For people that don't think he is answering the question, he is. He is making a similar point that C.S. Lewis is making in Mere Christianity: "We do know that no man can be saved
except through Christ; we do not know that only those who know Him can be saved through Him. ...There are people...who are slowly ceasing to be Christians but who still call themselves by the name: some of them are clergymen. There are other people who are slowly becoming Christians thought they do not yet call themselves so. There are people who do not accept the full Christian doctrine about Christ but who are so strongly attracted by Him that they are His in a much deeper sense than they themselves understand. There are people in other religions who are being led by God's secret influence to concentrate on those
parts of their religion which are in agreement with Christianity, and who thus belong to Christ without knowing it. ... Many of the good Pagans long before Christ's birth may have been in this position. And always, of
course, there are a great many people who are just confused in mind and have a lot of inconsistent beliefs all jumbled up together. Consequently, it is not much use trying to make judgments about Christians and non-Christians in the mass." Mere Christianity, p. 64, 208-09.

@@evansamuk5240 two reasons. 1) as the quote says, “we do not know that only those who know Him can be saved through Him.” I myself believe that all people, either in this life or the next, will recognize Jesus as the only begotten (meaning of the exact same quality) Son of God and therefore enter into the Kingdom of Heaven. Many early church fathers also believed that the lake of fire is used to burn all of that is not of God away so that all that remains of god can enter into His kingdom. That being said, we don’t know that for sure. So I don’t want to risk it.
      2) I have lived life with Christ and life without. I can tell you that for my experience, a genuine life WITH Christ is far more fulfilling and enriching than anything else because at its core it is a life of self-sacrifice and service. I truly want all to experience that freedom and fulfillment that I have had.

Sometimes, I don't know what to think anymore. It's like I'm in a crowded room where everyone is yelling at me to believe in something..... I know that's just a metaphor, but that's what it feels like..... I have had experiences that DEFINITELY point to something beyond the grave, but the idea of Hell just sickens me..... I already became "saved", but now..... It's just up to people who believe in "once saved, always saved", and those who don''t..... Not only that, but I've got to contend with other people who would say I'm going to Hell..... Islam, Christianity, and Judaism..... Imagine people from all three trying to witness to one person.... What a mess.......

    • @reedplaysgames
      @reedplaysgames 3 года назад +4

It’s easy to get caught up in all the mess of people telling you what to believe, I say think what you want to think, if something about God troubles you, then reconsider if the belief causing your troubles is true. In my case it is the belief that Hell is a burning pit of fire where atheists go and are tortured for eternity, and I’ve seen a lot of people try to explain this, but the answer for me is simply that atheists don’t suffer eternally and that saying that they do and just being ok with that is immoral and highly questionable. I have another idea of hell and I personally subscribe to the belief of Christian Universalism. It may not be what my parents believe or what my pastor believes, but it’s good enough for me. I suggest that you discard other’s opinions and see what you personally think. If you don’t agree with my position on Hell then that is perfectly fine by me, I’m not trying to be an evangelist here.

