A nice, balanced review, as usual. As "mature enthusiasts," we put our money down in advance more than two months ago for the fully loaded Premium Plus Turbo US version after driving the standard CX30 and the turbo Mazda 3. Closest competitor for us was the Audi Q3, but we preferred the Mazda for looks (inside and out), performance, reliability, and FUN. And the price differential -- 10 to 20 percent less than comparable competitors from Audi, BMW, and Volvo -- doesn't hurt a bit. Plus, that difference in cost only increases over time given the rapid depreciation of the "premium" brands. We've had the car for more than a month now and are very pleased with it. True, the back seat and cargo space are a bit less than some of the competition, but that's why we have an Outback. In short, the CX30 Turbo is a surprisingly sporty car that can handle unpaved roads MUCH better than our GTI but that's almost as fun to drive. Mazda hit a home run with this one!
Pretty similar situation for me! I cross shopped the 3 Turbo with the MB A220 & the Audi A3 and for the money the 3 premium plus blows the other 2 away. The MB is almost double the price for the same equipment. Sorry I didn’t wait for the CX30 now! Enjoy the car man!
Mazdas are amazing, got a new 2020 Mazda3 Sport back in August and i'm loving it. I actually remember watching one of your Mazda reviews before making the purchase, keep up the great work!
I traded in my Audi for a fully loaded Mazda3 and I regret absolutely nothing. More tech, better interior quality, and significantly less expensive! I think I'm done with the German luxury brands, the Japanese know how to achieve a superior result at a lower price point.
Andrea/Zack. This is the review I’ve been waiting for Tku! I represent that “mature” audience you mentioned . I currently drive an A3 and these NY potholes have been killing me 😖. My current tires are 225/40 R18. I need a crossover that can better handle the rough roads here. YOUR OPINION on this point is welcome. We are empty nesters so the smaller size itself wouldn’t be a problem. Also like the style more than on the CX-5 as that one is looking dated to me quite honestly. If the CX-30 is not quite up to the task.... can you recommend an alternative ? XC-40 maybe ? I was hoping to not spend that much $ on my next car but also don’t want to kick myself later for going too “cheap”.
@@tuxiekins I think you will really like the CX-30 Turbo. But, I also like the Q3 and GLA if you are interested in Luxury brands. The XC-40 is a great utility, it has a more refined and smooth drive with a quiet cabin. To me, it's not as exciting to drive as the Q3 and GLA, but some buyers prefer that.
@@andreaspencer9813 Tks for your fast response ! You guys rock !! BTW While waiting at Audi getting 2 tires changed I took the opportunity to sit in a new Q3. I like the Q3 body but the interior ...not so much. Never had a Volvo b4 but that XC-40 looks great in blue/black top. And the seats look super comfy. P.S. Vancouver scenery looks amazing !
@@tuxiekins My pleasure and thank you, glad you like what we are doing. The interior of the Q3 is pretty simple, the Volvo much more luxurious and in line more with the Mercedes-Benz GLA. The Q3 offers a little more space than the Volvo XC40, but if you are looking for a quiet and comfortable ride, the Volvo XC40 is a great utility.
I've been a fan of Motormouth for a couple of years now but adding Andrea as a regular member of the video's has just elevated the quality of the reviews as well as adding a second opinion for comparison purposes. great job on recent reviews.
We're a bit torn between this CX-30 and a CX-5. My wife loves the look of the CX-30, but with a teenager at home, the extra space in the back of the CX-5 is really appealing. What's great is that my wife was looking at the XC40 and the Q3, but this comes in about $15k less for the same level of equipment.
Buy Cx5. You love your son, right Dont stunt his growth or make him deformed by having to endure CX30, nice to look at but tight rear quarters, with gun slit windows. CX30 is bitch and pretty at the same time. Lol
I really love the CX-30 Turbo like your wife, but if your son is anything like our son's, he won't enjoy the backseat of the CX-30, it's just too tight.
This is a very inspiring endorsement of Mazda. I recently bought a CX-3 and I love it. Maybe I should've waited for the CX-30, which seems to be a bit more luxurious. Either way, you seem to share my view that Mazda has more in common with Audi and Acura than with its bland price point peers, Toyota and Honda. Mazda outclasses the mainstream.
