I didn't know that the word bollocks was a swear word. I liked the character of Chief O'Brien/Smiley in TNG and DS9. Also, Colm Meaney was in a few episodes of Stargate Atlantis too.
I didn't ask, because autographs are stupid, but I had a chat with him in a bar, and he was very friendly. He was also really cool to my friend who asked him the world's nerdiest question.
@rabbitwho Well, in fairness to that comment, I think they were talking about travel. With movies, you might be filming in an LA studio one day, the Nevada desert the next week, and next month, you're shooting a movie in Norway (made up examples, but you see my point). CS knew that he had to be at a particular set every day, but he wasn't likely to have to move around much. So he could buy a house, stay in one city, etc. As for his mental state, though, I take your point.
Happens, dude. I'm a baseball nut, play on two teams, and would wouldn't be looked at twice were we to pass on the street, but DS9 and Battlestar are two of my favorite shows, which automatically brands me a sci-fi nerd with all that that entails. It's true of any "group" - the loud stereotypes become the standard measure by which all our judged. No worries.
I enjoyed DS9 but I don't see myself as a nerd, I'm grateful the show introduced me to Colm who I think is a genuinely good actor. I'm also a massive football fan (soccer to you american types) and if anything I have more reason to be considered a football nerd than a sci-fi nerd yet i'm more likely to be labelled one because I like a few sci-fi shows.
i said bollocks infront of a nun i couldn't find my cigarettes i searched my pockets i couldn't find them i blurt out bollocks she didn't hear me cursing
I speaks a whole lot better in this interview. The video of him at a convention he was stuttering A LOT......but now i see that it was most likely nervousness
To mock star trek fans who would be the main viewers of this interview is in bad taste, The interview sets the standard by referring to them as science fiction nerds, and even after Colm Meany defends them the others still mock them.
I feel bad for Meaney for being on this show with three people to his left and two to his right, where 4/5 just stare at him and at best have something unfunny to say.
yea what a dick eh, i enjoy a good trek show. id call myself a mild nerd, I've been laid. I don't get the trek fan hate. Like the, "lets hop on the rip-on-trek-fans bandwagon like a cock"
@MrEoinCollins ....im irish and to be honest in think they are all clowns on this show...colm is class but the rest of them r as bout as funny as cancer
Thank you, Colm Meaney! Chief O'Brien was one of the best characters on Star Trek and he never would've been the same without you! You're great!
The Commitments, The Snapper, The Van; all increasingly central roles in them. Loved him :)
He's great. What a riot, with his stories.
i love his Tom Cruise impression..
"why'd you move that cup!?"
lmao
"d-d-dont!"
A rare Irish talent. How many actors get to star on a TV show for close to 15 years and just play himself? Plays a great Husband and Father too!
"The best writing is in television..the writing for feature films is not very good."
Took the words right out of my mouth.
Bollocks. He said it in the episode "Time's Orphan".
DS9, best Star Trek series over. So sad that it's been over so long...
DS9 was the best thing to happen to Colm/O'Brien. He really developed as a character and as an actor.
7:45 " Why don't ye fuck off outta dis place?" Only a Dubliner could phrase advice that was kindly meant like that ! Love it.
I didn't know that the word bollocks was a swear word. I liked the character of Chief O'Brien/Smiley in TNG and DS9. Also, Colm Meaney was in a few episodes of Stargate Atlantis too.
Fast forward a few years and now you have Romulans with Irish accents saying "cheeky feckers"
If they had kept him in "Life on Mars" chances are it wouldn't have been cancelled. Colm Meaney is the fucking man!
My favourite character from DS9. The most relatable character from that and TNG too :D
thanks, can't wait to see kings.
I love Colm "Ill get this fucker myself!" Meaney!
I didn't ask, because autographs are stupid, but I had a chat with him in a bar, and he was very friendly. He was also really cool to my friend who asked him the world's nerdiest question.

Not just irish. But yes, fantastic actor, and a great interview, I think.
It's wreckin my head trying to remember which movie he was in with Cruise...
far and away he was the irish fight promotor in new york
His accent is so much thicker on an Irish talk show. ^_^
O'Brien's one of the best Trek characters!!!
You're right - scoldin' it is - I've been misleading the public for 6 mths now.
Good old Meaney.
Sadly, he was not on "Life on Mars". After the pilot, he was replaced with Harvey Keitel. :(
Aw that's sad - its at least the second time that happened to him - they did that with his character in Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman! :(

Colm Meaney rules, especially in Intermission
Time's Orphan.
"Bollocks!"
Heh heh.
I don't understand at the beginning what they say about Star Trek fans ? What happened to him ?
he was in star trek and they have mad fans
I enjoyed DS9 but I don't see myself as a nerd, I'm grateful the show introduced me to Colm who I think is a genuinely good actor. colm is one of my favorite trek actors, but his face seems to be expanding while his facial features seem to be getting smaller ( -.- )
I'd like to have a beer with him, i'm irish too
@Tombee83 Okay... no hard feelings, but you messaged the wrong person. That would be user "cobrolchain2", the video's poster.
the Irish are whole another level of swearing.
chuck findlay u better fuckin believe it 😃😃
Irish talk shows are a lot more candid than North American ones.
@Tombee83 Okay, now that that's settled, you want to explain why not knowing Irish swear words makes me a nerd, when I'm not Irish?
someone uploaded the episode under "O'Brien losses his cool" where he says bollox......lol
the only ST character that acts the same on the show and real life
Who exactly do you think invented the word "soccer?"
@fantinlatourful where were you born/live? :)
I remember that episode when he says Bollox😂😂 times orphan, yes I know…
@Tombee83 What the hell is a 'neird' ?
i said bollocks infront of a nun i couldn't find my cigarettes i searched my pockets i couldn't find them i blurt out bollocks she didn't hear me cursing
@SithRage I was joking, i ment you were a nerd because you knew the name of the episode that meany said bollox in.
I speaks a whole lot better in this interview. The video of him at a convention he was stuttering A LOT......but now i see that it was most likely nervousness
lol hey wait, lol so u mean the irish accent he had on DS9 was actually a tonned down version ?
LOL, "Those Romulans are a bonch of bastards..."
what's the Irish swear word?
@SithRage sorry my mistake Nerd!
so true

I know it's 8 years but "nerd" is not an insult, it's a badge of honour to live by intelligence and passion.
I feel bad for Meaney for being on this show with three people to his left and two to his right, where 4/5 just stare at him and at best have something unfunny to say.
Take your scowlin'
dara made this show. no other host could pull it off
uh, They say "soccer" in Ireland too, you know.
haha talking about Charlie Sheen being "settled", so obviously an old video. Win.
Your one of those Star trek nerds he's talkin about!
I stopped watching when Science Fiction fans were harassed by the moderator. He should host shows about beer drinking or soccer or something.
yea what a dick eh, i enjoy a good trek show. id call myself a mild nerd, I've been laid. I don't get the trek fan hate. Like the, "lets hop on the rip-on-trek-fans bandwagon like a cock"
I said bollocks infront of a nun
Colm Meaney, will you be my grandad?
@MrEoinCollins ....im irish and to be honest in think they are all clowns on this show...colm is class but the rest of them r as bout as funny as cancer
well they shouldn't, that upsets me, its football and there are no two ways about it.
ever*
I watched the bollocks episode just the other day.
Unforgettable. Colm is a legend.
The hottie bairly talked. Guess shes there for eye candy...irish eye candy.
CHIEF!!!!!!
Not even a feck.
You ought to try get an autograph off this egotistical twit... He acts like you're asking him to donate a kidney or something.