I've really been struggling with this problem for a long time. For many people, it's not a matter of simply rejecting the invitation Jesus extended everyone; it's a matter of not even KNOWING the invitation was delivered!!
I live in japan...My wife is Japanese...She is a product of her culture and her environment....Jesus and Christianity is simply not something that Japanese society revolves around like in our western cultures. My wife is a beautiful, loving, caring, and very moral person...Her parents are the same. They live by a moral code that exceeds mine and they are good people in my eyes...
Her grandmother died at age 102 years old. She spent her entire life-giving to others, working the fields, growing vegetables, and just being a simple, wonderful human being who never treated anyone with unkindness...The way Christians say, "No one comes to the Father but through Jesus" and then qualify that by saying, you must confess that you believe Jesus is Lord, repent sincerely of your sins, accept him and then live according to his example....If you don't you're going to go to hell...
That makes me feel incredibly sad and I resent that message Because of all the beautiful people all over the world who live in alternative cultures. It makes me struggle to feel that God is just...Surely all the circumstances of where we are born, our religious environment, and our ability to even comprehend the implications of our actions, regardless of religion, MUST play a very important part in our final salvation prospects because life is just so unevenly spread and there are so many factors involved in this life we are all trying to make sense of...If Jesus is the only way to salvation, why doesn't God make sure that every person on earth RECEIVES and understands it at least once in their life so that they have a chance to exercise their free will in relation to it? This ISN'T the case...Little children all over this planet die in complete isolation from this message...it's not right!
It hurts me to hear Christians preaching..." God gave us all this one life to either accept or reject his love and be saved through Jesus Christ! Our choice will affect us for eternity!" and yet when you hear the testimonies of people who have come to Christ the stories are so varied and there are so many uneven factors involved that it seems to make God out to be cruel if their black and white biblical narrative is so literal...For example...say we have a guy in America who has lived his entire life prior to being saved, taking drugs, and being a hedonistic selfish person who hurts others, and then one night he has a personal encounter with Jesus which transformed his life and he is born again...And then you have another guy doing the same things in another place but Jesus DOESN'T come and reveal himself to him...he dies of a drug overdose and that's his eternity decided...Or The man in India who grew up in a remote Hindu village. Lived as good a life as he could according to his understanding of life...died having never known of Jesus' promise and HE goes to hell too...where's the fairness and justice in this?
Although it is great to hear of people being saved, many never get that personal encounter with Jesus even when they're wanting it. Many never get the depth of understanding to ever fully know the actual gravity of their actions and the consequences for them and it seems cruel that some ARE given enlightenment from within a position of sin, while others are not extended the same opportunity to understand and be saved..Like for example, you might have a loving, caring, moral Muslim, who never hurt others and who always tried to treat others with grace and kindness. Born into Islam, they die in an accident or as 'collateral damage' in a drone strike, but according to the uncompromising version of salvation preached by MANY Christians, they miss that window to salvation, while the one with the joystick that killed him gets saved...There are literally hundreds of factors that they seem to refuse to acknowledge because of their literal interpretation of scripture and this makes me incredibly sad for all the wonderful non-Christians I have seen out in the world who are living often to a higher moral standard than many of the Christians preaching this message...The message they're pushing seems to be a hard sell, sales pitch for Jesus that lacks a depth of compassionate understanding for the reality of life for MANY on this planet...
If accepting Christ's offer of salvation is the only way for any of us to be saved from Hell, then why have so many died without even knowing about that offer??? This seems cruel beyond comprehension! How about Moses and Adam and all the old testament saints like Abraham etc who are said to have made it to heaven BEFORE Jesus came to earth? Jesus said "NO MAN COMES TO THE FATHER BUT BY ME" because living a moral life according to the law alone is said to be not enough to cleanse one enough to be with GOD...How then is this not applicable to all the countless saints who are in heaven without Jesus??
I'm not trying to be provocative or offend GOD...I'm just being honest about what I feel in my heart...

    • @B10401
      @B10401 3 года назад +2

I appreciate the honesty, and have similar thoughts.
It must be that God's perspective is completely above ours, and I'm not using that as a means of saying "your problems with my interpretation of scripture are due to your limited perspective". I think our limited perspective could also cause our interpretations to be wrong. I get so distraught with confusion that I think my only option is to live as Jesus did, giving myself for others, and praying in Gethsemane that God forgive our mistakes when sharing our interpretation of the Bible.
I read articles like this www.desiringgod.org/interviews/why-do-you-believe-that-infants-who-die-go-to-heaven , and to an extent apply it to people who have never heard Jesus' name. It's hard for me to avoid the pride of thinking I have it figured out while also avoiding the pride that says no one else has it figured out. So I submit imperfectly to the wisest most Christlike (but still imperfect) teachers like Piper and the sort. Sometimes even stuff he says seems to fly in the face of logic.

