Thank you for sharing your cottage, beautiful pipes, and great tobacco insights! No doubt, your videos are some of the best. Richly rewarding on several levels.
Hi Mark! Always a pleasure watching one of your videos. They keep me good company while lighting up my pipe! I really enjoy it . Thank you for sharing !
Greetings, Mark, from hot and humid Texas. Thanks for taking the time to show us your flake packing method! I love your videos and smoking techniques, so any insight you can give us on your techniques, even though they are fundamentals, is much appreciated. I'm always trying to learn from more experienced smokers like you. God bless! -Bryce
What better man to discuss the finer details of burley flake - very interesting discussion and history lesson. Great HH photo. After 35 years of enjoying this endlessly fascinating hobby, burley blends (particularly the flakes) certainly reign in my pipebowls. Solani Aged burley and C&D #3 are supreme smokes. Many thanks for the comparison notes - HH burley sounds like a must try. Hope all is well with you and yours. Happy smokes and kind respects from Cartersville, GA,. Eric.
After seeing a review of the HH Burley Flake i gave it a try. Only had Burley once before, years ago but the shop no longer is in business and have not seen it since. Very much enjoy the HH. i'm putting the Solani on my "Bucket List". Thanks for another terrific video!
Hey Mark, thanks for the shout out! I just got back from my trip and saw your video. Great video as always! It was very nice to meet you, have a pipe and chat about tobaccos. Thanks for the excellent recommendations on the baccys. Be well. Dan.
A few days ago I found my tin of HH Burley Flake that I bought right when the tobacco came out here in Germany. But I didn't like it very much when I first tried it. It gave me tongue bite and everything, so I did put the opened can in a ziplock baggy in the cupboard and forgot about it, until now. I have smoked it now, and I gotta say, it improved quite a lot with aging, at least for my taste. And I don't know if I like it more than the Solani ABF, since I haven't had that in a while, but if I recall correctly, the taste of the aged HH BF has now come quite close to the Solani ABF. I also have an old square tin of the Solani sitting vacuum packaged in my cellar, but I don't want to open it yet. I keep it for a very special occasion. Greetings to Bremen✌️
I love these long-winded lectures from the tobacco professor! I am 100% with you on the flakes in a round tin, extremely annoying! It is a serious 1st world problem if there ever was one. Peterson and Orlik are doing it too now, probably others too.
A word for your English vocabulary, 'personal' or 'idiosyncratic.' The way someone packs a pipe is personal, i.e. 'in a particular or idiosyncratic way.' Best channel on pipe smoking I've found thus far. You've gained 300 subscribers since I started watching a few weeks ago. Nice work. Perhaps, I'll see you again.
I appreciate your review and comparison of these tobaccos. A question about your Meerschaum pipes; do your pipes have a teflon or delrin mortise and tenon joint? If no have you noticed a difference in the quality of the smoke with and without the teflon/ delrin fittings? Cheers
Another GREAT video, Mark!! I can hardly wait for the "Bremen Pipe Smoker Cottage Blend"...when it's harvested and properly aged and tinned!! I place my order now for two tins!! All the very best--Take care &-Be Well!! :)
Just looked up your method on Pipedia, rubbing a flake out using that method is called the "Bremen Bowl Method".....love the video Mark!!!! Keep choochin!!!
Hi Mark: Interesting about the delayed premier of HH blends in Germany. A couple of things come to mind. It may be that Macbaren uses the U.S. market for a test market for their new offerings before introducing them to Europe. Also, might there be a screening process for new tobaccos in Germany by government agencies before allowing them to be released? Just speculating. I love the cottage complete with potted burley plants, perfect! Keep puffin.
Hello Doug! Hello Paul! Thanks for that! And...yeah...there might be something to it. Another possibility is, that they have certain contracts with their US distributors, or don't wanna be short on production, when they come up on too many markets same time... I think, we would have some better understanding and sympathy, if they would simply explain their reasons... But we could live with delivery in fall...I guess...lol Take care! Be well! Mark
Is that your secret hidden tobacco cellar behind the faux bookshelf door!!??! Great video as always. I appreciate your words and passion around the oddity of the new solani tins as well as the frustration with the Mac Baren customer service. Thank you for the detailed review as well! This video has everything!!😉😀
...how do you know...LOL In deed...behind the door are some garden chairs...and three moving boxes of baccy...waiting to be reviewed...lol Thanks for taking the time..and good words! Take care! Be well! Mark
Can I ask some popular brand name for meerschaum pipes? I’m looking for my first one and would like to find block and just one from a reputable company or maker. Thank you sir.
