    My new job gave me a brand new one with the i7, 16 gigs ram & 512 gb. They hooked me up with the LED type cover, Pen & Surface dock for my desk with two nice screens. He handed me the charger and said, make sure you never come to work without it charged... I immediately replied I get to take this home? 🤩 I 💗💗 this job.

    You're the only reviewer that made this product sound worth buying. Alot of others really just give it a pass because it doesn't usb-c / thunderbolt. So thank you for actually taking the time to point out all the pros and cons that use update has to offer. This really seems like a great productivity device.

    I'm still using my 4 years old Surface Pro 3 with its pen and keyboard cover, and still very pleased with it. No problem whatsoever, it suits what I do perfectly.
    Watching Surface Pro 6 review I'm thinking to myself, should I upgrade? I mean 3 to 6 is quite an upgrade. But the more I think about it, I came to a conclusion that I don't need to updgrade, yet.

      Cheers. One thing that I'll keep in mind is that Microsoft make good quality hardware. So my next laptop will probably be another one from Microsoft. I actually have two units of Surface, and both of them works well.

      You should definitely do your research before you buy. I may be wrong but if I remember right, Pro 4 is when they changed the digitizer. I guess if you're using Wacom drivers on there and don't have to charge or replace pen batteries then you know you're in for some changes in pen tech and probably drivers as well. As someone who started out with an old Samsung ATIV 7 tablet (back when they were called 700t or something) I found the Wacom pen/drivers great back then but modern tablets are using either MS drivers or N-Trig tech (or both) and it's really hard to make the change after getting used to the Wacom stuff.
      Mostly, the big deal for me was being able to set the front pen button to do custom stuff (I use it for undo, and the second front button for color picker if it's available) and being able to get pressure support on multi-user drawing programs. Seems a lot of those programs don't have Microsoft driver support, and their drivers also give you very little customization to speak of, which greatly hinders the usefulness of the front buttons. Not sure those things are all still true today (drivers can always be improved via updates) but it was about a year ago I got a Surface Book and spent days trying to figure out how to get it to work for me before I had to return it.
      Just wanted to say be a little wary of whether the product you're buying suits your needs and make sure you buy from somewhere you can return it if needed.

    • @DASyam-tb7qt
      @DASyam-tb7qt 5 лет назад +1

      Bitcoon thanks. I'm happy with my SP3. Yes, mine has N-Trig technology. I also own a Galaxy Note, which has WACOM technology. Yes I do use the pen occasionally, only for writing though. I don't draw. So the difference in the pen technology means very little to none to me. In 4 years or so, I've changed the pen battery twice. It still works perfectly fine.

    If you don't mind not using touch capabilities, you can disable the touch screen in device manager while you draw. That's what I do and pair it with the wacom express key remote so that I don't have to worry about palm rejection at all. Just reenable it whenever touch is desired.

    I love the reviews on Lisa's channel, I do not know how you do it having all the time to write these scripts, record it and have it on RUclips. Now with regards to the product itself, I do not understand why MS is not inventing more on this hardware at the forefront. No USB-C, still there proprietary charger, no DDR4 at higher speeds like 2400Mhz instead if the slower DDR3 and still these awesome devices, because they are great to work on, are so high in price. I know y'all will say these things are for businesses and some students and there are cheaper models like the Surface Go. I wish this machine had two USB-C ports one on each side and leave that USB-A in place is fine. I will take a peek at iFixit what they give the serviceability I would almost think it is still all glued together. Great review Lisa, I like how unbiased you are, I am not too certain I can be....

      obviously Core i5-8250U and Core i7-8650U with this form factor, in a slim device like this and with 15 watt TDP that can go beyond that is kinda impressive.

    • @abubakrakram6208
      @abubakrakram6208 5 лет назад

      A lot of ultrabooks today still throttle, rendering their shiny quad core chips use-less for the real work they'd otherwise be capable of. So yeah, this is very impressive. If you really need the 6 cores, obviously not for you.

    The pen lags in photoshop depending on your canvas size but in other apps it seems to work as fast as you can possibly draw/write with it. Onenote, drawboard pdf and edge all write very fast with the pen. I think it actually has something to do with the API to the pen itself so Adobe has to possibly support the pen better. I think right now Illustrator has a touch workspace and possibly supports the pen better at this time.

    Great review! I watched this four times, and also watched your review on the new iPad 12.9 pro as well. I have two HP Envy computers. The oldest one is three years old and the latest one I bought about three months ago. I never owned a microsoft computer before or an iPad tablet. All my laptops have been HP. I use Corel Painter and the Wacom Intuos pro medium tablet on my older computer. I wanted to have a tablet that I didn't have to be stuck sitting at my computer desk all the time. I bought an iPad pro 12.9, 2018 on Friday, thinking that this was for me, but took it back today, and ordered the Surface Pro 6 i7. I am more of a computer person than a tablet person, and since the Surface pro is like two in one, I decided to go with that instead of the iPad. Maybe down the line I will invest in an iPad, but not just yet.

    I bought 2017 i7 edition last year and this version is practically the same, other than the colour and a few minor not noticeable changes. What am I missing? Did they change anything to warrant an actual upgrade? pro4->pro 2017 was a relatively big jump although still not as significant as I hoped. This model is more of a re-brand than a new version

      The reason It doesn't have USB-C because of thunderbolt 3. Thunderbolt 3 uses 2 or 4 PCIe lane. Surface connect also takes up PCIe lane as well as keyboard dock. Current 8th gen intel kaby lake refresh has limited PCIe lane like 12. Microsoft is probably waiting for intel 10nm icelake cpu which should have 16 PCIe lane.

