frame 4 foot tall 4 foot wide with 2 rows of squares about 6 tall and 6 inches wide.
Each square was for a specific round.
It had a steel plate and various wood plates behind it they were glued together .
He fired the same rounds from different companies, one per square so he could compare the different penetration of the rounds.
Nice. Wonder what the 10mm would do for different weights and hard cast.
I know this is an older video, but wondering if the .40 would have done more had it not been a flat nose which dissipates the energy quicker. A round nose .40 would have been a better comparison (where to find?). Would be interesting to see high penetration rounds comparison like something from Underwood.
I thought for sure the .40 or maybe the 9mm wouldve at least embedded themselves inside the second wall. Oh well.
Also, props to you for actually resetting the blocks every test, makes it fair. So many shitty ballistics test online where they re-use the same block, which has lessened integrity because of prior holes.
Thanks for watching!

Thats why the 9mm is the best round. More rounds less recoil more accurate follow up shots. Cheaper to shoot. 9mm is the way to go.
Best is subjective. The 45 had more mass and mushroomed therefore creating a larger wound channel. Recoil depends on the gun. I reload and cast 45, so it's actually cheaper to shoot than 9mm which I do.load but dont cast. I shoot both, I carry both, I'm more accurate with my 45.