Andrea loves quality product and comfort and reliable product in cars. Zack doesn’t care about quality or reliable product only he is after the names I am with Andrea 👍💯%. Very smart women
I’m driving a CX30 as a courtesy vehicle, while my 2009 Mazda 6 is having recall work performed, and I’m very impressed with the CX30. I agree with the gentleman though, the lack of backseat room was a dealbreaker for me, even though I don’t have backseat passengers often. There’s literally just no room. If they took everything from the CX30 and put it in the CX5, I believe it would be the perfect vehicle. I’m not a fan of the CX5 push button lock on the door handle. They’re susceptible to water getting in and creating door actuator issues. I have that same problem on my 2009 Mazda 6. The Mazda CX30 appears to not have that problem. If I could truly go without the backseat space, I would tell everyone to buy the CX30. It’s a very nice vehicle, and quite honestly, really surprised me with everything you get in the preferred trim level for around $28k.
Great review Andrea and Zack! You have to give Mazda kudos for trying to create a premium brand within itself as opposed to launching a completely new upscale brand. It definitely rivals its' German competitors!
It is awfully difficult in today’s market to stand out....and Mazda does just that. Clearly, they have evolved from their 323 Protegé years. Thanks for the video.
If I was shopping for this class of vehicle, I'd have a hard time passing by the CX-30. This, I feel is the best pick of the class. I like the styling and Interior materials. It also has the most power as well. For 5 to 6k more over the competition in top trim, I feel it's worth the small price increase in payments. I think Mazda has a potential hit on their hands here. Good review you two! 👍
I’m car shopping for my soon to be retiree parents. I had the exact same question RE: CX-30 vs CX-5. In our area with incentives right now, the exact engine and trim CX-5 is actually slightly less money than the CX-30 (both one level up from base in GS trim, both with the 2.5L naturally aspirated engine). I believe we are going with the CX-5. Shout-out to CarCost Canada, it’s been a great service for our car hunt.
The huge problem with the 2021 CX-5 and CX-9 (in Canada) is that they did not get the upgrade the US got with the larger 10.25" screen and - more importantly - the new Mazda infotainment system that the CX-30 and current Mazda 3 got (for some reason that upgrade is delayed until 2022 up here). It is so much faster and better looking than the old one that, for that reason alone, I would skip the larger CX-5 unless space was an absolute priority. I also happen to think the design elements of the Mazda 3 and CX-30 are much, much nicer looking than the CX-5.
We once had a 2001 Mazda Protege. That car, while reliable and easy to maintain, felt like a tin can on wheels. It amazes me how much more solid and premium new Mazdas feel. Great review Zack and Andrea.
@@kingkrimson8771 Well a Toyota/Lexus product from back then was as good as the new ones are today. Same with Honda/Acura. Mazda has improved which is impressive but not because of time. They improved because of the competition.

In 1991, I was deciding to buy a Toyota Corolla or a Mazda Protege. I ended up buying the Corolla, and within 3 months, the driver's side (electric) window glass came off the track. I knew at that time, I should have bought the Protege. Thirty years later, I bought the 2021 Mazda CX-5 Carbon Edition w/ turbo and AWD.
@@russclaeyborn3587 now that is a nice upgrade from that 1991 Protege. Nice choice this time! I switched teams and bought a 2020 Rav4 Hybrid for the fuel economy. ;-)
CX30 turbo is tuned for more power thru the gears. Even on 87. Mazda put a beefed up rear differential in the Turbo CX30, with more power able to flow rearward. Maybe the 2021 Mazda 3 had also been "tuned up", but I don't think so. Mpg is also better for CX30 turbo than the 3 turbo, although weighting more. Good job Mazda. Now add the cx5 Signature features to the CX30 and 3, to complete your upmarket aspirations across your line up. Cx8 and CX4 turboed to N.A, please
Have two kids bought this for a daily and have zero problems with room… bought it used 2021 with only 13,000 miles on it in pearl white🤍 $21,000 and loving every second… i love cars, but wanted something a little more fuel efficient for a daily didnt want a CVT this was the most practical choice for the money, im enjoying the drive experience way more than i thought i would…my Aunt who has a Porsche SUV thought this was a Mercedes when i pulled up😂 …my fun car is a charger r/t and doing some mods on it… This zippy thing has been perfect so far and i think it looks luxury over all the non-luxury brands in this class
The front compartment actually has MORE room than the cx5 and better storage! Back seat can fit a.6fter. Just slid front seats up a bit. Cx30.has a surprising amount of front space. Best of Mazda. Under seat foot room is good and the rear seats are nicely contoured. Head room for 6ft in rear is good too. The.Juke was narrow and short on leg rm
Ha ha. I know. The MAZAAAAAZ-DA annoyed me as well. Thou I think in the U.S. it's more MAAHZ-DA. I.E. Short A;s not long A's. At least they got the DA right.