@Lord Cobra There are Coptic Christians in Egypt, Maronite Christians in Lebanon, Armenian and Assyrian Christians in Iran and Turkey, and even Catholics in Saudi Arabia (an estimated 1.5 to 2 million) even though it is illegal to be one. That one is born into a culture means nothing as long as one seeks the True, the Good, and the Beautiful. Do that, and one will find Christ.
_what reason would you have to convert to Islam if a Muslim tells you to read the Quran?_
I have given the Qur'an the same opportunity as I did the Bible, for I read both. It had nothing to do with where I was born, for my family was not religious. My father's only 'religion' was the US Marine Corps. I have had Muslim friends and coworkers, I have discussed the Qur'an with them.
The differences between the Qur'an and the Bible are stark. The Bible is far deeper, stronger, and interesting, much more alive, than is the Qur'an. That the Bible was written over many centuries by about forty different authors in different empires and yet has a single narrative, a single message easy enough for a child to live and deep enough for adults to learn from all their lives and which betters those lives the longer they study and live it, seems to be a consideration most atheists do not think about.

      @mensetens6391 5 лет назад +1

@Lord Cobra _not really the Bible is filled with scientific errors it says the earth is only 6,000 years old_
This is actually beside the point, which is that I would probably have been a Muslim had I been born in a Muslim country. That there are millions of Christians in Muslim countries shows that this blanket speculation is probably wrong. But about your assertions which you do not support:
      1. Would you quote the Bible on the age of the earth, please? I think you will find it rather difficult to point to any passage of the Bible that does that. Bishop Ussher did, in the seventeenth century, but my understanding is that his writings are not the Bible.
      2. 'Scientific errors' in the Bible arises from the false idea that the Bible says anything 'scientific' as we know 'science' today. It does not nor does it even intend to do so. As a result, this assertion is wrong.
      3. _was created in 6 days_
No, and we've said this for a long time. This is from Origen of Alexandria (AD 184-253):
_For who that has understanding will suppose that the first, and second, and third day, and the evening and the morning, existed without a sun, and moon, and stars? And that the first day was, as it were, also without a sky? And who is so foolish as to suppose that God, after the manner of a husbandman, planted a paradise in Eden, towards the east, and placed in it a tree of life, visible and palpable, so that one tasting of the fruit by the bodily teeth obtained life? And again, that one was a partaker of good and evil by masticating what was taken from the tree? And if God is said to walk in the paradise in the evening, and Adam to hide himself under a tree, I do not suppose that anyone doubts that these things figuratively indicate certain mysteries, the history having taken place in appearance, and not literally_

Shouldn't that tell you to pay attention to what the Bible really says (instead of reading atheist websites and just repeating what they've told you? How is parroting a secular preacher any different from parroting a religious one?)

    • @mensetens6391

@Lord Cobra _the Bible is not gods word it was written by man_ Not exactly:
'The word of the Lord came to me...' (a common prophetic description)
_All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching...and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work_ (2 Timothy 3)
_For prophecy never had its origin in the human will, but prophets, though human, spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit_ (2 Peter 1)
So why can't it be both? Your assertion sounds like a False Dilemma fallacy.
_the people who wrote the Bible thought the earth was flat_
That does not matter, for the Bible was never intended to be science. I believe that we've had this part of the conversation before.
_we know Adam and Eve mythical people there was no first human_
Back in 2001, Brian Sykes wrote _The Seven Daughters of Eve,_ in which he showed that mitochondrial DNA analysis says that all people in Europe descend from seven women. If seven, then why not one? I think that you simply don't trace your history back quite far enough.
_It also is true that if you add up the whole timeline in the Bible you will basically get a 6,000 year old_
the bible doesn't have a 'timeline,' nor did you show one. It has 'generations,' but these are not literal, merely showing family lineages, which were important (as they were to, say, Socrates, who mentions them several times in the platonic dialogues). It was the family that was important, not the actual people. They were members, not the totality.
_There was also never a global flood either Noah’s flood is anything and it was also plagiarized from older stories_
Of course not. Read what I quoted about early Genesis (of which the Flood is a part). The point of the Flood story is not the Flood. It's not even the ark. The Flood story is Mesopotamian. What Genesis says with it to the Mesopotamians is, 'It's not the way that you think. You think that it was an act of capricious gods' [which was their belief, actually]. 'God took that flood and gave you the rainbow, showing you that it will never happen again. So be at peace and do what is right.' The point of the Flood story is the rainbow. The rest of the Bible follows from that.
The Bible has a single narrative that culminates in Jesus and his proclamation and example of the Love of God. All through the Bible God works in and through his world and his people. Augustine said, 'Without us, God won't.' You are made in 'his image.' This is what that means. The Bible says, 'Get to bringing God's order into the world's disorder.' Or as someone said in secular tones, 'Be the change you wish to see.'

