To me the surface is a laptop and the iPad is a tablet. A device that can fulfil both with good optimisation is near impossible because a simplified touch interface compared to a feature packed desktop one are so vastly different. Both of these products are much better than the phone tablet combo designs coming out though.
As a blind user, I have been using iPads as my only computer for a few years now. ,I find the combination of portability and mobile connectivity essential for what I need a computer for. For me, it's changed my life.
It's simple, iPad Pro for entertainment and Surface pro for real work. iPad can do some work, but Surface is more capable for real work due to Windows.
@@tahmeenanazarwal10 Notetaking is better with the Surface Pro 6. For one, you got the whole office suite of apps- and, full-fledged at that. Onenote and etc may not be as optimized, but they also do auto-sync and accept a lot more inputs. For notetaking, I assume you are in a school setting of some sort- Easy switching from laptop to tablet; overall better for the price.
It's so funny Apple advertises iPad as laptop replacement when they are holding their iPad down with ios. It would be way better if they make dual boot and let us choose btw ios and mac os when booting it up.
EragoEntertainment thats not the point. Windows 10 is not nearly as good for tablet apps as ios The surface really is as good as a completely normal laptop but they just beed to improve the tablet part of it
Long Phạm Hải I used Nox before and many apps are available, but if Microsoft was completely on board and cooperate with google, the tablet experience on the surface would be greatly improved.
Paperlike is a godsend. Just really, really good. I actually prefer it as a screen protector so that those who don't need it, can use the display in its full glory and the rest of us has the better drawing experience.
Slightly textured. I like the feel. It dampens the colors slightly (as it usually happens with non gloss displays). And I'm still on the first tip (10.5 2017 iPad). So I don't feel wear and tear. I do have to mention that I changed my pressure sensitivity to rather high. So I get maximum pressure with relatively low actual pressure.
Bought them both and surprisingly wife and I returned the surface. The iPad Pro does a great job being a tablet first, but also a more limited computer BUT it’s a great as serving as your phone while on it. You can call, text, FaceTime, etc...basically it boiled down to the smooth continuity between iPhone, Mac, & iPad Pro. Zero buyers remorse.
Addition to the comparison: The Apple pencil has insanely low latency. It's almost as if writing in real life. Note: Not an apple/MS fanboi. I tried the Surface Stylus with the MS-built apps on the Surface Studio 2 and Surface Pro 6, and the Apple Pencil on the Apple Notes(?) app on iPad Pro 2018. Surface products still lag behind by quite a bit in that regard.
They are a tiny bit laggier, yes but you can still create great artwork (I am an art student), in my opinion, if you are going to university the Surface Pro 6 is just way better, amazing for lectures and great for chilling, playing all your favorite games. Plus the USB port is a godsend and the extra SD slot.
Jenessa Wright yeah my school doesn’t work with pages either but when you export the document you can choose word. Also, I get free Microsoft word as a student but I still choose pages.
I have a Surface Pro 4 and I love it. The Surface replaced my heavy notebook back then and it does an excellent job for that purpose. It has an excellent display, very good keyboard and one of the best Windows touchpads. For reading it's nice to detach the keyboard and I enjoy marking text and adding notes with the Surface pen. In comparison, the iPad Pro fails as being marketed as a Surface competitor. The iPad is the best tablet but it could never replace my laptop.
The surface pen is no longer based off wacom tech and hasn't been since surface pro 2. Microsoft purchased Ntrig technology and since then the surface 3 and up are based on Ntrig technology, hence the battery.
@@dsangel4135 Lmao, I really hope college students aren't buying iPad Pro's just to take notes because that's about all the college work they'll be able to do on those things.

I already have a laptop so I got the IPad Pro. This is my first apple product I’ve had in a long time and I hope support further develops this device. People are worried about bending it by sitting.. a person with common sense would place it on a table after they’re done. Not a chair.
