    I had both. I loved the TC for all the seemingly never ending options but when it came to live gigging, everything just died and I ended up doing it with no effects and totally raw and exposed. It was a nightmare and then I had to go to the process of elimination - including sound source at the venue. I tried it again somewhere else and same dilemma, so it wasn't the venue... I then researched like crazy and finally, suspect that it was actually something wrong with the pedal - because it was 'the last one in the country' but typically, I had gone passed the warrantee. I now use x2 VE-20's and have never been let down. The TC is GREAT for home recording but not to be relied on in a live environment in my opinion.

      Interesting. Defective unit. I have had mine for years it has always worked.
      I once ordered a pair of brand new stage monitors out of the box one didn't work. Took off the back 1 wire unconnected. QUALITY CONTROL often fails in electronics.

    I think this video brings me to the boss. I’m a bass player that does backing vocals most of the time. I need a pedal that can be bounced around. Boss has been in that game for decades

      It does. The TC Helicon is definitely more for experimentation in the studio than anything.

      The Boss is more natural because its more subtle and i think has some degree of analog signal. The TC helicon is more like a cheap ferrari it sounds more digital but the FX are more pronounced and you habe a far wider variety of fx in the tc helicon like it use of phasers , tape machine robotic sounds, etc.

    Hesitating to choose one from this two. I love super dreamy/ambient vocal heavy reverb/harmony/delay etc, which one might be better? I’ve heard ppl saying TC is w much more options but the boss one is easier to handle when you play live ? Also wonder do they have loop option too? Many thx xxx

    • @newcastlemusicstudios
      @newcastlemusicstudios  2 года назад

      Boss had a loop function on it. Boss is easy to step on yes. Byt you can switch presets on the TC with a step as well.
      Tc has way more ootions especially of u like dreamy reverb and delay settings, TC is way better.
      TC is my choice at this point. The loop function is more advanced on the Tc helicon. Boss loop function is very easy because it has a large LOOP BUTTON.
      Be patient and learn how you would luke to use it and eventually itll be easy.

    You turn on the reverb on the boss but not on the tc helicon.. that is why the boss sound no so natural.. Pls do a test again this time wirh exactly the same effect same song & go back & fort on each effect.. If you test the tc helicon first then the boss then we forgot what the tc helicon sound compared to the boss.. you have to go back & fort for each kind of effect

    • @newcastlemusicstudios
      @newcastlemusicstudios  9 месяцев назад

      I believe i did that because the person who requested the video asked me to use the boss presets whether the reverb was on or not. But if u listened to the whole thing, there are a few examples with no reverb on the Boss right away, then with added reverb. I dont think either of them sound like "Natural harmonies." Top be honest if you stack your vocals in. DAW then record 5 harmonies, ut is actaully the variation or vinrato in each take you do that creates a natural sound. Whereas if you copy n past your voice in a DAW to recreate this effect you will hear how unnatural stack the same vocal take sounds and that is all each pedal is doing is stack the harmony in real time. However you can click n record n save your harmonies in the Boss to get a more natural sound if you spwnd enough time mastering the art of foot pedal recording on stage etc. But thanks for the comment i appreciate everyone's contribution and thoughts as they are helpful to others.

    I’ve had both. And with a small stage and heavy drummer the gain control makes it very challenging to mix where the vocals are out front still louder than other instruments. I’ve had a feedback nightmare the last couple shows… which brings me to RUclips because I know it’s most likely user error.

    • @newcastlemusicstudios
      @newcastlemusicstudios  2 года назад +1

      Oftenthere is too much reverb and delay when it is not necessary n a live situation. Always best to program your own preset or turn down the reverb n delay.

      @@Xiaoo879 The Boss 100%. But once you sit down for a couple hours with the tc helicon, it does compete. Especially with the foot pedal fuctions.
      The Bose is more user friendly. I felt like I needed a sound engineer degree at times with the tc helicon. And it didn’t have vocal eq. Just a great fx capabilities.
      I didn’t need all of the functions. I just need to have more gain flexibility and a clean balanced sound going to the board with minimal fx. Just reverb on like 15 and delay on 20.
      I love the loop feature on the boss. I use it to mic check my mic because I am our sound guy. That allows me to get out in front of the mains to mix all instruments except my guitar.
      The Boss also looks way cooler and is built WAY tougher. Also has 9v battery function so if you don’t have power right in front of you, you can still have vocal fx.