Having been involved in the production setting, I’d say that their production line wasn’t set up and ready to package these in round tins with the proper insides and they ran out of the square tins before they had their line converted. Just my guess. I really enjoy Solani ABF, never tried the Mac Baren BF, if you have access to ABF or Wessex BF I wouldn’t think there would be much need for Mac Baren’s. It’s my understanding that in order for Mac Baren to market in Germany the Govt was making it far too restrictive and too much red tape that they decided to not sell there. I’m sure you’ve already learned this given the age of your video. All the best, Lance
Nice presentation! I watched the whole video, whilst smoking some Solani Aged Burley Flake in my Butz Choquin bent mirage pipe! Very enjoyable and well done! 👍 Next I’ll get some HH Macbaren Burley Flake and try that! Love that clock in the background! Cheers, mate! 👽
Mark.!!! Hello brother!! Fantastic to see you again.. Hope you are having a great summer... Excellent review I have tried both they are good no question about it my friend.... Hope you are enjoying the cabin 😁👍🏻😎.. You take care of yourself see you again soon 👍🏻👍🏻
Brad, brother! Good, to have you here! One day, we'll sit down in the chairs ... and enjoy some good baccy! Enjoy the summer, my friend...winter is coming soon enough...lol Take care! We'll talk soon! Mark
Hi Mark: Happy Summer, my friend! Wow...the kleingarten cottage looks fantastic. You have done a great job with it. Such a nice, relaxing atmosphere. One thing that I discovered about growing tobacco in your garden. You will have difficulty growing other crops, in the same place, next season. The tobacco does something strange to the soil. Hope that's not the case with your variety. The burley comparison was very interesting. Thanks for that. I ordered some LJ Peretti #333, this Summer. It's a rough cube-cut burley, with a light topping, which I think might be deertongue. It's also pretty good stuff. A nice Summer tobacco. Always great to see you here on YT. All the best...and, Be Well. Ed
GrandpaCavendish Ed, my good friend! So good to hear from you! Was already worried about you... Thought about asking you on Monday if you're alright... Yeah... Don't worry... no crop on my soil... Just baccy... Lol The harvest has already begun... I'm early on that... But heading for France next week and I'm not sure, what the baccy will look like when I'm back... Take care, my friend... We'll talk soon! Mark
Excellent direct comparison/contrast. I'll be most interested in seeing/hearing about your tobacco crop and the harvesting and preparation with the various tobaccos.
How does Mac Baren's Navy Flake compare to their Burley Flake? Somehow I've never had the Navy Flake. I know it has a topping, but I think it has those three tobaccos primarily as well.
Hello Mark, that was once again an excellent and interesting video of you. Too bad that the HH does not exist in Germany. But not here in Spain too. I am very curious to try it, because the Solanie is an excellent tobacco too, which I like to smoke with great pleasure. The marketing policy of MacBaren is incomprehensible to us laymen in this sector. So there is nothing more common for us than to be patient. Thanks God, patient is one of my favorit characteristics. :) One of the reasosn to smoke a good pipe with a rich tobacco. Now you have also gone under the tobacco farmers, which surprise:) Homegrown tobacco in your own garden. This is really good. Congratiolations! Greetings from the south. Michael!
Thanks for that, Michael! Much appreciated! Good news...heard, they gonna pull the trigger on the European market in September...after the Tobacco exhibition... Take care! Be well! Mark
I guess they say that Burley has oils in it as opposed to sugar and it really comes out during pressing. I think the Solani is maybe more sticky due to having more Burley oils in it. But maybe it’s the sugar or both. Anyway- I started using a Zippo religiously for pipe smoking after seeing you do it so I knew it was gonna be ok. You basically said in another vid that sure I sometimes taste a tiny bit of fuel for a very brief moment but then it’s completely gone and I get on with my life. 😂 For me it’s the only lighter that will reliably work in the upcoming New England winter and it does not ruin your week when you lose it in the snow somewhere.
Mark. So great to see you again. An absolute favourite of mine to pair with coffee is HH Old Dark Fired. The other issue with the round tin is that it allows the flakes to move around more and they hit the sides and then start to break. My own sense was this move of all these companies to the round tins was due to the requirement of warning labels? It seems that a number of the companies are doing this.
Thank you so much for taking the time, my friend! And ...yeah...no doubt about Old Dark fired..excellent choice to pair with coffee... And about the tins...well...yeah, think, they just wanna do always the same procedures...all steps included.. Take care, my friend! Hope, you're well! Mark
I enjoy your videos very much. This one has a lot of content and good information. Burley is my favorite for sure. Hadn't had ether of these but making a list.
Thank you for the review I enjoy watching your videos. I just got the Hh burly flake at my local shop. Here in the states it has been hard for me to find Solani tobacco. All our online shops are out. I wonder if Ronnie would ship some to me. The only Solani tobacco I have tried is a can of silver and black a friend gifted me at my pipe club. Anyway hope you are well and your pipe is full.
Hi Mark. Got my tin of HH Burley a few months ago but I have not opened it yet. I am now looking forward to it. I don't know if you noticed but the HH Burley is the only HH that is not listed on Mac Baren website, perhaps just an oversight. Anyhow, hopefully given a few years to age, the HH Burley will become sweeter and closer to the Solani Aged Burley. Enjoy the summer my friend! P.S. Is Ronny on vacation? I have not been able to get in touch with him lately.
