45 year old mum of 6 sitting my bedroom smiling at the good memories of all the people i met in the 80's that changed my world for the better, through heartaches, hardships and beyond the music kept us going x
I am 51 listening to this in the middle of a pandemic. Love this song because my friend Peter loved it. He passed in 1985 of cancer. Feeling total comfort. ❤
I was 17 years old when I first heard of the English Beat and what an experience that has me listening to this track and the Band the same way I did 34 years ago!! Thank-you so much!!!🍻👊❤❌⭕
Was at the Isle of Wight scooter run 2021 and all the music come but to life for me, I was a rude boy back in the day and 80s is where we are, that gave us music and good times
Weird how this song makes me time travel back to my earliest childhood memory, was 7 years old, my sister was 8 dad had just painted our bedroom and this was playing on the radio, still remember the strong smell of the sky blue enamel paint drying and him laughing, smoking a ciggie. 😁
cant forget this one since 1981, good times and a sense of unity... something great happened in those years but sadly appears to be gone. music, as always, changed.
@ Andy Williams was the first...1963. This song has been covered by so many artists like Amen Corner, Madeline Bell, Julie London, Patti Page, Alton Ellis, Skeeter Davis, Bobby Darin of cours, Paul Anka, Bobby Rydell, Renegade Soundwave, Percy Faith, Chad & Jeremy, and The Beat at last.
Oh babes..I have a Donna Summer I Feel Love original LP, and also a stereo system with record player from 94 or 95 to play it on..but lost my needle years ago. You just made me want to ebay a new needle. Cheers babes!x
Look at myself...58 years..nothing left of my blond hair, face, the 24/7 good vibe. So pleased that i was in the 80's 21 and was pretty awhere of the beauty of that time
Happy 65th Birthday Dave Wakeling. 19 February 1956 Birmingham, England. I always loved that Two Tone / Reggae playing style you have. ie.. The Specials / The Skatalites
Heard these guys playing live at Alexandra Palace 8th Sept - support for Toots and the Maytals. Their set was the highlight of the show for me.....Along with 1 hour of old school reggae/ska/rocksteady being spun by David Rodigan!!!!. Add in Lee Scratch Perry and it truly was a night to remember..... sore feet + wet through with dancing by the end of the night!!!
i was to young for this era but was gonna live it going to a specials concert in 1980 made news for fights was on lock down till 16 i was 5 then yes true was taken by relative loads of venues about with ska comming back even northern soul big night around country alot of events around usa and europe ska and mod acts
l'm 56 yrs old now but one second into any English Beat song takes me right back to when l was in my 20's. Ahh the 1980's a fantastic fun blur of a time!

Saw English Beat at a concert in Truckee, California back in 2008, met Dave backstage, a great guy, he gave me his time to talk, it was great, I lived in England from 78-81 when they just started out!
I was too young in 1980 to connect with The Beat and ska/skinhead culture was for the older kids, but I remember hearing this for the first time at my Debs (Debutante Ball, like an Irish version of Prom Night) in 1990. Looking back it seems a strange choice for the DJ, to play during a slow dance set, ten years later. but I was instantly captivated by it, I had to find out what it was. It sounds so radical for a pop song too, all the heavy echoes and distant vocals. I'm glad he played it cos it got me into the band. Can't remember much else about that night lol
i remember this coming out in the spring of 1983 , i'd just turned 20 . i went in to hmv and bought this , boxer beat by jo boxers and our lips are sealed fun boy 3., with some birthday money i had .
I am old enough to remember this and be both surprised and pleased by English band The Beat's rework in reggae style. Still have their LP (and the turntable).
62 years old and reminiscing profusely. I love it.
Same here, only one year later. Gonna dance into my grave!
@@MrChannel2010 I left school in 1983 but loved ska.
Big Up Lass, proper tune!
59 and grateful for this music right now 🎶
1980. Met my husband of 43 years old, Rockin’ to this classic.
64 years old and once again, as usual, reminiscing profusely. Love of my life and loving my man - still. MEMORIES!

This has to be 1 of the best songs ever recorded you never tire of listening
A horribly underrated band, GREAT music and an influential sound. Just wonderful.
Was at the Isle of Wight scooter run 2021 and all the music come but to life for me, I was a rude boy back in the day and 80s is where we are, that gave us music and good times
All us mod girls back in the day loved a rude boy...I'm 56 and loved the ska movement...hope you still have your fishtail parka jacket 🎶🎶🎶

Sang this song to myself all the way to Great Yarmouth on my Vespa, on a scooter rally, back in 83.
good choice - If I ever go on a Vespa scooter rally, I'll probably sing this too.
I always used to sing ‘nowhere to run’ by Martha Reeves.

Cracking song. Rest in peace Ranking Roger......
Believe it or not, I first heard this song done by Andy Williams back in the 1960s. And the singer for the English Beat sounds just like him.

Memories of British reggae in the early 80z. UB40, Matumbi, Steel Pulse and new age music bands like The Police and The Specials (Reggata de blanc.)
When real bands with talent existed. I miss these days.
Ska'd for life ..what a fantastic song

Such a smooth, mellow ska tune. I was about 10yrs old when this came out. Classic.
