    Here's why CUV:
    1. It's easier to get in and out of
    2. It's easier to load things in and out of (including babies)
    3. It provides better visibility on the road.
    4. You never really worry about scraping or curbing any of the bumpers (in most normal situations)
Hope that clears up the mystery as to why a lot of people prefer CUVs (all else being equal).

@John Q. I just wanted to know about the leg room (both front and back), looking for new car for myself and the kids, we already have an old minivan with 170k miles on it, I'm 6 feet tall, my 11 year old is already 5'3", so I was hoping for some comfortable 6 footer leg room. The only "SUV/CUV/crossover" thing that's good on gas and has 6 footer leg room is the Kia Soul. But they have a new sh|tty CVT for 2020 and I'm not going to buy a Korean car with a CVT, that's like buying a bathtub made out of cardboard. And the previous generation Soul has a 6 speed auto which is great but both engine options are self-destruct GDI engines. 🤷🏻‍♂️ Not many options. I'm not buying a gas guzzler just for legroom. I used to own a 2012 Mazda5, and for some retarded reason, they pulled the Mazda5 out of North America, I should have kept it. Hindsight. I would have bought a new one already and would not have made this comment if they still sold them here.

I really appreciate the extra ground clearance in a small suv vs. a car. If you live somewhere that gets six or more inches of snow in a single storm event, that extra clearance helps a lot! I was plowing through that deep snow in a car and getting stuck from simply not enough ground clearance. The SUV just keeps going with very little drama. That along with available AWD is why so many love the small SUV. You usually get extra cargo space too.
I sometimes miss driving a sporty car in the summer but that peace of mind in a SUV during winter is easily a worthwhile tradeoff. I just ride my motorcycle more in the summer!

    • @ghw1985

we get about 12-15 inches usually here one year we had a storm we called SNOWMAGEDDON with 35 inches ( Newfoundland Canada) and I had my Mazda 3 plow through some snow, however i am upgrading to a cx5 simply for the ground clearance because i know it would barrel through the snow much more effectively

One of the main reasons why the people are turning to SUVs/crossovers/lifted hatchbacks is so that they can see (and be seen)! Have you been in a low-slung car lately? Try seeing around that F-150 parked on the corner, or that SUV in your highway lane. Visibility is important when driving, and it’s amazing that my fav RUclipsrs fail to mention that factor when it comes to auto manufacturers & trends today.

I'll take the CX30 over the 3. One reason - being 188cm tall I find that a CUV/SUV gives me a more upright sitting position that allows me to sit a little closer to the dash and thereby gives rear passengers a little more legroom. Notice this with my current Mazda 3 and my wife's previous Tuscon and current Santa Fe.

I still like a good driving experience and my children live far enough away I'll never have to accommodate car seats so this is a really good alternative to a compact sedan or even a hatchback like the Mazda 3. Ease of getting in and out for empty nesters.

A light colored headliner makes the car feel more open. I would take the CX-30 for those two reasons.

Stay away from cylinder deactivation (or take it out for a drive where you're going 55 in 6th and the cylinder deactivation is active and make sure you don't mind the vibration). I have it in my 2019 Mazda3 hatch and the vibration really ruins the otherwise spectacularly smooth drive. Also, make sure the climate control works as it should: set the temp to 62 degrees or so and see if it blows super hot air (bad) instead of slightly warm air as it should. This is another thing that drives me nuts in my 2019 Mazda3 hatch... oddly enough it does start regulating temperature normally 10-15 minutes into the drive. Don't have this issue in my 2018 Mazda6 2.5T.

I had a 2013 Crosstrek. I bought a white SEL trim AWD CX30 this past week. I enjoyed the Crosstrek. I am loving this cx30. The acceleration is way better on this 2.5 l. I did a test drive on the Kona 1.6 turbo. What turned me off on that car was some review that said that the AWD version does not accommodate a spare tire. I am actually having fun driving this cx30. I really like the looks on this car, inside and out. The only negative I have is that the range on a full tank indicates 320 miles. My Crosstrek would indicate 420. Didn't do my homework there. I thought I had read that it had a 18 gallon tank. The specs don't mention the gas tank size on trim info. I bet the two top trims have the 18 galloon tank.

One of the main complaints on 3 Hatch is lack of space behind rear seats for people that may have car seats and and/or otherwise don’t always feel like folding them down. Ditto a CX-3 Yet a CX-5 seems too big, too much vehicle. This is where the CX-30 slots. It’s about getting the bigger storage capacity that everyone thinks they need without going with a bigger CX-5 they don’t need. It’s the Goldilocks vehicle in this regard, and the main reason buyers will choose over the too small 3 Hatch. Perhaps you guys are a bit too young to get this, but it’s the point I think you missed. It’s the main answer to your question of “why”.

@@lego4virgo It's terrible that minivans are dying out not because of a lack of functionality, but because of a ridiculous stigma that they can't seem to shake off. Something like a Mazda 5 is everything the CX-5 and CX-30 is, but better in every way. You're getting even better handling, less body roll, better stability, an emergency third row, more cargo capacity, sliding doors, etc. It's beyond me how a vehicle like that couldn't even get sell moderately.

People don't buy these for the ground clearance, they buy them because they're sick of getting blinded by lights from crossovers when driving their hatchbacks or saloons.

I have a CX 5 . Wanted to change to something smaller. Went to the dealership with a CX 30 in mind and I ended up getting the Mazda 3 hatchback . Didn't like the look of the CX 30 at all. Far to much plastic cladding and not as comfortable inside as the 3 in my opinion. Nope the Mazda 3 hatchback looks so much better. ( New to this channel and you to guys are great. Fun to watch and great reviews..cheers )

I used to be the same way, not understanding the SUV thing. Then, I moved to Texas. Here, drive throughs, bank lanes, and everything else similar is made for trucks. Not a huge deal, because you can usually go inside. The real issue is just the roads in general. At least here in Austin, there are many driveways to businesses/shopping centers and side streets that I cannot drive on with my Camry SE because the approach angle is so steep. I'll scrape up my front bumper cover either getting into or driving out of them. Even worse, some of the main roads are not totally level so the driveway and main road form almost a V shape. Then, there are roads that I cannot drive in the right lane because the storm drains have a deep cut off...the list goes on. So yes, I totally understand it. 5.5" of ground clearance is ok where the land is generally flat (the midwest) but if you live anywhere it's hilly in any sense, more ground clearance just keeps your car from getting damaged.

It's really to the point where I'm so over having to take detours so my car doesn't get torn up and get out of my car to get take out or take the night deposit every night for work that I'll probably be getting a Forester or 2022 Tucson.

Ground clearance is pretty important for people who go camping. Bottoming out in the middle of nowhere is not fun. I've also had some issues with getting to some camp spots with a sedan. A raised vehicle offers much better angles.
