The Break Up song was their 2nd biggest hit. When you hear it you'll literally be thinking...They don't write them like that anymore! Seriously, you have to hear it and that's what you'll be thinking afterwards.
The Breakup Song is the quintessential power pop song and I'm a sucker for power pop!
I see what you did there 👍
Yeah! Love that song!
😂 You ain't lyin!' I'm listening to THE BREAKUP SONG right atm, & as I'm leaving this comment I'm already thinking that
🎶"they don't write em like that anymore"!🎶 💔
It's a Great Song, very nostalgic, and sets its own vibe, it always puts me in a zone, probably most well known song of theirs, imo ❤️ ✌️
This song, "JEOPARDY" is funky and catchy too but it's just not got that
🎶BOMPA BOM BOMPA-BOM-BOM-BOM!🎶
‘The Breakup Song’… Definitely one of my all time favorites 💯
Interesting fact. Greg Kihn appeared in Weird Al Yankovic's parody of this song, "I Lost on Jeopardy". He is the only artist (that I know of) who ever appeared in a Weird Al video that parodied the song that same artist sang. Just goes to show what a fun guy gret is. As for the band, they really only had one standout hit apart from this, that being "The Breakup Song (They Don't Write 'Em)". "Lucky" was also a good one.
there is someone slse who played guitar on there own song of Al's parody but can't remember who it's on his VH1 behind the music
Mark Knoppler
Yeah, definitely check out Weird Al’s “I Lost On Jeopardy”….once you see the original version, Weird Al makes you laugh
This is a great song, and I Lost On Jeopardy was such an awesome spoof! I hope they react to Weird Al before too much time passes and they forget the original. X)
@@steph990 you should do that for all of Weird Al’s music!!
Weird AL Yankovic did a cover of this called "I lost on Jeapordy". You really need to check him out. You guys would love him! 😄
Greg Kihn appeared in that video, the only artist ever to appear in Weird Al's version of the song being parodied.
I keep asking them to do Weird Al Wednesday where they watch the original and then his parody, but apparently the people don't always get what they want 🙂
@@DerekScottBland I am surprised, I don't think they done 1 weird al song yet
I can’t help but sing Weird Al’s version when I hear this song.
@@WhatAboutThemApples - they haven't, I'm wondering if they're just hearing "parody" and thinking it's gonna be really bad. Al is a national treasure that's widely respected by his fellow musicians, many of them feel honored when he parodies their material.
I lost on Jeopardy… baby
Love the weird Al parody
@@dennytate26 Just too obvious! I took Poupouri, for $100!
@@alhollywood6486 lol What I love about weird Al's video is he had the original Jeopardy announcer Don Pardo. Now tell him what he didn't win, he didn't even get the life time supply of Rice-o-Roni or the Turtle Wax
DUDE I WAS LITERALLY JUST COMING ON HERE TO COMMENT THAT THE WEIRD AL VERSION HAS RUINED THIS SONG FOR ME BECAUSE I CAN'T SING IT ANY OTHER WAY!!!😝😝😝😝
I don’t think that Jay & Amber have done any Weird Al yet. I bet they’d enjoy it. Amish Paradise!
Another song that came out around the same time as "Jeopardy" that has a big time fun and funky edge to it was "Goody Two Shoes" by Adam Ant. The song was a big hit on the Billboard charts in early 1983, the video was hilarious and he became a major heartthrob. Amber and Jay, if you liked "Jeopardy" (which is great) you would love "Goody Two Shoes". Adam Ant was part of the New Wave movement in the early 80's after MTV debuted (along with other artists like Duran Duran and Culture Club).
Adam Ant would be awesome to check out. My favorite is "Stand and Deliver". J and Amber....it's time for some Ant Music!
I like "Desperate but Not Serious" by Adam Ant. It's got a killer horn intro and some humorous lyrics.
@@johnwood9504 yes! Great forgotten song from Adam Ant. IMO he's a really underrated artist.
I've been looking for Adam Ant reactions and can't find any. I loved him back in the day. I'd love to see ya'll do Strip It was another great one by him.
"Goody Two Shoes" was 4-5 years earlier, but I agree, they should check it out.
Haven’t heard this in a minute! Never realized how funky it was!
I know I don’t remember it being that funky sounds darn good 😊
This so reminds me of my teenage years.
Now when I hear this song I keep hearing Weird Al singing "I Lost On Jeopardy"
Ikr to both 😁
As a kid back then, I thought he was saying "a love in Japanese, baby!"😆🤣😂
Weird Al's version was
"I Lost on Jeopardy".
Ther definitely need to listen to it too!
Next you got to try: The Tubes - She's A Beauty
Both are 80s classics.