I’m a huge apple fan because apple ecosystem is so good!!! But this guy almost convinced me that Surface is better than iPad. And i agree!!! But when it comes to being a tablet iPad is great, which he also mentioned in the video. I truly loved this video and the authenticity. Great work 👍
I have one opinion, i have the iPad Pro for a iPad, not a laptop, the surface pro is basically a laptop, so what’s the point?! Instead of getting the surface pro, just get the Microsoft laptop! My brother has a surface pro and in my opinion, the iPad Pro key board is a lot comfier than the surface pro’s.
Depends on your personal needs. I use the iPad Pro for almost all my computing needs, and do not run into any problems. However, for some I could totally understand that they need more power for their computing needs.
Eyy! Thanks a lot Max! Yup - that + proper external monitor support would make it the perfect device! Curious to see how Apple solves the Thunderbolt 3 issue (as it's an Intel licensed technology which is not supported on non-intel chipsets).
The Surface has never been a "tablet" even Microsoft doesn't consider it a "tablet" they refer to it as a "ultra portable pc" stop calling it a "tablet"! MS should have shipped the Surface pro 6 with USB Type C smh guess in Surface Pro 7 they will get that right.
boxertest they did it purposefully, just like all their other portable surface computers, they don’t want to step over their supporters like Dell, HP, Lenovo, etc. The surface line are great computers, But they are always missing features that the other PC manufacturers push first. Think of The surface line as Demo products to help the rest of the Microsoft PC’s.
Yes. I have yet to see anyone using any surface product without the keyboard. Touch control on Windows is painful, and the surface is too heavy and thick to hold it in one hand. It’s simply not a tablet.
Great comparison, completely agree. The iPad is great but for productivity the Surface is much better. I've tried using the iPad (not pro) for work but I was having to find workarounds too often (eg being restricted to mobile apps).
All windows are desktop. There is no exclusive tablet version or Mobile they got rid of it. Windows 10 has a tablet mode so you get a desktop platform that's touch friendly or is it. Doesn't matter having full desktop software on such a device is still better!
If the iPad was full mac os it be awesome. I needed a new computer for school, and it needed full photoshop, illustrator, etc so I went with the surface pro 6
Replace is the word people keep bringing up with the iPad Pro. But that’s not what it was made for. iPad is best when paired with a computer, specifically Mac. I use iPad for notes, drawing on PDFs, scanning documents, and sometimes typing documents. I use mac to do other work that will never be better on a tablet. If you want the best tablet, get iPad, if you want the best 2 in 1, the surface pro could be great for you. Apple didn’t make a 2 in 1, and never will.
Kevin Paulsen Apple really only have themselves to blame by trying to market this as a computer. It's a shame really as it is a great device in its own right.
Nikka M they don’t market it as a computer. They call it a tablet. In their ads, they say “like a computer, unlike any computer.” That’s what it is, doing somethings a computer can, but many things it can’t.
@@kevinpaulsen6103 You mustn't have seen the ads then of the last few years - Apple are clearly trying to redefine (for want of a better word) what a "computer" is. The mere fact that they use the word "computer" at all already suggests that they want people to think of it more as a computer, not as a tablet. The unrelenting comparisons to computers comes from Apple themselves, it didn't just come out of nowhere.
@@kevinpaulsen6103 : At the last keynote, Apple emphasized that the new iPad Pro is “faster than 92% of all portable PCs sold in the past 12 months" - why should they compare the iPad Pro with "computers", when the iPad Pro is "only a tablet"?
Agree except that for me the tablet experience is too poor on the Surface to actually replace a tablet. If I had to choose between just the iPad and the Surface I would choose Surface with full applications. The choice for me is between full PC or Tablet. I owned the Surface Pro 4 and it was a great PC. While it can act as a tablet, that's all it is, acting. Windows is not a good tablet solution. The buttons are not optimized for finger touch and I ended up having to use the pen to do typical tablet functions. An iPad is a fantastic tablet experience and the new iPad Pro looks like it's going to be even better. Unfortunately it is not a PC. All of the serious apps are dumbed down applications, except maybe the new Photoshop, and not fully functional like on a PC. It is not easy to copy files to and from the iPad and you can't just download files. Sure there is iCloud or Dropbox etc. but then you always have to have a network connection to get stuff done. For me, though I liked the Surface Pro 4, I had to carry around a USB fan keep it cool when I played any games. This kept it from slowing down due to heat (thermal throttling). The ports are almost as limited as the iPad and I ended up with a bunch of dongles. I sold it for a more powerful MacBook Pro (thin, light and powerful) where I run Mac OS and Windows simultaneously. If I want to play games I boot to an external SSD where I run windows and play any windows game I want on my Mac. I use my phone for quick tablet type uses.
