    Thank you. Finally somebody has the same "affliction" as me. I find that anytime I do a single strap - either backpack or messenger bag - it just slides off my left shoulder. Near as I can tell my right shoulder (predominate hand) rides a little higher and bags stay in place.

    I'm left-handed, so I've never really minded one versus the other -- as a left handed person, we have to accomodate and get used to the fact that nearly every product that can be designed with a hand-preference is designed antagonistically to us. Not really a problem for me, you have to make a choice and it makes the most sense to do what works for the majority of people.

    • @ijnkongo25

      It is not really Shimoda's fault for not putting it to the left - it is really the camera manufacturers' fault for not having a camera with a left-hand grip (majority). It makes no sense for Shimoda to design a bag for lefties, since they have to grab the camera with right hands anyway.

    • @praxis-cat870
      @praxis-cat870 2 года назад +1

      @@ijnkongo25 For some reason it seems like you think I'm blaming Shimoda or finding them at fault, when I was fairly supportive of their decision? I likewise said that Shimoda should do what works for the majority of people.

    Finally it is gotten right! I always feel left side quick access is awkward for me, and I end up with putting down the whole bag to access the camera. Now I know why:) Thank you!

    Right definitely makes more sense. I was extremely frustrated with my left side access camera bag, and I was surprised that amongst the 20+ youtube reviews I had watched before I purchased the bag, no one ever brought this up.

    At first I was annoyed the my new Explore V2 access was on the right side. But the lack of juggling the camera has sold me. Thanks for thinking of it.

  • @alexshackleford1065

    Perfect.
    For me, I like right access because that's how I naturally put a bag on/off. I instinctively slip the strap off my left shoulder. When I put a bag on, right arm goes through first.
    I guess it's similar to how awkward it would feel if you try to put a jacket on with the opposite arm than you usually do.
    Love your videos, thank you.

    Used to access from the left.. Tested the right side with my other bags with right side access... seems u right about it about the awkward switching of gears from one hand to another while trying to retrieve and put back my gears via left access. 😃 Been doing wrong for so long haven't even notice that it become habit to left😂.. Plenty of time to practice after my V2 25L arrive 👍🏻😃

      All comes down to preference I suppose. But yes I 'side' with less risk of dropping gear, straining muscles and prefer saving time :)

    i totally agree with you. i have been using peak design bag for along time and started accessing my camera from the left side. however, after having those same problems you mentioned in the video, i switched to right side and never go back.

    Glad you guys made this video! A RUclipsr said it was on the “wrong side” so I decided not to get the bag, but now I’m interested again. Love the thought in the design choice

    I don't know if other camera bag companies put this much thought into their bags (some - maybe, most - doubt it) but I know they don't put it into their videos. These detailed explanations are part of the experience of owning a Shimoda bag and contribute to their utility. I am always floored when I look at other bag companies because of how poor their product photos are, never mind high-quality, instructive videos like these. They really do their products a disservice. Or maybe they're just not as proud of them as Ian is?

    A camera is a right hand tool first. Also, generally, if not all, people are used to wear backpacks on their right shoulder only. It feels more natural to go this path than the left one.

  • @Sacrypheyes

    as someone who has the habit to carry my backpacks mainly on my left shoulder, having the side access on the right actually made it quite inconvenient for me; and i would have much preferred if we could have chosen from which side we wanted to have the side access rather than forcing everyone to use it this way.
    most websites, starting with yours don't specifically mention the fact that the side access only works on the right (and i didn't know the brand nor particularly researched it before i bought the bag to know that all your models only offer side access from the right, which i now know after watching this video), and the presence of a zipper on both side clearly made me think i could use whichever side i wanted.
    this truely was my worst realization after i bought the backpack, as much as i love the rest of the features of the Explore v2.

      Sorry to hear about your experience. We do have images on the website product pages showing the left side is a filter pocket and not an access point. I admit we are not in the habit of posting what features the bag doesn't have, web page space is limited as it is and we focus on features present in the product. I am sorry it's not what you expected or what were previously used to but I also think it something that can be overcome. Other folks have managed to do it :) Regards Ian

    I'm very impressed with the new explorer series, but it's not really suitable for my needs. I hope you would consider to add a third line of backpacks geared more toward multi-day hikers photographers. I currently own the action x50, I love it but at 2.5kg (with the core unit) it's simply too heavy for the task.

    • @ShimodaDesigns
      @ShimodaDesigns  3 года назад

      Hi. Assuming you mean a bigger than X50 multi-day hiking camera bag, it is likely to weigh more. While I don't disagree less weight is great and welcome, most reductions are going to be less than 2% of the total weight you're moving around (including your body weight too). While some may not agree with this analogy, it's not the weight of a road bike, it's the wheels that make it go fast. I have similar logic with pack weights and legs/fitness (with in reason of course) :) With that said, Explore v2 is not a multi-day hiker style pack. It can do it if hut supported, but not its niche.

      I ideally agree with you: in an ideal world everybody is fit, strong and don't suffer from knee pain eheh :p In the real world I believe there is a somebody else other than me who is looking for a very light hiking backpack designed for photography. Meanwhile I'll keep my beloved X50 tank which can provide already for few days of hiking (with tent, mattress, sleeping bag, gas/stove, and the small core unit for camera and 2 lenses).

    I’m right-handed but left side access is still the way to go for me. Yes you can do it naturally as you do from your right side :)
    That’s sad because your bags look so cool 😞 But I’m ready to change, just have to try it first!

    Loving these videos. new Sub. I just ordered the bag from B&H here in the US. I didn't see an option for the women's straps. What is the difference between the straps that come on the bag and the Women's straps? Does someone who is "small busted" need to even worry about them?

    • @ShimodaDesigns
      @ShimodaDesigns  2 года назад +1

      Hi Lisa, the design is shaped to curve around the chest area and be position more towards the armpit area. The y also have two sternum straps so you can avoid having pressure points right across the breast area. Just like these straps also work for men, our stocks straps also work fine for some women. From my expereince, small busted is usually ok. I think the bigger chest the harder it is for the straps sit like we want them to. If you end with some discomfort with the stock set, email me. ian@shimodadesigns.com
