The fact that this single deck aircraft is so long it has a 4 class configuration is mind blowing
This model aircraft is the best I’ve ever flown in aside from the A380. Simply superb in every way. Sad to see economics get in the way of security & class
I mean, security wise, we're getting into a really good path
An Airbus A350 or a Boeing 777 is as safe as an A340.
@@JR-ut2ne the engines are just as safe but there is no denying that physically having 4 engines just makes more safe same reason why air force one is using a very old 747 and just keeping it regularly maintained and refurbished

Lufthansa had grounded all their A340 - they brought them back to fly! Crazy in terms of economy, but great for us that love the plane. Thanks for sharing.
Absolutely correct, but I wish they hadn’t, lol. When I booked for an upcoming trip, the LH website itself was showing my flight to be a 744. Days after I bought the ticket, I got an email from LH about an equipment change. Now the flights on an A340-300. Fluck that I said, and chose an alternate routing to the same destination but on a 748.

@@neunundfuenfzigposition Most airlines grounded the A340s, not because of Covid. Lufthansa started using the ones they have - 6 if I'm not mistaken along 2020…

Love the downstairs lavatories. Firstly, less noise/smell for the passengers nearby and secondly you don't have to pick whether to try the front economy one or the rear one depending on which is occupied. Here you will almost always get at least one empty. Flew this many years ago FRA-YVR and back and enjoyed the experience.

A few things...
1. Wow a great report. Thank you.
2. I love the A340-600, I was able to fly on it once MUC-EWR on LH it was super great!
Sadly, the LH long-haul economy class experience and service (seen here) has deteriorated SIGNIFICANTLY since the pandemic hit. I flew them in November 2021 and it was a shockingly POOR experience.
3. Watching this made me miss the days when it was preferable. *sigh*
4. Also LOVE the rare LAX reverse ops departure! I've experienced it only once and I've flown through LAX for years.
5. I don't know why but the downstairs bathrooms are truly the BEST thing ever.
6. I REALLY hope I get the chance to fly on the A340-600 again before they're gone! ;(
It's slowly starting to get back to normal. They reintroduced hot meals not too long ago.
The weather is so bad that they closed the airport, but we're landing anyhow. That would make me a tad nervous, but I have faith in German pilots. ;-).
It looks like you had a decent Economy flight. The dinner didn't impress me but the metal cutlery did!
Well 5* airline without metal cutlery would be really bad…
@@Grasser6 Those of us who traditionally travel in steerage (Economy) expect plastic - sometimes including the food.
Well, I'm gonna assume they landed the 10th of February 2020. The forecast showed surface winds up to 40 knots, gusts up to 60 knots, moderate hail and thunderstorms. I'm sure the airport was closed for a while. Luckily the weather quickly improved to clear skies with just a 25 knots headwind shortly after.

I'd have to say this is the most comfortable plane I got to fly in to date. Love the 2-4-2 economy setup.

I'm an MD 11 pilot and would see the A346s often in FRA & MAD, I haven't flown to MUC since 1999 according to my flight log! Sadly these birds are leaving the skies faster than a brief rainstorm. I thought for sure DLH would be a long lasting holdout but their days are numbered there as well. I enjoyed the video!

Flew this exact model on Lufthansa back in 2010 it was such a new and different experience back then, loved it
My favorite plane of all I’ve experienced. All 3 trips (ORD-MUC, LH435) were fantastic. The restroom setup is what makes it my favorite, I think.

In my opinion A340-600 along with MD11 are the most bueatiful passenger aircrafts ever created. While it's no longer possible to fly on MD-11 (unless you are a cargo freight ;)) I hope I can get a chance to fly with A346. It's like magnificent swan... EDIT: I'm going to fly this bird to Hong Kong October 2023!

@@G2000TEK Aircraft looks less impressive from that close perspective but still it's beautiful. Even tough it was all creaky during landing and interior was quite "lufthansa raw" flight was enjoyable. I'm happy to finally flew A346. Moreover I was lucky to fly back to Europe with B744, another great bird for the first time!
Man, your pilots were pros! That was a very smooth landing...or else the winds weren't as bad. And that flight looked like loess than 50% capacity
I flew aboard a A346 once, on South African from CPT to LHR back in 07. It was an amazing aircraft.
For an A340 economy seat, you got an amazing wing view!! I remember being on a 777 and having a worse economy view than that.
Was your flight at a 777 as occupied as this flight? Estimated less than 30% on this flight
Since the moyority have it in a 3-4-3( airlines!) , but if you fly Singapore airlines 3-3-3 777, you would know what the 777 feels like when is used right!

