I went to a Korean festival last year. I tried 떡볶이 and 만두 for the first time. I’ve been obsessed with Korean food ever since. Once at H-mart, I greeted the 할머니 at the checkout register. She was so happy to see a black girl speaking to her in Korean. I’m not fluent, but I enjoy learning different languages so I can connect with different people and cultures.

That’s exactly how people who react in Korea also! I have seen some videos of expats living in Korea about seeing signs that says ‘no foreigners’ on clubs and bars (which makes me mad) but tbh it’s not common and it’s only in those pretentious establishments like clubs and bars that do that. Normal restaurants and merchants would greet foreigners with open arms when You say 안녕하세요..!

I am so glad I discovered you site. When the pandemic started I found Kdrama and progressed to Kpop. I live in a senior community and while my friends were suffering from isolation, I was immersed in Korean culture. I feel I came through this period unscathed and I owe it all to the Korean culture. You web site has offered an even more informative look at Korea, thank you.

Even though I'm in my 60's I'm a young minded person. I started watching Kpop & Kdramas maybe 6 years ago, as well as Korean TV programs with English subtitles, and I love them. I've learnt a lot about Korean culture by watching all these types of things and listening to people on Korean talk shows and also following a Korean/Canadian couple who are married & live in Seoul and post about their every day life. I find the Korean culture very interesting, and I've had Korean homestay students when I rented out my bedrooms in Vancouver. I want to come to Seoul for a visit hopefully next year if the quarantine period is no longer required of course, so I'm interested in learning what would be helpful for me to travel there. I found your channel today and have watched a couple of your info videos and find them insightful & helpful, so thanks for making them.

Hi I'm from Greece and Korean interest came into my life 2 months ago when I first saw a Korean series. After 2 months through many series and movies, interviews, shows I found this very nice and I respect it a lot was that Koreans are kind people and respect their culture as in my country. Now from you I see that the family also plays big role, children in both countries live with their families or have closed relationships😊
I also really like the fact that they are very hardworking people that sense their left me , I found the food interesting too and also the language although it will be very difficult to learn it without help......
I enjoyed your video even though it came about by accident☺

Hi Danny. Great content as usual. I think I speak for most of us when you feel like family from all over world. Sometimes its just observations in life we’d just talk about over coffee 🙂. Thank you for addressing that it’s ok and appreciated for a foreigner to take part in some of the Korean manners and conversations. I was felling I would wonder if they were thinking I’d be mocking etc. Like example: when I ask you if your healthy and have you eaten…it’s in all sincerity and Ive learned it’s importance etc. 🥰👌. Yes Ramen can be such comfort food lol. Take care God Bless.

I think food is the first love of every korean person. 😄 ❤️
The fact about the trends really amazes, that how quickly something trends and everybody follows it, either it's food, clothing, hairstyle or something else.
The fact about living with parents before marriage is absolutely normal. You maybe surprised to know that here in India, even after marriage, living with your parents or In-laws is quite normal.
A human is same everywhere in the world. They all cry and smile and love. It's just their culture and beliefs that makes them different from another. And then it's u who decides either to be a good person or a bad one.
Again got to know some interesting and fun facts about your beautiful country.
Will be waiting for the part-2 😁.
Thank you so much for sharing. Have a good night and a lovely day tomorrow. Take care 💜

Thank you for all the context that really helps me understand a lot of what I'm watching in kdrama and Halleyu. And once I can finally travel to South Korea I can be more respectful but also less sensitive. I would say in America McDonald's is ramen equivalent. Everyone eats McDonald's, no matter how rich or how poor. But will often say things like well I guess we're just eating McDonald's for the week because it's considered an inexpensive food. However, we do have an extra layer where it can also be a bad connotation as well, and I don't think 라면 has that. It was very informative that I'm glad I'm a subscriber to your channel.

    • @ThizisDanny

라면 could also have a bad connotation actually ..! It can be said like “will you just live eating Ramyun for the rest of your life?” meaning you need to make money but rarely used

My comment might be awkward after all the wonderful ones about your culture, but I feel I have to get it out there. Your voice is very, very soothing! (it's not the spicy food, I've watched other videos as well) I could listen to you forever.
Nice work. Keep it up. ✌️

This is my first video of yours I've seen, only found your channel yesterday, gotta say you have a super soothing voice!! Loved the vid btw, all really interesting facts, and cool to know some of them when I plan to travel later this year :). It blows my mind that you can leave belongings without fear of them being stolen, so cool. I'm currently learning Korean and it made me really happy that I recognised some of the text on the video too :)

It's same in India. We stay with our parents in our 20s here too. Though the American influence has started to reach here and nowadays, some people in their 20s have started to look for their own place. But still staying with your parents is more common here.

We always eat while drinking, we always said that will go on the diet, women cut the hair and make it curly, we are proud of our country even that the politics broke us, we live with our parents until marriage, we follow the trend, we love to try new foods and we even love to eat Korean ramen. Those are similarities for the things that you mentioned in your video but I’m sure that are more

Would really love to see part 2!! Your video made my day🌻I am really looking forward on my journey to corea, hope it works in the next two years and in the meantime I have to keep an eye out for a Korean restaurant in Vienna, because in the countryside from Austria there is none 😢...and the tteokbokki looks so delicious... I don't know if someone say it before, but thank you for your thoughtfulness for people who don't hear you. I think the most common food in Austria is Schnitzel and Palatschinken and In my opinion the most of the young people want to leave their familiy in the middle twenties. oh... and i think how you looks isn't such a big topic like in corea, but thats my own feeling and i am sure other peoples think in another way.

I want to visit South Korea because two years ago I saw a travelvlog of a really good cook and in his eyes the corean kitchen is one of the best in the world. And so i'm interessted more an more... I don't know why but Seoul is one of the city I have to see in my life (Barcelona an Rome are the other - and the are also really great!). But there a soo many places which are interessting, that I'm not sure i can see all in the three weeks I've planned😅 but i've another two years for planning...🙃

Hey Dan, I am now a follower, (and subscriber), since I remember you with Jinakim(?) once, few months back.
I appreciate you get these basic stuff conveyed to us _ 2020 opened many doors for many of us, (as it closed some, but woke some who lived unconsciously) and for me KR was one of those new interest and to the point that I started studying the language (I am not good at all, but can read and still practicing) and love to come there_ I can do that, but I researched a lot on how to move there (retire there).
I know it is a huge task and getting Alien Card (or Green Card, as I call it) is not easy. That said, if you have the time perhaps a vid. on apartment rental and ins and outs of it, like the down payment (I know there is a name for it, it scrapes me) or regulations...In general, any information you or others (on YT) provide I try to watch and take note_ Keep on going, my friend_ I appreciate you......Oh, my handler name is just b/c of Bae Suzy (don't laugh, I can dream, right?)_ Peace to your