Thank you so much, my friend...for taking the time and very interesting comment! Hope, you enjoy the HH (and aged) Burley... :-) And yeah...saw that...they probably might think, we may watch the website...but not the YTPC... lol Ronny is on duty...I'll be there in about three hours...I'll tell him... Take care! Be well! Mark
Hello, quick question from Caracas. I just got a new old stock meerschaum and it has a smell like something marine. Aren't meerschaum supposed NOT to have any kind of odour? Is supposed to be block, from Turkey. Thanks. Peter
Hey, Peter! Sorry, for being late...was on vacation... Yeah...there is a typical Meerschaum smell...especially, when it hasn't had too many smokes so far...it will decline after a while but never completely disappear...but it won't affect the taste... Take care! Be well! Mark
Hello Mark, I know this comment is a few years old but I just wanted to Remarque on your grandfather clock. Last year, I purchased an old grandfather clock that is in the same shape and I was told that it was in 1920s or 30s German grandfather clock. It has that round top and the convexed dial glass just like yours does. I have the works out of it and I plan to convert it to a cigar humidor. Can you tell me anything about your clock? Manufacturer, age?
Thanks for taking the time, my friend! Much appreciated! Yeah...well...my grandfather purchased this clock in the 30s ...and that's pretty much all I know about it. This very model is quite common here in Germany. Very simple but nearly indestructible (transported in on a wheelbarrow to the cottage) and precise if adjusted correctly. Never saw maintenance, never saw a drop of oil...lol. Take care! Be well! Mark
Mark - When it come to cleaning a pipe, the main idea is to keep it serviceable & enjoyable. At no time will a pipe ever be used to perform surgery, so one really need not overdo it in the cleaning department. That's my take anyway, Cheers! - Scott in San Diego California
I just got back from Berlin last night, I couldn't find the Burley Flake, but no problem as I still grabbed a tin of Mac Baren Navy Flake, great smoke. I also tried Borkum Riff [bronze] for the first time, very nice blend, especially with a cup of lava.
Thanks for that, my friend! Have you already tried the Richmond Navy Cut? ...if not...you should consider...might be right up your alley... Take care! Hope, you're well! Mark
Yep, the zippo thing is controversial in the States too. I can taste the zippo fluid in the tobacco so I don’t use it. Ironically I preferred a zippo when I use to smoke burley based cigarettes. I don’t have the taste awareness you seem to, but chemicals (including a lot of aromatics)will dominate the tobacco's taste for me if it is mixed in there. I wish I could use a zippo, the lighter actually works. So enjoy it!! Great reviews!
Hi Mark, The tobaccos are not my taste, but your tamper fits perfectly with your interior. I like them. Very entertaining video, a really fast hour😄 All the best to Bremen. Andreas
Andreas, my friend! Thanks for stopping by...and kind words! Next review gonna be shorter...and perhaps more up your alley... :-) Take care! Be well! Mark
Heyyy Mark how you doing my friend. This was an excellent comparison of the two blends i like burley and Virginia im not a fan of the Kentucky. I also love the perique.too i want to try the McBaren. Virginia navy flake. And. S .G. Full Virginia flake those are going to be in my next order Mark you always do such a great video i enjoy it trumindusly thanks so much for sharing. My good friend😄 happy smokes😃😃😃😃😃👍👍👍👍👍👍👍 best regards peter.
Peter, good friend! Great, to have you here! Perhaps, you also give the Mac Baren HH Virginia a shot...not much difference in price...and good baccy... Take care, my friend! Let's talk soon! Mark
Hello Mark my friend! Great comparison video with these two great, and quality tobaccos...two of my favorites I should say....I have always appreciated the HH Mac Baren tobaccos. As you've said, it is surprising to me that it has taken them so long to come up with a Burley flake tobacco, since it is right down their alley. I don't really like the new packing of the Solani either, although all my tins have been the old style, haven't purchased it since the change. Anyways, thank you for your comparison review on these...always top notch! Gonna hit you soon on voxer, yeah...believe me, we will talk soon! Take care and be well, Corey
Im in the US, and I agree with you, this company is right there in your town, how hard would it be to produce enough to send it out to both the US and your own country, why hold it back from your own countrymen, and why would they do that is beyond me.
I’m a big fan of solani 660 but they do have terrible packaging. It would be interesting to hear your technique on clinching seeing as you do it so naturally and are able to talk through your pipe without spewing ash! Great video!
