Mazda's Crosstrek rival just got better and way faster this year with a turbo engine that makes it quicker then most of its luxury rivals from Audi, BMW, and Mercedes-Benz. Would you guys consider buying this over a far pricier luxury brand?

    • @OldThomMerton
      @OldThomMerton 3 года назад +5

I'm not a luxury brand guy . . . I'm more interested in performance, especially handling, and I've owned and liked Mazda vehicles; the steering feel is usually great and previous vehicles in their line always had a fine suspension even in base vehicles. Sadly, Mazda is pushing towards that 'white area' (A|A reference) with the Buick and Cadillac and the semi-luxury types . . . and they are being forced there because the leadership at Hyundai and Kia have out-Mazda-ed Mazda, bringing really sporty and fun cars to the market; meanwhile Mazda can't seem to keep up and their products are not as sporty and fun-to-drive as they used to be.

I read that a turbo and direct injection engine combo gunks up the valves more and quicker. I am not really looking for luxury, but more so for reliability and longevity. I am a fan of the Crosstrek, but Mazda’s reputation for reliability and longevity has my husband and I looking at the CX30 for a daily driver. I am a taller guy than him, but I think the CX30 will be large enough for me because the Crossrek definitely is. Should I be concerned with a direct injection/combo, or am I overthinking this?

@Ayush Malpeddi because at the time, Hyundai and Kia had a reputation for making garbage cars (of course today is a different story) but Mazda doesn’t have such a history or stigma, their worst was probably the 00s when Ford was at the helm but even then they were still decent. I think Mazda can safely mold themselves into an affordable luxury brand. I would’ve preferred the safer route of bringing enfini or a new luxury brand into the US but Mazda doesn’t have the money for that most likely.

Sofyan always complains about not having a touchscreen. Those are fine when you're not moving, but roads in the midwest are the reason I love the scroll wheel. I'd take it over a touchscreen or whatever Acura and Lexus are doing anyday!

So I just purchased this vehicle and I have to say it's the perfect blend of a practical daily driver without giving up the fun. It also floods where I live with bad roads so it's great for me. Nothing else really compares at 32k. (2024 Carbon Trim). My previous vehicle was a 2015 328i Xdrive. The Cx-5 was just too big for me, it looses the agility the cx-30 has. My main critique is the small gas tank. Coming from the BMW I love the fact that it isn't too premium and yet still fun, because the BMW meant $$$$ on maintenance and repairs. (Which I avoided mostly with DIY) Of course you can't DIY serious issues which is why I traded before they started.

@@stevenplace6514 I drive and track a WRX, im just as enthusiast as anyone one of you. But speaking in terms of being a real car head, Mazda CX30 turbo is wasted on such a vehicle for a few reasons mechanically.
Suspension for one is uncomfortable. The rear torsion beams destroys the handling of the car going any type of rough pavement. Its also not really designed for offroad, which mazda advertises as being capable. Its really not.
The tires is not made for this kind of power. Mazda only puts a 215 width tire onto it. With this much torque and power, the tires can't simply handle that. Plus the AWD in the mazda is more like 75% front bias. So if you really feeling enthusiastic, you'd be wheel spinning with this much torque. Even the regular non turbo version have wheel slippage when you hammer it down hard.
If i want to haul family and do everything else, i would pick a more practical vehicle that actually has decent interior spacing and more comfort. One of the reasons why i prefer the crosstrek. It is more capable offroad with better suspensions in general. The rear passenger room is just much more palpable. You can actually sit full size adults in the rear with 3 ppl. Mazda can't. Leg room doesn't exist, and no way anyone will sit in the middle with the god awful large AWD tunnel going down the middle. I have never seen an AWD vehicle with such a massive tunnel like that.
Mazda has a misleading belt line if you sat in the newer ones. Look at the reviewers sitting in them. The window has a high position and most of the reviewers that reviewed this vehicle, the window starts at the shoulder line. I never seen such a design compromise. This limits any kind of decent visibility in a vehicle.