I watched both my parents die neither of which where Christian. I chose not to become a Christian because I didn’t want to believe that the people I love the most in the world are burning in hell for eternity. I wasn’t raised with the believe and nobody I know has those beliefs. I don’t want to believe everybody I love is going to hell. I wanted to honor Jesus and loved the idea of being a Christian.. I love everything about it but I totally disagree with that. I would never believe that my beautiful mom and dad who where the most kind hearted loving people in the world are down burning in hell burning for eternity. Honestly such a manipulative religion. Makes people who are not Christian feel completely judged for their own personal spiritual path. It’s our own personal relationship with our creator and we should never feel judged for what we choose to believe in.

Then, we are automatically Baptized in the Holy Spirit, who seals Himself into our soul until the moment we receive our Glorified new body upon 'Rapture'.
That moment we believe is usually not deliberate. It is more of an AHA moment. Accepting or believing may seem arbitrary, but it is important to take our human gruntings out of the equation.

Jesus plainly stated that "Those who believe will be saved, but those that believe not are condemned already because they have not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God". THAT statement from our Lord pretty well sums it all up. You either accept Him and do your best to obey his commandments, or you don't. It's really that simple. As to arguing what way is the right way, again I quote Jesus: " I am the way, the truth, and the life. NO man can come to the Father except by ME". That sums it all up, NO exceptions. There is no other way to God except by Christ Jesus. All other religions want you to earn your way to God, no man can ever do that. We are saved by Grace, not deeds. Jesus paid the price for yours and my sins on the cross. Jesus said you have only to believe, and you will be saved by his Grace.

I am an ex Christian and now an agnostic atheist. One problem with Christianity is the unclear path to salvation from hell. Most Christians claim salvation is by faith in Christ but that ignores many Bible passages where salvation is by works. Elaborate theories have sprung up to consolidate these but in the end, it’s just an interpretation. There’s no guarantee of salvation from hell.

Ephesians 2:8-9 “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith-and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God-not by works, so that no one can boast.” When you are born again, your heart is changed to do the good works that God wants you to do. The reason why I’m replying to you now. Please reconsider and trust in Christ again. You were made for a reason, to love others, to love your creator and to learn for what’s next in your eternal life. God Bless you.

@@AbdulH97 DNA isn't perfect, it's just good enough. There are numerous conditions humans suffer as a result of errors in DNA. DNA is extremely complicated however complexity is not indicative of design, in fact, one could argue that a hallmark of good design is simplicity. In addition, recent studies suggest that most of the information within our DNA is "useless junk" that can negatively affect us. We also identify design by contrasting it with what is naturally occurring. We know that books are designed and created because we can demonstrate that the only way books are created that we know of is by human interaction.

Throughout your time in Earth, you use your God given free will to seek God and build a relationship with Him...or you dont. And when you die, God resoects your choice to be with Him or not. As far as those who haven't heard the Gospel... Romans 1 talks about how God is revealed to all through his creation, and 2 Peter and Rev. 3 :20 talk about how God is willing that all should know him. I believe he seeks those who won love with access to the Bible and persues them with love.

Hell is the ultimate fairness really. If God is all that is good and right and light in the world then hell would be an absence of all of that. You can see it here in our world in placed where you can just see evil and the first thing people wonder is "where is God in all this".
You spend your life rejecting God and telling him that you don't want or need him. At the end of your life you go to hell (a place with an absence of God's goodness and light). You get your wish, you spent your life wanting nothing to do with Him and as such he has enough respect for your choices that he allows you to spend the rest of eternity without him. If he forced you to go to heaven and spend eternity with Him, would God not be violating your freewill? Wouldn't that be a kind of hell for you even then, being in the presence of a God you spent your life rejecting?
You may have choices, but there are consequences to some choices that you can't avoid.

