As late-late-middle-aged "mature enthusiasts," we put our money down in advance more than two months ago for the fully loaded Premium Plus Turbo US version after driving the standard CX30 and the turbo Mazda 3 back-to-back. Closest competitor for us was the Audi Q3, but we preferred the Mazda for looks (both inside and out), performance, long-term reliability, and FUN. And the price differential -- 10 to 20 percent less than comparable competitors from Audi, BMW, and Volvo -- didn't bother us in the least! We've had the car for more than a month now and are very pleased with it. True, the back seat and cargo space are a bit less than some of the competition, but that's why we have an Outback. I've been looking into buying a CX-30 GT or CX-5 GT. Something that seems to get heavily overlooked in all of the reviews I've seen is the functionality of Mazda's HUD: it shows your blind spot information. It's almost as good (functionally) as Hyundai/Kia's blind spot cameras but available at a much lower price point. Truly not a replacement for actually looking at your blind spot, but definitely a nice-to-have before you decide to change lanes. Just how great would it be to know if something MIGHT be in your blind spot without taking your eyes off of the road in front of you. Also a nice-to-have feature is the turn-in on the headlights when turning the steering wheel.
Agreed. Been asking for a while. Still weird the way they say horsepower and torque rather than power and torque. Also weird that they got rid of the coloured bar graphs (which are great). Still, great work, thanks.
The parking brake feature isn't bad. If you want it off just turn it off. I like that it doesn't let go until you're for sure ready to drive. I've seen people put their car in drive or reverse and have a full blown conversation with someone in their driveway before actually driving off. Also helps in steep hill starts.
What I like about this channel is they’re not comparing cars with others unless it’s important. A lot of others when they drive normal people cars they’ll go “Drives like a BM” “looks like a mercedes” “not as good as a lambo” “not as quick as a hellcat”.
Seeing it with Black Rims (and even the side mirror caps) I don't mind the plastic cladding nearly as much and it makes the whole bottom half(?) all black and uniform which is a huge improvement IMO
I'd still get the normal CX-30. I prefer naturally aspirated engines as they are less complicated and less prone to problems. This car was not designed to race but to drive in style and comfort. It's also the better choice to drive over the snow we have here in Alberta. If I had to buy one it would be the AWD GS CX-30
I bought the 2020 CX-30 last year because I needed a new vehicle (the TSP review was hugely helpful!). Am I disappointed I missed out on the turbo version? Sure. But it's a lot more fun to drive than any other mid-sized SUV/CUV I test drove, and the infotainment is awesome.

I got a Mazda 2 back in August and I'd have to say that even though Mazdas aren't super fast, every single car feels a lot more sporty than they should (taking into consideration weight, torque, and hp). Mazda really does an amazing job in every single car. Not the best interior material choices to be honest, but to me, it's worth it. They give you a more luxurious feeling than a cheaper BMW or Mercedes. Mazda doesn't do something extremely good, they just deliver GOOD cars in every single way. Also, I do believe that Mazda's paint is one of the most beautiful looking paints out there (sadly it's super prompt to scratches).
People should quit exaggerating by speaking In windchill all of the time . I constantly hear that it's -40 here in Winnipeg. That happens on average every ten years . To only get halo rings while driving turn off DRL's in the infotainment, and set the headlight setting to on. The headlights will automatically come on at night when dark and during the day you will only have the halo rings on even while driving. This is the same for Gen 4 Mazda 3 as well.
You guys are a reference on how to do cool reviews! I love them! Trying to do a couple on my own on a different channel, not reviews but driving and visiting places.
Mazda SkyActive on CX30 does not have torque vectoring. What they have is G-vectoring which is reducing torque to the front wheel which is under more load and increasing the torque to the wheel that is under less load in order to improve steering response. Again, no torque vectoring....more weight and much more expensive. And I do own 2021 Mazda CX-30 AWD turbo...and I love it. Let's see how does perform in the winter.
Really well made video review! Thanks for the information too, made me that much more certain this will be next my car! Def CX-30 turbo with the leather trim for me. Biggest drawbacks seem to be aesthetics and I personally think its a fine looking car.
Now that they put the 2.5 Turbo in the AWD CX-30 I too am looking at upgrading from my 2017 CX-3. The looks and style of both cars are good, but the 30 just has a little more of a premium style, and the motor now is definitely premium, in fact, it outperforms many premiums that cost $10k+ more than it.
You'd die. Im serious. It's not safe. The Miata is too light for a somewhat powerful turbo engine. You'll over drift around a corner and crash if you cant control the throttle input.