Thank You for the answer about meerschaum! My experience is with African meerschaum, which I really like. Will see about the Turkish one. Cheers. Peter
Just trying out the hh burly flake right now, quite a good blend. By the way that is a great book shelf behind you love the look of it ! Have a great day
Ach, wie gut war dieses Video! Sehr interessant. ABF is one of my favorite tobaccos, and I have a few tins of the HH Burley Flake which I have yet to open, so this was very spot on for me. Danke schön, Mark, und entschuldigung für meine schlechte Deutsche ^___^
Lovely review Mark and not to long for me, I enjoy both the tobacco reviews and the historical elements of your videos and as a former university student the "bigger picture" thought process that goes into them. When I first saw that the review was Mc Barren HH burley flake I was very surprised that this had been released as they already do a burley flake in the HH range called HH Old dark fired. I looked at the reviews and the scores are both rated at 3.6 and the taste, favouring, strength and room note are almost identical. I shall have to purchase a tin of each and carry out a comparison and pass my findings on to you for further research. Keep up the good work and stay well. P.s. apologies I'm nearly as forgetful as you are sometimes lol I meant to mention that I'm not sure if Old Dark Fired is available in both the states and Europe and as they seem almost identical whether one is aimed at the European market and one at the US market. Unfortunately I don't know any American pipe smoke who I could ask that question. Regards Andrew Bolderson
Hey Andrew! Sorry, for being late...was on vacation... Thank you so much for taking the time and very insightful comment! Yeah...Old DarkFired is available in the States and in Europe...and I guess, it's the same receipt...Mac Baren also sold this one under several shop brands...for example John Aylesbury... Take care! Hope, you are well! Mark
Thanks for taking the time! Well...actually, no...I don't think so...maybe, if you go too hot on it...what might happen, since the Meerschaum doesn't care about the heat...but the virginia will... :-) Take care! Be well! Mark
Hi Mark. Very interesting video. I have as well a tin of the Solani in my cellar, but never smoked so far. Does the HH BF as well has the typical Mac Baren taste? Hope see you soon. Have good time and take care. Cheers, Armin
Hello Armin! Thanks a lot for taking the time...and good words! Much appreciated! Yeah...well...I think, I wouldn't find out, that's a Mac Baren, without knowing...can't really detect the slightly honey like note, they use on many tobaccos...but the combination itself could deliver the hint... Take care! Hope, you're well! Mark
You seem to keep an open mind and enjoy trying many different tobacco blends but I was wondering if there was a blend type ( English, straight Virginia's, VaPer, and etc.) that you favor more so than others and also was there a blend,or blends, when you first started smoking that made you or helped you realize that this is something that you were really going to enjoy? Just curious. I love pipe smoking and all the different tobacco's and your impression/review videos about tobacco is what got me started watching your channel but what really got me hooked and made me enjoy your channel over others is the added history/historical aspect that you bring into some of your videos.Being a history lover and pipe smoker your channel is just great!Your caring, honest, and personable demeanor is very inviting as well.Sorry for the rant but when I enjoy something as much as I enjoy your videos I have to say something about it and let you know there are many many people just like me who really enjoy what you do.Stay well and keep the videos coming!! Sincerely, Braxton
Hey Braxton! Thank you so much for your most kind and heartwarming words! Truly so much appreciated! And...yeah...well...as many pipe smokers, I started with Aromatics...first slightly ...then heavier ..and heavier...lol. After a while, I searched for something else. started with Virginias, then Bureley...Kentucky ...finally Latakia... Today, I like nearly all sorts of Tobaccos...if the quality is excellent, although, the very rich, sweet and strong Kentucky tobaccos are my favorites. My favorite cuts are Flakes, Cakes, Ready rubbed, Curley...something out of the ordinary... :-) Take care, my friend! Hope, you are well! Mark
So I just tried the MacBaren HH Burley Flake for the first time last week. It is also the first flake tobacco that I have ever tried as well as the first MacBaren Blend I have ever tried. Coming from cigarette smoking, I figured this would be about the halfway point between English and aromatic blends. To my surprise it was. Not only is it a great mid point tobacco but, it was more than satisfying. I haven’t tried the Solani Aged Burley Flake as of yet but, seeing how it is blended by MacBaren, I expect another amazing tobacco. I will be trying it very soon. I really enjoyed your review of these tobaccos and I am looking forward to watching more reviews in the future. Be well my friend and keep ‘em lit!🔥
Hello Mark! Nice comparison! I've heard that HH Burley Flake will be available in the EU but I don't know if its true, and if it is, when it will be... Cheers!
I've been exploring and enjoying burley flakes lately (C&D #3 is very good), I had not heard of HH Burley Flake and am pleased to see that it's newly available in the US now. I wonder if EU regulations have something to do with tobaccos being slower to release in Europe? It'll be that way in the US, soon, if these stupid new FDA "deeming" regulations get put in place.
Thanks for that, my friend! And ...well...not so sure about the regulations...right now, I think the US market seems to be a bit more difficult with the new regulations...but perhaps, you're right and they wanted to be quick on that, before it's gettig even harder...since the "special editions" of several companies are already struck by that...but...I don't know... Take care! Hope, you're well! Mark
I'm very glad to have found this video, as I recently received both tobaccos. I have been thoroughly enjoying the Solani 656 ABF, but I've not yet tried the H.H. Burley Flake. This was a very interesting 55 minutes. Thank you!