Agreed. I've seen it suggested before. And, I've even recommended it personally, but I think my suggestions wound up in the "round file". LOL
Yesss!
80's videos are just silly and bizarre. And that's why we love them. In the 80's videos defense, it was a brand new genre. There are always growing pains when something is so new.
Drew Barrymore and Hugh Grant were in a cute movie called "Music and Lyrics". He played an aging 80s pop star, complete with "authentic" 80s video. Catchy +Cheesy +Bizarre = 80s perfection 💙
Good reaction! I first met Greg Kihn when I was in college and he was a struggling musician working a day job in my favorite record store. I won't say we were pals, but he always was helpful and steered me towards some good albums. Two or three years later, he was having top ten hits and being parodied by Weird Al Yankovic.
CONGRATULATIONS! After almost 20 months as (at least in my opinion) RUclips's most consistantly entertaining music reaction channel, you've featured a band of which I have never previously heard.
The Greg Kihn band song “the breakup song” is my favorite song from them.
To this all I hear these days is is Weird Al's Parody "I Lost on Jeopardy"
To me the must hear classic song by Greg Kihn Band: "The Breakup Song" - FULL LENGTH VERSION
this song charted on Billboard Hot 100 on January 29, 1983 and it peaked at number 2 for 1 week and this was there biggest hit and it was there 7th chart single out of the 13 they had they charted between 1978-1986.
Their* biggest hit
My birthday!!!
Their 1985 song "Lucky" was a nice track too.
Oh my gosh! What a great pick! I haven't heard this in sooooo long. I love it!
I always liked this song, haven't heard it in a long time ✌❤🎶
I always get this song and "Living Like a Refugee" mixed up in my head for some reason.
Hey Amber and J. I came across your channel a few days ago. I said to myself, "I gotta subscribe!". Love the fact that you give some in depth thoughts and feelings in your reactions. I'm 71 and was a working musician for most of my life. I'm very familiar with most of the songs you are presenting and your reactions are spot on. Keep up the good work.
You should go back and watch some of their older videos and see how much they have evolved in their appreciation for music especially from the 60s 70s 80s and '90s!!! These two kids are the most genuine reactors that I've come across on RUclips!!!
you'll love them!.!!
Welcome, Don.
They are honest and real..
Love them both..
Love their channel. It was Jay's first reaction to a BeeGees song that got me hooked.
Greg Kihn Band - The Break Up Song! Is the Biggest Hit!
as an aussie 1983 i bought a compilation album called keep on dancing and this was on it and heard it on the radio oh i miss my teen age years
You'll have to check out "The Break-Up Song" it was their other song that was popular back in the day.
Love their song "The Breakup Song."
Sometimes I feel really old when I listen to a song and realize what year it was released.
The best song, signature song, biggest hit by GREG KIHN BAND is THE BREAK-UP SONG
The Breakup Song is an all time favorite here.
After the Fall - JOURNEY 1983 is one of this groups finest piece of creative sounds of the 80s that not a lot of radio play but wait till you listen to it and it's a hidden gem 💎
This dude was absolute fire for about 6 months. And then never heard from again.
Also had a big hit with "Breakup Song," but you're right, that was it.
He was a DJ up until 10 years ago.
NEED to see weird Al Yankovic‘s I lost on Jeopardy
Haven't heard this in years, still sounds great
This was the BEST dancing song in the 80s. Great times
This video came out in the early days of MTV and was one of most popular music videos of the time. It's part of the reason people (especially the youth) wanted MTV.
The next songs you need to hit from The Greg Kihn Band are "The Breakup Song" 🔥 (make sure it's the full 5 min 20 sec version), "Reunited", "Every Love Song", "Can't Stop Hurting Myself", "Madison Avenue Man", "Valerie", "Happy Man" and "Remember". Weird Al also did a parody of "Jeopardy" called "I Lost On Jeopardy" and Greg Kihn himself even made an appearance in the video! 😎
A song of theirs just as much a great vibe is "THE BREAKUP SONG". Both huge 80's hits!!
I CAN'T HEAR THIS SONG WITHOUT SINGING THE WEIRD AL YANKOVIC VERSION OF IT...
"I LOST ON JEOPARDY, BABY!"
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
GREAT CHOICE AND GREAT REACTION ROB SQUAD!!
Greg Kihn has been a Bay Area institution since the mid 1970s. After the heyday of the band, he was a local DJ for a long time and has written books as well. The big white church exterior we see at the beginning and end of the video is a gorgeous, old Catholic Church called Mission Dolores in San Francisco. This is where my parents were married. The interior shots were from a Lutheran Church named St. Matthew's.
I grew up in the Bay Area and agree. Greg Khin is definitely one of us. Love his music, loved him as a DJ. Just a good guy. The radio station was in San Jose CA and I loved it when he played his own music and would say " Greg Khin, playing Greg Khin on the Greg Khin Show!"
