Hank Parker has a great tactic for dirt shallow spinnerbaits. Not only does a stealthy presentation get fish in the boat, which implies low trajectory roll casts in close combat situations, but the additional subtle key to this presentation has to do with dialing in the retrieve. HP is notorious for throwing the Indiana/Colorado combination for extra thump, but like Matt says they can be spooky. This is where a waking retrieve with tandem willows will induce a reaction strike.
These are basically my most productive presentations for pike and perch here in Germany, always cool thumbnails..I need to step my own thumbnail game up
Yes, sir. I'm in Oklahoma, there's always some muddy dirty water some where... caught so many bass last year with those painted blade spinnerbaits... Now its time for breakfast. Thanks Matt
Wow!! May have to take notes on this one. Definitely have to watch it several more times. Matt, you did a GREAT job explaining this for this self taught (by YT Vids) newbie with little time in the water so far.
My most productive baits for muddy water are the 6th Sense Swank and a bright red Chatterbait or of course a 3/8 black flipping jig with a summercraw rage craw dipped in chartreuse.
Such a great video as always and the second I clicked it I gave it a thumbs up. I was wondering if you could do a video comparing and the behaviors of (and fishing strategies) for largemouth vs smallmouth vs spotted bass. Thank you. Stay well and tight lines.
Caught 4 bass in an hour with a fire craw color lipless crank yesterday. It's true those bright bold colors are killer in muddy water which is most of the fishery I fished
Im trying to soak up every bit of info for spring before I make the trip to Clearlake! Really hoping to connect with a big one in the few days I am there!!
I love you guys down south you have some of the best fishing knowledge I’ve ever gotten in my life and It makes envious of you I’m up north in the Midwest over in Iowa where we’re always behind on the prespawn but when it happens it’s my favorite time of the year
Just got my kayak for fishing. Can’t wait for the spring. Also, getting my tackle up to par in the off season. Can’t wait for the ice to melt and get out there.
On my local clear lake, I love it when the water gets muddy this time of year. Especially if the sun comes out. Just like Matt said, they’ll be nearly flopping on the banks. Just run up the muddiest creek you see and beat those warm spots down. I have had times in this situation where there fish were there, but would only hit a bait sitting still. Water was still a bit cold in the main lake. Had to drop shot it in dirt shallow water with a light weight, but it produced.
Thanks Matt! Not sure how much experience you have fishing after ice out given where you have lived but would love to see a video on that for us northern guys, and you have time (i still have two months here in Maine)
I started using the california swim jig paired with a d walker trailer after watching one of your videos and it put more quality fish in the boat than any other lure I fished all year. Its now my favorite go to confidence bait.
Hi Matt and Tim ...newbie here...love you guys videos...so much information....wanted to tell yall... me and 3 of my friends are comin to chic the first weekend of April ...gonna spend 3 days hopefully catching some good bass....maybe we'll get lucky and see you guys down there...
This was an awesome video!! Everyone always covers rising muddy spring water but not full-time murky lakes. Do you and Tim remember Black Butte Res. in NorCal? I’ve never seen that lake with more than 18” vis. This is the first time I’ve heard how to fish it. I’ve been throwing super bright and bold all the time and not doing that well(accept for late winter & spring with bright red). Now I know I should be trying more natural colors since murky is their “norm”. Thanks a lot and thanks to you both for all your great content. It’s very appreciated.
Great video and information. Thank you! It's unusually cold here this week and I'm itchin' to get back to fishing. I'm organizing tackle and preparing rods and reels. Thank you for turning me on to squarebills. Great bait! (BTW, your link to the Dobyn's Fury crankbait rod has an error).
Great video Matt! I’ll be heading out from So Cal to middle Tennessee this up coming February. A very dicey time of year! Why do I torture myself every year ( was in TN for a week last January ) and just wait for spring? Firstly, the challenge. Second, I love throwing blade baits, tailspins and giant swimbaits. Third, why the hell not!
Great topic cant wait til the end of the month and first of March its gonna get stupid here in N.C. 35 and 40 lb bags of Giants and dirt shallow because of all the rain
Thanks Matt Allen. Does this apply to 45 degree water also? And in March I've did really well on giants in yoohoo water with a bright blue but only about a 2 week to a month period every year. Depends on Weather and water level. Ps.. love those clear lid boxes
Im a shore fisherman with no shad fisheries but i still only do willow blades . Caught my biggest fish on 1/2 oz sexy shadish color willow bladed spinner bait.
Good vids keep them coming brother everything y’all have been hit with this week is going to be in south LA cross the lake from New Orleans and it’s going to be cold and muddy and dumping really cold water down on top of the warmer water we had that was beginning to rise in temp what do all think would be the best way to fish it
Great vid,Matt(its bassfishinBrian-changed my chan name,&so far it was a wise move)-here in WV,im still winter fishin targeting Walleye &Sauger & just got a nice Sauger on a Kietech 4inch swing impact this morning b4 work in 36 degree water;29degree air temp.im PUMPED for prespawn, though!! #GetRedCrankbaitBoxReady
Thanks again for the great vids. Any advice for water with less that 1 foot of visibility because of blue-green algae? From May till the end of the season, my lake looks like it does in my profile pic, or worse.
If the timing of this wasn’t absolutely perfect. A huge storm has made the water in the lake I fish like chocolate milk. Really cold also, but even in summer this will be very helpful.
Could we possibly get a video on how different variables play into how deep or shallow a lipped bait will run I was mainly wondering if current has any affect on depth ( for example dose cranking into current make a bait dive deeper?) Thanks I’ve learned so much Much love from Spokane Washington
No black and chartreuse for the mud? The spinnerbait in that color, or even beatle jig spinner if close to the bank, is my favorite color. Do you like fire tiger color?
Its raining a ton here in WNC how would I fish the bank since there is like 50 feet or more out of the water and hardly any cover. Should I go and fish bridge pillings or long points or just find dirt shallow coves and fish them
Love your show. Great stuff. BASS charter member and 80 yrs old but still bass fish 2 or 3 times a week in the ponds. You keep telling us to see this and that in the description below. I can’t find it.
Matt, have you ever tried the BioSpawn Exoswims on a Swim Jig? I'm gonna order some of those California Swim Jigs and am wondering if those will give me the action I want, or if I should just order some more Keitechs.
“Hey guys, Matt Allen here”
Music to my ears
Tactical bassin and coffee on a Friday morning, can’t be beat man!! Weekend knowledge at its best!!!
Agreed. Cant wait for prespawn..I live in western mass so I got some time before the hard water is gone
Yes sir, negative 5 degree weather here in Nebraska no Chance of fishing, this is my go to! 😆
@@mattlaflamme1162 ah man. I’m in NC, we’re weeks away from them giants moving on up!!
@@MrDoItAll91 I'm in nc too we should fish together sometime!
@@robertjaynes4322 hey man. My email is in the ‘about’ section on my RUclips channel!! I’m definitely down with that!!
Spring can’t get here soon enough, ice is thick here.

