The lady vanishes: Whatever happened to Heli Munroe? (2007) - The Fifth Estate

  • In November 2005, Sandy Munroe kissed his wife of more than 40 years goodbye. Heli Munroe, who had Alzheimer’s disease, was leaving their Nova Scotia home to have lunch with her brother who was visiting from England. Monroe would not see his wife, again for almost two years. Heli’s brother, Marek Pospieszalski, took her back to England with him without telling Munroe.
One year after her disappearance, Monroe launched a publicity campaign in a bid to convince many politicians that his wife was kidnapped by a vengeful family member, and that government inaction prevented him from bringing her back.
Hana Gartner and a Fifth Estate team tracked down Heli Monroe's family in England and spoke to them.

If your in-laws were talking about taking your husband and he was not of sound mind you would probably do the same. Correlation is not causation refers to the inability to legitimate a cause and effect relationship between two events. If you watch the end of the video you could see that the woman was in an assisted living home which wouldn’t be better than in your own home and she obviously knows nothing about where she is or who is around her.

I agree, and I believe that it can go both ways, strong enough emotions remain, often confused but I definitely agree that strong negative emotions are retained. My mother had Alzheimers and she had experienced some awful neglect in her childhood. This became very evident as her memory declined and she became like a frightened child needing comfort but, on the positive emotional side she would always always remember my father’s name, she forgot her children exactly in reverse order so as the younger child I was “lost” first and my older brother last. It was very sad, but also fascinating. I find this story distressing and believe that her son is speaking the truth about the situation. As for the husband, surely that she’s being looked after by people who love her and only want what’s best for her is the most important thing, and not that he was tricked and that’s what seemed to upset him. He, I believe knew where she was, she wasn’t kidnapped and it was a rescue.

Sandy is a narcissist , and like all narcs want to head off witnesses at the pass, he stated "I don't want Rory disturbed", then casts a disparaging remark about his son having mental issues. Then he practically jumps out of his chair when he finds out that lady interviewed Rory.
      It was an epic scene.

I HONESTLY think he was 1) FLOORED that the programme had ACTUALLY found him, and 2) EMOTIONAL because, for whatever their problems were and are, he DOES love his son, his blood, and he feels HORRENDOUS that things are this bad -mostly because of his own self and 3) he might even have been hoping for some conciliatory message from his son -even the smallest fraction of an olive branch for him to grasp -and clearly there was NONE. I feel sad and sorry for him. There is still life before you at 62, and clearly he has much to learn and a good ways to grow emotionally, not least of which is that being CONTROLLING will NEVER keep ANYONE close to you.