@@anthonysteinberg4853 Kihn.
Been a long time since I heard this great song.
This is a banger!!!💥💥💥
This is what 80s music was!!!
Pure dance funkalicious!!!!
I graduated in 84,and this decade of music is 🔥 📛 !!
Hall and Oates,Duran Duran,Madonna, Styx,Cyndi Lauper, J.Giels band,Prince,MJ,Frankie goes to Hollywood, Oingo Boingo,Robert Palmer,Genesis, Heart,The Bangles,Culture Club, Gap band, Zapp band,Toto,just too many to mention!!!💯😎
The funky keyboard in this song is a clavinet.
I always considered this was one of the best hits of the 80s.
Ok…here’s a NEW ARTIST ALERT (at least for you guys)…and it’s Paul Young !!! You’ll absolutely fall hard for his smooth delivery and tone. Take your pick of any of these songs: Wherever I Lay My Hat, or Every Time You Go Away, or Come Back and Stay, or…Love of the Common People. All great songs. Oh, almost forgot…he is also featured on Do They Know it’s Christmas, which I believe you’ve already done! 👍
The Rob Squad reacted to 'Every Time You Go Away' 11 months ago. If I recall correctly, they were only lukewarm about it. Personally, I've always enjoyed the song.
@@neptune9 Ugh…I did a quick search that didn’t pick this up. I listened to their reaction and is was fairly good, calling it blue eyed soul, commenting positively on his voice and his free spirited stage presence. Seems like they’d enjoy revisiting him at some point. Thanks for catching my miscue. 👍
Definitely need to hear some more Paul Young. Some amazing sounds to be had here.
Not too many other hits--"The Breakup Song" and "Reunited" are the two top ones.
You should really really do Wierd Al's "I lost on Jeapordy", right after this one. The contrast in videos is great. And the changed lyrics are a hoot.
This was the biggest hit for Greg Kihn Band, and it was a slow build: The group released nine albums between 1978 and 1986, and didn't have a hit until "The Breakup Song (They Don't Write 'Em)," which appeared on album number six. "Jeopardy" came on their eighth album.
An early MTV classic! Always loved this song.
Must great having so many people give you great songs from all eras its awesome
I'm one of the millions of 80s babies- 'Jeopardy' was a song that both of my parents were automatically into and I'm certain I got into it well before I could talk or even remember! lol. Its a fantastic song even though it truly is about the pitfall of the bad parts about marriage- I'm an amateur writer so I tend instead to visualize real good crime drama shows or movies to it instead. I even converted to Mormon for one of the reasons why I cannot stand the idea of ever getting divorced for a source of wisdom against pitfalls. Fantastic 80s masterwork. 😮💨👌
Greg Kihn was funny. All of his album names were a conjunction with his name in it like "Kihnspiracy" and "Kihntageous" .
Awesome song back in the 80's it was always was on MTV 😁
You need to listen to I Lost on Jeopardy by Weird Al Yankovic.
Greg Kinh was my local morning rock radio DJ for the first 20 years of my life... He exposed me to rock and all the classics. Glad to see him getting some more exposure!
Donnie Iris - Ah! Leah is a very popular 80s song with an awesome beat both Rock and Rolly and Funky it's dedicated to a beautiful girl named Leah in 1981 classic just like this jeopardy song it's got a catchy theme sound to it
You have to check out the Weird Al version of this called "I Lost on Jeopardy". Weird Al is thrown into Greh Kihn and his bride's car at the end of the video as she is popping that champagne. ruclips.net/video/BvUZijEuNDQ/видео.html
I always sing “I lost on Jeopardy”. Thanks Weird Al. 😂
Another 80s gem that ROCKED dance and disco floors (had a Slammin’ 12” mix also). Funny how not many are not familiar with this HIT
I was 6 when this came out and would sing “OUR LOVES IN JAPANESE” at the top of my lungs… 🤦🏻♀️😂🤷🏻♀️
😂
This was in the MTV rotation back in the day. The Break up Song, very well kmown. Love your hair Amber. Thanks again for this memory.
My husband used to road manage Greg and his band. Greg is a sweetheart of a guy and a brilliant raconteur. Rock on!
This song sounds too fun for what the topic is, ha. Always thought the Greg Kihn Band had a unique sound that stood out in the early 80s. Loved this when it came out, still love it nearly 40 years later!
I forgot about this song. Thank you to the family member for the request and to the Rob Squad for listening to this. Why aren't they playing this on the radio anymore? 🤨
" The Breakup Song " is also great !