The CX-30 has the weirdest turn signals I've ever seen. I'm sure I'm not the only one who noticed this. They're LEDs but they fade in and out like if they were incandescent?! Weird. And on top of that, the front turn signals are barely noticeable since they also function as DRLs. Check it out at 15:00. Even if you look specifically for them and head on, you can barely see them indicate! It's almost a road hasard at this point!
I think Mazda gets respected, Mazda barely advertises. Dealers order bland Mazdas. Mazda NA limits options and delets some std features. Mazda want touove upmarket. They did in 1995-2003 Mazda Millennia.
Hey guys, I love both of you ... and I also love Mazda and that car. But, I do not know for Canada, in Europe, the resell value of the German premium brands is much better than Mazda's one. Salutations parisiennes.
Bit too small for me with 2 teenage kids. Drove the cx5 the other day and am on the fence. While the interior was well built and had Premium materials it was also a bit bland to my eye. The lack of a touchscreen also bugs me. Going to try the xc40 this week and see if the jump in price can be justified.
Fair enough! You will find the interior of the XC40 quite nice and the 9" touchscreen is easy to use. It has a nice refined drive to it and a quiet cabin. You definitely sit up higher and see over the dash easily.
The problem with the CX5 is that it’s still using the older infotainment. I would choose to look at the rear legroom issue of the CX-30 as it being a CUV version of a sports car which typically have useless back seats.
I agree with you guys and even better things that it’s made in Japan 🇯🇵 and that a alone is quality and reliable product to trust Mazda 👍 is a great company and great quality product
I actually like the black rims, especially on CX-30s with black cladding it jives. However, I am still thinking twice about the Cx-30s because we live here in Montreal, and has awful bumpy roads and that its suspension isn't that smooth as many would claim. Also, another downer for me is the small infotainment display. But I really liked the over-all style and appearance of Cx-30 and excited to test drive it in the near future and see what people are talking about with driving dynamics. Also my other choices, would be Cx5, Crosstrek or Rogue.
I think you missed the #1 cross-shopped vehicle to this in the Subaru Crosstrek (2.5L) even though the engine compares more directly with the Mazda in non -turbo form. Still think it would be considered in the just under $30k price point. The Mazda still doesn't include rear independent suspension in the CX30 and is smaller overall than the Crosstrek. I'd like my CX-30 in N/A form with an manual, Skyactive-X engine (like to rev) and independent rear please - I get that I'm an outlier however especially here in the US.
