- In my first video for this channel, I reviewed my own Porsche 911 964 Carrera 4 and explained why it is my all time favourite 911. I also mentioned that I was hoping to get my hands on a 964RS to compare and thanks to the generosity of Mark Sumpter, proprietor of Paragon Porsche and owner of a very lovely 1992 Rubystone Red 964RS, this wish has become reality as shown in this video.

My first time watching one of your videos, I have to say I am impressed. Great calm delivery with great information, clear interest in the topic and critically clear passion for cars. Loving the calm, mature and well enunciated delivery without unnecessary drama or verbosity of your peers.

Thanks so much for your positive words - much appreciated and thanks for subscribing 🙏
Though the differences are subtle, you can not reproduce the feel, sound, handling and performance of a RS compared to a C2/4. Even if you modify. I’ve driven both and have no doubt the RS is superior!
The 964RS was the last car that Ferdinand Porsche entirely designed himself; as a clay model by hand and he modelled it in Rubystone Red. This colour apparently represents the love of the creator and is supposed to charge with energy and vitality
Great info, thanks, I didn't know that. The 'pink' is not everyone's cup of tea but I think it really suits the RS and I can see why Ferdinand Porsche chose it.
Head of development of the 964RS was Roland Kussmaul.
Why would Ferdinand Porsche model a 964 to a RS in clay when the 964RS is essentially a 964 base car that was introduced in 1990. There are no different designed shaped panels for the RS. Just materials changes for light weight gains and re-worked mechanics for speed & handling.
Oh, I do miss mine! They lack the grunt and speed of moderns RSs, but they do feel a lot more agile and connected IMHO. And, Ross, great video. You have a new subscriber in me. I look forward to future episodes.
Thanks Jeremy, I know what you mean, great machines, quite raw by modern standards but lot's of fun.
I have a 964 C4, in the past was updated with bilstein suspension, lowered and properly tuned. I removed all the stuff from the frunk and left basic things. And men remove weight from this car has a huge effect in the car behaviour, mine can be more lightweight but I’m quite sure you can make a regular C2 something very close to an RS with no excessive cost. So in my opinion, RS is a collectable car BUT it is no longer a track car because of the price and the low gap in performance with the C2’s. Lovely car but what I love from mine is that I can drive it easy minded.
Fair comment 👍
No wonder you were smiling - what a car!
Such an amazing car, and i never thought I’d say it but LOVE the colour! Great vid
Thanks, I know what you mean, that colour probably wouldn’t work on any other car.
You just got another subscriber. Wonderful, measured delivery and great knowledge. I NEED a 964RS, but don't we all...
Thanks for your comments Mark, much appreciated 🙏 I understand Paragon currently has an RS for sale 😉🤑
Thank you for sharing your enthusiasm for 911’s. I drive gen 2 997 Carrera 4s and agree 4 wheel drive in the winter months essential.
Thanks Mark, I had a 997 Gen 2 4S a while back, loved that car. Swapped it for an M5 when my first child was born.
@@RossOnCars We r relocating to North Devon from London soon, 911 is an obvious choice for those roads. Am considering a 964 when settled. Thanks again for your concise knowledge! More Porsche content please
Loving the 964 content
🙏
Thank you for this! Though I'm a Porsche guy myself (still can't afford one), I look forward to your future uploads whatever they feature! Liked and subbed!
👍
216570 and C4. We are brothers from another mother or well marketed to! The owners of the RS in the earlier days when they were driven said they were so focused they made a poor road car. Many 964s were modified to be more like a RS but are now being returned closer to original. Horses for courses. I’d love to have a track oriented 964 and a road oriented one. If there is only room for one, it’s the C4 for me.
Ha, yes there’s something about 911s and nice watches ;) I’m with you on owning one of each, but whilst I admire the RS, I love my C4 👊
Stunning car.
HI Rhett, yes it looks brand new - remarkable.
Nice video, thanks. I prefer road biased suspension, I can't understand why everyone chases these rock hard spring rates, unless they do lots of track days.
Thanks and totally agree, I prefer a touring spec personally.
Which one would you take? C4 or rs and why! Going to buy 964. Like to say, it will be the Rs. Great work!!!
Thanks Ian 🙏 Well I have to confess my posterior is a little large for the RS seats otherwise I’d go RS like a shot. C2 or C4 more comfortable and like I say in the vid, you could adapt the C2 fairly easily to be more RS like. Have fun shopping 😀
@@RossOnCars thanks Ross. Perhaps we could do a video together, on prospect of someone new buying a 964.
Good luck with channel.
I like the Car, thanks.
👍
Sold my 964 carrera 4 about 20 years ago now and still have the pictures I pine over. Believe it or not I payed 11k for a K reg then sold it 3 years later for 15k! How I wish I’d have kept it 🤦🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️🤣
£11K - wow! I had a LHD black 964 back in the early naughties - can't remember what I paid for it but couldn't have been too much more. £11K wouldn't cover an engine rebuild now 🤣
It is an interesting question - if you are really only going to use on the road - do you want the “race inspired” specification? Especially as most of our good B roads are not paved very well. Although I don’t really have the money to replace some of my cars with the competition version - it is a question I think about when I watch these reviews. If I really had the choice, I would probably save my money (or at least by additional cars). What did you conclude with with this one?
Hi Gavin, to be honest those RS car seats are a little small for my frame so it wouldn’t be a comfortable car in that respect for me personally. If it wasn’t for that, I’d have one like a shot - it’s an exciting car, albeit more suited to summer weekends and Porsche events. Not a bad investment either - a legendary car in my book.
Mr. Fiennes? Paging Mr Ralph Fiennes? Your car is ready sir.
Ha, it has been said! Fiennes not such a petrolhead though 🙏