1 suggestion. Maybe somewhere in the video (maybe in the middle, or even at the end as another "segment"), you can break down where the model you're reviewing fits into the car maker's line up. For instance, if it's the automaker's compact SUV, what's the difference between that and the full sized one? Or If it's a Lexus ES, what's the difference between the S and LS? Then, you can talk about the option package. I really like how you did that for the Macan between the base, S, GTS, and Turbo. That was super helpful to me. And then finally name what cars you think are its main competitors. You could show like a graphic or chart. You could even then link the other cars you've reviewed so that people can go to the other videos and compare them. And if you did it at the end of each video, you could make that into its own segment with a different vibe/feel and people can choose to skip or go directly to it. Thanks!
At 1:50 to 2:00 you can actually watch the headlights move from steering input! When my Miata does it I hardly notice it because I'm so used to it, but watching it from the outside is pretty funny lol
I loved having this on my 2013 Mazda 3 GT. Took a sharp S-curve on a country road at night once and left my high beams on (because they "should have" been facing away from the road) and got flashed by an oncoming car... since the headlights had turned straight at them, lol.
I'm deciding at the moment between a Mazda 3 GT Sport, CX-30 Turbo and a CX-5 Turbo. I haven't tried the CX-30 yet but based on the video, I will! Your videos are really helping me choose between the three. Thank you!
I test drove both: CX30 Turbo and CX5 turbo. If you want fun driving get the CX30. If you want space get the CX5. For me.. after test driving both on the same day.. I couldn’t stop talking about the CX30 and how much fun I had driving it.
I just got my new Soul Red 2021 CX-30 GT Turbo. I traded in my red 2018 Alfa Romeo Guila, Turbo, Lusso edition. OMG, so much more fun to drive. SO MUCH. I love this car. Yes, I understand they're totally different types of cars, but still! For me the Alfa was gorgeous on the outside, but was a disappointing drive. The CX-30 is super cute on the outside and an even better drive. The Alfa was like the pretty girl with a flat personality and the CX-30 is the cute girl who's sweet and super fun... like me :-D.
To address your issue about being able to open the doors. You should be able to set the auto door locks in the infotainment system. One of the settings will lock the doors when you put the vehicle in gear and unlock them when you put it in park. So, if you stop somewhere and get out all the doors will be unlocked.
I like how Mazda doesn’t detuve that engine between platforms, the same 227 (250 with high octane) HP / 320 TQ engine in the CX-9 is in the CX-30 and Mazda 3 Turbo. Nice! Thank you Mazda.
Unpopular opinion.. I actually reallllly love this plastic cladding. Excessive? Maybe a smidge. But, it works with the car to me. I currently own a Mazda3, and I’m considering the CX30!
According to Mazda global marketing research, female owners actually PREFER thicker lower body claddings on CUVs as they convey a perception of ruggedness/protection over speed bumps and thicker snow on road surface.
I have the 2021 CX-30 non-Turbo. Oh how I wish I had waited just 4 months. 😭 I do love my car though, and I think it looks great! I think the current Mazdas have a great look, and it sets them apart from a sea of look a like SUVs.
About the non-driver doors not open, you need to do some settings in the Infotainment. Look for something like "open all doors when parked" then you are all set. Even when the car is still running, you can open all doors as long as you put the car into Park.
@@commbubba1990 Proof? From what I've seen, post-Ford Mazda vehicles hold up quite well, so they can't be cost cutting that hard. They also have a growing relationship with Toyota who's core philosophy is about quality.

I feel like I'm one of the few people that actually do not mind the black cladding. I didn't like it at first when the CX-30 first got announced but I think with the black wheels especially it kind of gives it an "off-road" vibe that contrasts with the otherwise near-luxury vibe they have been going for the past few years with their other models.

You guys take a lot of pride in your work, I don't care at all about this particular car but it's a straightpipes video so im gonna watch.
Buy the Turbo. They are very reliable, you won"t regret it.
The standard 2.5L has almost 200hp and is more than enough for this vehicle.
@michaellangston271 the NA 2.5L will get to 300k km with less issues. Turbos are reliable but they don't last forever.
I think the black wheels match really well with the black plastic around the car.
Yes I would get one. The complaints that you had are within reason BUT Mazda is getting better and better. Good review!
"good job Mazda. Holy crap!" That's a good review

10:45 the raw honesty and emotion that makes Straight Pipes so compelling. Awesome review guys 👍
I do extremely enjoy my non turbo version. Such a great car for what you pay! The luxury, confort and handling paired to the need of a big of cargo space you need is perfect.
That’s awesome
So nice to see Mazda is willing to put a great turbo/ drivetrain into the CUV lineup, not the mainstream 140hp thingy
"Kona looks better"
Did I really hear that? Lol
it's kinda scary how bad someone's taste can be
The Kona is the 2021 Aztek
I really like the Kona and how it looks, but Mazda's cars looks so good especially with their paint options
Yes
The Kona looks like somthing a 10 year old would come up with. The new Mazdas look semi Italian and semi Japanese.
My friend is looking for a new car and I want to say we watch your 2019 car vids over current year videos of the same model from other content creators. You guys make some seriously great videos. Keep it up!
Hot Hatch Comeback! Absolutely love it and would take it over those slowmobiles. Great review! I like the beards: rugged yet sophisticated.

