I always seem to learn at least one hack from each of your videos, thanks, today it was cleaning to electric outlets prior to connection!!!
That is such a nice 5th wheel. The paint job is great. Thnx!
Hey Chad, I have never thought of using contact cleaner for the pedestal outlet but I will be bringing my can of DEOXIT D5 going forward. Especially when we go to Pismo Beach in September for 11 days. I also must say that full body paint on your rig is BEAUTIFUL! Thanks for taking us along on your journey!
That was a beautiful ride and destination. That's for taking us along. I hope you don't have alot of problems with the sand.
Thanks for covering a travel day from start to finish. I love traveling as much as being set up at a lovely campsite.
I sincerely envy your way of life! I know that everything has its challenges. But what a way to live and enjoy life!
Y’all need to have a shirt with “always check your checklist” on it! Classic!! Safe travels y’all!!!
Leveling is another reason I like full timing in a motorhome. I don’t have to even go outside to do any of it. Thanks for the video.
Checklists come in handy. Thank you for letting us see your travel day pack up. Safe travels.
Chad, I am so happy you are young enough to do all the stooping/bending/connection/plugin/and what ever while you to and Daisy travel full time!
Love this episode. I feel like you guys are back!!
Love the music you guys play on your videos.
If y'all had air horns you could TOOT ... On your exit 😁😁😁
Truck and trailer this size definitely should. And if the trailer had air brakes you'd never have to use chocks at the campsite.
We were at that same campground in 2018. We loved the hospitality of that area. We also loved the beachfront site. Thanks for the video.
What campground is this one ??
Hi you guys, LOVE your videos, have been following you for quite a while now.
Quick suggestion: I always clip my breakaway cable to the truck, not the hitch, just in case the hitch were to rip out, still attached to the kingpin.
Love you guys!
I'm a little late watching this week, it was another race weekend. All in all a pretty good reminder to use your checklist every time. Keep the good stuff coming guys.
I'm jealous of how easily your tank valves opened. I basically have to hook mine up to my truck to pull them open (and closed).
What?
@@SpykersB My black and grey tank valves are incredibly difficult to open and close. I'm jealous his are so fluid.
Oh my goodness this is where the Nicolus Sparks movie was filmed!!!!!! Romance in the air❤
I don't have an RV yet, but I am learning a ton from you!!! Thank you for your videos!
You are so welcome! Thanks for watching! 😊
That place looks awesome!! Hope y’all had a blast
Love camping there! Enjoy and safe travels.
OBX is our favorite place. So many things to see and do. An incredible place.
We always pack a snacked box,it’s a tackle box with Cheese ,crackers, peanuts, candy.
Glad you’re having a great experience with Grand Design. I had a new 2019 Grand Design Reflection and it was a disaster. The tandem axles were misaligned (wheels towed in on one side and canted out on the other side), substituted 1/2” floor board in lieu of 3/4” spec (this resulted in the edge trim rubbing a hole on the main floor laminate). The plastic vent cover gear box and plastic furnace squirrel cage blew up. They were too lazy to sweep the roof for debris and particles so a granular pebble poked a hole in the TSP membrane causing water to penetrate the roof board. Random screws were coming loose and disappearing form the bottom skirts. Customer support for non You Tubers was scant. Honestly it was a miserable experience that I will never forget. I have since ordered and taken delivery of a 2022 Newmar, London Aire. The difference in customer service support, quality engineering and design between Grand Design an Newmar is like pee wee T ball and Major League Baseball. What’s my point? 1. I took exception to piss poor customer support and amateur engineering from Grand Design. 2. Given the opportunity, you might give Newmar a try. They will impress.
I have been following your videos for about a year now. Thank you for all the great content.
we stayed there 2 years ago ... nice place and loved the sound of the surf, nice sleeping weather
My wife and I work camped at Camp Hatteras for 4 months last year. Nice place.
That is a great campground, I've stayed there a few times. REALLY great staff
An efficient and quality way to do your "light check" Have your truck running (idling). Then on your headlights with high beams on. While those are on also turn on your emergency flashes. Do a walk around your entire rig. All necessary lights are on and should be functioning. Easy!