So unless one knows correctly all there is to Know about Jesus He can not be freely rejected.Do i know why Jesus who created everything created evil (Isaiah 45:7) and allows suffering, which of course He also created, do you, does anyone. That's an interesting take on it Kiel Hawkins. Very Scientific really and unbiasedly Philosophical. Kind of reminds me of the scene from Devil's Advocate, with Al Pacino, where he talks about God and his own role as the Devil.
Kevin Lomax: "Better to reign in Hell than serve in Heaven", is that it?
John Milton: Why not? I'm here on the ground with my nose in it since the whole thing began. I've nurtured every sensation man's been inspired to have. I cared about what he wanted and I never judged him. Why? Because I never rejected him. In spite of all his imperfections, I'm a fan of man! I'm a humanist. Maybe the last humanist.
There are a few rebel interpretations like this, that take a completely different approach to the whole "God vs. The Devil" and Satan's actual role in the grand scheme of things. Christians and Muslims and most religious types have one single interpretation of how things went and how they are now. They categorically refuse to look at ANY other option, but the one that fits their bias. If you actually read the Bible or religious texts, with no bias or preconceived notions, you can see a different picture. These fools, can't even read between the lines, or even look at how other cultures, who were never exposed to this nonsense have a completely different view of things.
I certainly cannot disagree with your approach here, because unlike these cognitively dissonant types, you are willing to look at alternate approaches and the reason I liked you comment and said it was more Scientific, was because of the darkness vs. light thing. What is darkness? Absence of light, that's all. It brings about fear and unknowing, cause we can't see anything, but does that mean darkness is inherently evil? No, not at all, it is merely unknown. You can view religion the same way. Fear of the unknown, so we reinforce what we "think" we do know. It doesn't mean it's right, it just means we lack further understanding.

I don't think all religions are equal but if one says you must believe in it or you'll go to Hell and another says that you must believe in it or you'll go to Hell then does that mean you go to Hell for choosing wrong? Perhaps, but I hope not. If God is indeed merciful he surely wouldn't send people to Hell for picking the option they hoped would save them from Hell. You will most likely be the religion that your parents are or the main religion of your country and different religions have different ideas. If you were sure that your religion is true but picked another one anyway then that would be wrong but if you're just trying to avoid going to Hell by sticking to the religion you're sure is true, and that religion turned out to not be the true one then surely you wouldn't be punished for that? It's easy to say "People not of my religion go to Hell" but better to say "Please Lord save everyone no matter which religion is true". All things are possible for God.

Like whether God INTEND Satan to reach Earth and sabotage it? What Adam and Eve DID have knowledge of, if they did NOT have knowledge of good and evil? Whether they even KNEW at the time if they could have children? And might affect their free will?
If the Nephilim were REAL or not, and why they would be able to exist at all. What impact they had on tribes scattered since Babel, added to fact that thanks to Eve, humans seem UNABLE to see disguised fallen angels, or God HIMSELF. And how much of nature Satan is permitted to control?
Some of these things may well have been touched on, but it seems very delayed before they are actually detailed, far from the original events.

I think a better question to ask Christians is “Is it fair that only believers in Ahura Mazda go to heaven?” Asking Christians if they believe it is fair that only Christians go to heaven assumes that Christianity is true and that they are going to heaven.
If Christians found out they when they died they were in the Zoroastrian hell would they calmly assert “oh well I guess I spent my life willfully denying a relationship with the one true God who I knew existed, I guess I deserve hell” or would they say, “wait, what? I never heard of Ahura Mazda, Zoroastrianism is an obscure religion why didn’t you make it more obvious?”

    • @rageforthemachine

H R38 There have been billions of people in the last 2000 years who have never heard of Jesus or the Gospel. There were billions more who heard the names but never had a defense of the Gospel or reason to believe presented to them. There was a time when Christianity was new and barely known by anyone. According to you that doesn’t make Christianity any less true and all those people are still going to hell. So how popular a religion is is completely irrelevant to my question.
But if it is the numbers that bother you chose a more popular religion. You have heard of Allah and Mohammed. If you does and woke up in the Muslim hell would you accept that you had willfully denied a relationship with the one true God if the universe, or that circumstances in your life had led you to follow a false religion?

