    I've tested the surface Pen in store. It also works on HP, DELL & ASUS computers. It doesn't work with Lenovo or Samsung computers because they use a different protocol than the Surface Pen.

    As an artist, I own both the Surface Pen and Bamboo Ink. I can safely say, the Bamboo Ink when drawing, absolutely *annihilates* the competition. Including the surface pen.
    When drawing slowly, much of the jitters and wobbly lines actually comes from your tiny hand moves that the pens pick up. Usually due to imperfections in the movement or different position of your hand on the screen, as well as the angle you are drawing at.
    For slow, precise drawing movements, this is where stabilizers come in. Any major software like Photoshop or Manga Studio, provide brush stabilizing options in different intensities. And I have to say, the Bamboo is easily the best one, especially when detecting different pressures levels since it has a far bigger pressure range (4,096) compared to the surface pen (256 or 1024).

    • @bojangbg
      @bojangbg 5 лет назад +6

      huh? Microsoft pen also has 4096 pressure levels.

      edit; nvm supposedly the pro 6 used diff connections now so it's no longer compatible with the bamboo ink -.- just made the tablet so not worth paying extra than a similar tablet from a similar wacom tablet to it... and so bummed that microsoft are that desperate for money they'd rather cut off certain pens just so you have to buy their pen, but then kinda means I wouldn't have likely bought this tablet in first place so to make 100 extra they would actually lose out on a few thousand 'shrugs' but then microsoft think that way, oh well i'll keep looking sigh
      ty for this feedback/review on the vid about the bamboo ink vs surface pen. I just got the surface pro 6 myself for drawing and graphic design, and I thought the surface pen would do, but yeh good to know it's not just me that feels it as being not good when I finally got to try it with my programs. Everyone in my family keep looking at me like i'm weird when I keep saying that the pen just doesn't feel right even when holding it and weight etc, let alone draw well (I've been drawing with wacom tablets for years now and it feels nothing like them lol) and it just hasn't been easy finding the right pen that is going to suit best for those needs specifically. And all the reviews i've found, like this video(which is best so far i've found tho) have all been done without any real info of it from an artist's perspective, so thanks as good to know from another artist that the bamboo ink is definitely the way to go. But also blew my mind away how expensive the surface pen is COMPARED to the bamboo ink even though it seems to be nowhere near as good, and I'm finding that more and more with the accessories I've had to buy for the surface -.- like the keyboard and mouse... and none are worth going with the surface specific stuff as it's all lower quality but they charge more... guess that's microsoft for you...
      Also for 140.00 i couldn't believe the surface pen was still not rechargeable, but not sure if theres something similar to the bamboo ink that may be rechargeable but with how much it is compared i don't mind it being batteries lol

      @@desespecizandonos i checked the website for the ones that it is compatible with and every model except 6 was listed but I can't remember if 5 was but from memory it was just 6 not shown(but still go and check the wacom website just in case) and it wasn't due to it being 'newer' compared to others so maybe not added yet, as i looked it up and a lot of articles were saying it no longer worked because microsoft now changed something so only 'surface' pens are compatible and it uses some fancy type of connection so only their products will connect... essentially so you're forced to pay 100 for a pen and 250(as the 150 ones are now not compatible with it as tried that and its 4 not 6 pin) and yeh they keep shooting themselves in the foot because i mean ppl use it for graphic design and digital art and y i bought it, and not hacing the option for the wacom pen with more pressure sensitivity was a deal killer... so to make an extra 200 they ended up losing 2000+ sale 'shrugs'.
      Don't quote me tho as can only go off articles and the wacom website and haven't bought the pen myself to try it at that price... and I ended up trading the surface out for a much better model from hp that runs way better and seem to compatible with all bluetooth stuff so hoping it works w the pen as going to order it soon.

    This was a damn good review. One of the best I have seen for this type of review. Seeing I am thinking of getting a Surface Book 2 15" screen for both me and my GF, this was very informative, and makes me want to get it even more now, with the pen made for it. The one thing I don't like about the Surface Pen is the back eraser. I prefer it to be on the side, so I don't have to twirl my pen around a lot wile drawing. I do a lot of erasing. But overall, for me quality is of higher priority, so for that alone, to me the Surface Pen wins me over for use with the Surface Book 2.
    Thank you for your review. I am sold on it. ^.^

    heres a ranking table (from best to worst) on what it seems these pens are best used for (*with their default nibs/tips) from what was shown in the video on this microsoft surface device:
    Writing (fast) | Drawing (slow)
    1. Adonit INK | 1. Surface Pen
    2. Surface Pen | 2. Adonit INK
    3. Wacom Bamboo INK | 3. Adonit INK Pro

    Its interesting it seems the Surface pro screens work better with MS surface pens. The Wacom can certainly draw straighter lines at that speed on a Bamboo tablet or Cintinq, but is all over the place on a surface screen.
    I'm using a Corst pen on a Chinese laptop using the same screen as the Surface Pro, but get glittery lines with it similar to the Pac Dot. Thank goodness MS have reduced the price of their pens recently, I'll be definitely getting one. Thanks for your insights.

    Thank you very much for the video! I just got a Surface Pro and i have never used one before. I thought i came with the pen so i didnt know what to get at first.
    I was really hoping the Wocom Bambo ink would do better as everyone keeps talking about it, and it is significantly cheaper than the offical surface pen. One thing i did notice that you didnt mention in the video is that the Surface pen seemed to have the lease latency out of all the pens. During the handwriting section it almost seemed to be instantaneous.

      I own the Wacom Bamboo Ink stylus; I can and do often stick it to the left side of my Surface Book 2. The magnet is not terribly strong, so it is easy to knock off with a bit of force, but if you are sitting still, it will stay put.

    Quite a few errors with the review. The Microsoft Surface pen works with any N-trig digitizer, including those on HP, Dell and Lenovo machines. You can also use HP pens with Surface machines. Earlier Surface Pros had a Wacom digitizer but Microsoft has been using N-trig for a few years now.
    All these pens also use Bluetooth for added functionality like clicking the top button to launch an app. You have to pair the pen with the computer, it doesn't happen automatically. If you turn off Bluetooth, you lose that added functionality. Drawing, right clicking and erasing still work with Bluetooth off.

    After seeing your videos I have a question: which tablet is the best for students (ipad 2018, samsung s4 or mediapad m5 pro, assuming they cost the same)? To take notes and work with pdf and powerpoints, etc ...

    • @teohyc
      @teohyc  6 лет назад

      They don't cost the same. I'll probably go with M5 Pro because of the larger screen. Tab S4 is good but expensive. IPad is good too but if you are not using it for drawing, Android is better choice.

      @@fabiomarcani9776 i am windows user, but i have to admit, that drawing/writing experience is superior on Ipad Pro. Buying second-hand Ipad Pro 2018 is good choice now that 2019 is out. It has the best latency (both display refresh rate, and very fast processor), apple pencil feels very good and also very important - the space between pen tip and actual display is the smallest in ipad. So you feel like the line is created right at the tip of the pen, not "deeper".
      I have bought surface pro and I am pretty happy, but still little sad that i didn't go for the ipad pro in the end.

      Hey if you have not purchased a tablet yet, the Surface Go is the best budget note-taking tablet, period. It is the best screen you can buy at that pricepoint, the Surface line of keyboards are among the best low-profile typing experiences, and of course the surface pen is arguably the most versatile digital writing utensil.
