- Twenty-eight years later, Twister is finally getting a quasi-sequel, Twisters, which, to its credit, has some terrific talent involved. That includes two of the most promising rising stars of the moment, Glen Powell and Daisy Edgar-Jones, and a unique choice for a director in Minari’s Lee Isaac Chung. But can it live up to the original?

I saw the original Twister when I was 6. After the movie was over, we walk out into one hell of a thunderstorm. On our way home, we ended up hydroplaning and nearly crashed into a semi. I would like to thank that experience for a fear of tornadoes that enraptured me through my entire childhood.
I drove home from the screening last night in the middle of a lightning storm. Lol
the original was just so much fun. I would hope this too be a good send up, i didn't expect it too surpass it, honestly, the OG was lightning in a bottle.
it was pretty amazing you'll see alot of easter egg from the original aswell (like alot)
The original was fun but this one is as good if you ditch the "classic is better" mentality. The original has too many movie continuity error and I don't think I caught too many from this one.
The OST of the original is unbeatable though.
Twister was one of the movies the hubby and I watched in a theater while we were dating, along with Independence Day. Good times!
Summer of 96😊
I thought it was fun. Not better than the original, and not worse. Just different. And that's ok.
I would normally agree about the lack of romance in movies today, but the final scene made up for it. I don’t remember the last mainstream that ended on a “cute” romantic moment like that
The original Twister was my very first DVD! I remember watching it so much not only because I loved the movie, but I was in awe with the power of DVD, LOL.
Matrix here.
Twister was also the very first Feature Film EVER released on DVD Format.
@@ReadySetDisaster Thats amazing. I was a late adopter. I would not have known that. The Patriot was another OG release that I really loved.
Main character was making a lot of stupid decisions, but the script kept telling the audience she was so smart. Movie was ok. Better if you saw it for free
I was so disappointed. I looked up on Wikipedia and saw Kathleen Kennedy was attached to this. It wasn't a movie, it was content.
@captmaverickable she was attached to the original, but she didn't have the power she has now. The original was so good, and this one didn't do it.
Is there a reason why every big budget action movie has the cast looking utterly bored in the poster? Piss yellow colour grading and bored actors, really gets you pumped to see it
This movie was so weird. The original with Jan de Bont was so riveting. It had the romance between Bill Paxton and Helen Hunt but it wasn't forced. And it was not the focus of the movie. This movie was all about the relationship between Anthony Ramos, Glen Powell and Daisy Edgar-Jones. And the sound and lighting on this movie was terrible. I almost wanted to ask the movie theater to turn the sound up because it was waaayyy too quiet during the action scenes. But when the credits started rolling with the outro music it was louder than the rest of the film!!
They are saving the relationship for the next one watch, like you said you wanted it (begging) it's what will draw back the "some" of the audience
The problem is the lack of creative originality, and thus writers and producers are constantly "saving" stuff for future movies (hoping there'll be one) rather than making a fully fledged first entry and then coming up with new ideas for a sequel.
A lack of a romantic subplot seems like a really stupid complaint tbh
In the end, it seems that most of the complaints about this film in particular, and films in general, are that the film they watched doesn’t meet their preconceived expectations-which is kind of unfair because should just judge the film for what it actually is, not what it lacked in their mind.
A lack of romantic subplot is why I love this one. 😂😂 I don't need every main characters to kiss all the time.
It very clearly has a romantic subplot. Even a hint of a love triangle. They just don't kiss
@@MassJass which is more than enough. I don't need to see people kiss just because they want to kiss every time.
@@AidanChinSungLing would the movie have been better with a kiss? Maybe. Did it need it? Nah
I was 14 as well when Twister came out. I saw it in the theater twice, once with my parents and another time with my friends. I swear that movie made Dodge trucks the IT thing to drive for a few years. My parents even ended up buying a Quad Cab Dodge Dakota a couple of years later. lol.
Really had fun with this one ..better than I expected .....dialogue abit corny sometimes lead did a great job but overall good 7/10
Only complaint was actress who played the mother had so much lip filler in her top lip it was ridiculious my partner joked "her lip should have been in the credits ."..😅
My mum made me watch this in 4k instead of watching Inside Out 2. At first i thought it would be horrible, but it was amazing and it deserves more than 7/10.But i got angry when Kate and Tyler never got together
I'd seen the first in a great theater, massive screen, great projectors and sound, and it was a kick in the pants. That option is now gone sadly, so many miles away now...
