Hi I've been a health care assistant in a private home for 2 years now (started on 1st week of pandemic) and I'm now moving on the NHS. Thank you for being the few for talking about the role and answers I've been looking for before I start so I have comfiedence and I have an idea of what I'll be doing on my first week xx
Hi Danny! Thank you for being one of the few that provide valuable insight on this role :) I'm currently based outside of the UK but hoping to immigrate soon and take up HCA work. I've seen many sites mention NVQ level 3 diploma in health and social care but would a QLS level 5/ CACHE level 3 diploma in the same suffice when applying?
Danny, I have tried applied to be become HCA nurse. I know most of the staff at the hospital. At the moment I am currently doing a course in health and social care level 2. I have look after my late mum 18 years from mental to physical health, also I have got hands on experience.
Thanks for the update. I am a nusre but i want to work in a care home that do not require ielts. I did all my training in english language i want to work as a health career. Mrs Mojisola ojo from Ilorin in Nigeria.
I had one day training 😂😂😂 I’m on the nhs bank though. Going to enquire about further training cos I really don’t feel confident at all. I’m a student nurse too
hi I’m taking a gap year while applying for medical school and I just received an interview from an NHS blood + transplant centre to work as a HCA. I’m very excited and really hope I get the job as it’s exactly what I’ve been looking for to do during my gap year
Hi bro you speak so clearly and so formal, I wish that I could present my self the way you do. I’ve recently applied as an health care assistant apprentice crossing my fingers I get the job :)
I am an international student I am doing master's program I want to know how to start a care home job and which agency would be better to start a care home job please help me
Sir I'm Abhishek from Delhi India, I have 4year's experience in patients care Attendent care giver, and I have degree, how to apply for job in abroad, please 🙏
Hi my question to all people who can guide me please i just started the course of certified Nursing Assistant in Dubai i dont have any medical backround my graduations is simple in economics and other subject should i continue the course or should i leave or with this course any future for me?please reply any body have idea
Hi I did interview and they call me after 2 hours and they said I succeed in but it’s almost 10 days I am waiting for any call or email from nhs but noting yet ,is it normal???
Hey Alex, there are pros and cons to both ! Private hospitals usually have newer/nicer working conditions and tend to be quieter. Often patients have to have quite a bit of money to pay for private so it attracts a different type of person. NHS has a wider range of departments to work in, more opportunity’s to progress, serves everyone that needs it and because of that you see a wide range of patients representing the entire population ... and this last point is one of the reasons the NHS is special (for me at least!). Hope this helps 😊
Hi Danny, thank you for this video, it was very informative and you have addressed a lot of concerns people might have had with regards to the HCA role. I wanted to ask with regards to shifts, are they assigned to you or do you get to choose your shifts? You mentioned that you worked 38 hours a week (3 days/week). That being said, did you have any particular week that differed in terms of structure, i.e., you had a morning-afternoon shift but not a 12-hour shift? Also, would you be able to negotiate shifts on certain weeks? I am personally doing an online course that takes place [a] during the weekend (Fri-Sun) [b] happens once a month (so, one weekend a month) [c] is from 3pm-9pm [d] spans over period of 6 months. Do you think this might cause a hindrance and if so, should I mention this in my interview?
Thanks Clive 😊 I don’t see this being a problem ! In the trust I work in you can request 4 specific days to not work, this helps people sort out childcare commitments and studies ect ... Yes, some people do half days in the mornings / evenings 😊 I would let them know at the interview, it’s always better to be transparent so it doesn’t bite you in the arse later 😂 but I shouldn’t think it would be a problem !!! Hope this helps 😊
So am an apprentice,so for one month you could do so many hours and get 3-2 days off from long shifts 7- 7.30 or there's shorter shifts but it means you gotta catch up. so the evening would be 7.30pm - 7.15am in the morning it depends.
@@DannyCountyI’m doing the same right now Danny, I’m currently doing 30 hours with NHS and I mentioned this before getting the offer only being able to do certain days. They were able to accommodate me to a certain ward with my availability and as I’m studying I’m only doing “fixed days”. Yet despite this, I can’t help but feel guilty haha. Hoping it doesn’t cause any animosity with other staff.
@DannyCounty ..Hi Danny, If a foreigner comes to NHS for HCA role, is there any scheme to find out accomodation within the NHS. Also, is NHS charging for accomodation and if so, how much...Thanks in Advance
I did my interview and I got a conditional offer! I sent my documentation and now I am waiting for an update. how long after the interview did you start working?
I am doing level 3 in health and social care at the moment and I was wondering if you can advice me what steps can I take to become a nurse ? What road can I take next ? Thank you 🙏
Hi Adome Zewdu, To be a nurse in UK 🇬🇧 you need Nursing degree from University. Or be qualified in another country and apply for NHS a job. 😊 Hope this helps
Thanks for making such an informative video for us. I am currently working as a Health care assistant at an old age home in my country, India. How can I apply as an HCA for the NHS, in London? Please help me out🙏🏼
Absolutely 😊 be a sponge and try to learn from everyone around you. Don’t worry about feeling out of place as everyone does at the beginning ! There is nothing you really need to read before you go ... as they will show you everything when you start 😊
Very informative. Thanks a lot. I have numeracy and literacy assessment on the 1st of Feb.for HCA and interview on the second if I’m successful with numeracy and literacy. I don’t know what to expect for the maths any tips. Do I need to get 💯 in both to proceed to interview. How is the interview. Is it hard
No it’s basic maths and English. Just to check you can understand the meaning of words, can spell correctly and do basic multiplication and division. I would maybe do some math practice as it will make you feel more comfortable in the test but you don’t need to get full marks 😊 good luck I’m sure you will be fine 🙌🏽
Yep ! Although you still have to do the Nursing degree ! they also have progression to Band 3 nursing associates, for those who only want to study part time and work still 😊
Can you work as someone in there early 50s with no experience to been a health care assistant. That's it not a nurse just that. Never done it before. And worried about the maths side will you get help with that. I'm not great with Maths at all.

@@DannyCountybut now it's becoming so hard the program. I actually started the course before three weeks and unfortunately I failed the first course exam. Based on the Alberta government hca students must get 70% each course. The qualifications that I got 7 canada bench mark language and after that the college test me the accuplacer qualifications, but Actually that was really hard.
Very informative, best wishes on your journey! My stepdaughter is currently doing a health and social care qualification at college, she’s 16...would she be old enough to apply for an HCA position?
I think the age requirement is 18, this is for safeguarding reasons I imagine (its not safe to leave anyone under the age of 18 alone with a patient in their eyes). Sounds like you have a daughter with a good heart and any department in the NHS would welcome her with open arms when she is old enough to apply !

The majority of shifts are 12.5 hours. There are places that are not open 24 hours and therefore don’t require such long shifts 😊
Join the NHS bank and you can do 4, 6, 8, 12.5 hour shifts
