Without other revenue sources I cannot afford to keep bringing reviews of these very expensive devices. Most big companies will not send me the devices for review. That is the reality. I just got mine with the Costco deal pen and type cover i5 128GB $799.99 Oh my wow! I'm really impressed with the machine now and I love it. I just purchased the surface dock and the surface mouse as well to complete my new system. I'm curious, for the price would you recommend Microsoft complete protection for this? I love my new baby and there is so much more I need to learn about it!

I have the i7 model for business (comes with Win 10 Pro), bought from MS Store. I can confirm that the CPU is exactly the same as the consumer version, and everything else I believe. Some possible differences include some default configurations in windows itself. The SSD is the same. The performance on geekbench is netting me about 5k in SC and 14k in MC when using maximum performance setting. Overall i'm very happy with the speed of the device but it's really going to be the last model with these outdated specs. For anyone needing a surface right now and can't wait another year or 2 i think this is a safe bet for a 2-in-1. I'm not sure why people are complaining about the 8th gen cpu though, when I looked at the intel site I didn't see any 9th gen 15w mobile cpus, or any mobile 9th gen at all. the i7-8650U is the best available 15W cpu from intel at this time
you always have great reviews which seem actually honest and not paid for which made me subscribe you and even turning the notifications on but you are started to fall in the abyss of adding more and more advertisements into your videos!
Unfortunately the cost of making these videos has got to the point that if I don't take sponsors I won't be able to continue making videos. Simple economics.
I totally understand my man! all I am saying is if it gets more and more, you may lose the essence of your videos which made you completely different from other youtube reviewers!

I just upgraded to an SP6 from an SP4. I was blown away by the improvements in the display. I don't miss the USB-C as all my add-ons are either Bluetooth, USB-A or DisplayPort. I already had the keyboard and latest pen, so I only needed to buy the tablet.

I have the surface pro 7 - I just got it recently. However, for some odd reason, the device's front facing camera does NOT look as good as yours! Which saddens me, but it's perfect outside of that so it's okay! Morning my friend! I was wondering when you were gong to drop this review. How does the Surface Pro rank against the Specter Folio and the Carbon X1? I know the latter is a different device, but I’m looking at a business productivity devices and these three are the ones I’m considering. Though the lack of USB-C on the Surface Pro is disturbing
The Surface Pro 6 is very different that the X1 Carbon. The Spectre Folio is not as powerful, but I have to say I am really enjoying so far. I am almost done with the full review and should be posted very soon. The SP6 is to me the best 2-in-1 right now but more are on the way to give it some competition. I will be reviewing the Samsung Galaxy Book 2 very soon.

The surface pen and keyboards are on Amazon for a cheaper price than what Microsoft sells them for. I recently purchased a blue surface pen from Amazon for around $75 instead of the $99 on Microsoft’s website.

The Chillmaster id say you would get an overall better experience with the keyboard cover. But it all boils down to your intended use upon purchasing the surface pro 6. I am on the go a lot and I needed something with the portability of a tablet but the efficiency of a pc. Sure I could have just spent the same money on your average laptop, but why not have the best of both worlds? . Not to mention you can pair all of your android and iOS devices with it almost seamlessly.

Great review! I've had the surface book with performance base for 2yrs, been thinking of selling it off and getting the surface pro 6 which should take me another 2-3yrs. Seeing that there is a complete redesign (plus usb c) coming next year would you advise i wait for that or go ahead and buy the pro 6?

The surface keyboard is amazing. It has actual keys and actual key travel. It feels great on its own, but especially when compared to Apple smart Keyboard.
Great review Andrew. Very thorough and clear. You did miss the fact that the Pro 6 is a downgrade to Windows 10 Home now; Micro$oft snuck that one in, to raise some upgrade revenue I guess. Obviously most people wont care. Also if you're going to test the rear facing camera you probably want to clean your finger smudge marks off the lens with a lens cloth. ;)
Well review. I am not sure about this version but pro 4 always give me a hard time especially when a software update. My latest problem was the pointer varnished in 10secs.

I am still working on my review of the HP Spectre Folio. But so far, I am really surprised on how much I am liking it. I thought the Y processor would be a problem and it turns out it is very snappy and has handled everything i have thrown at it. But the Surface Pro 6 is a great 2-in-1 with improvements all across the board. Tough call. I will maybe do a head to head very soon.

My main machine is a fast MacBook Pro, so this is a second machine for travel work, meeting notes and movies/browsing. It's between the this, the Surface Pro 6 and a Macbok 12" (in case I decide switching between OSs crushes my productivity). Currently leaning towards this HP. It's heavier, but has the 13" screen which I think is about perfect for work. The leather sounds unique and lovely to hold. Having the touchpad usable in browsing mode, will be more useable and save fingerprints on the screen. And tablet mode will do meeting notes nicely.

