AMEN!!!!!!!!! This type of tutorial is hard to find. I have an amazing carved exquisite three drawer dresser that I found in a junk shop for less than 10.00. BUT the drawers were missing the original drawer slides. I knew this could be repaired, done so I bought the dresser. What I did not expect is for it to wind up more complicated than it did. This saved me from losing anymore hair over what to do. You can count on this project getting down this weekend! Smiling a lot!!!!!
You are so welcome!
@@ErikMcCauley Now to find a locksmith to figure out how to lock the thing. Got to have it back to its original Glory!!!
Very practical I give you the max grade =A+
specially your last comment: '' mount screw almost tight but movable , push drawer in, it will center itself . then tighten it.
There , you earned your A+ ( today, I am in generous mood, A+++ )
Greetings from north California.
I have old chests with one bottom center mount wood glide. I’ve looked everywhere for this exact tutorial! Exactly what I needed. THANK YOU 👏🏻👏🏻
Was just looking to do this for my parents old drawers. Thank you
I have a dresser where the drawers drop down every day! So aggravating!! I have replaced those plastic center drawer guides until I am blue in the face! Gonna try your method! I am not handy but I think I can do it after watching your video! Thank you!!!!
Sherismiley your welcome! Good luck.
Great video, even better pj pants!! Exactly what I’m trying to do to mine, very thorough and well explained.
Your video was very helpful! I replaced the wood slides on my dresser as a result of viewing your video. I had to widen the grooves on the drawer and add a mullion strip (cut for proper width) to gain the proper clearance. It was an odd configuration with four drawers on the bottom, two per side, with two smaller center drawers on top with one drawer to each side of those. I'm glad you considered the drawer front alignment, as I might not have considered that. Everything lines up beautifully and I swear the drawers work better than when I first bought it. I used Hickory Hardware slides from Menard's (a home improvement store where I live). I don't know why I didn't think to do this long before, but went searching for a video when the idea occurred to me, and your video made my mind up to do it. Thank you!
Thank you Peter! Your instructions are very helpful!
I just saw a best video to install drawer slides. Thanks Erik and best person behind the camera. My best wishes to both of you
YOU ARE FABULOUS!!!!!! I have been going crazy trying (with my limited skills) to figure out how to do this! This was EXACTLY what I needed. You answered every question i had & I am so happy!!! Thank you!!
HUH...crazy...that's an understatement. You know how many times I dragged a drawer to HD/LOwes only to have them look at me like lady DUH????
Awesome video! Exactly what I need to fix my broken drawer.
This is AWESOME!!! Thank you so much for making this video!
Erik your explanations and Video is one of the best I have been searching to do a under-mount on my old furniture. Thanks it made my works lot easier .
Thanks Peter. I had the same problem! Looked for hours!
Thanks! Very helpful! I'm ordering my Accuride Mounts tonight!

Peter, I was looking into the slides and they are like 10 per package but all the work I need to invest in. I need like 8 of them to. I think I am going to buy a new dresser. Thanks for the video. It really was very beneficial.
ok good, luck, remember to check the drawer slides on the new dresser, dont buy another one with wood slides. good luck :)

I was also having trouble finding a detailed and comprehensive video on these Under-mount Glides. This was just what I needed to make my sliding trays for our Pots and Pans.