Hey Matt,
Love the quick flowing, easy to process videos you put out! You’re the master when it comes to anything Bass talk!
Perfect video for my weather and water characteristics this weekend here in Illinois! Thank you.
Headed to Guntersville this weekend, and it's been raining and cold. Perfect timing.
TB,is the best,well done
The most knowledgeable videos on RUclips as far as fishing is concerned.
Some bait looks so cool, like it's worth collecting.
Girl here: I know right? But you have to have a good fish story to go with them to make it perfect. 👌🏼🎣
People do for the more expensive and/or rare lures.
I save my retired lures that look cool and have them displayed. Especially the more expensive one.
Yay! I fish muddy water allll the time. Great video guys!
Gotta love some Tacticalbassin before work. Thanks guys
These are basically my most productive presentations for pike and perch here in Germany, always cool thumbnails..I need to step my own thumbnail game up
after switching from trout fishing to bass 3 years ago finally tried cranking with some square bills and finally started landing some decent bass
Yes, sir. I'm in Oklahoma, there's always some muddy dirty water some where... caught so many bass last year with those painted blade spinnerbaits... Now its time for breakfast. Thanks Matt

In the first 2 minutes you answered a question I have had for a while.
great vid!! love the spinnerbait in muddy water!
Would love to see guys try Banks Lake down in south GA.
This is great timing considering it's rained for the past week and my first tournament is Saturday. It's a super clear lake so it's going to be tough.

Cobbosseecontee needs to happen.... and Moosehead....
What about the chatterbait, where does that fit in or do you throw it at all
Can't wait to start fishing shallow in my ponds!
Glad to see you playing around with some Rapala baits lately.

Great tips

Awesome stuff
The CA Delta is pretty muddy right now, should we shallow crank this weekend?! Thx guys
Legit just retied some of my baits . Hitting muddy water right now 😂
Thx Matt!🤙👊

How do you even dislike this video!😂
Keep it TB, you guys rock!🔥
Colorado blades on a spinnerbait does great in muddy water, more vibration.
Would love to hear you're opinion on the new swing bill crankbaits.
Awesome video, thanks very informative. I think I heard some herons at the end. I hope they are headed north. Lol
Have you guys tried the Jabber Jaw or the Axis yet? If so what’s your opinion on it
Matt what do y’all think of 6 sense fishing lures and rods

When and how do you alter the weed guards on your jigs? Thanks!!

Thanks I’ve learned so much
Much love from Spokane Washington
A yellow Spinnerbait is the only lure you need!! :)
Out here in connecticut waiting for ice out
Are you guys coming back to clear lake in March?
Great video where you guys based
No black and chartreuse for the mud? The spinnerbait in that color, or even beatle jig spinner if close to the bank, is my favorite color. Do you like fire tiger color?
What baitcasting reel do you like
I’m hoping to at least get some Crappie fishing in this year. Fishing is the only thing that gives me any hope.
Its raining a ton here in WNC how would I fish the bank since there is like 50 feet or more out of the water and hardly any cover. Should I go and fish bridge pillings or long points or just find dirt shallow coves and fish them
Can y'all please do a scale review. I trust y'alls opinion over anyone else's.
Can you guys do a video on low visibility fishing? Most of the lakes I fish are naturally less than 2 feet of visibility.

Matt do you ever fish chatterbaits this time of year? I catch tons of fish here on guntersville on a chatterbait starting in early spring.
What are your thoughts about a 13 fishing jabber jaw in this situation?
Unfortunately it’s getting really cold right now in Texas right when the pre spawn is starting 😢
Yeah, that's happening over most of the country but won't last long 👍
@@tacticalbassin hopefully it doesn’t last too long I finally got on a good red square bill and s-waver bite just the other day.