Overseas Mazda cx30 has a raved about manual. All say it's the better choice for any Mazda engine. Subie is almost ugly. Bit the room inside is more than cx5.lol
I own Mazda CX 30 turbo since march 2021. And I love it. This engine has more torque than Jeep Cherokee 3.2 V6...320lb/ ft @ 2000 RPM versus 239/4400 RPM...I know first hand since we own both of them...Mazda is quicker and it has better mid range acceleration...ok...I know...Mazda CX 30 is lighter than the Jeep...but Jeep has a 9 speed transmission versus Mazda's 6...no issues with either one of them...but 6 speed is more than likely less expensive to replace than 9 speed (a friend of mine had issues with hers 9 speed transmissions ad was told by the dealership that replacement cost for 9 speed is about $10 000. And the 8 or 9 gear is achieved at high speeds like 160kms or higher .I don't find my Mazda (I drive it) transmission is hunting for gears or shudders. When you press gas pedal it just go for it...no fuss ....mid range acceleration is almost in diesel territory (for all of you that ever driven diesels). I love Mazda's steering with G-vectoring..quite precise and weighted well (to my taste). All wheel drive? 2 days ago I drove it in quite bad snow storm with 2-3 cm accumulation for probably 60 kilometers...veritable whiteouts...never...not ones ...felt the seepages (and no winter tires on), or AWD kicking in or out. Very impressed Mazda. Since Mazda CX30 does not have ground clearance to go on serious off roading, Jeep is better option...but my Mazda hit a lot of sweet spots for me...I don't care about smaller back seat clearance (only me and my wife), shorter body length means more space in my garage...i love responsiveness and a sporty feeling even though it does sometime feels a too hard on very rough roads.
@@Motormouth... Btw, it was your review of the 2021 CX-5 that caused to so seriously consider this last. We're going for the second test drive today for the Signature trim. Looking good...
The Mazda CX-30 turbos have an excessive oil consumption issue that Mazda is well aware of but they have not been able to come up with a fix as of May 2022.
I did not like the wide plastic cladding on the fenders. Opted for a CX5 100th Anniversary, very happy. My other car is an Acura RDX ASpec but my wife decided it was her car!
Considering they’re following a point by point scripted review ... I saw it more a back and forth between the two ... nobody interrupted anyone. He went “... whoa whoa whoa ...” once to interrupt because he forgot something ...
I've always been attracted to the Mazda line but recently have been with Toyota and then Hyundai for price and value. I think that gap is narrowing and Mazda has moved up in my list of preferred cars.
Do not forget . Among all other luxury car brands .You're going to have a big difference in the price of insurance . And also on maintenance costs ! I like the CX 30 , But for the small price difference . I take the CX-5 instead . I Have the CX-5 AWD 2014 GS now at 108000 KM , and Im gone a stay whit this model for next change . Excellent car Highly reliable vehicle . I recommend it .
I agree about the brown interior. We have multiple children and any vehicle that takes away the bench (instead of making captain chairs optional) or comes with only a brown/white interior in the trim we want immediately gets crossed off the list.
You would think that, but I had a 2016 mazda cx-3 for 5 years and the cladding never faded. I also thought the same with the thick cladding the cx-30 had, but after seeing it in person, it doesn't look bad at all
CX30 turbo should have gloss black outside giant plastic trim. Yes the rims do disappear with CX30 giant trim black trim. Needs the 19rims and tires from 2014 Mazda 6 GT. front brakes from 2007 CX7 turbo.
S L O W. C V T JUNK WITH 181 HP AND 3700LBS. Nice design, different. Jazzy interior. All let down by engine and trans. Ooh well, people with bad credit keeps Mitsubishi USA alive.
Awesome! As always. 👍 Trying convince my wife to buy this vehicle. She would love it! But she is probably too cheap to buy it. She drives an old Corolla. 🙄

Under seat foot room is good and the rear seats are nicely contoured. Head room for 6ft in rear is good too. The.Juke was narrow and short on leg rm
Fair enough! Thanks for watching!
lol bro how in the world did you agree to get the juke
I didn’t even watch the video. Just wanted to say that the outfit in your thumbnail is amazing, spot on.
Canada: MAAAAAZ-da
US:Moz-da
JPN: Mat-zu-da
Ha ha. I know. The MAZAAAAAZ-DA annoyed me as well. Thou I think in the U.S. it's more MAAHZ-DA. I.E. Short A;s not long A's. At least they got the DA right.
@@michaellauer6373 To me Moz-da seems correct.
I think I'm with the Japanese on this one. They probably know how to pronounce it.
It's just entertaining to hear the differences. :) Hyundai is another one. Addidas is another.
As an Aussie 🇦🇺 I get a great giggle listening 👂 to the way certain words are pronounced 🤣🤣🤣 from the USA 🇺🇸
Excellent review guys! We were considering the CX 5 but now we have changed our minds.
Thank you very much! YES, check out the CX-30 Turbo, smaller of course, but if you don't need the space, it's fab.
