As she still works from home, I tend to commute in it (vs my truck). The rear hatch is small...but its a small car. Fit and finish are good. It is comfortable. It hauls home my regular trips from Costco. The knobs and buttons (interface) are good and much preferred.

Its good to see that these designers are making an effort for upright posture. 90 percent of new vehicles induce horrible posture with their forward-tilted head restraints. The regulations are pretty restrictive and from my research, most whiplash testing was performed with dummies hunched forward (so the head is about 5 inches away from the restraint). There has to be more adjustability to accommodate different body types.

First time Mazda owner here, having just purchased the 2022 CX-30 AWD Carbon Edition. I wasn't very happy with my 2020 TNGA Toyota Corolla SE Sedan after 2.5 years of ownership, so I traded it in for my new CX-30, & couldn't be happier. Also a great time to trade a car in, as I received just as much trade value on my used Corolla as what it was priced at brand new back in late 2019. Win-Win!

Nice review Tommy. Nice car Mazda. But I don't agree with Mazda's insistence on the rotary knob for MMI. There should be an option to touch the screen. Mazda suggesting that the knob's tactile input is "better even if it's harder to uses" (9:12) makes no sense. Harder to use = longer time distracted = less safe. With the optional touch screen, the user can decide which input is most direct (for the given task). You still look at the screen while operating the knob.
I have a 2019 Mazda3 hatch and love it! Am thinking about getting this little stilted CX30 in the future. Wish they offered red leather like my hatch has though.
We just purchased a Mazda 3 Sport Hatchback AWD. Even though it has some obvious differences, as a lifelong Honda and Acura owner (27 years) I would say that Mazda's fit and finish rivals Honda's from the 1990s and 2000s which is amazing. The paint is flawless, no orange peel, the car feels super tight and the cabin well laid out. I do agree with Tommy that the fender line could have been joined better however I would like to hear Mazda's reasoning on it :). Oh and yes, the audio is that good!
I’m trying to decide between the Mazda CX-30 premium too package vs. Mazda CX-5 Grand Touring with the premium package including AC ventilated seats, HUD display, folding mirrors. Can’t decide because the interior of the 30 looks SO GOOD and that 8.8 inch screen infotainment is 👍🏼. But the CX-5 offers more space, heated steering wheel, ventilated seats... just not as updated interior design and 7 inch screen 😔 what should I do?
Great review, and thanks for talking to Dave Coleman about the AWD system. I love that you test the cars in true off-road conditions! Driving off road, by the way, what I would really like on these cars, is a button that says "AWD off". Yes, "AWD-off" - because when you're driving into a narrow road in deep snow, there is a real risk of getting very stuck, having to call a friend (or a rescue chap, with the embarresing question about what on earth you are doing here). If you start off with only two driving wheels, at least you get a good warning. Technically, this should be no problem, shouldn't it? Possibly, only available below a certain speed.
Dave Coleman , Thank you for all the information you provide. Im about to own my third Mazda , Ive had a 6 , 7 and now a 30. My dealer is forcing the black one on me since there is no inventory.
Mazda said **** you to their competitors and brought to the world luxury and performance at an affordable price. This car looks like it could even compete against a Jaguar, too! Hats off to them.
I"m having a hard time decideing between CX-5, CX-30, and CX-50... for different reasons each. Whichever I get- I'll LIFT IT (factory lift of 1.5 inches) and put the wheels from a meridian on it (the 17" and WILD PEAKS- or maybe nitto grapplers). and make my OWN version of meridian (without the extra thousands.)
I test drove one today and immediately changed my mind about getting one. Could not get comfortable in the seat. I am very tall and had plenty of legroom and headroom, but the seat was not comfortable at all, and I was ready to get out of it after the test drive. And the doors creaked and rattled.
We have a cx3 2016 AWD and it kicks ass in the snow!¡!! Driving every day in the CA Sierra's ( back hwys) 140 miles a day. It's kick-ass on Subaru!!! Only thing wish it has Subaru clearance. If roads aren't plowed it does it for you.....not fun, low clearance. However for handling and safety on the snow it's tops. Wondering when someone will do some real snow reviews on the CX30!
Tommy, Please get a Bronco Sport badlands to test against all these AWD small SUVs. I don't think any of them can stack up because the bronco sport has a locking diff. Thanks
Does the transmission got reinforced? Looking underneath the CX30 AWD, differential and transmission looks very 'light' and looking at the efforts when you switch to AWD, not sure that will last long... do you think that is robust enough?
The actual CX-4 has slimmer cladding lmao. But it's not that tall, looks like a wagon. If VW is successful with their ID wagon maybe Mazda brings the CX-4 too, who knows.
Hi Tommy, great review first time seeing your videos and I am for sure going to be a new subscriber. I am from Canada and I just bought this car in the Turbo GT which is the top trim here. I love it, however, the only thing that I came to realize after buying it is that the ones that are sold here in Canada do not come with the chrome roof rales, or the front and 360 camera only the back camera. I have checked it out at all Mazda Canada Dealerships before and after buying it and it's like that at all of them. Would you be able to say why? if you can it would be very helpful as I would like to know why only the top trims in the US and Europe have it and not here in Canada.
Great review