I truly LOVE my special edition turbo cx-30!! Feeling the LUV each new drive!! Thanks Mazda!
Just curious, what makes your CX-30 special? I just ordered mine (jet black/red leather turbo), and I can't find any proof of someone else having this spec online.
if it doesn't hit 60 in under 4 seconds Yuris excitement level is like accidentally seeing Jacob in a banana hammock
The actual 0-60 has varied in testing from 5.8-6.2 seconds. It would need considerably more power to be in the 4 second range.
@@scottlowell493 its varied between models between the 3, cx30, cx5, and cx9, which all vary drastically in overall weight but have the same engine, are you fucking daft
200 miles before my Mazda 3 GT turns 300,000 She still drives like a sports car, have never needed engine work, just did regular maintenance and front end work, I have to say a lot of front end work.
Get the turbo
Jakub complaining about it being -15
Me in Alberta with -50🥵
Me in Nunavut where it’s -70🥵
People should quit exaggerating by speaking In windchill all of the time . I constantly hear that it's -40 here in Winnipeg. That happens on average every ten years . Unless you're out on the open prairie that's not your true temperature. I do love my heated steering wheel on my Kia however and and my heated seats .
I just bought a CX-30 Premium (no Turbo) and loving it. I find the 186hp engine more than enough for my driving.
More budget friendly cars pls 🙏

@@CerberusTenshi dunno couldnt drive the Turbo as it is not available in Europe ... the Sky X tbh doent feel like it has 180 HP, but hey, 6l per 100 km for 180 HP CSUV, all fine for me.
2022 cx-30 gt premium trim owner here. Love the engine, great little suv, but can’t believe it comes without park distance sensor, that should be standard at least in this trim. Otherwise, very happy, nobody needs more car than this, really.
-15 sounds like a spring day in Winnipeg, it was -38 earlier, so I need my car seats to warm up FAST ;)
Amen brother, lol! I also need my seats to cool down fast in the summer, so that is why I am going with the 2022 CX-5 either in the new Sport Design or the Signature trim. I will know better when they both get here at Gerry Gordon's in June
To only get halo rings while driving turn off DRL's in the infotainment, and set the headlight setting to on. The headlights will automatically come on at night when dark and during the day you will only have the halo rings on even while driving. This is the same for Gen 4 Mazda 3 as well.
Canadian cars don't let you turn off DRLs by law. American cars vary state-by-state so the option is there.
You guys are a reference on how to do cool reviews! I love them! Trying to do a couple on my own on a different channel, not reviews but driving and visiting places.
“-15 which is.. idk in american that’s like, -100, or something” 😂😂😂 that’s a fair shot lmao
I won 2021 AWD turbo....we had a pretty bad snow storm today...not an issue....even on non winter tires...
Why do Mazda metallic colors always look so much better than most other brands?
The styling of Mazda resembles an Eagle. Once you see it, you can't unsee it and it kinda grows on you.
I’m seeing tons of these pop up around Southern California.
Agreed. Still dreaming of a CX5
Imagine this engine on a Miata!
You'd die. Im serious. It's not safe. The Miata is too light for a somewhat powerful turbo engine. You'll over drift around a corner and crash if you cant control the throttle input.
@@TheMarkoPoloProgram speak for yourself! :p
@@TheMarkoPoloProgram : perhaps with chassis enhancements it could be road-able ....always felt Mazda needs a halo performance car again.Their gorgeous show car coupe a few years back would have been perfect but appears it is not to be...
Never! It has cylinder deactivation. You would be driving a Miata with TWO out FOUR cylinders running.
@@TheMarkoPoloProgram there is a company in California they do a 6.2 LS swap into a miata. There was an engineering team from a university in Alberta, they dropped in a Cummins 4 cylinder diesel in miata. Never have enough power in a small car

About the non-driver doors not open, you need to do some settings in the Infotainment. Look for something like "open all doors when parked" then you are all set. Even when the car is still running, you can open all doors as long as you put the car into Park.
You have to love Mazda as a company. Engineering first. Marketing a distant third.

Manually putting down the parking break is a problem now days.

I thought that was insane also.
Yeaaaah I've got a 2017 Mazda 3 with the electronic parking brake. It takes like one second to click the button... but maybe I'm used to having to take the parking brake off because I have manuals and everyone with automatics just slams it in park and hopes the parking pawl saves the car? 🤷♂️
