- What's up, people! I'm back with another ABBA reaction from their self-titled 1975 album, and this time we listen to "Hey, Hey Helen," a tune that had me intrigued about the themes just from the title. Also there's some amazing vocal work from the ladies, as well as a general funky vibe overall. So join me for some more top-notch early ABBA! Cheers!

0:06 Haha, it sounds like I'm saying "mamma mia" here as a general expression. But seriously, it works in both contexts!
It's looking at a marriage break-up that the woman has initiated, she is now having to negotiate life as a single parent. "Can you make it alone? Yes you can". I think people jump on the lines about the children crying and asking for Daddy and take it to mean it's judging Helen's actions in a negative way but I don't think that is the case at all. As they sing later "but you're right, you had to take a second chance, so you fight to find your freedom". So the message of the song is it might be hard but you had to do what was right, you can make it. It's one of my favourite Abba songs from this period, it's nice to see them tackling a subject with a bit more weight and it's a great tune, the ladies sound amazing, there's that great funky guitar in the middle, great!
Ah, I see, so I was onto something in one sense but "seeing" it from the wrong side. Cheers, appreciate the corrective, Mark!
ARTE, GENIOS. CUNA DEL POP. 🤩🤩🤩
Strong song with Glam-Rock vibes!
This had a 'glam rock' feel to it which was still prevalent in the charts at that time....here in the UK anyway. It's a got that rock groove...
Yes I agree I remember one of there tours and beorg I think that's his name almost had like ace Frehley costume Les Paul and all its not my kind of music however it takes me back to more innocent days peace and love lloydy
Nice reaction man. This song kicks ass. Such exciting melodies! Glad you liked it.
I think this is a pretty good song!
U can girl! ... Let's go Helen
ABBA rocks!
❤️🇨🇱👍
Hay brother of all the most unlikely fan of ABBA was sid vicious he was in a airport and walked up to the I think one of the girls for autograph and they ran screeming fearing for there lives Lydon remanicing was in stitches ABBA was the biggest thing since Beatles all sorts loved them my brother being one and he spent a good deal of his life being a bouncer I put on dancing queen just for him always enjoy content even if it not me u always make me happy Matt so thankyou as always peace and love lloydy
Another unexpected ABBA fan was Lemmy Kilmister, frontman of Motörhead. He put Chiquita in his all time top 10 in the NME, citing Benny's piano outro as the best keyboards he'd ever heard on a pop song.
Really good track. I'd say that this album is a major step forward, with a couple of not so good songs for good measure. But keep going with this journey, the rewards are huge.
Rock qualities here especially on the instrumental section and the vocals towards the end of the song.
Hello again dear friend
and happy to see you discovering more ABBA songs
It's fantastic that You follow the sequence of "ABBA" album
"hey hey Helen" (1975)
is a good rock style song,
interesting lyrics, great piano, beautiful voices and chorus
it's the second track of their third: "ABBA" (one of the three best)
here's "hey hey Helen" on a TV special in U.S. 1975 (first time to ABBA in U.S.) where you can see them with their special costumes

Not a well known ABBA song.
Musically fantastic, i love this track, but lyrically… well, let’s just say that Björn is a product of his generation. Even on their last album, 2021’s Voyage, there are lyrics that have been described as “problematic”, so i don’t think it’s just a matter of the 1970s’ moral landscape.
Hahaha, the "product of his generation" line made me laugh. And it reminded me, my maternal grandpa would occasionally say things that would make me raise an eyebrow, and my mom would say, "Yeah, your grandpa sometimes forgets that it's not the 1940s anymore."