    • @rageforthemachine
      @rageforthemachine 5 лет назад

H R38 Sorry, but you can’t have it both ways. Either Jesus is the ONLY way to heaven, in which case your God has condemned billions of people to an eternity in hell without ever having given them a chance to escape it, which means his neither omniscient nor omnibenevolent; or Jesus is not the only way to heaven in which case the entire pretense your religion and belief is based on goes up on smoke as well as your desire to believe you have a special relationship with the creator of the universe. You have to pick one. Most Christians I have talked to seem just fine with the former view as at least it assures them a place in paradise.

To make such an arrogant statement implies that it is POSSIBLE that Islam is the one that is Right and Christianity could be Wrong. Anyone who makes claims that they are "Right" are admitting that they could be Wrong. +glen allen Hell Doesn't Exist. It's not eternal, but it's effects are eternal as a passage in Malachi says. Jesus spent 3 days in the belly of the earth, not hell-the Bible didn't say he goes to hell. God's own testimony on himself says that he wouldn't do anything that wasn't just or righteous? Is Eternal Hell Just? When comparing hell to heaven, Jesus didn't use the word 'eternal' for both, but 'everlasting' for hell, and 'eternal' for heaven. Don't they both mean the same? No, otherwise Jesus would of said the same. Jonah wrote, after spending 3 nights in the belly of the whale(See the contrast to Jesus?), wrote about how it felt like an eternity that he was in there. Consider this as well, if the punishment for sin is Eternal, then Christ(who spent 3 days in the belly of the earth-unspecified location), hadn't paid the price to it's fullest, and therefore, we would all be doomed. There are many more scriptures going against hell, and those that go for it can easily be resolved and do not contradict. -Jude said "the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah are set forth as an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire." Is the Eternal Fire still burning Sodom and Gomorrah today? Obviously not, so what then is meant? It means that the effects are eternal. I have more scripture if necessary

If you cannot believe that you are not the highest authority that exists, then you can never except the terms that God has laid out for your surrender. If there is no surrender then you cannot enter into His kingdom. Everything outside of His kingdom in eternity is hell, the complete absence of light/good/love.

    • @cullenc9982
      @cullenc9982 2 года назад +1

That is a great point and a reasonable question. So for one, I'm not so sure some of the things we do to each other are finite. Some evil things people have done leave life lasting (and perhaps afterlife lasting) effects. If someone was to murder a person, the family of the victim would be damaged for generations. If a child is molested, then it scars that child for life, and nothing the molester could EVER Do could make that right. Nothing. the pain and damage is too deep. If a gay person is persecuted as a teenager it leaves life lasting pain and suffering. There are many people through out history who have done much much worse than these things. It's honestly hard to imagine how much pain has been done by people like Hitler and Genghis Khan to people. So....What is God to DO? (half a rhetorical question, half a real one) My second point is that I would assume God is the best and most good a being could be. (If he isn't, Then really he isn't a God worth believing in and if he is real and not the best then the devil is right, and we are all doomed anyway) SOO if God is the most good, then it would be unreasonable to believe that any person could be more merciful than he is. Therefore, what ever hell is, it has to be more merciful than what you could imagine. I hope this was helpful. if not no worries, I hope you have a good one

I believe even CHRISTIANS can go to hell. I started a ministry for children in a small town. The important woman of the town was someone whose blessings I asked for support. The woman treated me very badly and slandered me regularly. She was over many charatible accounts but would not give me a dime for crayons, paper, books although the money was donated to help poor children. Not only that- the woman ASKED for donations from people who met at my business just to discuss events! I had no idea what she was doing with the money. The trouble she put me through brings tears to my eyes now- ten years after! I closed the program after 4 years because of lack of fund and help. The woman asked me to help her campaign for mayor. The wealthy people paid her money to run and divide the vote. I helped her because I didn't understand what was going on. After she lost that night I was crying when a voice told her to give me $30,000! I could not believe it and sat staring at the ceiling. I looked at her and she was also staring at the ceiling! She had heard the same thing. It was strange and scary. One my way home I asked God why had he asked the woman to give me money when she did not even want to buy my students who had helped her a pizza! I prayd for her for years because I believd she was not going to died in peace. The day the woman died I heard strange things like utter confusion and alarm around me, like people arguing and fussing. I knew it was her. Later I heard a woman screaming that she wanted water! Water! Water! I truly believe that the woman did not repent or change her ways and that her soul is in a torment chamber somewhere in Hell. I am one of those weird people who often see angels and have visions since I was very young. It is important to live in a state of repentance, and to love God and not money.