Hello, I just bought it yesterday. As for the battery I am very disappointed because it does not hold more than 5h in normal use with all-in-bottom performance and brightness advisor by Windows. Do you think the battery is redone over the refills? A bit like smartphones that arrive has their ideal autonomy after 1-2 weeks.
You may have a defective unit, as those battery figures don't sound right. Also, please keep in mind battery will depend on your type of usage and that may vary from individual to individual. Everyone uses their devices differently. However, your figures seem too low.
@@andrewmarcdavid I made 30min of payments and I lost 11%, your youtube video 10% less, a letter on Word and I was 70%. a test with the stylus to draw I arrived at 50% very very quickly. and the machine heats up quite violently. the charge accumulator also heats up a lot.
Great review ! Would you recommend Surface Pro 5 (2017) over Surface Pro 6 for running UNREAL ENGINE 4 due to better GPU performance? Could you make a test how it handles UE 4?
GPU on 2017 is only better for the i7 model, the review is not accurate in this regard, if you do the research both the 2017 i5 and 2018 i5 are on the intel 620

Trying to decide between the Surface laptop 2 and the Pro 6. The specs seem the same but pro 6 with keyboard is cheaper currently. Is there anything that the pro 6 can't do that the kaptop 2 can?
Tablets with attached keyboards are generally harder to have on your lap. However, tablet computers are more versatile (better pen support and its really nice to be able to remove the keyboard). Otherwise, there is nothing you don't get on surface pro that you get on surface laptop.
Please don't use thermal imaging to measure the temperature, especially not on a reflective surface. Use actual physical probes instead (you can fasten them with a thermal pad and some tape). Thermal imaging is great for measuring a difference in temperature, not so much for the actual temperature. You should've pointed the camera at the back (because it's matte and black - which is optimal) to show how heat is distributed.
I just bought this at $799 at Costco. Bought the SquareTrade for $99. If they can't fix it they'll replace it for 3 years. Including accidental damage.

I'm not in the states and if I want one with a dissent specs I have to pay 2100$ so it's simply not good enough for something that pricy. Think to go with Dell latitude which costs a bit more but at least it is maintainable.
Dude, use adblock plus. They have add-on/extension for the most known browsers. For mobile, I like using the opera browser for the same reason. I've seen no ads, no interruptions.

Tim Pearcy and the display really, really pops. It still strikes me whenever I power mine up. The difference between the SP4 and SP6 displays is night and day.
Impressed with the better battery life, but I learned the hard way that my use of any Windows product is almost nil. I honestly am a Chromebook person, especially now that most can accommodate the Play Store. And, even though newer Chromebooks are getting quite expensive, they are still less costly than a decent Windows 2 in 1 and I USE me Chromebook where as merely plug in my Windows laptop every six weeks or so for updates! Being a female, I love the "pretty" aspect of this particular device, but I have finally realized that even "pretty" will just sit covered up on my desk, and will get little to no use by me. Great review, as always though. And I appreciate the way you work your sponsors into the reviews. It's as though you are adding helpful hints instead of taking time out to do commercials! Other reviewers could learn from you!
One problem i've had with this is the incredibly slow WiFi. I've read about something with Bluetooth and 2.4 GHz WiFi in tandem might slow down WiFi alot, and that using 5 GHz instead alleviates the problem somewhat, however it's apparent that the Marvell chipset used ever since the first surface I think is a poor contender for performance. It's so horrible compared to any of my other devices like Galaxy S8 for example. Has anyone had this problem? I'm getting very low connect rates too. On average 130 Mbps while on other devices at the same location is able to pull 450 Mbps and up to 877 Mbps with actual transfer rates exceeding the surface by far. I am not sure about this, but on such small boards there would definately be limited PCIe lanes for all of these things and some may be sharing a bus etc. This could also be the root cause of not being able to provide more ports and possibly the speed of USB-C could not have been realised unless an entirely new chipset is available in this form factor with more bandwidths. At least the USB port can transfer upwards of 300 MB/s easily to my fastest flash drives but i'm not going to be using a dongle for wireless.

I am not sure about this version but pro 4 always give me a hard time especially when a software update. My latest problem was the pointer varnished in 10secs.

I am still working on my review of the HP Spectre Folio. But so far, I am really surprised on how much I am liking it. I thought the Y processor would be a problem and it turns out it is very snappy and has handled everything i have thrown at it. But the Surface Pro 6 is a great 2-in-1 with improvements all across the board. Tough call. I will maybe do a head to head very soon.

My main machine is a fast MacBook Pro, so this is a second machine for travel work, meeting notes and movies/browsing. It's between the this, the Surface Pro 6 and a Macbok 12" (in case I decide switching between OSs crushes my productivity). Currently leaning towards this HP. It's heavier, but has the 13" screen which I think is about perfect for work. The leather sounds unique and lovely to hold. Having the touchpad usable in browsing mode, will be more useable and save fingerprints on the screen. And tablet mode will do meeting notes nicely.