This movie blew my expectations outta the water! So much fun and heart! Also the soundtrack is excellent! 🌪️
There is romance and it was quite refreshing to not see the two leads making out in the middle of a natural disaster. I don’t need to see the physical aspect of every relationship on screen, the emotional one was fully out there and it served its purpose of making us care about the characters. If I got into a fistfight with a tornado, my first thought after it wouldn’t be: well let’s get to fucking.
3:47 I agree about movies these days shying away from anything romantic in them. My problem is that when they do have romance, it's almost always instant hookups and raging sex drives instead of earned friendship and growing attraction. Considering that the entire relationship between Kate and Tyler ( which starting with them as rivals) only occurred over the course of a WEEK, I really like that they didn't go right to swapping spit and taking their clothes off. It was a form of storytelling that focused on two people going from rivals, to friends, to romantic interests, without feeling rushed.
Yes, I absolutely wanted to see them kiss. But the fact that the movie left me wanting more, was rather delicious.
TWISTERS was so UN-realistic. 😢 The lead male is supposedly a rising RUclips star ... but hardly any cell phones are to be seen in the hands of the townspeople or other cast members. The citizens of Oklahoma are shown watching or participating in outdoor entertainments (rodeo, baseball and street festivals) blissfully UNAWARE that major storms are brewing. BELIEVE me when I say that in Oklahoma, the tornado sirens in the cities would be going off. People would not be caught off guard. The people in the age of RUclips would have cell phones out and they'd be tracking the storms. Also, cell phones would be going off with thunderstorm warnings. ⚠️ The small teams of tornado chasers would not need to warn citizens. Not impressed with the script writing.
spot on, sweet. the script was a pile.
Pass on Hollywood still living off more creative decades.
From the trailer it looks like they just re-shot the original. With the boxy looking tech being sucked into the twister.
I remember going to see twister at the empire leicester square in London we were in outer London we only had a short time to get there it was a rush we made it
I was dissappointed
just saw this, and you can see the charm and feel they weree trying to emulate from the original
I don't go to movie theaters but I made an exception for this one. If I'm gonna do this I'm gonna do it right in IMAX!
@EinhanderPilotSantos save you money. They don't give you enough tornado action for max.
As far as special effects are concerned, the small details of Twiters are much better than Twister in 1996! When the tornado in the movie Twisters occurred, the surrounding large trees and grasslands in the distance were shaking, which truly showed how strong winds swept the earth. When the tornado in the 1996 movie occurred, the nearby trees and grass were not shaken. Yes, for me, who often watches real tornado documentaries, this is really unreal. As far as the plot is concerned, there are some flips in the middle of Twisters. The characters in the play go from misunderstanding to understanding each other, from opposing positions to working together. In addition, there are also touching plots. In the first scene, the heroine lost her classmates and friends in the storm and came out sad. I almost cried...😢 Finally, evacuation knowledge was introduced into the film Twisters. How to protect oneself on the spot when there is no underground shelter room was also shown in detail in the film, which served as a demonstration and education.
Glen Powell still at it...bravely going into "Danger Zones"
I grew up where if we did not have 12 tornados every spring and fall, the weather was screwy. I HATED the first one. I WON'T waste my time with this one.
You sound like a sour puss, you must not enjoy anything PATHETIC!
Yeah I grew up same way. Loved the first movie don’t care to see this one.
I'm not necessarily looking for romance in a movie about storm chasing 😂
How did you see it already? It comes out in 3 days.
Depends on where you live some theaters also screen it early like my local one. I am going to see it tomorrow night before when it releases on the 19th
I wouldn’t watch this movie for romance so it’s fine if there’s no romance. Maybe narrator can start JoBlo romance channel.
