Dean is awesome. I emailed Dean a question on Friday and by Friday evening, Dean had responded to my question. I then had a few more questions to ask Dean about a drawer stop and Dean responded within a few hours. I did not expect this quick turnaround at all. With Dean's help (which included providing me with an image of the part I could purchase on Amazon), I was able to fix the drawer that kept falling out with a drawer stop. THANK YOU DEAN!! :)

My mom was ready to throw out a dresser because the drawers were not working properly, and my Pops just recently passed, so he isn't here to fix it. I remembered you mentioning different fixes in a few of your videos, so I hopped on here wondering if I would be able to find them and thought to myself how awesome it would be if you had made a video dedicated solely to drawer repairs. Imagine my utter surprise when BAM, I found this one!!! Thank you so much Dean -- you are constantly sharing your knowledge in an easygoing, comprehensible manner. You saved the day (and my Mom's furniture) during a time when my family could really use a win. Much love ❤️

Thanks! I am trying. Doing good. It got slow for a couple of months then insanely busy. Plus fighting the heat having to shut down work around noon and pick back up around 6 pm but it will drop to the 90s soon so should be back on track. Thanks Jay

Dude! 2 things, I’m just getting in to restoring furniture and I’ve learned a lot of this by trial and error but the drawer flipping thing just helped me fix a 70s Thomasville. I guess they’d been switched.
And the 90° bit is a life saver. I acquired a writers desk about the same 70’s vintage that was totally missing a screw from the factory that secured the top to the frame. I guess they just forgot because there’s pocket for it but no entry holes or anything. But that allowed me to get in through the drawer opening all the way to the back of the desk and put one in it without disassembling the bottom. Huge help.

Oh dear. I went and looked at an antique dresser that I plan on redoing when it becomes fit for humanity again. All the pets come in by noon and don't go out except for potty breaks, until evening. This dresser my late MIL mixed every paint they have laying around and it is a thick dog poop brown. Anyway, if I can't figure out how to fix the drawers, I may have to email you. I just looked and it is the funkiest set up I have ever seen! My jaw dropped when I looked just now.

Those slides can be pricey! If you're doing a flip and saving money is an issue (when isn't it?) keep an eye out for a worn-out dresser by the side of the road on Trash Day. We just "rescued" a set of eight drawer slides from a battered and broken example and saved ourselves $60.00!

Thanks Dean. Now I know what to do with my wobble of a drawer in the kitchen. I am picking up the paint brush again after two years. Working on a dresser that has missing center slides. Probably an easy thing to do on the table saw. I have one. Scared to death of it. Bought it, took three years to put it together and it’s been sitting for two years 😬. It’s a beast! Contractor Rigid saw. But those drawer slides are calling. Thanks for sharing with us.

If you are in the U.S. send me a photo of what the slide looks like with measurements. I literally have like 80 here that I have hoarded out of dressers I made into hall tables.

Dean - You rock! Such a great dude and great instructions. Always to the point, mellow, and you just know your stuff so well.
My wife had an old 5-drawer dresser, and all the drawer slides were totally shot. I was able to get them all successfully replaced!
It’s looking pretty good, and 4 of the 5 drawers are back to completely perfect functionality.
(After installing new center mount bottom slides on all 5 drawers, and installing two drawer bumper tacks under each drawer)
However!! One drawer… The 3rd (middle) drawer.. it super “tight” when you slide it in/out. Almost like you’re pushing it where it doesn’t want to be.
What is the best way to go about fixing that??? If tried looking everywhere, and cannot seem to find a specific area of tightness or “rub zone”…
Help me Obi Wan Deannobi! You’re my only hope!! 😅
Appreciate you tremendously! Thanks in advance.

I have a track system that looks identical to the track system of this piece with the wooden lower track and metal upper track. The wood tracks on the dresser are worn out, just like you showed in on of your other videos. I cannot find wooden replacement pieces that match what I have. I've found some that are close from Vintage Slides. But they're not as tall. Would I need to buy the replacement pieces and add some shims underneath to bring them up? Or do you have any other suggestions?

    • @DeanFurnitureArtist
      @DeanFurnitureArtist  Год назад +1

Yes, you can always shim them. How many do you need? If you can send me photos with measurements I may have some here in my stash. Another option I have done in the past is to flip them backward. Make the front the back. Always seems like the front wears first but the back is fine. Also, I am sure you probably already did this but just in case you haven't, Amazon has a ton of them in different sizes and you could even buy the wood-metal combo and replace the whole thing over finding a wood piece that matches your metal.

Great video!! I'm wondering if you know how to fix this scenario...
Chest of drawers with drawers pushed in... on 1 drawer both sides of the drawer front simultaneously gap away from the cabinet while the center of the drawer front (top and bottom) sits flush with the cabinet. The drawer slide mechanism I have is a wooden rail on the bottom of the cabinet and a plastic slider piece on the bottom of the drawer near the rear (no rail on the bottom of the drawer). Any idea how to adjust to make the drawer front sit flush? Sorry, I don't know how to attach a picture.

If you can’t see or feel a drawer stop then the drawer stop is built into the track slide. Just give it a good hard pull to pass the bump stop.

If it’s a single center track like you see in my videos then most likely it has a plastic or spring tab on the track. You just have to give it a really hard jerk to get it past the drawer stop.