Back up lights are the only extra step.
We loved our stay at Camp Hatteras. We visited between Christmas and New Year’s and had the place to ourselves!
We loved the sound side waterfront sites at Camp Hattaras Excellent sunsets from the rear deck with kite surfers most days.
Always good to see a new video from you two!
Thanks again for the invite, I enjoy seeing the country through the eye of your camera's. Hope you get a chance to take a dip before you leave there. Don't play with the sharks, they don't play well with others...lol.
Daisy is so cute! New subscriber here. How in the world do you park that RV so easily? Beautiful RV & very cool Motorcycle!😊
Sweet...one of my favorite campgrounds. We'll be there next week. We prefer the sound side...less crowded and quieter. Fabulous sunsets.
We enjoyed camping in the Oregon Inlet Campground in March but it was way cold and windy. Hopefully it was a little warmer for you.
Are you sure you’re not an engineer. That is amazing. Can’t wait to see it finished.
I couldn't help but notice the little cup for water for the fur baby, have you thought about the bottle with a rubber bowl on top of it that you squeeze to get water we got two for our babies and they work great when we are traveling
Hey Chad/Tara, how in the world did you run all 3 AC's while traveling? Great video as always!
Just a thought , when I do that check I uses the head lights and 4 way flasher at the same time. That way all the the bulbs are working except BU lights. As a single guy it is one step. I love the videos and personalities you both have❤❤❤
We were in Camp Hatteras back in April. Very nice sites and access to beautiful beach.
At 17:55, when you're hooking up sewer and then water it looks like the bottom left of your slide out by the screws is not flat. Looks like some waveyness.
Or maybe it's just the way the camera is recording.
Like the location notification on this video from Wilmington, NC KOA. Thanks!
Like the music. This Camp Hatteras Campground video is where my wife and I met you and Daisy while Tara wasn't feeling well. I also believe that we had our Boykin Spaniel with us. Wish I had taken a 🤳. It sure was windy and cold when we arrived and left. We camp with a group March through October for a long weekend. We are scheduled to be at Camp Hatteras Campground in MA 2024.
We’ll be visiting Hatteras in September, but we’ll be camping in the Oregon Inlet State Campground. I’m an NC native and it’s been years since I’ve visited the Hatteras area. My whole family will be camping together, so I’m so excited!!
Good video. I love OBX my tag on my truck is RUN2OBX. Yes they do have to plow the sand off Hwy 12 when storms come through and in Rodanthe I am sure you saw where some houses have washed away.
I enjoyed the ride. What a beautiful spot to land for a couple weeks or however long you stay. I think I would not want to ever leave. Safe travels.
Love from Thailand, you guys are AWESOME.
Love OBX! Camp Hatteras is amazing! Leaving from Maine on Friday with my family and Grand Design Imagine XLS. Oceanside is the way to go and so convenient. Happy travels!
We have been to Ocracoke Island just south of where you stayed. It was a fun stop along the Outer Banks. Especially enjoyed the fresh fish co-op and the theater.
I’m gonna need a video on what those big cables you hooked from the camper to the truck are it’s killing me!
Hey Chad!!! It really looks cold on the beach! Plus ya'll put jackets on. How long ago did ya'll film this? It's been hitting over 100 degrees here in the DFW area the past week. I'd love to trade this for some east coast cool beach!! Y'all continue to be safe and keep the great video's coming!!! HHOOORRAAA SEABEES!!!
Thanks for the Daisy fix!❤
Great video, again.
A few people have chastised Chad for connecting the breakaway cable to the hitch instead of the truck itself. I have always attached to the hitch, and never felt unsafe. So, let's think about this.
1. If you look at trailer attachment failures, they are almost always due to human error. The ONE TIME you forget to check that safety pin that makes you make sure your hitch is fully engaged and latched, is the time it will fail, and you'll drop your trailer onto the bed rails.