From childhood’s hour I have not been
As others were-I have not seen
As others saw-I could not bring
My passions from a common spring-
From the same source I have not taken
My sorrow-I could not awaken
My heart to joy at the same tone-
And all I lov’d-I lov’d alone-
Then-in my childhood-in the dawn
Of a most stormy life-was drawn
From ev’ry depth of good and ill
The mystery which binds me still-
From the torrent, or the fountain-
From the red cliff of the mountain-
From the sun that ’round me roll’d
In its autumn tint of gold-
From the lightning in the sky
As it pass’d me flying by-
From the thunder, and the storm-
And the cloud that took the form
(When the rest of Heaven was blue)
Of a demon in my view-
I loved Twister and I think this one was fun too. Twister had VFx we had not experienced before, which to me makes it so unique. Twisters looks nice and the "Twisters" do have some gravity to them, but I believe we have just become accustomed to that level of CGI these days, which makes some of the magic dissapear.
I enjoyed the movie very much, personally.
I feel like you spoiled a few plot points haha but it's okay reviewers tend to do that nowadays
Not bad. But it doesn't include Van Halen's "Humans Being" track which makes it lack the strong heart of the original (which plays in the background during some scenes of the movies though)
Yaay another sequel
Went to IMAX yesterday. Agree to 7/10 Cast is really nice. Watched the original at the age of twelve.
Dude, 1 question for you, did you watch this movie in 4DX?, if you did not, you're missing out big time. I watched the 1st Twister and loved that movie. This past Friday I watch this new Twisters for the 1st time in 4DX, I'll be 100% honest, I liked this twister better than the 1st. 1st off, Daisy Edgard-Jones is outstanding. The special effects are better than the original and in 4DX, when the wind starts to pick up, you feel that wind in the theater as well. When you combine the movement of the 4DX chairs with the blasts of wind on each side of your head, at your feet and coming right at you along with some mist in the air WOW, awesome!!!! I give the movie a 10 out of 10 in 4DX. Don't waste your money on IMAX, go see it in 4DX
I saw it at the drive in when I was 10,I fell asleep but woke up when Human Beings by Van Halen came on.
An 80 pound girl boss beats mother nature,it was mediocre, oh my our standards have slipped
Honestly, it’s a 9/10 for me. I honestly felt the writing was smart, each character was developed and portrayed well (I felt for _all_ of them), casting choices were solid, the CGI/VFX were top-notch and intense-looking on screen, and _excellent_ music (👍👍).
None of this is true. Daisy Edgar Jones was clearly acting at times. The trope of the person who quits their passion due to death in the family is ran to the ground so that was cliche and boring. The main character was more depressing and boring than empowering. And every time they made an attempt to “help” anyone they didn’t do anything. Oh and that song, “All men are easy…” whatever that was that felt completely out of context. People say movies are subjective but I just don’t believe anything you said 😂
@@Pupeyes You _could’ve_ just said that you *_respectfully disagree_* with me, but no; from reading your comment here, it looks to me like you’re _intentionally_ choosing to be a *dick.*
And film _is_ subjective. I *don’t* believe in viewing film objectively at all. Film is *art,* and *art* is _subjective._ Not literally every single human being on the whole entire planet is going to view something exactly the same way you do.

Are tornado's gender neutral or woke?
maga
It wasn’t woke, thankfully. It’s excellent.
This is news to me but when did the original Twister was consider a classic? I saw it in theater and enjoyed it but I do remember most critics trashed it back in the summer of 1996. 🤣
classic among fans. critics usually trash summer blockbusters, ppl love them and nostalgia remains strong, and in 2024 who tf remembers those critics, maybe besides siskel&ebert...?
@@Warszawski_Modernizm I do remember the critics who trashed this film, I'm aging myself here but I was 18 when the film came out and I remember vividly seeing it on opening weekend at local movie theater that just installed the brand new Dolby Digital Surround Sound.
A stuck up female scientist, and no romance between the male and female leads…did Disney make this movie?
LOL sure sounds like it.
@alexprinsrealestateagent1263 one Lucas film president is a part of it. She was a part of the original but did have the power she has now. Did you find the stuck-up female choices actually smart, outside of the script telling you. The pool decision was stupid.
First was way better but the second is a fun time
TWISTY TURLINGTON The first one was a joke..but fun...... SPINSTERS !!
I actual saw the original movie in a drive in when it came out.