Thats why every reviewer complains about the harsh ride in the mazda's because the suspension is just bad.

And I don't think it can feel weak when compared to that car, the Mazda3 with the 2.5 NA is actually faster (7.2s in AWD form which is heavier and has greater drive train loss) and does not have the classic 1.4 TSI turbo lag (and no one is brake torquing their car at every stop light). I've driven both cars extensively and I couldn't disagree more with your comment. Although both are great cars, I don't see where you get your information from. To me part of the eloquence of the CX30 is that is retains simple, clean, easy to read and operate gauges and controls and allows you to easily focus more of your energy on enjoying driving it. The gauges remind me more of European cars of the past, with few gimmicks; and the shifter, remaining a traditional stick is something that everyone I speak to agrees needs to remain in vehicles -- nobody like these rotary dials, and it's the one big thing I don't like about my Ram truck. And there's nothing wrong with the 6 speed transmission. I've had some 6 speeds I've loved, and had no issues with the 9 speeds I've had on our Cherokees -- they performed very well; but didn't offer the traditional sensations and sound effects a 6 speed still provides.
And is someone looking for this sort of performance in this segment -- Heck yeah! I actually had an older customer with a 2.0L Ecoboost boasting to me about how fast it was. Is it something I'm interested in myself, too? Heck yeah!

Does the CX-30 have a power passenger seat for the front passenger? Or is it just manual?

3:50 are you sure this car has 8 inches of ground clearances and 5 more inches than the Mazda3? Official website states Mazda3 has 5.5 inches. 4:12 seems like Mazda's love of skinny tires continues. A top trim, fully loaded premium compact SUV/CUV with 250hp uses 215 tires...A Corolla XSE 2.0 with 165 hp uses 225 and a civic sport with 180 hp uses 235. Same width tire as the regular non turbo Mazda3 and same wheels...and everything reminds you of a Mazda3.

Why does this guy continue to review Mazda cars? Almost every comment he makes is negative. When he actually does say something positive, he follows up with yet another negative remark. Even when he was driving and testing the turbo engine it looked like he was fighting himself to keep a straight face and not enjoy the “zoom zoom”. So disappointing.

The 2.5 L non turbo has cylinder deactivation. It runs on 2 to ZERO cylinders when cruising. This increases oil consumption and can decrease the engine life if the owner is not extra careful with upkeep.

This guy is hell bent on the idea that adding more power and speed is the answer to everything. That's simply not true. Did adding a turbo to the 6 cause sales to skyrocket? NO! And sales of sports cars have remained low for several years. People want SUVs. That's the 1 message that every manufacturer has gotten loud and clear.

Just sold a stinger and folks want performance SUV and CUV--go look at any car that sits low--the front skirts are all scuffed up.I just sold a stinger and loved everything about it except sitting too low.I would have never looked at a CX-30 if it did not have a Turbo.BTW I let the tank gas tank get almost to empty and now only use premium gas and this thing is very fast. There were a lot of porsche 911 and BMW M car owners that were in my stinger club because they did not like sitting so low and also did not like the reliability and cost of a German car.I set a budget of 50k and last year when i got a new car this mazda was not out and the AMG 45 GLA were 60k and had low warranties--stinger was the fastest thing with AWD under 50k that i could get--it just sat a little low also--not as bad as a sports car--but it is a pretty low car and it even scraped on some speed bumps.Big relief to have a vehicle and not worry about skirt or undecarriage damage.

I agree with Sofyan that the cladding around the entire body of CX-30 is quite ugly. It's the reason I have never considered looking at or test driving one. I was drawn to the CX-5 Signature with no cladding until I discovered that I couldn't get a light interior. Now CX-50 is out with the same cladding. Why????

The 6 speed is paired with the recent Skyaktiv line, which need a high rev for optimal power and thus you gain nothing by an automatic that shifts more often. The 5 and 6 are set so low that you will never use the 6'th on high ways unless downwind
