100% agree. Profiles allow for more flexibility and make your setup more "future proof" Profiles over pages over folders ... (I rarely use folders as they are not easily navigable)
@@WOTBoxTV that’s why I don’t use folders, I use endless pages. And profiles are great but they actually take longer to transition and load when you have lots (20+). So for a smoother, streamlined production with less lag time between buttons. Pages actually work better
This is pretty cool, but I can see myself run out of hotbar space on anything smaller than 32 button stream deck. Edit: An easier way to do this would be to delete the previous/next page arrows and add just the page numbers right away. Also, you can duplicate a page with existing buttons, this might save time.
What an ingenius use of hotbar! I’m still using the original 15-keys stream deck and watching this makes me wanted to buy the XL for this hot key concept alone! I’m already seeing myself having dedicated page for all emulators, all fav windows app, ETS2, Sound Effects, etc.
The first thing I did when I started to use my Stream Deck (after playing with it for a little while), was adding one row of buttons, 5 in my case, that were the same on every page. Just because of the reasons you say. And left upper corner is always the 'page indicator' and left lower corner is always the 'page 1 - home - button'.
For anybody watching this more recently, it's easier to set this up now using pinned actions -- you don't have to copy and paste to every page. Also, to be clear, you can delete the prev/next page buttons and just use Go to Page buttons for everything. With that said, the hot bar is a really great idea, at least for the bigger Stream Decks. I'm not sure it makes sense for the Mini. Thanks for the video!
An immediate win! Just spent the last hour or so setting this up on my SD XL! Love it already! I stream, so am often toggling from one group of buttons to another, and this makes it so much more effortless to navigate! Beautiful!
Now you can Pin the hotbar icons to have them on every page, you could also use the "Auto Leave" feature for folders now which will automatically close the current folder after some time when a key was pressed. with the auto leave feature you could even replace the hotbar with folders and make it reset itself to the "home" page after key has been pressed
Wonderful video bro!! Keep up the excellent work. Just subscribed and liked. Can't wait to see more of your videos, especially getting better quality from a camera.
Thank you for the great idea. I've stolen it and use a fixed set of buttons to switch between profiles. When a profile is active I underline the icon in red in the corresponding button. I've also added an on/off button to turn off the deck completely. This stuff is great BTW.
This was (or is) exactly what I was looking for to make one of the numerous Stream Decks I want to have function for more than one purpose in a single Profile. I modified the stock Default Profile with the hot bar and now have 7 pages to fill up with commands for different applications, like OBS and some of my games.
I've wanted to get a stream deck for a while because I've just been doing keyboard and mouse binds for things which is just a hassle. Especially when gaming and I want to like mute my discord or something and the games don't always just let you move your mouse off the window - so you have to alt tab out or hit the win key to see your program bar. So I'm definitely going to look into getting one of these and follow this video!~
I agree, SD’s make life easier. The SD+ version is nice but I hope they release a XL version, this way we can have maybe 8 dials and a extra row or keys 😊
I have several profiles and some of my profiles span multiple pages and folders so I've found the best way for navigating all of those is to have a single home page with buttons that link to my different profiles which is about a dozen or so. Then every single profile has a button pinned (so it's on every page of that profile unless I override it) that takes me back to the "home" page.
Very similar to my hotbar idea, but instead of a singular home page I can have multiple. Combining profiles, folders and a hotbar can essentially link every page together easily. My main idea is to skip the homepage entirely as that’s 1 extra button press for every action I do if I swap pages
OMG I've been trying to look for ways to reorganize my stream deck and this is such a simply and efficient idea. The only difference I did was putting the number indicators on the top and then pinned them.
I used to have an ajazz and put the nav bar in a folder instead, you’ll have to do one extra click but you’ll have more slots for buttons of your pages and less copy pasting
The new navigation buttons mean that you can now just use 'go to page' function to do the same thing - which wasn't an option when this video was made.
I set mine up with a home button on each page. I then have application choices on the first page. Press Microsoft takes me to a page that gives me choice of excel, word or PowerPoint. So I press the word button goes to page of word commands. I’m not sure what advantage I could gain from a hot bar? Still hard to wrap my head around.
It’s mainly for speed based actions more so than ease of use. Basically a permanent hotbar allows you to essentially reach any of the potential 190+buttons to be accessed in just two clicks, one to the hot bar and one to the button wanted. Folders do work but as someone who has 50+ sound effects as well as screen effects and changes, a hotbar works much faster and stream lined for production purposes
1:09 were you aware that you can export (save/backup) your configuration onto your computer disk and later import it back into the same or different Streamdeck?
I would like to shut down my computer with one button press....Can you please share how?? Thanks for the information. Good Ideas! I don't do gaming but just use mine to open and close apps which I am still learning...Thanks again.
Interesting concept. With the new software this isn't needed any more. But I never have seen someone thinking so complicated. Why not making one page, adding the top row with all "switch to page xy" and then copy that page. Using the next page keys makes it so complicated ...
Oh nvm, I understand. I use the next page keys instead of (x) page key because you actually can’t remove the next page key at all. It has to be there, so instead of wasting space I use it as the page, hope that clarifies
I guess im too late, not getting the number page page, tried using the page indicator but its not giving the page assignment box under title. using stream Deck 6.6.0 (20583) is the latest version. maybe the feature was removed?
teach me - this is a new tech that i just discovered and being a disabled veteran i just realized what i have been missing out on all these years. Im going to make my own Icons i think
if you have youre software open, and you right click a button, in the dropdown there is a option "move to folder" and you click on it, do you have any idea where it goes?
it should just create a folder in place of the current icon you have selected. when moving to a folder, all you are doing is creating a streamdeck folder. if you wanted to find a copy of that folder it should be under your streamdecks file location on whichever drive you installed it on.
Great video-- I know its a year old... Maybe make a new one.. today you just need to make the setup on the first page, and then pin them.. Then they are on all pages. :)
I can't get behind this. You've reduced your button count greatly by assigning one quarter of all you buttons to navigation functions, and you've capped your maximum number of pages at eight, whereas if you used folders, it would be unlimited. Maybe it's okay if you use the XL but any smaller stream deck doesn't have space to waste like that.
It’s a trade off for sure. I prefer ease of access and as little button pressing as possible, this method I can find and click a button quicker than going through folders. Now the video is like a year old and elgato has pretty much negated this idea. But I see your point, a 6 button stream deck would be useless with this
very cool! but you also can use same technique by using "switch profile" button and create 8 (or many more) profiles

Your Star Wars memorabilia in the background of the video is excellent, a very good backdrop. Content is very useful too.

Excellent!! You have really shared a great technique. Thanks!!
I was doing this but every "hotbar" button was its own profile. I like this approach. Very cool.
Same here. Pretty straightforward and very flexible.
The hotbar idea is so smart! Not having to hup 8 times to go back again’

Thank you! It’s honestly sooo handy! It streamlines everything!
@@TheStreamWell implemented it right away😎🥸

Why not share the stream deck setup, it is as simple as export the profile
Just curious, whats the point of turning off your stream deck?

This is the way. I use a SD+ and 2 XLs. The + is my "hot bar" and controls both XLs' profiles with a multi-action.

dumb question but do you need to set the forward and back buttons at all if you just set pages? you can move to any page in between right ?
Nope no need for forward or back, unless you include more pages than you can have buttons in your hotbar

Can a button be held down as a SHIFT key or ALT key? Like in Blender you hold shift + the middle mouse button to pan. Releasing the shift to rotate.
I like it. I just recently got another SD and used it to open profiles on my second SD