2. Other failures, such as an actual weld or material failure are extremely rare. The failure of the pucks or pins or rails or bolts are just not things that seems to be a popular point of failure.
Ignoring all of that, let's look at when the worst happens and your 5er separates from your tow vehicle. Let's say that someone has tampered with the pins or puck locks that hold your hitch into the bed of your truck, you hit a large bump, and everything slides out the back of your bed because you don't have a tailgate. Worst possible scenario. A fifth wheel will immediately drop it's nose to the ground. Most likely your fancy SnapPads(TM) will provide very little cushioning of the blow, and immediately be ripped from the landing gear. If the angle is severe enough, the hitch could land next, but likely the front edge of the RV at the landing gear will be next. Either will have anywhere from 1500 to 4000 pounds of pin weight forcing it to the pavement, providing lots of friction to "slow" the RV. I'm not saying that it's impossible, but highly unlikely, for the breakaway braking to really make a difference at this point.
This is very different from a travel trailer, or other bumper pull trailer, in that the angle is not nearly as severe as a fifth wheel, and could continue sliding for hundreds of feet if hitch failure happens at highway speed.
I guess I'm saying that where you connect your breakaway cable for a 5th wheel to avoid a very rare condition may not be that big of a deal when considering the rarity of such a failure and the consequences.
Of course all of you pulling 5ers carry a torque wrench and check all of the mounting and pivot bolts on your hitch. Right? RIGHT??
How cool. We will be there July 18th. Hope to see you there.
We go camping at Camp Hatteras every year in the fall. Great camp ground!
Hi From Malaysia…i like this type of Video..👍🏻👍🏻
Another great video! Thanks Chad and Tara!
You might consider attaching the breakaway cable to something other than the hitch assembly. If the hitch itself or connection to the truck were to fail, the brakes might not apply in an emergency. It’s pretty unlikely, but can happen.
Loved the video!Beautiful 5th.Wheel. Hope you don’t mind if we travel along and enjoy the views.
Better keep that site nice! We will be there beginning of August!
We love Outer Banks! We got married on the beach in Corolla, NC and stayed on Cape Hatteras National Seashore.
Hey there you all...I tried winter (December) tent camping at the Camp Hatteras RV Resort & Campground …. the weather didn't cooperate for me ... too cold for a tent. The Campground was great and having the beach right there is awesome. So looking forward to trying again maybe at the same time of year as you all. Safe travels.
Love it there. We always go to the KOA.
What time of the year was this video filmed ? Just curious it’s end June and we are here at this campground now we always come here it’s our 6th year coming here just so awesome to see a campground that you guys are going to that we have made a yearly trip for our wedding anniversary 27 years and counting stay safe guys
Down in my neck of the woods. Hope yall enjoyed y'alls stay!
thanks guys for the vid, LUV OBX, been going to kitesurf for 16years with out the RV. Always rented a house sound side.
We enjoyed Camp Hatteras, to see it that empty, must have been mid week arrival!. We got there close to the weekend and it was close to full and thats when you learn how tight it can get with a big rig.
Our vet told us to be careful cutting doses in half because there is no guarantee that the medication is evenly distributed in the pill or chewy. One half can be all medication and the other half all filler.
Love it! Staying there next 4th of July, making the 10hr 49minute drive lol
We have toys!!! Harley Road King (no fairings) and Yamaha Vstar 950 (again no fairings). Trying to get a feel for whether or not we could squeeze them into the toy hauler section if we staggered the handlebars. What do you guys think? P.S. we are absolutely amazed by the office conversion you did in the toy hauler section and plan to do something along those lines with ours.
Looks nice and cool there.
Love it! Hope you'll make your way back to San Diego soon. Happy travels!
Hi Guys love your vids. I have a malshi that come travel day she is a nervous wreck. I have been giving her calming bliss from Walmart and it seems it just does not help at all. If you don't mind sharing with another RV lifer I would appreciate it. She is my fur baby and after travel day it is a week of boiled chicken to calm her little tummy down. Willing to try anything at this point. TIA. Hugs to Daisy for being such a champ. Stay safe!