I think it depends on what you do. For me, i can work more faster with Iphone + Ipad as Iphone + Surface or Android + Surface. And IOS has features which windows doesnt have and the other way. As a student, writing feels much more realistic on the ipad as on the surface (just my opinion!) Ipad OS will fix the most problems and photoshop (full version) will come to the ipad. Personally i cant believe that photoshop and for example Vegas Pro are running smooth on the surface with that hardware. Just because photoshop pro can be run on windows, it doesnt mean that it will be working as you want. Just my opinion, give both of them a try.
i hate when people do reviews for these pads qith pens and speak about the art aspect of it when i use this function in business writning notes which is what sells me on the surface pro everytime as a contractor vs jogging on diffrent pieces of paper
Surface pro6 is a LAPTOP which can use like TABLET. i pad pro is a TABLET which can use like TABLET. If you were a student, I think you should buy surface pro 6.
lol I’m a student and I used to take notes with surface pro 4..talking about surface pen, I’d have to tell you that..one battery can last longer than you can imagine..usually 2-3 months..
About the AAA battery in the pen..."really, really, in 2018, really?" Yes, OMG, a standard, small, cheap, replaceable battery! Totally the way to go. Sorry that you cant see that.
@bryce hunter multitasking? The windows have that feature first before ipad did. And a computer which can pass as a tablet is way better than an actual tablet.
How’s the writing experience on the Surface? Good for taking notes as a student? 🤔 Also, can you make an updated version of this video? (iPadOS, new Surface etc...) Thanks for the great video!
1:08 The Surface PEN is listed on Amazon but the Apple Pencil is listed on the Apple store and usually things listed on Amazon are cheaper than they are on the company's official store.
Again the biggest problem Apple usually has is the price. The iPad is a decent device but really, it's hard to justify the price if you not doing real work on it. And, when you're doing real work, the surface blows it out of the water. I'll just settle for the cheap iPad.
I already knew which device you were going to pick before I watched the video because I have owned both devices and I also would choose the surface pro over the iPad any day. I guess great minds think alike. The iPad has great hardware but it can never replace a laptop until they fix the software which I don't see them doing anytime soon.
As an Apple fan boy; the Surface Pro was the devices that have been waiting for Apple to make for sometime. I got tried of carrying both a Macbook and Ipad. Couldn't see in Apple's future roadmap; so jumped back to Windows and purchased a Surface Pro. No regrets.
They are from two different product class. One has a mobile OS and other a full blown desktop OS. Therefore Surface can be compared to Mac, but not to an iOS powered device.
So quick update, I opted to buying a 12.0" gen 2 ipad pro. Why? From my own research it seems to have a more seamless drawing experience compared to surface or other window tablets. Gen 2 because I was looking for something affordable while still carrying 4GB RAM
I also bought the 526 GB model of the last iPad Pro. I ended up getting a Surface Book 2 after selling the iPad Pro. I picked it up the SB2 used and no more iPad for me. I know people like the iPad but the SB2 replaced my MacBook 12" and iPad as well.
Both are great choices...it depends entirely on what you need it for. If your're podcasting or building apps you'd want the Surface Pro. If you're building websites and vlogging...the iPad Pro. Trying to compare both price wise by comparing apples to apples, the Surface Pro is $200 more with no LTE even possible (if using full retail pricing.) That's for Device with LTE & 1TB SSD,, Pencil, Keyboard, & extended warranty. Surface also requires monthly commitment for Office whereas Pages is free (and awesome I might add.)
