@somaric1 There are days where I just and strum the chords and it puts a smile on my face. If you take open D7 and Dm shapes on the guitar first position and play them on the top three bass strings of the mando you have all you need for a cool blues progression. Those shapes become 7th Chords. Try it. Try all the shapes you know, some work really well. This is the best site for learning. I already have three great songs under my belt.
I’ve been playing guitar for quite some time. Recently my wife asked me t by her a mandolin to learn on. I purchased a Loar f-style for 425 bucks, it was in the 650 range new. So anyway I want to purchase another for myself to learn on, but an a-style. I’m considering maybe the 500 dollar range, not sure what I can find used, so it may be new. I would prefer a longer scale neck. Any advice from your experience. Thanks, Steve and Selina in Alabama.
Hi Steve - I’ve been playing guitar for some time as well, and I came across Baron’s mandolin videos a while back, and also wanted an A style to learn on. Baron has a video on the differences in mandos of various prices. I went with his suggestion, buying a Kentucky 150, which new is right in your ballpark. I’m having a blast. Hope you’ve found a good one- Andrew in Connecticut.
Your channel has been a blessing during these tough times. Thank you.