Greetings from the US. Fantastic video! I think the availability of HH blends in the states has something to do with regulations and the strict laws in the EU. The US is very loose with tobacco and what you can put in it, but that may be changing. However there are some Mac Baren blends that will never make it to the US market because they don't adhere to some regulations that we DO have (coming from a Mac Baren response to an email I sent them). So, who knows? Loved the video. Any experience with Pfeifen Huber tobaccos in Munich?
Thank you so much, my friend...for taking the time and interesting comment! Much appreciated! And...yeah...Huber is one the finest addresses for pipe tobacco in Germany ...no doubt... Take care! Hope, you're well! Mark
Thank You Mark, as always, i learn something from your videos. Have you ever smoked Carter Hall, a otc baccy from America? And what is your opinion of it? Enjoy the garden and learning new skills with your harvast, see you again ytpc fried!!!!!
I Have and can tell You its good value and simply burley (has virginia in it as well)forward mild tobacco with some alcohol like toppings, exceptional value, but if you smoke it always it definitely may get boring,
Thanks for stopping by...much appreciated! And ...yeah...actually, I did! Joshua was kind enough, to send me a package of this "American classic". I can't add much to the things, Paul already said...completely agree on that. But I was really positively surprised...didn't expect much by a B&M tobacco...but was really surprised. I understand, why it became a classic one... Take care! Be well! Mark
Please think about make the interview with the German blenders / producers, and ask them about the tobacoo market mysteries. It could be very interesing for all.
I just love your channel...I'm new to smoking a pipe, and I'm learning so much from you. Aside from tobacco, what kind of watch do you wear? I'm also a watch collector. Now a pipe collector. I took your advice and purchased a pipe from the maker Birinci from the German EBay site. Can't wait to get it in my hands and between my teeth. Thanks so much.
As always an excellent review. Beautiful cottage... by the way the wall clock it’s a piece of art! Good to hear that they use burley from brazil though have to say that Brazilian tobacco its a mystery to me despite being my original home country...and from what I heard brazilian tobacco may soon disappear given the taxes and health control that causes political persecution over it... Your channel is fantastic and is always a pleasure hearing you. Thanks for sharing! Ps: could not help noticing the chain in your coat .. is it a pocket watch?!! Thanks again
Hello Andre! Thank you so much for taking the time...and very interesting comment! Much appreciated! Yeah...Bremen and Brazil (I think mainly the region of Bahia) share a long history, since all tobacco from Brazil for Germany came over the harbors of Bremen and most of it was used by Bremen Cigar makers up to the end of WWI...after WWII, Brazil was the first country, delivering tobacco to the harbors Bremen again... And...yeah... you're right...it's a pocket watch... Take care! Be well! Mark
Hey Bremen, another fantastic video. Amazing detail you manage to work in here across every aspect of these fine tobaccos. Really enjoy the historian commentary mixed in with the actual bacco breakdowns. You have a fantastic style that is very natural and mixed with a ton of humor and interesting detail. No worries at all on length of video, it is much better this way imho vs. if you try to rush it and then end up missing or leaving things out. Very nice on the bacco growth as well, that is something that I would love to "sneak" into my wife's garden next year, glad to hear you managed a decent smoke out of your own stock. Hope you are staying cool and enjoying your summer. Happy smokes and take care! PS. Have you ever compared Wessex BS vs. Solani ABF? I just did a comparison and while I do get a different taste profile it is amazing how similar the baccos are. You had me curious when you were talking about re-branding.
Hello Andrew! Thank you so much for taking the time...and many kind words! Really so much appreciated! Thank you also for your very interesting comment! Never compared the Wessex vs the Solani...but thanks a lot for the hint...I'll give it a try... Take care, my friend! Hope, you're well! Mark
Hello Mark, I know I'm late to the party but one reason why a company may launch a product in a different country other than origin is due to the market analytics, note mac baren may have noticed matches 860 lives in the states and decided to launch because they know he'll buy it out. Hahahha just joking, its probably due to building up the hype. On another note the solani label has also changed and now has a numerical production code on the back. I have wanted to like burleys, I've tried both, not my cup of tea (burley). There is one blend I do really enjoy dark flake unscented is the tops for my palate. Have a blessed weekend Sincerely G.W.
Thank you so much for this, my friend! And...yeah...both speculations may be right...lol...But my money is on the "matches theory" ...lol Take care! Hope, you're well! Mark
We are absolutely on the same page Herr Professor, first thing I'm grudging is the paper cover instead the old way varnish than the ridiculous round tin for a spare product. What can be more paradoxical? I stopped to believe in the idea of evolution. Which says that every new generation supersede the previous one. Just have a look on the old time tines, how beautiful they are, how much attention was.payed to the last detail.Recently I watched Matches 860 and Sargent Savinelli opening a sealed canister of Edgeworth from 1911 I believe, please just watch it, they say that it is nothing like the modern one.
