  • Let's revisit Solani 656 "Aged Burley Flake." This was one of my favorite burley blends when I reviewed it 8 years ago. Is it still one of the best?

Yikes but time flies. That shape #55 Sea Rock of yours is darkening nicely. Hard to believe it has been over eight years since you acquired it.

Love Aged Burley Flake. If you like this you need to try Cobblestone The Hiking. Delicious burley flake.

Bradley, I was waiting for this one. The first time I tried this tobacco was in 2007. My instant impression was that it was close to the original Larus & Brother Edgeworth Sliced, which I first smoked in summer, 1972. That stuff was heaven on earth. It was a blend of different white Burleys, well aged, and with a subtle chocolate casing. A bit of molasses, too. Solani is fast becoming as distant a memory as the Edgeworth. It's been more than five years since I've found it in stock anywhere. Great review!

Cheers! I wish it was more readily available. I'd like to try another tin to see how it compares to the one I just had.

@@stuffandthingsyoutube I have heard that ABF has a coffee casing, and I heard it from someone who would know. That would certainly deepen the chocolate taste. Dunno.

Coming from cigars, this was first blend that I fell in love with. The nuttiness really worked for me. I bought some tins recently when I found it in stock at a B&M and hope they are still the old chocolaty version. I wonder if aging makes a difference and put the tins away from now.

    Best burley flake

I've had ABF this year only, as I only started smoking a pipe recently, and I've never found any chocolatey undertone to it. The one that has it, and it is so distinct that I first thought it was added, is its brother blend Solani 660, Silver Flake. Highly recommended.

Haven't had a smoke in quite a while because I don't smoke too often to start with and then I had a tooth pulled. You got me craving a bowl but gotta hold off a while yet.

Don't get along with this one, but absolutely love Solani Silver flake (Va/Dark Fired). A top five tobacco for me.

I am fascinated how not once you mentioned something that was so indicative of this blend that not a single other blend I've had triggered even a thought about it. It's that, although a great tasting blend, it leaves my fingers so sticky after rubbing it out that I don't dare touching the pipe before I wipe the stickiness off. And no dry tissue could do the job. Did you not notice this or were my tins off???

Cigars kinda ruined Burley blends for me. Ever since I got myself deep into cigars, every single Burley blend I had in a pipe I could only "feel" and "taste" in terms of key cigar flavours. I know, it doesn't make any sense, but even the unique chocolate I remember some Burleys having (when compared to other pipe blends) now just taste like the chocolate I get in cigars.

How aged is that ABF? Maybe need to do a comparison with a new and old tin. When I smoked a new tin at the Ohio Pipe Show a few months ago it was very good. Thanks Bradley!

Ugh. I bought this blend once three years ago. And every time I try to find it, it's nowhere to be found. I've had an easier time getting some Germain's blends compared to this one. I love it though. I still have a few flakes left of that first tin. What a lovely blend.

Great revisited video as always, did I hear they changed the recipe in 2021ish?

I heard that too with the new blend being more licorice than chocolate

It definitely seemed more licorice-y to me.

I really can't compare it to anything. I think it's completely unique. I don't see a comparison to Irish Flake at all. It's a burley, but to me it has a unique "green" flavor.

Been looking forward to this one. In Europe(atleast in northern part) this blend seems quite available, however, I'm hesitant coughing up the quid as haunted bookshop is quite far from my favourite. How do they compare?

    • @comradecam

Yes they are completely different, Solani Aged Burley is like fine dining and Haunted Bookshop is like cold McDonald's.

Does a man's pallet at times get confussed. I am a year plus into this hobby, and many of the blends I smoke, even the ones I have loved in the past just start tasting the same. As I am an aromatic smoker. I bought the corn cob pipe and a button nose and get nothing other then burnt tobacco from all my pipes. I see reviewers stating they taste the hot chocolate and cream taste. I get none of that. I clean my pipe with every smoke with pipe cleaners and do use filters. Just asking? Thanks buddy!?

    • @wtfserpico
      @wtfserpico 10 месяцев назад +1

How quickly do you smoke? I find that cadence can make all the difference between a blend being flavorful and delicious and the same blend tasting burnt and offputting. CCPaABN is one of those blends that tastes WAY better to me if I take it very slowly.

@@wtfserpicogood to know, I do puff like a freight train maybe. I walk the dog or sit on my porch. I find that my pipe does at times get hot to touch. Not sure I can correct that as I am an ex smoker, Ober 15 years ago, but I do like to have a bowl for 20 min and get back to work. I will see if I can slow my roll. Thanks for returning comment my friend