Good Job, Erik. Interesting video, thanks. Keep up the good work and show us how to do it. Phillip
But seriously, nice video. Thanks.
love your pants
Can you come do my repurposed dresser!?! Great job. Thanks for the tips!! Love that you were rocking pjs!!
Sophia Oswalt Thanks for the positive comments!!!.
Thanks, your video really helped! It took a while, but I got three drawers fixed that have been bugging me for years. The directions that came with it were nowhere near as helpful as your video was!
Very helpful, thanks. Been looking all over for clues on how to do this.
Thanks Peter, glad i could help. Sounds like we were in the same boat!
Erik, I measured the depth of our drawer and it is 17 inches. Should we use a 17 inch slide or is it better to use the shorter 15 inch...I love that I saw your video, because my son was getting ready to throw out a perfectly good dresser because the wooden slides were so damaged, so mom is going to make this repair, and then keep the dresser!
+Brandon Liebert Hi Brandon, if your exactly 17 then i would use the 15 inch model as the 17 might be just a hair too long. Best of luck!
Can I just hire you to do this for me lol
My drawers have plastic sliding like the wood sliding in the video but they're on the sides instead of the bottom
Hi..I have a older 2 dresser . has wood side glides. small square rail that fits into a slotted grove as the slide. drawer is hard to slide and has some weight with junk in there. should i install bottom glides to handle the weight?? there is no trim in back area so have to mount a strip of wood to sit rail on it. i have 1/2 inch clearance on both sides. do you think that is the easiest and best mothed. thanks for you help and enjoyed the video. Allen
Thank you for doing this video! One question, are the Accuride glides better than any other brand? Pam
Hi Pam, I did see some better ones with soft close you could buy but for cheap dressers its a waste in my option as these work well while not breaking the bank. Good luck with your project!
Do you have to install the backing if your dresser does not need to be extended? My drawers are 14 inches.
Very detailed video!
Where can I get some red moose pants?
Had to travel all the way to Bar Harbor Maine for those bad boys!
Thanks, this is so helpful! Quick question - when you say to pre-drill the holes to attach the mounting pieces to the backing of the dresser, does that mean to pre-drill holes in the backing, or in the mounting pieces themselves, or both? Also, how long did you let the wood glue set before screwing the mounting pieces to the backing? Thanks again!
Heather, apologies for the delay, we were traveling. Yes you need to pre drill the holes through both the backers and the backing of the cabinet. The easiest way to do this is to drill from the inside of the cabinet (otherwise you are drilling from the backside and "guessing" where the backer is and you'll need someone to hold the piece from the inside (possibly dangerous with drill bits popping through unannounced). If you drill from inside then you will see the pre-drill hole easily from the back and you can screw in your set screws easily from the back. As for the glue, if you have your pilot holes set, you can apply the glue then drill the set screw from the back immediately. The screw will pull the two pieces together and allow the glue to dry. I dont recommend installing the drawers for 24 hours until the glue has set.
OK, great! Thank you. :-)
I am in desperate need of fixing my daughter's dresser drawers from falling out. It is an antique dresser that she starts crying about if I mention replacing it (painted all pink and fancy...) I am positive I can do this fix but I don't know if I should get the 13" slide or 15". What do I measure to get the right length slide? The length from the front of the dresser and back where the center slide is currently or the length of the slide on the drawer? The measurements are significantly different. About 15" from wood to wood in the dresser, but the drawer is only 12 or 13" depending on where you measure from. Thanks for any help. I really appreciate it. Love videos from users such as yourself so I can save valuable time and money.
+Kristina Poling Hi Kristina, if you look at approx 6:34 seconds in this video it will show you where the slide will end up so this is a good location on your dresser to measure. If you measure the location where you see my slides positioned and that is less than 15 inches, you'll want to buy the 13 inch slides shown here: amzn.to/1F5okbe. If its betwen 15 and 17 inches you'll want the original 15 inch ones shown the in the video. Good luck!
Hi Peter :) Thanks so much for posting this video! Will these work for standard old kitchen drawers? We just bought a new (ish) home built in the early 80's. To save money I want to keep the cabinets and just reface, but the slides are old wood...splintering and sticking and such. Thanks again!
Sage K its possible However i'd probably look for a kitchen style drawer slide since they are much higher quality and can put up with the higher use a kitchen puts up with. You can also get soft-close technology which is nice, even if your cabinets are older. If your looking to stay on the cheap these could work, but make sure to get side mounted slides if your cabinets already have side slides and bottom mounted if they have bottom mounted. This will ensure you have the most clearance available when installing your new slides with the least amount of modification.
Is the amazon link only one slider?
My dressers have one metal runner under each drawer that look like they have ball bearings in them. Anyway, almost all of my drawers now fall when they are pulled out. It doesn't look (to me) like anything is broken but it's just not holding the drawer anymore. Is there anyway I can fix this or replace those runners?
+reyangi sounds like a poor quality slide that bent open releasing the inner track from the outer one which caused the failure. This usually happens where there is too much weight. You can try installing the ones i used or if the drawers are heavy use two of them to distribute the weight evenly. Good luck!
Hey Erik is there any way of removing the drawers after the drawers have been installed with these center slides?
yes, the Accuride slides have releases on the bottom that allow the drawer to come out fully if necessary.
I think you can learn more about it on woodprix.
Cool Shantay
Erik, I desperately need help with my dresser drawers. I have a dresser that we have had for many years. It is still in good condition, except that it sticks and doesn't close. I don't want to buy a new dresserI don't have a bottom mount though. These slides are originally on the side, but I feel that the ones that go under the drawer are better. Would I be able to do this ?
HI Jessica,
Im sure you can do it, check out these side mount slides by Accuride, same concept and i'm sure you can pull it off. If you can take a drawer out and send me a picture i bet i can find you a video that will get you what you need to repair! www.amazon.com/s?ie=UTF8&page=1&rh=n%3A511238%2Cp_4%3AAccuride%2Cp_n_feature_keywords_browse-bin%3A2803226011
I have an older dresser with metal slides, some don't really slide. Think I could replace them with these?
5210smile yea absolutely. Just don't get bottom mount slides unless your replacing bottom mount slides. They make side mount slides as well. Here is a link to some nice ones that even have the "soft close feature" amzn.to/1MDwmYw
It is bottom mount :-)
I have this problem but mine is in the center and looks like it has rubber balls on the slides.....
Patricia Kidd it should be relatively similar as long as the drawer is built so that you can remove the existing slides. the slides mentioned in this video are designed to be center mounted so you can use one of them in the center instead of two on the sides if you want. Just be aware the weight limits will be lower but still within acceptable usage for a dresser as long as you install well. Best of luck!
