I thought this would be a 25+ minute long video that gets me scribbling down crazy amounts of notes while watching it. Getting this all so clean and concise packaged in under 7 minutes is quite a feat Ellen! You made it all look so easy. I will definitely try this! (Maybe in time for Maker Faire? 🤔 )
Thanks so much Phil, that's one of the best compliments I could think of! It would be so cool if you give it a go :D If you want to make it a bit easier for yourself you could leave out the lining. It'll look just as good from the outside and saves you quite a bit of trouble. Okay, a lot of trouble. Basically it reduces the amount of work by 2/3, haha. If you get stuck you know where to find me!
Well making things difficult on myself because I don't know what I'm doing is kinda my thing, so I'll go with lining. The reward of a really finished looking piece is worth all the headache and time spent quietly weeping late at night because I bit off more than I could chew haha!
Great. I love your teaching and calm voice. Most of all the flat felled combo with French seams. Serged seams itch me. So this will be a Happy relief for me.
Haha, all you need now is a tree and some lights ;) Maybe for the real Christmas I'll get you the French version of my big book of sewing techniques, I get reminded how little I know whenever I see it :p
Haha yes, that's the beauty of editing, I can cut out all that time I was just staring at the pieces trying to figure out what to do next and in what order ;)
This is awesome Ellen! The jacket looks amazing and it's mind boggling how many steps and decisions and processes you have to make to come out with something like this. Hope I can try something like it one day :) I take my hat off to you!
So great Ellen! Great job in new territory, I'm so impressed with people who can do what you do. I wish my wife had time to sew, she's pretty good (made clothes for our daughter when she was young) and I'll be showing her this video for sure. Keep pushing the boundaries on what you can make and you'll never be bored!
I took a closer look at your channel, and since it's not just sewing (which is some sort of magic to me) I became a subscriber. I look forward to watching you grow and accomplish great works of making. Good luck!
Breaking this up into separate detail videos is a really great idea. You make it seem so effortless! How cool is this! So awesome Ellen. (Sorry I missed commenting in May, I've watched this video like 5 times.) I'm really hoping to make something cool with my sewing machine some day hahahha. (Heidi)
So nice to hear that you like it Heidi! And yeah, I figured not everyone would be interested in the detailed sewing techniques, so the separate videos seemed like a good idea. If you end up getting out your sewing machine at some point, let me know! I'd be happy to help in any way I can :)
Brilliant work! I really liked the edit and your explanations. I never realized just how much problem solving is involved in a project like this. The jackets came out absolutely great!
Thanks so much Alex! Like many other crafts, its the order of operations that complicates things. One big puzzle ;) I got to know my seam ripper quite well while making the test jacket for myself, haha.
First sowing video I’ve ever watched. Great Job!!! I believe Laura had some items on her wish list regarding work clothing with a specific women’s fit.....
Wow, well I'm honoured that you chose to watch mine then :) Yeah, I also considered making pants (with proper pockets), but those are a lot harder to get to fit right. Especially if you've never met the person you're making them for, haha
Whoa that was awesome. I've just started with a sewing machine and can see how cool it would be to make things with fabric. Yours is the first channel Ive seen that inspires me to sew. Thank you and I look forward to seeing more of your creations.
Wow, that's a great compliment, thank you! There's definitely more sewing videos coming (among other things), including some that are a bit more beginner-friendly projects :)
To quote Pippi Longstocking: "I've never done it before, so I think I can do it" ;) I guess I could if I really wanted to, it would just be a lot of work. My own list of things I want to make is long enough already, haha.
Ellen you’re amazing I could never do anything as good as this you are extremely talented and a wonderful person. I’m so glad we got to meet up at Makers Central 😘 #makersgonnamake #inspiretocreate
This is awesome! I think your jacket made it into the thumbnail of Laura's most recent video. :) I'd also keep a look out for her new video with Adam Savage. Probably going to show more of the jacket in action!
i didn't realize you made Lauras jacket from scratch wow great job. also nice video production.. i think it was better to have separate video showing how to do certain things in more detail. they will come in handy for future videos also. Iv'e only used the sewing machine once and it was to make a custom sun blind that would fit over my sons pram when he was little. i have a lot more ideas where i could find it handy.
Thanks John. Hope you have a go on the sewing machine again sometime. I'm planning an 'intro to machine sewing' video, after that there will be no more excuses ;)
Haha, thanks. It's from one of those 'T-shirt of the day' websites, so the place I got it from no longer has it. But usually the same design gets run on several different sites so I'd suggest you have a google around.

Haha, fair enough. Sounds like we both enjoy a challenge!