Hey Magician! Good, to have you here! Yeah...you're right! Guess, you can't hide a secret door from a Magicians eye...lol...But no big secret behind it...just garden chairs and some moving boxes...filled with tobaco tins... :-) Take care, my friend! Hope, you're well! Mark
Great video , as always . Though my comments are late , as we do sometimes missed one or two. My comments are towards the end of your video , I see the little picture of a skull from the bookcase . Is that the skull painting by Van Gogh ? . As I remember seeing it at the Van Gogh ‘s museum in Amsterdam. All the best wishes from here .
Thanks for that, my friend! Don't care about beeing late...I'm always late!...LOL Well...the skull is just from ceramic...reminds me, that we have to use our time carefully... Take care! Hope, you're doing well! Mark
Good to see you my friend! I really like your Grandfather clock! As you know, burley is not for me so i really can't speak of these blends. I hope your summer is going well and I'll see you on the next video! Be well....
Mike, my good friend! Always so good, to see you! Hope, you're doing well! And...yeah...actually, I thought during the video "that's no baccy for Mike"...lol...But hang in...next video will probably be about something up your alley...pretty sure.. Take care! Enjoy the summer! Mark
Nice video brother. Be careful with that C&D Burley Flake 3. It will blow your doors completely off haha. Not many pipe tobaccos get to me as far as nicotine is concerned, but that one, woah baby!!
Haha square paper in a round tin....Mark's pet peeve. That is crazy Lol I got a good laugh out of how you were able to handle that! The title of this video should be "The things that grinds Mark's gears." Lol
Here in Israel the whole line of HH is missing, thank god for Smokingpipes.com, customs service & international mail. Just open a tin of Burley flake, and it is a bit refined for my palette. Maybe I am just accustomed to their wonderful Golden Blend 🤷🏻♂️
Hello there Mark. Another really good and informative video. I have not tried the C&D or Solani yet but I have a few tins of the Mac Baren Burley Flake. Might crack the tins now. Looking forward to the next video. Take care.
Thanks ...your ending that has you lighting a bowl and pondering the moment fits your style so well! Hope to see more of that in your videos.
Superb comparison review. Thanks for that. Take care and have a great time in your cottage.
Thank you for sharing your cottage, beautiful pipes, and great tobacco insights! No doubt, your videos are some of the best. Richly rewarding on several levels.
Thank you so much for that, my friend! So much appreciated!
Take care! Be well!

really enjoy the time you spend with us
Hey Mark, thanks for the shout out! I just got back from my trip and saw your video. Great video as always! It was very nice to meet you, have a pipe and chat about tobaccos. Thanks for the excellent recommendations on the baccys. Be well. Dan.
Thanks for the great samples...really good! Was a pleasure, to meet you!
And let me know, if you need anything...
Take care! Be well!

Thanks for watching and interesting comment!
Much appreciated!
Take care and be well!
Mark
I love these long-winded lectures from the tobacco professor! I am 100% with you on the flakes in a round tin, extremely annoying! It is a serious 1st world problem if there ever was one. Peterson and Orlik are doing it too now, probably others too.
Yeah...very wise words! Completely agreed!
Thank you so much for taking the time, my friend!
And take care!
Mark
A word for your English vocabulary, 'personal' or 'idiosyncratic.' The way someone packs a pipe is personal, i.e. 'in a particular or idiosyncratic way.'
Best channel on pipe smoking I've found thus far. You've gained 300 subscribers since I started watching a few weeks ago. Nice work. Perhaps, I'll see you again.
30 not 300.
I appreciate your review and comparison of these tobaccos.
A question about your Meerschaum pipes; do your pipes have a teflon or delrin mortise and tenon joint? If no have you noticed a difference in the quality of the smoke with and without the teflon/ delrin fittings?
Cheers
The Solani Tropical flake is my current favorite right now. It has such a nice unique taste. I totally agree with you on the silly packaging. lol
Thanks for that, brother ...and for taking the time! Really so much appreciated!
Take care! Be well!
Mark
Another GREAT video, Mark!! I can hardly wait for the "Bremen Pipe Smoker Cottage Blend"...when it's harvested and properly aged and tinned!! I place my order now for two tins!! All the very best--Take care &-Be Well!! :)
Hey Tim, good friend!
...well...order accepted! LOL If there is anything smokable upcoming at all...lol
Take care! Hope, you're well!
Mark
Hello Mark. Another very enjoyable chat. Thank you for sharing. I wish you a pleasant Summer. Be well.
Just looked up your method on Pipedia, rubbing a flake out using that method is called the "Bremen Bowl Method".....love the video Mark!!!! Keep choochin!!!
LOL...thanks for that, my friend!
Take care! Be well!
Mark
Always happy to spend an hour with you, Mark!
I'm jealous of your house. Looks like Ole Worm's "cabinet of curiosities" or something :D
Hi Mark , could you tell me where you buy that Pipe your Smoking please. ? I really like that pipe. Cheers and hope you had a nice Christmas. Roy
But we could live with delivery in fall...I guess...lol
Take care! Be well!
Mark
Ich glaube das geht Schon in ordung ,,
Is that your secret hidden tobacco cellar behind the faux bookshelf door!!??!