Christians should never embrace false religion simply to be accepted. We should never embrace false love either. The love of the world and the pleasures of the flesh and the pride of life are not of the Father but of the world. A true Christian stands for truth, and will not comprise on truth regardless of what the world thinks, or whether or not it might offend someone. I would never be pressured into accepting or promoting coming together with the world in harmony at the expense of giving people the truth. A Christian should always be willing to stand for truth whether that means persecution or not. People don’t like hearing the truth, they would rather hear an empty meaningless message of compassion and false humility, as it tickles their ears, and appeases their sinful nature, this is an easy thing to do as it goes along with the status quo. However telling people the truth, that Jesus is the way the truth and the life and through Him you can be free of sin, and live in communion with God in peace joy and love for humanity is the most loving caring and kind and compassionate thing you can do, but it’s hard to hear and is not a popular message in today’s world which tells everyone they can do whatever they like. Telling people that to do this you need to turn away from sin, crucify your flesh and turn to God, is not a message the world wants to hear, but it is the truth. If you turn to Christ he can heal your soul from the sickness that is our sinful nature, but the cost is everything. Our whole lives must be turned over to him, our whole being, but it is truly the only thing worth anything in this fallen world. Only once you’ve experienced this can you understand. Before God revealed himself to me, I always considered myself a Christian, however it was only when I experienced his incredible love and communion with him through the power of the Holy Spirit that I actually became a Christian and was born again. He loves us all so much, and wants us all to turn to Him, but he’s also just and cannot tolerate sin in his presence. To know him is to know the truth as He is the truth. I know this makes no sense to people who have not had their spiritual eyes opened, but I do hope that it reached someone who needs to hear this.

This is a great question, and a natural one for both believers (Christians) and unbelievers. Tim Keller did not give a Biblical answer to this question. At first glance, this is a tough question, but when you read the Bible and find out who God is, that He is holy, holy, holy and that we are not, that all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God, then the question is quite simple. “Fair” would be for God to send every person who has ever lived to hell, because again, all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. So the question is not is it unfair that some people do not go to heaven. Rather, the question is why don’t ALL people go to hell. Furthermore, as you will discover by reading the Bible, God is the one who gives faith and determines who will believe and who will not believe in Him (see Ephesians 1and 2, Romans 9, in particular). That He has mercy on some but not on others is entirely His prerogative, and He acts in the way that brings Him the most glory. As Romans 9 says, will the clay say to the potter why did you make me this way? God is sovereign, and can and does do as He pleases with His creation. To Him be the glory! Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved.

  • @TheRootedWord

Dr. Keller has gotten it all wrong. Relativism is untenable and can easily be logically proven. Holding to a specific religious view can also be proven, though not so easily. It requires addressing that religion with respect to its own internal coherence and consistency. Then it requires evaluation of its message compared to the messages of other religions. It cannot be dealt with in an evening sitting with water and trying to entertain an audience.
He has not dealt with the underlying problem of this other Dr., since he says he gets it but still disagrees. That means it is not an intellectual problem, but an emotional one. For that, there would require some personal probing, which might be better done in private.