Ain't that what it's all about? I'll keep you posted while I'm descending into madness trying to sew all the parts together
what cloth is it? Thanks so much
I wish this video had a 'Love' button, not just Like. Seriously awesome stuff 😊
So inspirational with what you have done for Laura
unbelievable, without knowing the mass of Laura you have sewn a jacket that seems to be tailored on her body. Ellen you are simply awesome 👏
I did my best based on pictures and her T-shirt size, but I was really surprised by how well it fits her! Sometimes you just need to be a bit lucky ;)
Crafts With Ellen it fits her perfect 👌
Great. I love your teaching and calm voice. Most of all the flat felled combo with French seams. Serged seams itch me. So this will be a Happy relief for me.
This turned out fabulous, Ellen! Amazing attention to detail and what a sweet and thoughtful gift! 👏
Thank you Becky! I discovered along the way that it's the details that make a project like this really come together :)
Seeing Laura’s face when you gave her this jacket was fantastic! It’s such a quality jacket, great to see how you made it. Cheers Ellen.👍🏻
you are a sewing warrior!!! that jacket looks amazing! thank you for sharing your technique. I can't wait to try making my own style of jacket
Well that is a beautiful Jacket! 😍😎👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Inspiring and great work. You must be a big fan knowing that Laura can't live without pen and sketchbook! :)
Haha yes, I've been watching her videos for quite some time now ;)
Great story, great craftsmanship, and great video editing!
Thank you, thank you, and thank you!
Stellar skills !
Thank you Alex :)
It's awesome to find you in the comments Alex!
FANTASTIC JOB!
Thanks Giaco!
Ellen Thanks for the project even if I dont know anything on your techniques it's very motivated for me, thanks again
François
WOW!!!! I really like your sewing tutorials. Not that I’m going to attempt this, but I enjoy watching how it comes together. You r very talented.
It came out so good! Makes me want to try sewing up some clothes. And I agree, Laura is the best!
(Who the heck would downvote this???)
Nice jacket! Looks super practical AND stylish!
Thank you!
Three videos from you in a single day, it's like Christmas !! Awesome work as always. And now I realize how little I know about sewing...😊
Haha, all you need now is a tree and some lights ;) Maybe for the real Christmas I'll get you the French version of my big book of sewing techniques, I get reminded how little I know whenever I see it :p
Crafts With Ellen I have some books I never look at, for the same reason😉
Awesome video, awesome jacket and who doesn't love Laura Kampf. Very well done!
She's awesome, so she deserved an awesome jacket
Great video, great jacket and two great creators!
Fantastic jacket Ellen...love the photo of you and Laura at the end :)
Thanks so much Annie :)
You made that look so easy! I learned to sow at an early age, I’m impressed! The order of things can be so tricky!!!
Haha yes, that's the beauty of editing, I can cut out all that time I was just staring at the pieces trying to figure out what to do next and in what order ;)
You did an excellent job, both on the jacket and the video!
this is such a magical piece of art. i'm so glad i got to see it in person!!!
I'm so glad I got to see YOU in person
Great video, wonderful jacket and what a great idea in the first place! Laura has been a huge inspiration for me too.
This is awesome!! I don’t see at all so it all looks like magic to me!! Laura wire it well! You are awesome Ellen! 🤗🤗🤗🤗🌲🦊🌲
Thanks Claire! It's just like anything else: one step at a time :)
This is awesome Ellen! The jacket looks amazing and it's mind boggling how many steps and decisions and processes you have to make to come out with something like this. Hope I can try something like it one day :) I take my hat off to you!
Nice look!
Excellent! Very cool Ellen. I think you have inspired me to pull out my old machine.
Awesome video Ellen! It was certainly a cool Jacket!
Thank you George :)
Well that must have put you on cloud nine, such attention to detail. It looked very complicated to make, yet an elegant design. Beautiful work. 👊👊👊
Amazing work Ellen! 👍👊 Two beautiful jackets! 😍
Thank you Fred!
The hacket is awesome. Amazing work Ellen :)
Thank you :)
This is a WONDERFUL build! Well done, especially for stepping out of your comfort zone for the lining! 😀
Thanks Geoffrey. I do enjoy a good challenge every now and then, and when they work out it makes it all that much better!
Crafts With Ellen Even though I don't wear gloves, imagine what a pair of Crafts With Ellen gloves would be like.....!?
Interesting... I have knitted gloves before, but never sewn them. So many things to try!
That came out AWESOME!!! Great Job
Thanks Jamie!
Phenomenal job Ellen, when I saw it in person I didn’t even realise it was hand made the quality was so good!
Thank you!
Nicely done - thank you !
That's completely awesome. 👌
Thanks :)
I was lucky enough to see the jacket in person and it is stunning. Fantastic work Ellen. Your experience makes it look so simple!
Beautiful jacket! 🙀
That looks so great. Must have felt amazing when it fit her perfectly!
