What Ole was trying to explain to Dave was that it was not inevitable. The Dumont network was national but they used talent from all the regions and Fred Kohler didn't invade anyones turf. Vince could have done that, still made money on ppv's and the business would still thrive on a regional level

Ole probably wanted to say "dammit Dave Meltzer, did you call me to piss me off"

Ole is an older guy who looks back and sees what it used to be. It's natural, and should be expected. Meltzer comes across like a know-it-all MOST.OF.THE.TIME, instead of an interviewer asking Ole's thoughts on a subject. Dave should stop putting his own opinions over, and just be a journalist. I understand he has covered the business for 30 years, but DAMN! Is this an interview, or what?

think how many wrestlers were making a living in 1975 and even 1985 compare to now. wrestling is dead.

Ole makes a great point between The United States, Mexico, Canada and Puerto Rico there were a lot more Professional Wrestling Promotions. Meltzer also forgets that Wrestling was syndicated ad was shown on local stations in different parts of the country.

I grew up watching Ole as a kid, he was one of the best in the business at "SELLING" the product! When the Andersons were in a match or on an interview you really believed that somebody was going to get their ass whipped, and usually did. Bottom line is he knows the business better than just about anybody living. This "interviewer" isn't interested in learning anything from someone who has been their and done that, he just wants to show off for his buddy's and web followers by using the old Fox News technique of asking a question, letting the subject start to answer, then interrupt with another question or comment to cut off their train of thought and keep them from getting to their point. They do this to try to discredit the subjects answers and to try to make themselves look more intelligent than the person they are interviewing. Ole is pissed with this guy because he know what the guy is trying to do to him. He is a cantankerous old ass, but he's also smart one.

If it wasn't Vince it would have been Crockett. Harley Race admitted that one of the main reason why the NWA failed was because when they tried to compete with Vince nobody wanted to look out for the company, just their own territory, and when Crockett had the ability to produce a quality show it was Mid-Atlantic that was made to look good , and all the other territories were made to look inferior.

The one thing Ole misses here is that while there were thousands of guys employed in professional wrestling, you had to work 5 times as much for much less relative pay.

you gotta realize ratings from the 70's and before cant be compared to 80s-now. heck, there was only 4-5 channels to even watch back then. now whats the average... 120channels+

this entire interview was just dave Meltzer doing a pretentious ignorant soliloque about his knowledge of the wrestling business with ole Anderson making a brief comment every 5 minutes
Meltzer has one of the best minds in prowrestling history talking to him,all he had to do was ask a question and then shut up and listen
but he felt it was necessary to teach ole about the business and lecture him about how and why he is wrong about everything
    frustrating!