What do you finally recommend between Msft Surface Pro 6 and Lenovo X1 Tablet?
Hello, I just bought it yesterday. As for the battery I am very disappointed because it does not hold more than 5h in normal use with all-in-bottom performance and brightness advisor by Windows. Do you think the battery is redone over the refills? A bit like smartphones that arrive has their ideal autonomy after 1-2 weeks.
You may have a defective unit, as those battery figures don't sound right. Also, please keep in mind battery will depend on your type of usage and that may vary from individual to individual. Everyone uses their devices differently. However, your figures seem too low.
@@andrewmarcdavid I made 30min of payments and I lost 11%, your youtube video 10% less, a letter on Word and I was 70%. a test with the stylus to draw I arrived at 50% very very quickly. and the machine heats up quite violently. the charge accumulator also heats up a lot.

GPU on 2017 is only better for the i7 model, the review is not accurate in this regard, if you do the research both the 2017 i5 and 2018 i5 are on the intel 620
GPU downgrade for I5 model is not true, 2017 and 2018 are both the intel 620, the downgrade only goes if u're going from an i7 to an i7 model

Question, you mentioned that Microsoft *may* save the USB-C for next year's model. Going by Microsoft's past release schedule of every 18 months (give or take a couple of months), wouldn't a Surface Pro 7 release be in 2020?

iPad Pro = 1 task at a time, and no mouse. Surface Pro 6 = Multiple tasks at once and a mouse.
Trying to decide between the Surface laptop 2 and the Pro 6. The specs seem the same but pro 6 with keyboard is cheaper currently. Is there anything that the pro 6 can't do that the kaptop 2 can?
Tablets with attached keyboards are generally harder to have on your lap. However, tablet computers are more versatile (better pen support and its really nice to be able to remove the keyboard). Otherwise, there is nothing you don't get on surface pro that you get on surface laptop.

Please don't use thermal imaging to measure the temperature, especially not on a reflective surface. Use actual physical probes instead (you can fasten them with a thermal pad and some tape). Thermal imaging is great for measuring a difference in temperature, not so much for the actual temperature. You should've pointed the camera at the back (because it's matte and black - which is optimal) to show how heat is distributed.

I'm not in the states and if I want one with a dissent specs I have to pay 2100$ so it's simply not good enough for something that pricy. Think to go with Dell latitude which costs a bit more but at least it is maintainable.

Dude, use adblock plus. They have add-on/extension for the most known browsers. For mobile, I like using the opera browser for the same reason. I've seen no ads, no interruptions.

People, I am not a fan of ads as well. However, to continue to bring content, I have no choice but to take on sponsors as the cost of producing videos is very high. There are other bigger channels that are paid by the manufacturers and will not give you an honest review. They are paid. Tim Pearcy and the display really, really pops. It still strikes me whenever I power mine up. The difference between the SP4 and SP6 displays is night and day.
Impressed with the better battery life, but I learned the hard way that my use of any Windows product is almost nil. I honestly am a Chromebook person, especially now that most can accommodate the Play Store. And, even though newer Chromebooks are getting quite expensive, they are still less costly than a decent Windows 2 in 1 and I USE me Chromebook where as merely plug in my Windows laptop every six weeks or so for updates! Being a female, I love the "pretty" aspect of this particular device, but I have finally realized that even "pretty" will just sit covered up on my desk, and will get little to no use by me. Great review, as always though. And I appreciate the way you work your sponsors into the reviews. It's as though you are adding helpful hints instead of taking time out to do commercials! Other reviewers could learn from you!

One problem i've had with this is the incredibly slow WiFi. I've read about something with Bluetooth and 2.4 GHz WiFi in tandem might slow down WiFi alot, and that using 5 GHz instead alleviates the problem somewhat, however it's apparent that the Marvell chipset used ever since the first surface I think is a poor contender for performance. It's so horrible compared to any of my other devices like Galaxy S8 for example. Has anyone had this problem? I'm getting very low connect rates too. On average 130 Mbps while on other devices at the same location is able to pull 450 Mbps and up to 877 Mbps with actual transfer rates exceeding the surface by far. I am not sure about this, but on such small boards there would definately be limited PCIe lanes for all of these things and some may be sharing a bus etc. This could also be the root cause of not being able to provide more ports and possibly the speed of USB-C could not have been realised unless an entirely new chipset is available in this form factor with more bandwidths. At least the USB port can transfer upwards of 300 MB/s easily to my fastest flash drives but i'm not going to be using a dongle for wireless.
/cloud/craft I have a dual-band modem and have my SP6 connect using the 5GHz band. No issues whatsoever with WiFi speed or BT.