Great video as always. I appreciate your words and passion around the oddity of the new solani tins as well as the frustration with the Mac Baren customer service. Thank you for the detailed review as well! This video has everything!!😉😀
...how do you know...LOL In deed...behind the door are some garden chairs...and three moving boxes of baccy...waiting to be reviewed...lol
Thanks for taking the time..and good words!
Take care! Be well!
Mark
I’ve been watching your videos NON stop. Such great content my friend! I live in California, cheers!
Thanks you so much for that, my friend! really so much appreciated!
Take care! Hope, you're well!
All the best,
Lance
Thanks for all your effort to compare the tobaccos what a great video.
Just bought 2lb of HH Burley. Fantastic blend. Solani Aged Burley too is great. My 2 favorite Burleys. Enjoy your videos.🤐
Hello. I was wondering if you will be taking us along on your annual trip to the Bibliotheca Augusta in Wolfenbuttel this year. Hope so.
Thanks for that, my friend!
Yeah...unfortunately, I won't make it this year to Wolfenbüttel...but hopefully in spring....
Take care! Be well!
Mark
Nice presentation! I watched the whole video, whilst smoking some Solani Aged Burley Flake in my Butz Choquin bent mirage pipe! Very enjoyable and well done! 👍 Next I’ll get some HH Macbaren Burley Flake and try that! Love that clock in the background! Cheers, mate! 👽
Great video Mark, always nice seeing you! Quite a lengthy review. I love your clock and room by the way!
Enjoy the summer, my friend...winter is coming soon enough...lol
Take care! We'll talk soon!
Mark
Bremen Pipe Smoker Mark no question about it my friend and that would be tremendous!!!🍺🍺😁
Ed
GrandpaCavendish
Ed, my good friend!
Mark
Bon Voyage, Mark! Have a great vacation in France.
Good to see you again, friend. Enjoyed this video as well. Two of my favorites: coffee and tobacco! Cheers, Mark
Hello Mark,
that was once again an excellent and interesting video of you.
Take care! Be well!
Mark
Bremen Pipe Smoker Mark, that's realy a very good news. Thanks for this information.
Kind regates from our montains.
Michael!
For me it’s the only lighter that will reliably work in the upcoming New England winter and it does not ruin your week when you lose it in the snow somewhere.
And yeah...saw that...they probably might think, we may watch the website...but not the YTPC... lol
Ronny is on duty...I'll be there in about three hours...I'll tell him...
Take care! Be well!
Mark
Great to see you mark very interesting video also .That is the perfect room for a pipe a cup of coffee and a good book.👍🏻
Perfect review, love Solani ABF and have been wondering about this particular MacBaren flake. Thx!
Hey Scott!
Thanks for taking the time...and very wise words...couldn't agree more! Take care! And be well, my friend! Mark
Exellent job on those tobaccos Mark. I will give the burley a try.I hope you do show your tobacco Mark in the future. Thanks, Al
Mark
Hi Mark, thanks for the recommendation, I'm always happy to try a new blend. Keep up the informative videos my friend, always a pleasure.
Thanks for taking the time...and sharing your experience! Much appreciated!
Tae care! Hope, you're well!
Mark
Hi Mark,
The tobaccos are not my taste, but your tamper fits perfectly with your interior. I like them.
Very entertaining video, a really fast hour😄
All the best to Bremen.
Andreas
Andreas, my friend!
Thanks for stopping by...and kind words!
Next review gonna be shorter...and perhaps more up your alley... :-)
Take care! Be well!
Take care and be well,
Corey
Im in the US, and I agree with you, this company is right there in your town, how hard would it be to produce enough to send it out to both the US and your own country, why hold it back from your own countrymen, and why would they do that is beyond me.
Excellent reviews! I'm game for the new hh burley. Take care, we've missed you. Best wishes to you and yours... and your fledgling tobacco husbandry.
I’m a big fan of solani 660 but they do have terrible packaging. It would be interesting to hear your technique on clinching seeing as you do it so naturally and are able to talk through your pipe without spewing ash! Great video!
Thank you for the detailed review. I'll have to give a Mac Baren's Burley Flake a try. Great to see you are growing your own.
Thank you so much for stopping by, my friend!
Hope, you're well!
Take care!
Mark
LA PipeSmoker> Thats a tremendous tobacco for sure as is the Wessex burley flake, Best greets Sir,
Quality! The prodigious look of disgust on your face toward the square, paper, insert ;) Great vid' as always, friend!
Steve
Thank You for the answer about meerschaum! My experience is with African meerschaum, which I really like. Will see about the Turkish one. Cheers. Peter
Thanks for taking the time!
And...yeah...give it a shot...you certainly won't regret it..
Take care! Be well!
Mark
Just trying out the hh burly flake right now, quite a good blend. By the way that is a great book shelf behind you love the look of it ! Have a great day
Ach, wie gut war dieses Video! Sehr interessant. ABF is one of my favorite tobaccos, and I have a few tins of the HH Burley Flake which I have yet to open, so this was very spot on for me. Danke schön, Mark, und entschuldigung für meine schlechte Deutsche ^___^
Hector, another Burley aficionado out there,? Ps In principle, we shall start taking German lesson, don't we?