3:55 The guy went to the movie ready to crank one out to the kissing scenes but left the theater with blue balls.
Awesomeness Continues!! 👊😎✊🍁
RIP Bill Paxton
I give it a 6.5 out of ten
Javis in it for the money not the science😂 I'll try it out but it has a lot to live up to.
Looking forward to seeing this one
Will you twist or turn?
Nice pronunciation of Javi 😂
I'm out.
I'll keep the OG.
I thought it was good, but not great.. worth watching in a theater.. slightly overhyped
Tired of seeing the trailer. Meh. I can wait for it on one of the platforms.
We got twins.....twiiins😊
3:59 it’s ok, to everyone hooks up.
I didn't want to see this 🍿🎥 but my friend wants to. Twisters seem 😑😑😑😒😒
Meh. I'll wait for it to stream.
Don’t give a fig to even finish this review.
this looks like a complete remake...wtf
Dont u ever take a picture of Glen Powell from that angle. How dare u 🤣
Looks more like a sequel to Into The Storm then Twister, Pass
You spoiled the 1st 10 minutes lol
The late 90’s the dark age of summer blockbusters
Twisters isnt good at all mannn
why bother with this crap?
Feels weird to call Glen Powell a rising star. Hes almost 40.

Twister was an overrated movie. I found more compelling drama watching storm chasers on the Weather Channel.
My mom hated the movie too. I just didn’t care for it
Some people have poor taste. It's okay. I forgive you.
I bet Americans love yet another recycled B-movie... ~sigh~
This movie is so derivative and boring at times. Daisy Edgar Jones was a totally bore of a character.
Lol twist
👍👍👍🎥
The lack of physical affection between the two leads had affected black leading men like Denzel Washington for decades.
There is no romance in this movie because the leads aren't two women. That's where we are in Hollywood, now.
Name one mainstream blockbuster that had two female leads with romance between them?
Nice username
@@charleslebi7297 No.
@@pesky716 Thanks. Someone once called me a "Fat Northern Bigot" in the comments section for expressing a trivial opinion on an old, 80's microcomputer. It was so ridiculous I made it my username, just for fun. Some people don't get the joke and take the username at face value, which means they think someone with bigoted opinions recognises themselves as such, advertising it to the world via their username. I thought people were more intelligent than that. I was wrong.
@@charleslebi7297 that movie would be called "Bound" released in 1996
No romantic sparks fly between character? The intimacy coordinator put the kibosh on that idea.
Looks like a cheap remake.
Considering on the set of the original, the director punched a crew member, causing a mutiny, the cast had to get Hepatitis B shots after an infection scare, and their star, Helen Hunt was raced to a hospital after she got a concussion - mostly from the practical effects...
No romance?!!!? I'm so sick of that
To be honest, a lot of romance in action movies felt tacked on, especially if the two characters just freshly knew each other during the stressful situation of the movie. Movies like Lake Placid (1999) did the right thing by ending the movie with the two characters going to dinner to know each other more after the events of the movie instead of straight-up kissing or sucking faces. Helen Hunt & Bill Paxton already knew each other _very_ well in the OG Twister so them hooking up at the end after re-igniting their sparks is pretty understandable.
They arealmost always unrealistic in action movies anyway as they are in love after 5 minutes...
Tacked on romance have decreased the quality of many good movies.
Yeah, as people these days are losing sight on what it means to be human.
Personally this movie doesn't need a romantic subplot. Cause the way I think of it, if Daisy's character and Glen's character meet with no prior past history, they need time to build chemistry. Sometimes it can't just be instant chemistry like what Hollywood wants all the time. So I disagree with you about the romantic subplot. As a matter of fact, you mentioned the 90s disaster movies like Volcano which did have a romantic sideplot and that completely didn't work mainly cause it was odd having some relationship between Tommy Lee Jones and Anne Heche.
Romance? With a handsome cis white male?? How dare you?!
If I hear this one shoves climate change down our throats, then I’d skip this one.
Yeah. Climate changes happened when only 10 people lived on the planet too.
i watched like 20 min-WHAT A WASTE OF TIME THAT WAS!! not only looks like original-this one had that young girl and the annoying dude from maverick