I'm not sure what you think it is that I don't really care about but I'll take a shot at it.
I was raised as a Catholic and went to Catholic school for about 6 years.
The Pope, the Cardinals, the Bishop and Arch Bishop generally go to Catholic Mass and receive Holy Communion every day. They also go to Confession frequently, many go every day the way the Pope does.
Since knowledge of what was happening to kids in Catholic schools was known at the highest levels and that known predatory priests were simply transferred to different parishes where they knew unsuspecting kids would almost certainly be abused I can't help but wonder what in the world those Cardinals and Bishops and Priests actually were confessing to.
How could they be praying at their humble bedsides with a crucifix and holy pictures on the wall when at the very moment they are praying kids were being molested?
People do care. Although it is still mind boggling that an entire country like Ireland ( a significant number of our priests in the US were Irish ), has turned away from the Catholic Church. Laws regarding abortion, gay rights including gay marriage ( Ireland was the first country to vote yes ) and even voting married gay Prime Minister in a country like Ireland is astonishing and mind boggling.
In fact, the Irish priests didn't even have Irish brogues, they had Gaelic accents that people from the "Gaeltach" - the Irish language speaking western parts of Ireland have.
The Irish built and dominated the Catholic Church in practically every major US industrial city - Chicago - Philadelphia - Boston - Pittsburgh - Baltimore - St Louis - Milwaukee - Cleveland - Buffalo - Detroit and countless other smaller but equally industrial cities that made the US into
the most powerful industrial country in world until China and other countries started to overtake us.
I knew and heard about "de-pantsing" in the Catholic school schoolyard sometime around 6th grade and I heard some jokes about priests but I had no idea how bad it was.
An incredible amount of evidence ( that supports my "conspiracy" theories ) was locked up and sealed in Boston and Massachusetts legal testimony. The legally entered evidence was the basis for significant amounts of money paid using non-disclosure terms so that this evidence would not be made public and future abuse could not be prevented.
Why do you thing people don't care or do not get outraged?
That just covers the child predators. I had no idea what "the word of God" had to say about slavery. Catholicism is built around the authority of the Pope who is a living representative of God.
The concept of the Bible as the "word of God" is lacking in Catholicism. We don't read the Bible and like most Catholics I never knew what the Bible said about slavery, even in passing references until a few years ago.
I didn't know there were passages like there are in Timothy where slaves and slave masters are spoken to directly. When I read those passages the Bible that I was holding almost dropped from my hands.
I don't really care???? I was speachless then when I read those passages and I am still stunned and outraged. I don't even know if I want a Bible in my hotel room when I travel. Maybe I should take it out of the hotel dresser and leave it in the bathroom. I don't think kids should read this book as the Word of God. It should be read with strong disclaimers. It was used to justify slavey in my country and countless others. I suppose you could say the Bible comes off smelling better than Mein Kampf or even Das Capital but the fact that it was used to justify 350 years of brutal slavery in North America and even longer in the Spanish Empire and that slaves could be literally worked to death ( as long as they weren't beaten or whipped to death ) is practically perpetually shocking to me.
But you say I don't really care.

actually i have similar question with David before i become a Christian. i disturbed by my friend keep telling me to receive Jesus to be saved. i think if that's the answer to be saved then i will let my family first go, then i maybe only after everyone saved, i will be the last to go. isnt it? why should be hurry? i think what kind of selfish religion is Christian. i dont want to be one. then one day i read the bible a lot, find that Jesus died for people who should be taken the punishment, He has no guilt but love us so He gave his life on the cross for the guilt. that moment i said to myself that Jesus must be God.. maybe i dont want that kind of selfish religion but i cannot resist this kind of unselfish God. then i pray receive Him into my heart. then God make everything for me to grow in the knowledge of Him in the church He lead me to. and now i can see more about Christianity that i used to see as selfish religion. its not selfish anymore i see it is more to love by grace. im still learning a lot but i do believe that Jesus Christ is God. my Savior. and i dont want to let go, *with His help in everything. Praise the Lord.
but now im wondering where is my concern for others that have not saved yet. this concern is not as strong as when im not believer. maybe because im already saved. i watch this youtube remind me maybe at that time i resist Christianity strongly is because all i care is also myself only. and now is still care for myself after i got saved i didnt do much for other unbeliever. i thanks God revealed to me about this n pray God will help this

its always entertaining to see a video like this with a very intelligent and philosophically brilliant guy lay out some very rational and pressing subject matter and have the only responses be something on the lines of: "I don't believe in unicorns or flying spaghetti monsters so why should any of this rational and profound logic have any validity, or for that matter why should I even attempt to address it, further than saying I disagree"

It's entertaining to see people like yourself imaging this guy is brilliant. He literally equivocated like a total coward the whole time. The Bible doesn't even present eternal conscious torment as an option. Only lying preachers and their foolish audiences who NEVER read their own book believe that.