really? 4 inches of clearance, let's take it off road!!!

You’re one of the best reviewer’s on RUclips keep up the deep details
Young Tommy, that overlap is part of the front crash crumbling design. Its what gives the CX30 its 5 stars ratings.
I never thought of that, but does make sense. I was thinking it was an aerodynamic feature.
Amazing video as usual. This guy gives me HARRISON WELLS vibes. Anyone?
I’m trying to decide between the Mazda CX-30 premium too package vs. Mazda CX-5 Grand Touring with the premium package including AC ventilated seats, HUD display, folding mirrors. Can’t decide because the interior of the 30 looks SO GOOD and that 8.8 inch screen infotainment is 👍🏼. But the CX-5 offers more space, heated steering wheel, ventilated seats... just not as updated interior design and 7 inch screen 😔 what should I do?
I really like the lines of that compared to the rest of Mazda's CUVs.
Love your reviews Tommy
Why won't you do this on the new CX-5 ?
The CX-5 doesn't have the same generation of AWD, the Mazda3 was the first and now the CX-30...and this one has the new off-road switch.
this is very good.
The round part on the rear tail light looks like something from Dr. Who. EXTERMINATE, EXTERMINATE.

I NEED THIS CAR!!!
Great car for the mrs... and when I need it I don't have to be caught in a subaru. Real win-win here.
Roll up windows for your music test
This is definitely on the shortlist for my daughter's first vehicle with Hyundai Tuscon and Elantra GT
Well done, great review!
Cant wait for the Mazda MX 30 electric.
Me also.......Except that the prototype does not look near as nice as the CX30....Paul
I have to correct you! In North America the CX30 comes in a 2.0L in the GX base trim and the GS and GT comes with the 2.5L
For some reason, they think North America = USA. You're referring to Canada spec
Super!! me encanto la canción . Saludos desde Puerto Rico.
RE: the fender/door/a-pillar thing - I read elsewhere that Mazda reworked a-pillars on the 6 to address wind noise. Could be an air deflection trick.
Your off-road experience would be better with different tires. This is the car that I am interested in.
Tommy,
Please get a Bronco Sport badlands to test against all these AWD small SUVs.
That's unfortunate the Turbo Mazda 3 will not have the trail mode button. I could see that being very useful in the winter on un-plowed roads.
2021 models...Narrow the side cladding down, over the wheels and below the doors. Way to wide !
And put in some serious electric power train with at least 400 km drive range.
The actual CX-4 has slimmer cladding lmao. But it's not that tall, looks like a wagon. If VW is successful with their ID wagon maybe Mazda brings the CX-4 too, who knows.
It would actually trigger the 2020 buyers If they do that...
I think theyll do it on the next facelift
thanks for this review
I wonder how The Proclaimers sound like in that CX-30's Bose sound system.
Jonathan Truong they suck, it wouldn't matter...
Mike B they would still suck.....walking not needed.
@@mezzb Well, I wouldn't walk 1,000 miles but I would walk 500 miles and I would walk 500 more,...;)
Probably like Sunshine on Leith