@@andreaspencer9813 I still love the CX-5 the best though, and every time I see one in that Soul Red Crystal, I just kind of drool when I see it!
Love the cladding .
Awesome review! Thanks for using my question for Hot Topic!
Of course, it's a great question! Thanks for watching, glad you enjoyed the review. :)
Hi team. Interesting ride. Please when showing the rear seats, also show the rear hatch open.
No bag hooks I'm hatch area. My 2010 mazda 3 has 2 hidaway bag hooks in hatch area ⁷zand security cover std.
Fantastic review guys with the result I was hoping for as I'm a Mazda fan and well worth the wait 👍
Awesome, thank you so much, really glad you liked it!
Nice review. Nice machine. I always thought Mazda gets no respect over the years. I like the way you guys work together. Thanx. 👍👍
Much appreciated!
I think Mazda gets respected, Mazda barely advertises. Dealers order bland Mazdas. Mazda NA limits options and delets some std features. Mazda want touove upmarket. They did in 1995-2003 Mazda Millennia.
Thank you very much!
Great reviews, Only thing I would like to here is performace specs 0 to 60 and the like . For myself this is important.
Hey guys, I love both of you ... and I also love Mazda and that car. But, I do not know for Canada, in Europe, the resell value of the German premium brands is much better than Mazda's one. Salutations parisiennes.
I would say that in Canada the resale values between those two are similar.
Thank you, glad you enjoyed the review!
always a great review from these 2
Glad you think so!
Thank you very much!
Love her sense of fashion 👍
Thank you so much!
The problem with the CX5 is that it’s still using the older infotainment. I would choose to look at the rear legroom issue of the CX-30 as it being a CUV version of a sports car which typically have useless back seats.
i would add a Hood Scoop to let em know its a Turbo!
I agree with you guys and even better things that it’s made in Japan 🇯🇵 and that a alone is quality and reliable product to trust Mazda 👍 is a great company and great quality product
Wonderful product!
Just the right size for ME and it offers great performance at a reasonable price.
I've got a CX-5 and I like the controls for the infotainment.
I am fine with it too.
Love your reviews! My BMW X1 lease is up in October. I love it but can’t decide on whether to get another or purchase something like the CX-30.
Save your money and get any Mazda turbo. Insurance will be less too.
The CX-30 offers so much value. Take it for a spin and see if you love this new Turbo option. I certainly do!
We're at the other end of the country, but I just wanted to let you know, that you're awesome as a team :)
Thanks for this!
@@Motormouth... You're most welcome.
Great review of the cx-30
Thank you so much!
I did not like the wide plastic cladding on the fenders. Opted for a CX5 100th Anniversary, very happy. My other car is an Acura RDX ASpec but my wife decided it was her car!
You guys have great taste, TLX A-spec and the CX-5 Anniversary, both fantastic vehicles.
Another stellar review Zack and Andrea. I would choose this CX-30 Turbo over the bigger CX-5. Can't wait for the next review on the Elantra.
Thank you so much, glad you liked it! The Volvo XC40 Recharge drops this Saturday and the Elantra the following Saturday.
Great job as usual you kids,!!!!!Thanks.
Excited to see what they do with the new gen Mazda6 and the CX-50 eventually.
I liked the blue trim better
More unique and modern. Best is cx5 Canadian 100th anniversary. Red white and charcoal. Yum!
Great review, but Zach--stop interrupting Andrea, man!
You must be single...
Andrea doesn’t strike me as the type of woman that can’t hold her own.
Considering they’re following a point by point scripted review ... I saw it more a back and forth between the two ... nobody interrupted anyone.
He went “... whoa whoa whoa ...” once to interrupt because he forgot something ...
Don't worry, she's gonna dump him like yesterday's news!
Definitely something to consider as an alternative to premium vehicles such as Q3, GLA, and Lexus SUVs.
I wonder why you don't get the ventilated seats in the 3 and the 30? I have them in my cx5 turbo.
Agreed that's a deal breaker for me
I've always been attracted to the Mazda line but recently have been with Toyota and then Hyundai for price and value.
