- Frank Zappa playing Any Kind of Pain guitar solo.
This is just a lo-fi audio/video resolution.
You can find the whole song on Broadway The Hard Way album in a perfect audio quality. One of the best albuns ever. Believe me. - Видеоклипы
this is one of my favorite guitar solos ever.
That's not true. Frank actually said in an interview I read yesterday that the instant challenge of soloing is his favorite part of performing, and he describes how special it is to go out on stage and convert his instant compositional idea into sound patterns, improvising stuff that no one has ever heard before. He describes the feeling as "better than sex". It's very clear that he was a soloist, and one of the best guitar soloists of all time. He was certainly the best in all of rock music.
I agree in all points with the guy who broadcasts this video.
This is one of the most beautiful solos I've ever heard.
And the "sound" of the guitar, man !!!
Still, with a cheezy recording quality, the sound he uses on this tune really CUTS THROUGH. It's so articulate and clear.
I was at his concert in Mannheim ...
When he was alive, it was mostly like XMas several times a year, waiting for the new "musical surprise" of him, and enjoying the new album.
Thanks for posting my All-time favourite Zappa solo :0)
This is a very clean solo you can almost smell the freshness of the early morning air in it!
@EarthSuburb
his guitar sound on this whole tour was amazing, not just this song. but something about these chords really brought out the best in him, like the solo in inca roads.
FZ was a totally underated guitar player....love the 'Curtis Mayfield' double stops
wow nice to hear the un edited version of this, allways loved this on the album, great to see and hear it as it realy was and is..
0:57 to 1:34 and the last little bit are not in the album version.... its great to hear this lovely solo in it's entirety!
killer solo from broadway the hard way.....
Nice work from Mr. Zappa. If all solos are self-indulgent, well, then, I guess all music is self indulgent. The best music comes through people who abandon their ego to allow the music to play them. Some musicians know what I'm talking about. Learn some chops, sing or play or both and let go. It's an indescribable experience.
P.S. : Dweezil does a great job these last days ... he's a very nice man ... the music is still something amazing ... I'd wished he could have enjoyed his dad a few more years.
I cried when I heard he died. I knew he was very sick, but I thought, that, well !!! You know !!! You always think that some treatment can cure the ones you really like ...
Well, thank you a million times Mr zemoraes000 for posting this one.
Bkn.
my friend said he looked like luigi during the 88 tour.... i told him to show some f**king respect XD
It's some how more crazy in parts!
Where was this live ?
I love this song and I need to have a dvd with this one !
You are right
Don't get me wrong. I adore Zappa for all of his beautifully bizarre compositions, his sense of melody and his work as an outstanding bandleader.
As for my incriminated criticism on his guitar solos: read his autobiography. Chapter "About music".
As for myself: In general I don't like guitar solos in (and that has nothing to do with me being a bass player). It's just that most of Frank's solos just bore the youknowwhat out of me. self-indulgent noodling isn't exactly my cup of tea...
what a jagoff
mmmmm......Zappa......my favorite flavor!!!
Did he use this version for the album? or did he just play the first part of the solo with the exact same sound ?
I think he put parts of different solos on the album and took a few bars out so it flowed better. It is all still improv, tho.
Great solo but since ive saw every line up of the Mothers and Franks Bands i always wished he woulda spent the same amount of time practicing as he did for the Zoot Alures tour ,after having serious money troubles that couldnt support the payroll of his huge bands FZ went to the woodshed knowing he would be lead guitar on all songs off the album and he was a G Damn Monster on that tour .
oh yes, i have. listen to the solo of "hot plate heaven". and listen to "eric dolphy memorial barbecue" or "black napkins". get the picture?
he looks like my dad sometimes lol. especially on the cover of broadway the hard way
Its a picking technique. Hes scraping the strings as hes picking
no, i'm just d'accord with frank. read his autobiography. btw, if anything, my ears would be not blind but d.e.a.f. which they are definitely not.
is this supposed to be heart rending ? i am moved even by lo fi. ps not heard this version of the solo
@eddiearzanian All guitar solos can be described as self indulgent noodling...that's right all of them. Question is, does it sound good? I guess you say no. Good for you...who cares?
listen to the phazer effects from franks guitar from 1:37 - 1:43 = O
He does it with his fingernail
guitar effects?
i've admired that guitar solo for some 20 years now. the best one frank has ever played, i mean it's one rare occasion to hear frank actually deliver a truly fine piece of craftsmanship - concerning guitar solos. honestly, 90% of the stuff, his solos in a manner of speaking, is crap. he's not a soloist. he even admitted that himself...oh, and don't mind checking out the mike keneally's version of this one somewhere else on youtube. you'll be stunned. eat your greens!
Keneally has no "version" of this, he directly copied as much as he could. He gets close to it. This remark by itself rather indicates you don't really know what you're doing with this material.
he is italian lol
what are you up to? A flame war? A "shitstorm" (as they call it)? (wo)man, don't be _reedeeculous_, it's just discussing a guitar solo in an admittedly quite certain context. remember my original comment.
If you can't stand the heat, don't gaslight the kitchen
