- Hello all, today I finally have a long haul flight review to share with you! I flew onboard Lufthansa's Airbus A340-300 from Frankfurt, Germany to Washington D.C. in the USA. This was my first time travelling with Lufthansa in long-haul economy, and it was an interesting experience! This video will show exactly what is is like to fly on Lufthansa's transatlantic economy class in 2021. I was especially glad to get to fly an A340 before they are retired. Enjoy the review!

So awesome!! The A340 is amazing. There's just something about having four engines on a plane that makes it really special :)
Next year my wife and I are going on our year-delayed honeymoon to Greece. We’re flying from Seattle all the way to Frankfurt in three a340 (at least that’s the plane currently flying the route). Good to know that it should at least be a decent flight experience!

I've only seen the Lufthansa A330-300 and their A350-900 arrive to IAD, but sadly never the A340. I'll try and see if they resume service to any of their 747s on the Frankfurt-D.C. route anytime soon though.
Interesting. In the summer of 2021 (when I took this flight) they were alternating between the 330 and 340... a 747 would be awesome, though!

So glad to hear that! Yes, sadly no bluetooth at this point. That should work, as long as they have the standard audio jack that most wired headphones/earbuds have.
Outstanding trip report. The cup holder is very useful in my opinion, it's a shame that many airlines have decided not to install it on their new planes. I think the service was very good on this flight despite some cost cuttings

Nice video, can you share information on the arrival in DC? Where to go for immigration control (American) and to the baggage claim from the arrival door? First time going there from Frankfurt.
Thanks for asking! Once arriving into Washington you walk following the signs that say “Arrivals” or “Baggage claim”. You will end up getting on a bus that takes you to another terminal building. Once there follow the same signs and you will come across passport control. You enter different lines depending on who you are: foreigners, standard US citizens, global entry (for some US citizens and residents) and Mobile Pass (for some US and Canadian citizens). I used Mobile Pass and it was really fast. Baggage claim is right behind that, then follow the signs that say “exit” and you are done! Let me know if you have other questions.

Question about middle armrest. You said its movable but only saw it go half way up. Can you tell me if the armrest goes all the way up for someone getting 2 seats?
Thanks for the question. Yes- the armrest between the two seats goes up the whole way. The ones by the wall/window and by the aisle do not.
This is probably a stupid question, but was the alcohol with your meal an extra charge? Great video!
No worries, I'm happy to answer! Beer and wine are free in economy on long flights like this one.

Hope my reply isn't too late- at the time of filming I was 5'11''- I think you could still manage at your height, but you could get more legroom if you're willing to pay for an exit row.

Thank you! Lufthansa's A330 and A340 are pretty much the exact same in experience, 340 just has an extra 2 engines. I wonder if they will change the Washington flight back to a 340 this summer? Glad you enjoyed the video!
@@JourneyingwithJosiah Actually the Lufthansa A330's economy seats are a bit different from the ones on the A340. I flew on both aircraft and can confirm, and there are also pictures.

It was completely fine! I've never been on a Lufthansa flight that I felt like something was off in that regard.
Going to Venice next year for my honeymoon and it looks like we will fly lufthansa

Do you think row 16 (economy but with more leg space) is worth its money ?
Good question. Pros: There is extra leg space, you are the first off the plane, and you get food first. Cons: Seats are a little more narrow (so if you're a wide person I wouldn't recommend). I'd say if its no more than $60 more it's worth it.

I would say it’s probably a little louder there than the rest of the plane, but nothing too extreme. It was not a problem for me at all.
What were the alcoholic options?
Thanks for asking! Beer and wine are free in economy. Liquor is for purchase starting in December.
Did you have any problem while you were recording that? or did you used a hiden camera?. I thought Lufthansa is very restricted with cameras on board.

I didn’t have any problems. I wouldn’t say I hid the camera but I definitely didn’t purposely let the flight attendants see it. What I’ve found is that the majority of them don’t care unless you’re stuffing it in the face of them or other passengers.
the leg room on lufthansa is actually below average! most international airlines on laonghaul flights offer 33 in and lufthansa is 31-32
Did you have to wear a mask on the plane? Are they still required?
Not anymore, Lufthansa made them optional in October 2022.

The Oldest A340-300s still in Service Today
The oldest were delivered in 1996
They do a way better job upkeeping the A340-300 than Air France did