Wow still going at 100,000 km that's amazing
Thanks for sharing, you make some good points. AND your Mazda is going strong!
I agree about the brown interior. We have multiple children and any vehicle that takes away the bench (instead of making captain chairs optional) or comes with only a brown/white interior in the trim we want immediately gets crossed off the list.
Good car overall but...I wish they would had black it out more 😏but I like the fact that it has a power lift gate....great review 👍
Thank you, glad you enjoyed the review!
Should have gone the extra inch and have hands free lift gate.
Hands free power liftgate
Mazda go the extra yard 4 once.
This looks really nice, good job Mazda, agree with the viewer on the colour combo.
You Canadians are killing me with the "Maaazda." 👍😅
lol!
Great review. Not a fan of the thick black trim all over its body. It will start looking faded in a year or less.
You would think that, but I had a 2016 mazda cx-3 for 5 years and the cladding never faded. I also thought the same with the thick cladding the cx-30 had, but after seeing it in person, it doesn't look bad at all
Thank you so much, glad you liked the review!
agree, it looks dated and does not age well.
I have a 2020 CX30 premium. Is the turbo considerably faster? Do you think it’s worth the price difference?
Love your reviews, and the Canadian content. I put in in S for SUBSCRIBE right off the bat. Thanks!
Nice ride. Do the rear seats fold down? Any chance there's a tow hitch available?
Her shoe color matches the car. That's pretty cool
Except her shoes are sole red instead of Soul Red....see what I did there?
Thank you, love red shoes & boots, they are so fun.
Mazda makes really nice looking cars.
Even more importantly, they make really well-built cars
CX30 turbo should have gloss black outside giant plastic trim. Yes the rims do disappear with CX30 giant trim black trim. Needs the 19rims and tires from 2014 Mazda 6 GT. front brakes from 2007 CX7 turbo.
Mrs Motormouth loves cameras.
Great Information on the 2021 Mazda CX-30 Turbo. What is your opinion on the All New 2022 Mitsubishi Outlander SUV?
S L O W. C V T JUNK WITH 181 HP AND 3700LBS. Nice design, different. Jazzy interior. All let down by engine and trans. Ooh well, people with bad credit keeps Mitsubishi USA alive.
I hope the seats come in different colors because white is simply not practical. I do want the top trim, too.
9:31-9:34 I'm pretty sure my man was getting a verbal smackdown during this time ;)
lol!
We are used to it...
Is the turbo engine dual injection or just direct injection. Will there be carbon buildup issues.
If the CX30 turbo comes to Australia 🇦🇺 I’ll trade my 2019 Mazda 3 Astina hatch in for it.
So fun!
The CX-30 turbo is perfect!
Awesome! As always. 👍 Trying convince my wife to buy this vehicle. She would love it! But she is probably too cheap to buy it. She drives an old Corolla. 🙄
Get her to watch the review, maybe she will fall in love with it. :) Good Luck!
Awesome review 👏👌 what are Jazz hands? 🤣 I love the black wheels! How tall are you? Back seat looks small.
Thank you very much, glad you enjoyed it! Zack is 6 feet tall and the back seat is small.
Mazda CX30 needs minimum 3" added to wheelbase. Then add 2" to rear. See: Mazda Cx8
It's used in a type of jazz dance in classical dance training:)
I really like your « night life moment » 👏👏👏
Really enjoy your videos. Your partnership and "bickering", "fights" 😉
Glad you enjoy it!
Thank you!
Nice review! Just seems like he talks over her many times.
Excited about he 3 & 9 heated steering wheel? My 2016 Hyundai Tucson 1.6T Ltd has 80% of wheel heated as well as front and rear heated seats!
Great value! I am a little surprised my Mazda's decision on this.
Mazda is barely in 1993. Key features for N.American markets
True, lol. Manual drivers seat in top Mamzda cx30. FAIL!!!
Getting famous off of comments day 255, so I can live the dream, live every day like it’s your last🤙🤙
Hey 150k subs, congrats, now you have to eat avocado on cam 😅🥑
Oh yes, it's coming, releasing the video on Thursday! :)
So Mazda cx 30 is Mazda 3 underneath . Right ?
