This is my favorite Admiral's Uniform, The Snaps really make sense since Gene dictated that there should be no visible closures on the uniform in TNG.
Yeah, the snaps really helped hide the zipper (at least most of the time).
They should have kept using the Season 1 Admiral’s style all the way through, or at least into the second or third year. I actually think there was a futuristic sleekness to the Season 1 and 2 standard duty Starfleet Uniforms that the later uniforms lacked.
I like all the TNG-era admiral uniform styles fine, although I do agree that fewer changes would've been less "jarring." There was a lot of "disconnect" with the non-jumpsuit uniforms for a while.
Apparently I have strong enough feelings about this that I'm posting this in a 4 year old video: It's Br-OH-ch and not Br-OO-ch not because it's a valid modern pronunciation of the oo but because either through the word being taken whole-cloth from another language (likely one of the many older types of French before French got merged) without alteration of the spelling to make more sense for English or the word was put into spelling at such an early era of English that it's just what stuck. If you read a letter written in say, 1550, the words are pronounced in a way a modern ear will understand but the spelling is batsh*t insane.
Also, anyone who would wear a Brooch as a normal (not costume) piece these days will say br-OH-ch and likely because they are part of a continuous legacy of wearing such in fashion (older middle class English women, for example). A sort of mini oral tradition that predated the several attempts to standardise spelling for English.

Curious about the pleats on the lower edge: are they actually pintucks? Looks like they're sewn using a chain stitch (one thread on one side and two or more on the other side)?
Hmm, I'm not familiar with pintucks, but these just look like normal pleats to me. And it doesn't look like a chain stitch because the multiple threads are on BOTH sides of the seams and pleats, not just one.

Brooch and Broach. 2 different words with different meanings but sound the same. Just like if you polish a car but would get slapped if you pronounced it the same when talking about ordering a Polish sausage.
I really didn't like the first two seasons uniforms. They looked cheap and were not very flattering.
Yes. My man. I agree. This uniform doesn’t help in the flattery. Too busy for me.
I used to dislike them too, but they've grown on me a lot the past few years. Perhaps William Ware Theiss' designs are an acquired taste?
ONE OF WORST DESIGNS EVER. NEVER PUT THIS ON WITH A WEIGHT PROBLEM. THATS MOST OF THE STAR TREK FAN DOM. NICE VIDEO ANYWAY.
Haha, I used to hate this particular uniform, but it's grown on me a lot. Now I think it's kind of brilliant in its own wacky, tacky way.
Very few STAR TREK uniforms are flattering on an overweight person, but this particular one isn't near the top of my list in that regard. The actor who played Admiral Quinn was fairly heavyset, but in his case removing those lower front pleats probably helped.