The check list is great to watch Chad and Tara! Only Daisy is hidden in the (bun) I call it between you two as she has anxiety issues when you two are out of the home!
Your fire extinguisher!!!
cant wait for the volta video
Chad, have you changed your mind on the breakaway cable. You switched to the truck body in case the whole 5th wheel came off, but I see you're back to the 5th wheel.
I live in NC. I hope you enjoyed 😊 Cape Hatteras has been my fav campsite so far. I’m actually wearing the shirt I got from there as I type 😂
Our trucks (we have same truck) have a built in trailer light test function. Give that a try someday....pretty neat.
I may have missed the vidoe about hitching .Whats cord you use for electrical for trailer looks different Thanks so much if could list the video Keep up the content
Pull test is good but visual inspection of the jaws is most important
Loved this video!
Air Horns would be AWESOME!
A question of you Chad & Tara.Chad added an external valterra dump valve did you have to re glue it 🇳🇿👏👏
Just a thought.. brake away connected to truck and not hitch. I just saw an Anderson crushed and if the hitch isn’t installed correctly or fails and comes out of the truck, at least the brake away is connected to the truck to engage the trailer brakes. I realize you have been doing this forever but I changed this for me when I saw that hitch fail.
Just seeing ya hook up the "life support" cable....I feel the sudden urge to laugh like Tim Allen.
Hey guys. Been following you since I got into 5th wheels. My wife and I (Tim and Heather) live here in the outer banks down in Avon. We own a tackle shop, Frank and Frans. I would have loved to hang with you guys while you were here. If you ever come back stop in and I will make time to show you all the great sites. We could drive out on beach hit the best restaurants and I could show you the sound on the boat 10:03 and do some fishing.
Do you have the video already about what you plugged in in the back of your truck to your trailer? Also where did you get those chalks it looks nice?
I'm also curious about what you plugged into the back of your truck.
We stayed 7 spots to your left. Had a great time,,just the sand lasted longer then the vacation 😂
Where do you get those calming chews from? Hugo our Springer gets very noxious of late. Thanks
Great taste in music!
Being RV superstars, everyone knows you. Do you every want to travel incognito in an ‘08 Cougar with peeling decals? Thanks for the great video!
Hey Chad. I was once told not to hook my brake release cable to the 5th wheel hitch. In case it came out of the back of the truck. I hook it on a loop in the bed of the truck.
Chad, my wife and I enjoy your videos. I like the techie ones, we both enjoy the travel vids. I am assuming that the large 2 conductor cable you connected from the front of the RV to the truck (@1:26) are to enable charging the batteries from the truck while driving. I have implemented truck charging with 1/0 cable and Anderson connectors. Currently my trailer-to-truck connection is a ~ 10 foot cable attached to the 5th wheel with an Anderson connector that connects into the truck bed near the 7-way connector. Assuming you added the trailer connector yourself, how did you get a cable from inside the storage bay to the outside connector and attach the connector itself? What type of connectors did you use? I like the idea of having a totally removable cable between the truck and trailer to avoid the potential of having someone steal $100 of 1/0 tinned OFC cable when the trailer is in storage.
For anyone interested, I sent my question to Chad via email and this was his (super quick) response:
Hi, Rusty!
That’s the interface between the Volta alternator in the truck (proprietary 60V alternator) and the Volta Power System in the RV. It provides about 6KW of power while driving - enough to power all of our AC units and still charge the Volta battery bank. It was installed by Volta, so I’m not sure how they routed the cables. The cable I hook up fro travel comes completely off and is stored when camped.
Right now, we are still testing a prototype of this system and are expecting final updates to it next week. Shortly after that, we’ll have a video about it.. 😊
Hope that helps!
Thanks for sharing. I love the dog's place on the arm rest! Where'd you get it?
Did you take the ferry to Ocracoke? Very cool place. Pirate esq.
Loved it. Thanks guys
Awesome video.
What type calming chews did you give your puppy? I don’t want to give mine too much but we do need something for travel days.
Me too!