      Whilst I think it's a little disappointing they haven't upgraded to USB-C, it's still far easier to find USB-3 peripherals than USB-C ones. At the moment, I would rather not have to buy some sort of dongle to work with all my existing equipment so I would not want them replacing the USB-3 with USB-C unless they provided a converter in the box. I'm all for them adding a 2nd USB-C port to the existing one though.

    Old video getting some love. The 5 and 6 only difference is DDR3 in the 5 to DDR4 RAM which is a little better, a better battery and going from dual core to quad core configuration. I've been messing with Apple ecosystem and my SP5 and have finally recommitted to the SP5. I'm debating between the 6 and the 7. The SP5 and 6 have the same Intel 620 graphics as well. I have read though that the SP6 battery does better than the new SP7 FWIW!

    I did set two of those units up yesterday, core i7 version and the S6 performed well, battery life is excellent, units are fast and responsive, screen support works well in the upright position and the always valuable USB port in a tablet is a must have feature. However, once I enabled HD encryption and upon reboot for Windows update installation, I had to use a recovery key to unlock one of them (?) but fortunately this happened only once. Good business product, even if a bit on expensive side, recommended.

      PRASHANT BISWAS in comparison to what? I have a surface pro 6 and Macbook Pro 15" and when I go to the Mac store it too is pretty barren. That maybe true of ios but I wouldn't compare surface pro to iPad. The surface is a laptop replacement not iPad. They're targeting Mac users who also use an iPad. The surface can replace a laptop and iPad. I Mac for final cut and that's it.

    How good is this for drawing? Or is there some other mobile drawing tablets that are better for the price?

    My complaint is there is just no good rugged case option at the moment. Kensington is designed a little too tightly to work on Pro 5's and Pro 6's (designed for Pro 4) and the case tends to snap within about half a year from what I have seen. Not to mention, the pen holder obstructs the a USB port, but I don't know how this can be avoided except to hold the pen below of the keyboard in the pouch type design found in some of the leather folios. UAG blocks the back thermal heat sinks which is bonkers, plus makes you use their kickstand which is garbage compared to the surface but still offers *some* functionality. I-blason makes the exact same design mistakes. Kabcon looks to be a decent design but the only case maker I have never seen another product from... and with two of the four reviews saying "its good unless you want to detach the keyboard/use the ports on the sides".... pass. Finally, the last major contender... the MoKo rugged case. Cheap, very few complaints... unless your a 2017 and by extension Pro 6 user. For pro 4 users, this is the case to get unless you want a "more expensive" feeling case, in which case Kensington is the only answer I would pick.. Ah the Kensington, shame this has the same issues as the Kensington. The ports don't quite align with the newer models, and on top of that, it has the "too tight" problem of the Kensington making the case snap after repeated use within a year on the 2017 models.
    These cases all suck if your buying to Pro 5 or Pro 6. I wish some case manufacturer would actually design a case specifically for the Pro 5 and 6 and leave the pro 4 out of the design process. Evidently, Pro 4 cases just aren't meant to fit Pro 5 and 6, despite manufacturers claiming they do fit. Oh they do, but they break or the ports aren't alligned. If anyone sees a half decent rugged case that does not have these limitations, please let me know.

    MS should add one button to instantly enable/disable touchscreen, so when user want to draws with pen, they don't have to worry about their palm.

      In the Windows 1809 update at least, there is a setting to ignore all touch input when using the pen. Just tested it, as soon as the pen is near the screen touch doesn't work anymore.

    The surface pro 5 form factor is close to perfect, and the pro 6 with almost no design change confirmed this. This device/form factor will be the new standard for mobile computing. This is a huge breakthrough for technology. Is it a tablet or is it a computer? It is NOT a laptop. I think these will just be called "computers". This will be the new "computer" and the computer and tablet will become one. You can do SO MUCH with the pen. Ridiculous. Been waiting for something like this the first tablets came out. This is the first time tablets are computers.

    Lisa what do you think about Samsung Galaxy book 2 with LTE? It has a Qualcomm snapdragon 850 processor and it claims 20 hours of battery life and is always connected

      I'm not hugely excited by Windows on ARM since the computing power and app possibilities are limited and there isn't much (if any) price break.

    Was looking at one of these, but no USB-C or SIM card slot = no purchase.
    I was goin to replace my Surface Go but it has everything I wanted in the Pro so I spose I keep that.
    Surprisingly it has proven itself above and beyond how I thought it would be seeing as it is hugely lower specced than the Pro.
    Save my money then I reckon.

    Great review! However the SP6 is pretty disappointing. Although I'd like to replace my SP4 with the i7 in the near future, I see not much of an incentive. Better thermal design simply isn't gonna cut it for me. Having a quad core CPU is nice but on the other hand I'd loose the Iris graphics. Hopefully the next iteration of Surface Pro will have a Thunderbolt/USB-TypeC port, that would be a reason to upgrade. By the way, is it true that they only ship the SP6 with Windows 10 Home edition?

    Lisa, I know there's a new iPad pro coming out soon and we don't know everything about it yet, but as of now, for an artist which do you think actually works better and helps get work done? A surface pro or an iPad pro?

    Does the bottom-right corner of the trackpad dip down a little bit? My red cover and some at the Microsoft Store did this so I don't know if it's by design. If so, I found it to be a little concerning.