I can't justify getting the newest iPad pro as I just bought the 12.9" last fall. I love it. But I was wondering if there's a Logitech Slim Combo yet for the newest iPad. The one I have on my 2017 iPad pro is excellent, much better than the Apple keyboard. Backlit keys and an extra row of keys.
I am a medical student. I need a tablet to help me studying. I have a lot of pdfs to download and a lot of books. I also use a lot of Anatomy apps from play store to study. Which one you think i should get? I have a laptop but it is slowly dying and i want a device that will last me at least 5 years. Thank you so much and i m sorry if my English is not very good, i am from Spain.
I have the Surface Pro (5), which I bought literally weeks before the Pro 6 came out. Apart from the watchdog timeout, I have really enjoyed this machine. I use it as both a laptop and a tablet. Have not yet mastered the surface pen. I really like it for youtubing in bed watching concerts or netflixing :)
The surface line is a laptop. You can remove the keyboard, but it’s a laptop. Apple could have blown it away, but they have continued to fear making the iPad Pro a laptop replacement...they don’t want multiple device customers to stop buying MacBook pros, and should they have added mouse support and decent support for monitor output (these units certainly have the processing power) many of us could get by just fine with an iPad.

It would be nice if microsoft let us use android store too.
Microsoft is so behind on their store that I doubt they will ever catch up.
@@hryank33 surface has full windows 10, literally the most applications you could install on any OS.
EragoEntertainment thats not the point. Windows 10 is not nearly as good for tablet apps as ios
The surface really is as good as a completely normal laptop but they just beed to improve the tablet part of it
@@hryank33 well, i think some android simulator such as Nox will work
Long Phạm Hải I used Nox before and many apps are available, but if Microsoft was completely on board and cooperate with google, the tablet experience on the surface would be greatly improved.
Paperlike is a godsend. Just really, really good. I actually prefer it as a screen protector so that those who don't need it, can use the display in its full glory and the rest of us has the better drawing experience.
Christoph Riess How does it feel when you touch it with your hands compared to having no screen protection though?
Doesn't it wear the pencil tip off quicker?
I would also like to know this please!
Christoph Riess thanks for the info
Apple just cut it down even lower to 9ms instead of 20
They are a tiny bit laggier, yes but you can still create great artwork (I am an art student), in my opinion, if you are going to university the Surface Pro 6 is just way better, amazing for lectures and great for chilling, playing all your favorite games. Plus the USB port is a godsend and the extra SD slot.

Love my Surface Pro... The best way to describe these two. iPad you buy to play. Surface Pro is for business.
Dustin Adam and spend laptop money for a toy.

I’m a huge apple fan because apple ecosystem is so good!!! But this guy almost convinced me that Surface is better than iPad. And i agree!!! But when it comes to being a tablet iPad is great, which he also mentioned in the video.

The surface is using a desktop version of Windows right? So it won't be surprising that it's more flexible than iOS.
All windows are desktop. There is no exclusive tablet version or Mobile they got rid of it. Windows 10 has a tablet mode so you get a desktop platform that's touch friendly or is it. Doesn't matter having full desktop software on such a device is still better!

Kevin Paulsen did you not see Apples marketing?!
I feel relieved, since I decided to watch this AFTER purchasing the surface pro 6 🤦🏽♀️👍🏽
I had an iPad, now our household is almost all Surface the exception is my wifes iPad mini. The Surfaces are just so much more useful to me.
You should redo this but with iPad os vs windows
I am a devout mac user bought a surface pro 6 for my daughter... wow I am almost ready to ditch apple now...It's awesome!
Thanks, I'm going to get my wife one of these for Christmas. This helps my decision a bit better
I think it depends on what you do. For me, i can work more faster with Iphone + Ipad as Iphone + Surface or Android + Surface.
And IOS has features which windows doesnt have and the other way. As a student, writing feels much more realistic on the ipad as on the surface (just my opinion!)
Ipad OS will fix the most problems and photoshop (full version) will come to the ipad.