It really did! I was blown away, hers fits her better than mine fits me! I got a bit lucky there :)
Ellen!! You’re amazing!! So glad I got to see this masterpiece up close 👌 truly outstanding work!
Aww thanks Joe
Such a great project Ellen! So fun to see it in person at Makers Central!
Thank you Anne! It was fantastic to be able to give it to her in person :D
So great Ellen! Great job in new territory, I'm so impressed with people who can do what you do. Thank you so much Rick. You're absolutely right, so much left to learn and discover!
I took a closer look at your channel, and since it's not just sewing (which is some sort of magic to me) I became a subscriber. I look forward to watching you grow and accomplish great works of making. Good luck!
This is Beautiful.
This was awesome! I love seeing Makers inspire each other and you have me wanting to get my machine out. It looks great!
So fantastic Ellen! 😍
Very cool project! Laura posted a link to this video, and it is just so neat!
Thanks so much Stephen!
Fantastic job Ellen!! 😊👍
hey❗️ this is a BIG story and very nice JOB🍀❤️
Thanks so much Lukas!

Came over from Laura's channel. Awesome video and beautiful work! Keep it up!
Thank you Matthew!

Wow!
Great project Ellen! Echt mooi gedetailleerd met de randen en rits!
Bedankt Sebastiaan!
Such a great video! Nice one Ellen!
Love this! Just the inspiration I need to start making my own!
Whoo, mission accomplished! If you get stuck on the ribbing (or anything else) you know how to find me :)
I'm sure I'll be asking lots of questions!
Great video! Love your work!
Awesome Ellen!
Dankje Marcel :)
Great work !!!
Thanks!
Awesome work and it looks great. I smiled about the sticker on you jacket :-)
Haha, well spotted ;)
Awesome.
Wow Ellen, this is an incredible project. Also, this is the first video I’ve seen in your channel and is enough for me to subscribe!
Thank you so much Mike, that is great to hear! Happy to have you stick around :D
You make it look so easy, years of experience I expect. My efforts with a hand cranked Singer, let's say, look more industrial by comparison.
Great job on the voice over and the video. I love this jacket!
Thank you Dan!
So very cool!
Thanks Andy :)
HERMOSA JACKET. Saludos desde México.
Awesome!
Thanks Sam!
congratulations! good job! !
Thank you!
Crafts With Ellen could you design celebrity's costumes too?
To quote Pippi Longstocking: "I've never done it before, so I think I can do it" ;) I guess I could if I really wanted to, it would just be a lot of work. My own list of things I want to make is long enough already, haha.
Crafts With Ellen waiting new tasks impatiently 😊
How cute you pronounce "S". I really like it.
And I'm not a sewing expert by no means, but it turned out great.👍
Ellen you’re amazing I could never do anything as good as this you are extremely talented and a wonderful person. I’m so glad we got to meet up at Makers Central 😘 #makersgonnamake #inspiretocreate
Aww, thanks so much Dave! It was great to meet you too, I'm sure we'll see each other again another time!
This is awesome! I think your jacket made it into the thumbnail of Laura's most recent video. :)
I'd also keep a look out for her new video with Adam Savage. Probably going to show more of the jacket in action!
Yeah, I spotted it in the thumbnail :) Can't wait to see it. Not that I needed another reason to be excited to watch their one day build, haha
i didn't realize you made Lauras jacket from scratch wow great job. also nice video production.. i think it was better to have separate video showing how to do certain things in more detail. they will come in handy for future videos also. Crafts With Ellen your gonna be my source of sewing information 😉
Ah Love it!! 😍😍
That’s beautiful! Subscribing!
Thank you Roy! Good to have you on board :D
Nice👍
If that doesn’t deserve a sub, I don’t know what does.
Nederland! +10 punten!!
Please can you tell us what type of fabric you used for lining, outer and neck-bottom. I LOVE the burgundy one.
Oke ik ben jaloers! Creatieve mensen for the winning! En nederland natuurlijk weer 10 punten maar ziet er echt super strak uit joh!
Haha, dankjewel! Heeft wat uurtjes gekost, maar dan heb je ook wat ;)
Yo, I think Laura wore it on the new tested one day build video.
Yeah I saw it, super cool :D
Hey. Nice video. Can you please tell me what sewing machine you are using in this video?
I love the jacket, ... But I fall in love with your t-shirt 😂 can it be bought somewhere?
Haha, thanks. It's from one of those 'T-shirt of the day' websites, so the place I got it from no longer has it. But usually the same design gets run on several different sites so I'd suggest you have a google around.
You ready to try making a leather bomber next?
I guess I could, the process would be largely the same. But I've got lots of other projects on the list as well :)
how much fabric you need for that ??? I want to make something like that 😻😻😻 if you can tell me plz 😻😻
muzukashii
Awesome!
Thanks!
Awesome!
Thanks Alex!