I'm sorry here, but is not a single person going to comment on how smooth of a landing this was in insanely windy conditions?! That pilot needs a raise for sure.

My suggestion would be to add a timer on the screen on how much time has passed into the flight. Otherwise your vids are most good on YT, I REALLY LOVE THEM.

2:33, the whole reason why this aircraft is flying now. Better get on these while you can, cause once A350s and 777Xs start getting delivered with First Class, it’s auf wiedersehen to the A346. You’d have to travel to Nigeria or Iran at that point if you want to fly on this f***ing long bird. You transatlantic flyers are so lucky to have this rare bird available for crossing the pond. I have to travel halfway round the world to get that chance…..
At the moment Mahan Air is the only airline that frequently flies this bird as far as I know
Lufthansa planned to bring it back this year but it will probably get delayed because of omicron

PAL has been serving in LA forever. Before the 777, they would utilize the 747 and A340-300 there
Believe Lufthansa are reintroducing the type short term will be good to see them in service again even if only for a couple more years, surely one of the most stunning looking aircraft of all time.
The A340-600 is on my bucket-list... I hope I get to fly this beauty while it is still being operated by Airlines... I love it!

Good video, man, and it`s suprising to see the A 340-600 again in the skies, when the trend goes toward a Twin engine equipment. This plane is gorgeous, up to a long distance trip like this one as well. Nice meal, seats, lavatory and the overall enviroment featured here. Thanks for share.

I fly long haul regularly , and I pick the A330/340 series every time over the rivals which offer 3-3-3 or 3-4-3 configurations . For the travelling couple there is no better option .

Great report as usual. However, although safety videos may seem redundant to you since you fly alot , if you've never flown, the videos are helpful.
Yeah you get numb to those safety videos after a few of them. I honestly get annoyed like, "I get it, I get it....enough with the chit-chat."

I wouldn't have said "who cares about safety vdeos". There are information that may save lives.
I'd also watch safety demonstraions by th air hostesses. They deserve some attention from the passengers whom they are there to protect.

By the way, I like the LH's A340-600 toilet design which they put near cargo compartment at the aircraft belly...
It's a deal breaker though, for any passenger with mobility problems, and can't handle steps...
I wonder what accommodation Lufthansa is willing to make in that situation..??
You were very fortunate the flight was only a third full (from what I could tell from the footage), that always makes a flight far more enjoyable. As far as the ‘windy’ landing at Munich, one of the smoothest I’ve seen - ha ha.

I really liked my flights on the A340-600 (with Lufthansa and Iberia). Sorry to see them gone now. But it's nice to see a video of a flight from just one month before the world changed.
They are not gone yet, 19 of Lufthansa A340-s are active now, operate from FRA (A340-300) and MUC (A340-600) to US airports.
Reverse ops out of LAX! Very common during the winter months. Wish it was a daytime flight to see that view.
About to get into a premium economy seat 💺 to Munich in that aircraft. Looking forward to summer vacation! ☀️

Luckily these beasts will still be flying for a while, I believe Lufthansa is going to retire the last ones in 2023.

Last travelled in an A340 (forgot which variant) in 2006, Singaport to Hong Kong. Very comfortable and magnificient experience.

Im still blown away at how these things stay in the air
For decades LH has served a hot towel and little pretzels as compliments. The pasta used to be topped with meatballs and breakfast used to have cheese and ham etc.
Well, economy class is meant to discourage passengers to fly economy, after all!
Nice A340-600 flight. That breakfast sandwich was LARGE. Lower level bathrooms isolate all that noise from passengers. Nice touch

Most airlines are phasing them out...they use a lot more fuel and just cost more to run having four engines..
That's how the 777 sold more than the A340

Best planes, I agree, just bc of the A380, but best pilots? If you want the best pilots I recommend you get a ride on turkish airlines.
LA is so bright its actually crazy how much LEDs are easy to spot. i dont think Miami was this bright when i took off