Personally i cant believe that photoshop and for example Vegas Pro are running smooth on the surface with that hardware.
Just because photoshop pro can be run on windows, it doesnt mean that it will be working as you want. Just my opinion, give both of them a try.
i hate when people do reviews for these pads qith pens and speak about the art aspect of it when i use this function in business writning notes which is what sells me on the surface pro everytime as a contractor vs jogging on diffrent pieces of paper

lol I’m a student and I used to take notes with surface pro 4..talking about surface pen, I’d have to tell you that..one battery can last longer than you can imagine..usually 2-3 months..
About the AAA battery in the pen..."really, really, in 2018, really?" Yes, OMG, a standard, small, cheap, replaceable battery! Totally the way to go. Sorry that you cant see that.

Isn't that AAAA battery and not AAA.
I use an ipad 6 for college and I cant do any of my online homework platforms because they're not supported.. Considering switching to microsoft!
Would you rather have a tablet with computer functions or a computer with tablet functions
@bryce hunter multitasking? The windows have that feature first before ipad did. And a computer which can pass as a tablet is way better than an actual tablet.
How’s the writing experience on the Surface? Good for taking notes as a student? 🤔
Also, can you make an updated version of this video? (iPadOS, new Surface etc...)
Thanks for the great video!
Rocking a windows desktop + iPad Pro. Love the combo.
What is considered "Real work" on a tablet? Im just curious because i see a lot of people saying that.
Apple be releasing a $219 wireless airpods that should cost $40.
Picked up the Surface pro 6 last night. It’s awesome!
Are you still liking your Pro, I can't decide. OMG 😚
I already knew which device you were going to pick before I watched the video because I have owned both devices and I also would choose the surface pro over the iPad any day. I guess great minds think alike. The iPad has great hardware but it can never replace a laptop until they fix the software which I don't see them doing anytime soon.
I need a laptop for school but I want to go with a surface pro. What do you think?
Surface Pro 6, even base model, should do you great.
I hope ios 13 will bring some more desktop class features to the ipad.
And bring the ipad closer to a laptop replacement.
You predict the future really well.
It's happening. Not perfect but happening.
First time I see an in-video add that doesn't make me roll my eyes, if it works as advertised, its actually quite a nice gadget.
Is there anything like PaperLike for the Surface Pro? Or does it not need one?
Surface pen tips give it enough resistence
Did you know that if you tap the the refresh button for 3 seconds it will give you an option for the desktop site in safari.
You should do new comparison in light of Ipad Os and if now ipad pro is better overall?
As an Apple fan boy; the Surface Pro was the devices that have been waiting for Apple to make for sometime. I got tried of carrying both a Macbook and Ipad. Couldn't see in Apple's future roadmap; so jumped back to Windows and purchased a Surface Pro. No regrets.
A expensive toy (iPAD) versus a (justifiably) high-price device (MSS PRO)
Which one of them is better for student and note taking?
Surface pro 6, theirs bundles with the pen, keyboard, and the surface pro 6 only for 800$ take notes by typing or somthin. That's what I do.
Idk I really like the windows operating system design but I like the iPad Pro design but like I want apple on Microsoft and IDK IM GONNA EXPLODE IDKK
If you haven't xploded and bought something what are the regrets or are you satisfied?
They are from two different product class. One has a mobile OS and other a full blown desktop OS. Therefore Surface can be compared to Mac, but not to an iOS powered device.
PaperLike is literally just a matte screen protector with clever marketing & double the price.
Which is better for digital drawing? ☺️☺️
I second this
Thirding this. Avid Clip Studio Paint user, and I'd rather not pay for it monthly on the iPad when I already have the windows version
So quick update, I opted to buying a 12.0" gen 2 ipad pro. Why? From my own research it seems to have a more seamless drawing experience compared to surface or other window tablets. Gen 2 because I was looking for something affordable while still carrying 4GB RAM
Proof you can't just slap pro at the end of a product name and it mean anything unless you have the software to back it. 🤦🏻♂️