Yassssss, I love Burleys! But I am not always in the mood for them ^___^ Oh yes, I'm forgetting my German so badly...! Cheers :-)
Your German is excellent, my friend! And thanks a lot for taking the time...and sharing your thoughts!
Take care! Be well!
Mark
I lived in Berlin for a few years so that's why I can speak some :-)
Cheers!
Héctor
Regards
Andrew Bolderson
Mark
Hello dear Mark, do you find that Virginia is less sweet tobacco in Mirschum then Braber?
Thanks for taking the time! Well...actually, no...I don't think so...maybe, if you go too hot on it...what might happen, since the Meerschaum doesn't care about the heat...but the virginia will... :-)
Take care! Be well!
Mark
Mark
It's the same with Germains great in depth detailed video thanks for sharing stay safe
I love Solani I want to try this to see the difference. Good to see you my friend!
Take care, my friend!
Have you tried Germain's Rich Dark Flake? I lucked out and got some and I really like it alot.
No...never had it never have...lol Unfortunately...those Germains are really hard to get...
Great video Mark, how you handle your pipes is your affair and no one should critique it.
Be well, Ron
Thanks for that, my friend! And for taking the time!
Take care! Be well!
Mark
Stallone
Thanks for that, my friend! And ...well...not so sure about the regulations...right now, I think the US market seems to be a bit more difficult with the new regulations...but perhaps, you're right and they wanted to be quick on that, before it's gettig even harder...since the "special editions" of several companies are already struck by that...but...I don't know...
Take care! Hope, you're well!
Mark
This was a great video, as many have said. Have you tried 4th Generation 1931 flake by Erik Stokkebye?
Thank you so much for taking the time! And...no...haven't had a chance so far..
Take care! Be well!
Mark
Hi Mark how are you?
did you buy them all new, your beautiful meerschaum pipes, or some were already smoked?
Sorry for being late...was on vcation...
Yeah...bought em all new, unsmoked and clear white... :-)
Thanks for watching, my friend! And take care!
Mark
Dont warry Mark, did you have a good holiday? Did you even make some nice videos?
Thank you so much for that, my friend! So much appreciated!
... well... that's a Hamilton Jazzmaster maestro automatic...
Take care! Be well!
Mark
Mark
What a wonderful video ! Bravo Mark! Ciao 👋 S
as always another phenomenal video.
Those pipes are amazing! Hope to own one of each one day.
Thanks a lot for that, my friend! I gonna follow your hint...
Take care! Be well!
Mark
Thanks for sharing, Herr Mark.
Wow Mark! 55 minutes! You're an orating machine! Lol. Enjoyed the video, you get a chance show us your tobacco plants. Take care!
Great seeing you again. Always enjoy your vids when I have time. By the way is that a secret room behind the bookshelf? :)
Hey Magician!
Good, to have you here!
Yeah...you're right! Guess, you can't hide a secret door from a Magicians eye...lol...But no big secret behind it...just garden chairs and some moving boxes...filled with tobaco tins... :-)
Take care, my friend! Hope, you're well!
Don't care about beeing late...I'm always late!...LOL
Well...the skull is just from ceramic...reminds me, that we have to use our time carefully...
Yeah...lol...agreed!
Take care! Be well!
Mark
Haha square paper in a round tin....Mark's pet peeve. That is crazy Lol I got a good laugh out of how you were able to handle that! The title of this video should be "The things that grinds Mark's gears." Lol
I think the most diference comes from the fact solani use a slight licorice topping, which macbaren don't....
Great comparison, hope to try these some day.
solani is sold in Germany? Because I cant find it anywhere in the US, every sight says discontinued.
Yeah...it is. No problem, to get it here...
Thanks for stopping by...and take care!
Mark
the burley flake?
Very interesting. The HH BF is part of my basic rotation since a long time ago. I'll try the Solani one day. Many thanks for this other video!
Here in Israel the whole line of HH is missing, thank god for Smokingpipes.com, customs service & international mail.
Just open a tin of Burley flake, and it is a bit refined for my palette. Maybe I am just accustomed to their wonderful Golden Blend 🤷🏻♂️
Great video once again Mark........Take care ny Friend.
Thanks Mark. Shame we’re not getting the new blends in Europe.
one source in Danish Pipeshop informed this new HH will be available at their shop in coming October
...what's that? Scandinavian commercial break? LOL...
Thanks for the hint, my friend!
Mark
I presume The Y T Content creator Mr Janez(Pipes &Tobak does have some more detailed information on this subject, Stay Cool Mark MbG, Paul
Hello there Mark. Another really good and informative video. I have not tried the C&D or Solani yet but I have a few tins of the Mac Baren Burley Flake. Might crack the tins now. Looking forward to the next video. Take care.