Their debut hit single “ The Breakup Song” is just a great Rock’N’Roll tune. Worth checking out
New artist gift for you both. Boom Crash Opera singing "Onion skin". Much love from Australia 🇭🇲
They are from my town. I used to see them all the time in the clubs back in the 80's. Loved them. Such a blast from the past. Thank you so much.
Get it guys lol ... this one's a funky banger for sure ...thank you !
I loved 1983. So many hits came out that year, infact I recalled there's three years in a row 1982, 1983 and 1984, that were like a musical boom. But 1983, is dear to my heart.
Good that you listened to their 2nd biggest hit first. You'll appreciate their biggest hit (GREAT song) even more.."The Break-up Song".
I hope they listen to it. I've suggested it in the past and again. They don't write them like that anymore 😉
The Break Up song was really good. You know come to think of it...they just don't write em like the Break Up song anymore!
Great song from a very underrated band. Their other guy was called “The Break Up Song” which is also great. In honor of the movie “Weird” coming out last week, you could react to Weird Al and his song “I Lost On Jeopardy”. Hilarious and Greg Kihn has a cameo in the video…
Saw Greg perform this song at a Stones concert in Seattle in 1981 when he was one of the warm up acts along with the J. Geils Band! I think he's pretty much a two hit wonder but I enjoyed this song and your reaction! New artists, Amber? "Try" by Blue Rodeo and "Hello" by Walk Off The Earth featuring Myles and Isaac!
One of my fav Greg Kihn Band songs. Other favs . . . "Reunited", "The Breakup Song (They Don't Write 'Em)", "Valerie", "Every Love Song", "Happy Man", "Love and Rock and Roll", "Lucky".
great sounds great live band
I love this song and listen to it every day (along with "Oh, Sherry" by Steve Perry). This is an amazing groove. Good memories associated with these. To be honest, I didn't know it was Greg Kihn until fairly recently, but it came on the radio and I was transported back 40 years and found a new appreciation for it and Greg Kihn.
_The Breakup Song_ is another one of his bangers!
Greg Kin Band - The Break up Song is another 80s popular song
I saw Greg Kihn LIVE many times in Marin County in the 80's. He was a great club/dance band.
Next song I suggest is "The Breakup Song (They Don't Write 'Em)" by The Greg Kihn Band.
Yay! So glad you did Greg Kihn. Break-up song is another good one by them.
We always used to sing, "I lost on Jeopardy...baby." Kids! Ha.
They don't write em like that anymore. Great song. Now that you are familiar with some of these song would love to see your reactions to Weird Al's parody.
All right my babies.... You most definitely have to rock out to this song... no questions asked ‼️🔥💯😁👍🏼
The Breakup Song, another popular one by the Greg Kinn Band.
Oh yah! I've been waiting for this one! He's really good. You need to do The Breakup Song by him, it's another good one.
@@surlechapeau They just rang the bell and said it was a new artist.
@@gypsyrocker my bad, wrong channel
Left the wedding in a hearse!!!! Hilarious !!!!🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Saw the Gregg Kihn band back in the 80s at immigrant lake near Ashland Oregon for a Fourth of July celebration and it was amazing especially a great live show!
One of my favorit songs, from the 80's.
This video gives you a real good idea of what was shown 24/7 on early MTV.
My grandmother is the dark haired lady with glasses and tan dress in the front row of the church... it was filmed in SF
Only one hit kept this song from #1 in May of ‘83 on Billboard top 100 and that was Beat It.
San Francisco Bay Area band Greg Kihn Band were viewed as a kind of indie/new wave band in the 80's. This tune got heavy play on rotation on MTV back in the day; and as noted below, spawned a Weird Al parody that also got heavy airplay. One thing for certain, Greg never took himself that seriously that he could laugh at himself.
Next you gotta hear The Breakup Song, which was the banger that first broke them.
One of the best songs of the 80’s!
Not a bad song. I do like Weird Al Yankavic’s parody of it. He sings about the game show Jeopardy. You should check him out.
Haven't heard this song in a long time
Kihn was a DJ in the bay area for a long time up until about ten years ago. They would throw a Kihncert at Shorline amphitheater every year.
Greg Kihn is actually now a successful novelist now!
The first concert I ever went to was Rick Springfield & Greg Kihn Band - Santa Barbara County Bowl - July 1982
Amber and Jay - the two cutest bobbleheads!!!!😂❤✌
One of the really fun and cool videos of early MTV. Straight ol' American rock 'n' roll.
Good 80's tune. Another popular song in the 80's. A video staple of the day.
This is the best song their is also a extended mix of this that is really funny
Like a lot of people, I hadn't heard that in a while. I forgot how funky and musical it really is. I can't really remember a lot of songs from them but this is a great song. Forever immortalized by Weird Al, for better or for worse.
